METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— E Division.— For stealing £ 112.— John Dudley Carruthers, b. 1871 to 1876, 5ft. 10in., thin build, h. dk. brown ( turning grey and going bald on top), clean shaven, sunken cheeks, flat footed ; dress, dk. suit and overcoat, bowler hat. Was employed by Winter Distress League of Bedford Row ( L.) and was sent with £ 112 to pay wages of employees at St. Mary's, Great Northern and Willesden hospitals. Failed to do so and absconded. Inf. to C. R. O. BERKSHIRE. 2.— Windsor ( Boro.).— Reginald W. Purser, Case No. 1, 18- 1- 26, is identical with Reginald Wilkinson Purser, C. R. O. No. 16577- 22, b. 1879, 5ft. 5Jin., stout build, c. and li. fair, e. blue. A book- keeper ; native of London. Has cons, for embezzlement, larceny, forging and uttering and fraud in SOUTH AFRICA. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Windsor. ESSEX. 3.— Clacton- on- Sea ( Co.).— For obtaining credit by fraud between 2nd and 14th November, 1925.— Eddie Sandford, b. 1894, 5ft. 6in., c. and h. dk., clean shaven, thin face with deep marks each side, lost top 1st 1. finger ; dress, black coat and vest, dk. grey trousers, soft collar, black knitted tie, grey cap, brown shoes. An upholsterer. Engaged bed- sitting room and had breakfast, stating he had obtained work at local cinema to repair and clean seats which would take him 2 to 3 weeks ( false). Absconded, 14th November, without paying. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Phillibrown, Clacton- on- Sea. 4.— Colchester ( Boro.).— For obtaining £ 3 10s. by false pretences, 10th inst.— A Man who gave name of C. E. Hunt, b. 1891 to 1896, about 5ft. 8in., slim build, florid marks on cheeks, clean shaven ; dress, dk. overcoat ( waisted), believed bowler hat, pin stripe trousers, fawn spats, pointed shoes. Carried small brown attache- case. Called on firm of cabinet makers, said he was traveller for Dominion Machinery Co., of Halifax, and had come to examine machine which firm had recently bought from latter company. After the inspection said he had run short of cash and was handed £ 3 10s. to enable him to return to Halifax, and gave receipt. Enquiries elicited the fact that he has no connection with the Dominion Machinery Co. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Colchester. GLA MORG AN SHIRE. 5.— Barry Dock ( Co.).— James I. Believed native of London. Induced his landlady to cash cheque on Cook & Sons Bank, Ludgate Circus ( L). The cheque is one of five lost by the owner of the book, the numbers of the other cheques being F 514203 to 514206. Attempted to obtain situation locally as salesman. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. Pre. con. of larcenv, cvclestealing and fraud at STOCKTON- ON- TEES, DARLINGTON, DURHAM ( Robert Hcnrv Sedgewick i, D( JRSLEY, BOSTON ( Robert Henrv Smart), CANTERBURY ( Robert Henrv John' Smart), GLOUCESTER ( Albert Henry Smart) and WESTBURY ( William Osborne). Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Lane, Cheltenham. HAMPSHIRE. 8.— Portsmouth ( Boro.).— For obtaining 2 lady's coats by false pretences ( worthless cheque), at Southsea, 24th ult.— Samuel Bates, b. 1881 to 1886, 5ft. 6in., medium build, c. fresh, h. fair ( bald on top), e. blue- grey, thin face, clean shaven ; dress, brown overcoat with belt at back, Trilby hat, iron- grey suit, soft collar, tie, shoes. A joiner's foreman.— Toni Bates, b. 1896, 5ft. 6 oi^ 7in., thin build, c. fair, h. ( bobbed) dk., e. brown ; dress, brown coat, close fitting hat, brown shoes. Believed to have been an artiste. Ordered the coats and tendered in payment cheque on Barclay's Bank, Southsea. which was later returned marked A/ c Closed. Also obtained wines and spirits, clothing and money, by the same means, from other tradesmen. The man was employed as foreman by a local firm of builders, but was discharged in October last. Both left 27th ult,, owing a considerable sum as rent, for a boarding house they had rented, and taking with them a quantity of bedclothing and travelling trunks, believed to be the property of one of the boarders. The woman has since written the landlord, saying they intended going abroad. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C.. Portsmouth. 9.- Portsmouth ( Boro.).— For stealing £ 5 10s. 3£ d., 16th inst,— George Joseph Smith, b. 1883, 5ft. 8in., c. fresh, h. bald top, clean shaven, mole on face ; dress, sports coat, dk. trousers, fawn raincoat, It. cap. May endeavour to obtain work on Cunard boat at Southampton. Warrant issued. Inf. to the CO., Portsmouth. KENT. 10.— Tonbridge ( Co.).— Adverting to Case No. 80, 12- 10- 25. Amended inf. :— Mrs. Vaughan not now wanted. Warrant withdrawn. A traveller ; native of Nantwich. Pre. con. of fraud at EDINBURGH, LIVERPOOL ( Clement Stanley), MANCHESTER ( Charles Clement Stanley) and on P. Called on clergyman, said he was employed at Treasurer's Dept. at Town Hall, Manchester, and his wife was dying at Dalkeith and required the money to enable him to visit her. A painter : native of Birmingham where he has con. for larceny. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Neate, Mansfield. 15.— Nottingham ( City).— For embezzling £ 3 15s., between 3rd and 28th ult.— Albert William Tippetts, b. 1877, 5ft. 8in., slim build, c. fair, h. brown, small brown moustache ( pointed ends), plausible, walks quickly ; dress, It. grey suit, dk. overcoat, fawn Trilby hat, collar, tie, white muffler, boots. In possession of navy blue suit. Was employed as traveller by Loughborough confectioner, collected debts amounting in all to about £ 25, for which he failed to account, and absconded on or about 1st inst. Warrant issued. Several persons were influenced to purchase rings from him at 6s. to 8s. each; but the rings were afterwards found to be plated, and worth about 6d. each.— Victor Montiz, b. 1862, about 5ft. 5in., stiff build, h. and moustache grey, lost half 1st rt. finger. DUMFRIESSHIRE . 83.— Dumfries ( Co.).— For obtaining board and lodging by false pretences, at Annan, between 15th and 19th inst.— J. Kendriek, b. about 1896, about 5ft. 6in., slight build, c. pale, h., e. and small moustache dk., unhealthy appearance; dress, navv blue suit, clerical grev overcoat with belt, bowler hat, fawn spats, boots or shoes. Carried brown leather suit- case, about 2ft. long. Native of ( stated) Worcester. Appearance of a commercial traveller. Called at hotel, 15th inst., asked for bed for one night. After going to his room, said he would stay for week end, and left on morning of 19th inst., without paying his account. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Dumfries. GLOUCESTERSHIRE . 84.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing £ 14 10s., 6th inst.— Noah Bridges, b. about 1908, 5ft. 9in., slight build, c. pale, h. It. sandy, clean shaven ; dress, brown coat and vest, navy blue trousers, soft collar, tie, boots. Stole the money from a fellow lodger at a common lodging house. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 85.— Southampton ( Boro.).— For stealing motor cycle ( recovered).— William Whittle, b. 1906, 5ft. 8in., c. blotchy, clean shaven, round features ; dress, smart chauffeur's uniform. A chauffeur. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Southampton. 86— Southampton ( Boro.).— For stealing furni- ture.— Harold Francis Taylor, alias Hariy Francis Shaw, C. R. O. No. 624- 14, b. 1893, 5ft. 5in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. hazel. A tinsmith ; native of Portsmouth. Pre. con. of larceny, cycle- stealing, churchbreaking, burglary and minor offences at PORTSMOUTH ( Francis Harold Taylor), SALISBURY ( Harold Frank Taylor), BRIGHTON ( Harold Francis Taylor) and on G. Inf. to the C. C., Southampton. HERTFORDSHIRE. 87.- Watford ( Co.).— For shopbreaking and stealing 7 men's woollen pullovers, various colours. Thomas Clifford, alias Jerry, C. R. O. No. 208- 22, b. 1891, 5ft. 5in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. it. blue, scar forehead, 1. hand deformed ; dress, old brown suit, khaki overcoat, cap, muffler. A carman : native of London. KENT. 88. — Dartford ( Co.). — For stealing, 11th inst., at Wilmington, gent's Juno cycle, 24in. drop frame, 26 x Hin. wheels, black enamelled lined red ( almost worn off), North Road plated handle- bars, roller lever brakes, Dunlop cord tyres, plated rims ( slightly rusty), 3- coil spring saddle, butterfly nuts in spindle of both wheels, small Lucas acetylene lamp on front, No. ( believed) 20808.- Harry Peck, b. 1905, 5ft. SUn.; c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey, scar back of neck. rt. forearm, rt. wrist and back rt. hand : dress, dk. check suit, navy blue mackintosh, grey Trilby hat, soft collar, mauve tie, shoes, smart appearance. Native of Folkestone. Inf. to Supt. Fowle, Dartford. LANCASHIRE. 89.— Blackburn ( Co.).— For obtaining 9s. In false pretences, at Darwen, 24th ult.— Robert Charles Taylor, alias Robert Taylor, b. 1883, 5ft. 8in., medium build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown or sandy, e. grey, out under bottom lid 1. eye, thin face, clean shaven ; dress, dk. brown suit, dirty fawn raincoat, muffler, cap, boots. Native of Burnley. Was casually e mployed as gardener, said he had worked for Sauls' Nurseries, Preston ( false), and offered to get loser some rose trees, and was handed 9s. but failed to supply trees. LEICESTERSHI RE . 90.— Leicester ( City).— For obtaining £ 4 13s. by false pretences ( worthless cheque), 12th inst. A Man, b. 1881 to 1886, oft. Sin., well built, c. pale, clean shaven ; dress, clerical grey overcoat ( believed velvet collar), stiff collar, dk. tie, bowler hat. Called at firm of wine merchants, ordered wines, etc., tendered cheque for £ 7 10s. and received £ 4 L3s. change ( cheque drawn on National Provincial Bank, Bedminster ( Bristol), by Walter Tyler, in favour of J. V. Tyler, and was returned marked No account). Also obtained i~> 6s. 6d. from another firm by the same method. Was unsuccessful in a third attempt. Believed identical with Man, Case No. 8, 15- 1- 26. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Leicester. LINCOLNSHIRE. 91.— Lincoln ( City).— For fraud, 20th inst. E. Baxter, b. 1880, 5ft. 6in., fairly well built, c. fair, h. ( bald on top) It., ginger moustache, round face, rt. hand deformed ; dress, thick grey overcoat, grey muffler, bowler or grey Trilby hat. Falsely represented his father had a house to let and obtained £ 1 on account of rent oi premises, which he offered to loser. Appears identical with Edward Baxter, Case No. 13, 30- 9- 25. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Lincoln. NORFOLK. 92.— Norwich ( City).— For failing to surrender to his bail at Q. Sess., 18th inst., on a charge of larceny.— Harry Bernstein, aliases Harry Burnstein and Burns, C. R. O. No. 15356- 25, b. 1902, 5ft, 6in., c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. grey, clean shaven, mole forehead, sears back rt. hand, a Jew ; dress, black coat and vest, black striped trousers, dk. blue overcoat, It. Trilby hat, soft collar, grey check tie, shoes. Pre. con. of minor offence on G. Has recently travelled the country buying old gold and silver and has been employed as a cook in White Star Line and may seek similar employment. Warrant issued. Inf. to the ( J. C., Norwich. SUSSEX ( EAST). 93.— Battle ( Co.).— For obtaining food and lodging by false pretences, at Burwash, between 1st and 7th inst.- Fred Williams, b. 1906 or 1907, 5ft. 10 or llin.. slight build, e. pale, h. dk. brown, e. blue ; dress, blue suit and overcoat, shoes. A footman. Was employed as footman at local address and was discharged in December for misconduct. On 1st inst. called at inn, said he had been sent by Harrods of London to repair some furniture at the house from which he had been discharged ( false) and was given lodgings. Was last seen 8th inst. at Tun bridge Wells when he said lie was going to Crow borough. cr4 ~ o Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Braine. Battle.
