A course of instruction on Criminal Law, Practice and Procedure was held recently at the offices of the Criminal Investigation Department, Metropolitan Police, New Scotland Yard, S. W. I. Lectures on practical detective work were also given by Officers having special knowledge. GLAMORGANSHIRE . 5.— Gowerton ( Co.).— For obtaining money by false pretences, at Gorseinon, 12- 9- 25.— W. J. Sloane, b. about 1886, about 5ft. 9in., c. fair, h. It. brown, clean shaven, plausible ; dress, navy blue serge suit, soft collar, tie. Called on tradesmen, stated he represented Corinthian Publishing Co., of Swansea ( false), who were publishing almanacs for 1926, for Gorseinon and Loughor British Legion, and solicited orders for advertisements in same. Obtained several orders with cash, but almanacs have not been delivered, and he has not since been heard of. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Smith, Gowerton. Lane, Cheltenham. 7.— Cheltenham ( Co.).— For embezzling £ 1 Is., 29th Sept., 1925, and £ 5 13s. on 2nd inst.— Morley Taverner, b. about 1898, 5ft. 8in., c. pale, h. dk., full face, clean shaven ; dress, brown suit, brown Triby hat, collar, tie, fawn mackintosh, boots. Native of Newport. Was employed as carman and and salesman by wholesale fruit and vegetable merchants, and on 12th inst. was entrusted with £ 20 to obtain Road Fund licence for his employers' lorry and National Health Insurance stamps, but neither wras obtained, and he has not since been seen. It was subsequently discovered that he had received the above amounts on behalf of his employers which he had not accounted for. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Lane, Cheltenham. Believed native of Limerick. Purchased cigarettes, etc., and tendered in payment cheque for £ 1 on Union Bank of Manchester. Blackley Branch, and received 17s. change. The cheque was later returned marked R. D. Left his lodgings, 15th ult., owing 3 weeks rent. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C.
