Was making use of bad language near a public- house, and when spoken to by the licensee, struck him, cutting his nose and bruising his eye, and de- camped. May be found on camping grounds and open spaces used by caravan dwellers. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. O. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE . 2.— Slough ( Co.).— For obtaining 8s. by false pretences, at Eton, 18th ult.— Margaret Hartley, b. 1880, 5ft. 2in., stout build, broad face. Called at house in answer to an advertisement for cook, and gave reference. It was arranged that she should start 4th or 6th inst., provided her reference was satisfactory. Was given her return fare, 8s., but her reference was subsequently found to be false. Appears identical with Edith Bates, C. R. O. No. 1220- 12, Cases Nos. 123, Supplement A ( Vol. V.), and 13, 30- 11- 25. Warrant issued. Inf. to the D. C. C., Slough. Called on loser, asked for lodgings, said he would be staying for about 3 mos. Stated he was chauffeur to lady and gentleman staying at Cambridge and had garaged his car at village. DORSETSHIRE. 6.— Weymouth ( Co.).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences — Ivor Williams, b. 1896, 5ft. 2in., slim build, h. dk. brown, e. dk., small moustache, very plausible ; dress, blue suit, khaki mackintosh ( very shabby) with belt, bowler hat. WTas introduced to loser, who was organising a dinner, as a singer, and was asked to take part in the concert, which he did. Later he saw loser's wife, told her he had sent his dress suit to be cleaned, and that her husband had instructed him to ask her for 10s. ( false) to enable him to pay for it. Was given the amount, and absconded. Represents himself to be a Freemason and a member of the R. A. O. B. States that he is a printer, employed on a Cunard boat, which is at present laid up at Liverpool, for overhaul. Warrant issued. Inf. to Insp. Cherrett, Weymouth. YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 15.— Sheffield ( City).— For stealing, 11th November, 1925, lady's gold locket and chain, small diamond in centre of locket, chain is ball and chain pattern; lady's old- fashioned silver watch and chain ; gent's gold signet ring, initials G. H. and J. L. thereon.— William Ellis, b. 1883, 5ft. 6in., slim build, c. fresh, h. brown ( bald on top), e. brown, clean shaven, artificial teeth in upper and lower jaw, tattooed back of ( believed) rt. hand ; dress, grey overcoat, dk. suit, brown Trilby hat, boots. Native of London. During October, 1925, was engaged as a painter at a club where he made acquaintance with loser and kept company with her. On 11th November took charge of above property but failed to return same, and on enquiry being made at his lodgings it was found he left on 14th November. It has been ascertained that Ellis resided at an address in Manchester from June to August, and left owing money for his accommodation, and had also pro- posed marriage to a young woman in that City. Had in his possession billheads showing his Manchester address and headed W. Ellis, Decorator and Property Repairer. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Sheffield. Associates with ex- officers and is one himself. Admits having obtained money by worthless cheques in various parts of country. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 48.— Cambridge ( Boro.).— 30th ult., by robbery with violence.— Lady's paste pearl necklace, short single strand, all same size.— Suspicion is attached to A Man, b. about 1890, 5ft. 7in., well build, c. fresh, clean shaven, round face ; dress, dk. suit, bowler hat or grey cap, soft collar, tie, boots. Is of the vagrant class, and may be accompanied by a man ( not concerned), b. 1876 to 1881, 5ft. llin., thin build, c. sallow, cleanshaven, Lancashire accent; dress, pepper and salt mixture overcoat, dk. cap, no collar or tie. A tramp. On evening of 30th ult., occupier of house discovered a man upstairs, in possession of electric torch, searching through a chest of drawers. The man struck her a violent blow on the head, rendering her unconscious. It has since been ascertained that on the previous day a man, answering the description of above, called at the house and asked to be allowed to examine the gas meter, but was refused admission, as he was not wearing uniform. This man was not sent by the gas company. Inf. to the C. C., Cambridge. Among the property stolen from these premises was a dirty brown fibre suit case, which is no doubt the one which was in possession of the above described men, and no doubt contained the stolen property. Left behind : Brace, screw- driver, putty knife, and a heavy jemmy (£- in. at one end and lin. at the other). The brace had been altered from a round to a square at the top grip, by sawing the sides off the circle of wood. The metal band on the putty knife was loose where it joins the handle with the blade. Left his wife at Foleshill on the 11th August, 1925, and stated his intention of proceeding to Doncaster to obtain work at the collieries but nothing has been heard from him since. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 77— Portsmouth ( Boro.).— For stealing 2 18ct. half hoop diamond rings ( recovered) and a gradu- ated pearl necklace, at Southsea, 8th ult.— Nurse McPherson, b. 1886, 5ft. 6in., c. pale, h. dk. brown, e. brown ; dress, mauve frock, nurse's blue uniform coat and bonnet. Accompanied by a man ( not wanted), b. 1891, 5ft. 4in.; c. and h. fair, clean shaven ; dress, blue suit, It. grey cap, spats, boots. An actor. Was engaged as a trained nurse from 23- 11- 25 to 8th ult., when she made an excuse that her mother who is believed to be residing at Louth was dying and that she had to go home at once. Has been employed as a nurse at St. Leonards- on- Sea, Stourmarket, Cambridge and Grimsby, and may apply to these places for a reference. Inf. to the C. O., Portsmouth. SOMERSETSHIRE. 79.— Yeovil ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences.— A Man who gave name of S. Williams, b. 1896, 5ft. 6in., thin build, h. dk., believed clean shaven, well spoken, inclined to stoop : dress, It. overcoat with belt, It. fawn Trilby hat. jazz scarf, boots. Called on secretary of local branch of Typographical Society, said he had been sent by secretary of Liverpool branch for work and had to report to local secretary regarding a situation ( false). Said his credentials and name of firm he had to work for were in the post. Asked for £ 1 as his bag had not arrived at the station, was given that amount and absconded. Was in possession of seaman's pass marked Williams. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Williams, Yeovil. YORKSHIRE ( WEST RIDING). 80.— Sheffield ( City).— For stealing ( servant), 30th ult., £ 1 2s.— Joseph Footitt, b. 1894, 5ft, 6in„ medium build, c. sallow, h. dk., e. blue, clean shaven, limps slightly ; dress, navy blue coat and waistcoat, dk. grey trousers, dk. cap, white muffler, boots. ( bobbed) black : dress, dk. blue costume, short coat, green knitted jumper, grey close fitting hat ( with red trimmings). A domestic servant. On 31st ult. came to her uncle's house and intimated that she had been sent by her grandmother to clean the house. Left on 2nd inst., and after her departure the purses and money were missed.
