MONMOUTHSHIRE. 8.— Newport ( Boro.).— For obtaining marabout fur and £ 4 7s. 6d. by false pretences ( worthless cheque).— Marion Eldon, b. about 1884, 5ft. 3 or 4in., c. fresh, h. dk., false teeth ; dress, brown costume, brown hat ( trimmed white), brown and white veil, It, blouse, low neck, patent leather shoes, wore gold curb bangle and gold wristlet watch. In possession of dk. costume and hat. Called at shop, after the banks were closed, said she was a nurse at local hospital ( false), selected above fur and tendered in payment worthless cheque for £ 5 17s. on the Midland Bank, Cheltenham branch, drawn by E. Wright in favour of Marion Eldon, and received the above amount in change. The cheque was subsequently found to be from a book issued to Mary Murrell, who opened an account June 3rd, with £ 9, and withdrew the amount a couple of days later. The book contained cheques Nos. H. C./ 8 125/ 65941 to 65952, and eight of these cheques have now been received by the bank and returned marked No Account. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Newport. WARWICKSHIRE. 9.— Solihull ( Co.).— For stealing ( servant), at Monkspath, 1st inst., platinum and gold pendant, size ljin. by ljin., triangular shape, scroll work and leaves, the whole set with diamonds, large drop at bottom, can be converted into brooch, neckchain missing; lady's gold watch, plain ; gold tie- pin, set turquoise ; do., set opal sur- rounded with 4 diamonds ; do., set opal ; lady's gold ring, set 3 . small diamonds ; gold chain bracelet, set several large turquoise and pearls alternately, gold padlock fastener ; brown cow- hide suit - case, 36in. x ISin., fitted with ivory brushes and silver mounted cut glass bottles, monogram C. R. C. on brushes and mounts, initials C. R. C. on top of suit- case in black letters ; grey tweed suit, good condition, fit man 5ft, lOin. ; and £ 25.— A Man who gave name of Victor Gordon Laurie, b. 1897, 5ft. 10 or llin., medium build, c. clear, h. fair, e. blue, clean shaven, red mark across the forehead, deep red permanent patch of skm above the mark reaching to the hair, North Country accent ; dress, grey suit, grey cap, brown shoes. Is a good mechanical engineer. Was employed as chauffeur, and during his master's absence went to the latter's room and removed the above jewellery from a jewel, case, afterwards called at the house of his master's son and told servant he had received message instructing him to call for suit- case.
