CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 2.— Cambridge ( Boro.).— For stealing ( hotel) commercial traveller's collection box ( in aid of schools and benevolent) ( recovered), containing £ 2 6s. 6d.— A Man, b. about 1889, 5ft. 9 or lOin. ; dress, brown overcoat, dk. trousers, bowler hat; carried brown leather handbag. Inf. to the C. C., Cambridge. 3.— Cambridge ( Boro.).— For obtaining by false pretences, 17th inst., gent's Royal Enfield bicycle, 26in. frame, colour green, upturned handle- bars ( rusty), rubber pedals, 2 lever brakes, green mud- guards, single speed, dropped frame, part of back brake missing.— W. Jones, b. about 1899, 5ft. 6in., thin build, clean shaven, sharp features ; dress, boots. Called at cycle shop and hired the cycle, giving false address and stating he required the machine for 2 hours to enable him to go and look at a float for local dairyman ( false). Appears identical with Jones, Case No. 83, 28- 4- 24. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Cambridge. KENT. 4— Chatham ( Co.). Engaged lodgings, representing her- self as clerk employed by Ministry of Labour, and had been transferred from Bolton ( false), borrowed money, promising to repay same on 26th inst., when she drew her wages, and absconded. NOTTINGHAMSHIRE. 11.— Nottingham ( City).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, 20th inst.— A Man, I), about 1894, 5ft. 9 or 10in., medium build, c. fresh, clean shaven, round face, good teeth, slouches, slightly round shoulders, plausible; dress, Glen check overcoat, dk. striped suit, striped shirt, black tie, fawn Trilby hat, brown spats, brown shoes, smart appearance ; wore very fine silver watch chain ( long links with gold centre). Called at railway telegraph office, stated he had left his money at home and had not sufficient money to pay his railway fare, and by falsely representing he was a traveller for a Nottingham firm obtained above amount. Signed hotel register where he stayed as J. Kirke, Sunningdale Road, Epsom, and left without paying for his food and lodgings. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Nottingham. SOMERSETSHIRE. 12. Advertised in Auto Car of 4- 1- 24, a Ford landaulette for sale for £ 15, obtained cheque for that amount from loser, and then returned it asking that a money order be sent in place. This was sent by loser and Allen furnished a receipt stating that the vehicle would be forwarded by rail at once. It however was not delivered and it was subsequently ascertained that he had sold the car to another party for £ 30. Several replies were received by Allen, and it is thought that he may have victimised other persons in same manner. — Frederick Allen, alias Kerr, C. R. O. A carter ; usually attends markets in company of low class dealers.
