Accosted loser in street when in possession of motor car. Finding that loser's car was for sale agreed, to purchase it for £ 150, paying with cheque drawn on Williams Deacon's Bank, Cheapside Branch, No. B 39083. Is travelling the country, visited St. Ives, Spalding, Skegness in each of which places he has passed worthless cheques. Poses as a man of means and resides at hotels. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. Native of Middlesbrough. Called at cement works near Brough, 27th ult., and tried to borrow a lamp. Whilst being interrogated, he decamped, leaving stolen machine behind. Played trial game for Boston Football Club, 18th ult., but was not signed on. Last heard of at Hull, 29th ult. Inf. to Supt. Hammond, Stockton- on- Tees. ESSEX. 7. Southend- on- Sea ( Boro.).— For obtaining £ 1, 10th ult., by false pretences.— Edith Smith, b. 1873 to 1883, 5ft. 6 or 7in., good build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown ; dress, lt. skirt, mole jumper, round lt. straw hat, or brown costume and hat, carrying raincoat. Called on a clergyman, stated she was a cook in the employ of the Reverend Canon Lake, Chelmsford, Essex ( false), that she was on holiday and left her handbag containing her money in a railway carriage, and required the money to pay her expenses until she could get in touch with her employer. Called on loser to whom he represented himself as seconel mate of s. s. Tritonia lying at Avonmouth ( false), and obtained loan of above amount on a bogus advance note, promising to return the money in 2 days but failed to do so. Presented himself for enlistment, 20th ult., and was allowed to remain at barracks till 24th ult., when ho was rejected. Left behind his own clothing. Stated bo was a clerk and could speak Spanish and Hindustani. May endeavour to enlist at other recruiting offices. Inf. to Supt. Thompson, Bury. 104. Southport ( Boro.).— For stealing ( servant), 13th ult., £ 5.— James Murphy, b. 1895, 5ft. 10in., slim build, h. brown, e. It. blue, clean shaven ; dress, brown suit, cap, striped shirt, soft collar, boots. Native of Ireland. Was employed as indoor servant and was sent shopping but did not return. Inf. to the C. C., Southport. 105. - Southport ( Boro.).— For stealing ( servant), 8th ult., £ 1.— Robert Robinson, b. 1899, 5ft. 2in., c. and h. dk., olean shaven ; dress, blue check suit ( faded), grey cap, soft collar, dk. tie, boots. An assistant bakor or restaurant doorman ; native of Manchester. Warrant issued. Tnf. to the C. C., Southport. 106. Southport ( Boro.).— For stealing ( bailee), 10th ult., dk. bay gelding, about 13 hands, blind one eye, lump rt. knee ; brown leather halter and saddle, black breeehings ; flat topped spring cart, dk. brown body, blue wheels, William Cannon painted one side ; plaid horse rug ; and gent's old overcoat- Joseph Gresty, alias Cresty, b. about 1858, 5ft. 7in., thin build, ginger moustache; dress, dk. suit, hard hat, clogs. A rag gatherer or hawker. Hired the property for the day and failed to return it. Inf. to the C. C., Southport. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 107.— Newport ( Boro.).— For stealing ( lodgings), 27th ult., 9ot. expanding wristlet watch ; gent's grey suit, Alexandra on tab ; fawn trilby hat.— Fred Evans, b. 1900, 5ft. 4in., slight build, h. fair ( bushy in front), e. blue, thin features, Welsh accent; dress, navy bluo suit, It. cap, black and white striped shirt, soft collar, black knitted tie, or stolen suit. Obtained lodgings, stated he had - driven a wedding party from Llandrindod Wells, and that his motor car was at a local garage ( false). After his departure the above property was missed from another lodger's bedroom. Also disposed of gent's G. W. S. Federation bicycle, No. 10641, 26in. frame with red and gold lines, Sturmey- Archer 3- speed gear, rim brakes, rubber pedals, 28in. wheels, Federation tyres and saddle, nearly new. Warrant issued. Tnf. to the C. C., Newport. STAFFORDSHIRE. 108.- Bilston ( Co.).— For stealing from field at Willenhall, 2 horses— John Twist, C. R. O. No. 19195- 18, b. 1900,5ft. 4Jin., medium build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. grey, clean shaven, cut scar end of nose, centre forehead and 1. eye ; dress, It. suit and cay), boots. A general dealer ; native of Birmingham. Pre. con. of larceny, horsestealing, warehousebreaking and a minor offence at BIR- MINGHAM and OLD HILL. Disposed of the horses to a horse slaughterer at Birmingham. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Higgs, Bilston. SUFFOLK ( EAST). 109.— Lowestoft ( Co.).— For obtaining food by false pretences, between 22nd and 24th ult.— Fred Garner, C. R. O. No. 2748- 16, Cases Nos. 207, Supplement A ( Vol. VIII.), and 11 current issue, for description, etc. , dress, greenish- grey suit ( bluo silk handkerchief in breast pocket), brownish- grey felt trilby hat with raw edge, soft collar, grey tie, grey ribbed socks, brown shoes ( well polished), sometimes wears spectacles. On 22nd ult., engaged lodgings, stating he was relieving manager at local co- operative stores ( false). Said his luggage was at railway station, and he had arranged for it to be delivered, and that he had a motor oar at local garage. Went out morning of 24th ult., and failed to return. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Newson, Lowestoft.
