CONFIDENTIAL Supplement B THE POLICE GAZETTE No. 37. FRIDAY. SEPTEMBER 14, 1923. VOL. X. Convicts on Licence, Persons under Police Supervision and others whose apprehensions are sought for failing to comply with the requirements of the Prevention of Crimes Act. Those bearing names marked * are Licence Holders, and should produce their licences. The first condition of a licence is that the holder shall preserve it and produce it when called upon by a Magistrate OF Police Officer ; but it should be distinctly understood that a Licence Holder is not required to carry his licence upon him. Before preferring a charge of failing to produce a licence it should be ascertained what the defaulter has to say vide Sec. 5, Sub- Sec. 1,7 & 21 Vict., Cap. 47, which requires a Licence Holder to produce his licenoe or show some reason- able excuse why he does not produce the same. N. B.— When a circulation is cancelled, the printed matter relating to the person in question might be ruled through in red ink, without defacing the portrait. Licence Holders and Supervisees. BURNLEY ( BORO.). \ 229.—"" Henry Brough, aliases Stanley Roberts, Harold Moore and Harold Thornton, C. R. O. No. 1592- 06, b. 1882, 5ft. 5Jin., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. grey, red mark nape of neck, scar 1. of nose, bullet wound 1. elbow. A bookbinder; native of Nelson, Lancs. Sentenced at Scarborough Sess., 2- 7- 20, to 3 yrs. pen. ( and remanet of former sentence) for attempted false pretences ( 2 cases) and false pretences. Liberated on licence ( which expires 30- 9- 24), 31- 8- 23, to Burnley. Reported, 1- 9- 23, but could not give an address and was directed to again report as soon as he had obtained one. Failed to do so and enquiries showed that he had left his place of residence, 7- 9- 23. Pre. con. of false pretences, larceny, obtaining credit by fraud and minor offence. Known to police at INGLETON, DARLING- TON, LANCASTER, LEEDS, ACCRINGTON, BURNLEY, SCARBOROUGH, SUNDER- LAND, NELSON and EDINBURGH. Inf. to the C. C., Burnley. LEICESTER ( CITY). 230.—'" Herbert Frank Arthur Charles Kilby, aliases Arthur Horton, Arthur Charles Kilby, John William Chadwick and George Frederick Silvester, C. R. O. No. 1936- 01, b. 1883, 5ft. 6£ in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown ( turning grey), e. grey, scar centre of nose, rt. cheek and 1. jaw, horse's head, TRUE LOVE, etc., rt., girl's head 1. forearm. A baker ; native of Leicester. Sentenced at Knutsford Sess., 13- 10- 19, to 5 yrs. pen. for larceny. Liberated on licence ( which expires 14- 10- 24, 2 days appellant), 10- 7- 23 to Sheffield. Sentenced at Glasgow High Ct., 26- 4- 21, to 3 yrs. pen. for theft ( 2 cases), breach of peace and assaulting police. Liberated on licence, 31- 7- 23, to Glasgow. Failed to report at Glasgow, 3- 9- 23. Pre. con. of larceny, assault by stabbing and Sentenced at Bradford Sess.,. 7- 1- 21, to 3 yrs. pen. for wan housebreaking and larceny. O. 233.— For failing to comply with the conditions of his licence which has been revoked.— James Pearson, aliases Herbert Powell, William Hudson, William Ainsworth, William Hainsworth, George Harrison, Herbert Power and James Ellison, C. R. O. No. 1651- 05, b. 1879, 5ft. 8in„ c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. grey, nose inclines to rt., mole 1. of nose. A labourer or stoker; native of Cleck- heaton. Sentenced at Leeds ( W. R.) Sess., 1- 1- 17, to 5 yrs. pen. and 5 yrs. p. d. for false pretences and being a h. c. Liberated on p. d. licence, 6- 6- 23, to Grimsby. Pre. con. of false pretences and larceny. Known to police at GRIMSBY, WAKEFIELD ( Co.), SPALDING, LINCOLN, THIRSK, BATLEY, BRADFORD, SCARBOROUGH, MALTON, BIRMINGHAM, SALFORD, FELLING- ON- TYNE, SHEFFIELD, KEIGH- LEY and on Y. For portrait, etc., see Case No. 219, Supplement A ( Vol. X.). Arrest also sought for larceny and fraud, vide Cases Nos. 10 and 34, Police Gazette, 17- 8- 23. Inf. to above office. On discharge returned to his home at Liphook, Hants, came to London, later joined the Army and deserted from Preston Barracks, to go out with an ex- Borstal girl on or about 7- 7- 23. Pre. con. of cyclestealing and larceny. Known to police at ALDERSHOT and on L and W. If arrested, a telegram or telephonic message should be sent to C. R. O., when arrangements will be made for an escort to fetch him. Apprehensions. 235.— John Simpson, C. R. O. No. 679- 08, Case No. 153 ( Vol. X.), is in custody on S, charged with larceny. Persons Licensed from a Borstal Institution. C. R. O. No. 3290- 20, b. 1904, 5ft. 6£ in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue. A labourer ; native of London. 234.— For failing to comply with the conditions Sentenced at Hants Sess., 6- 4- 20, to 3 yrs. detention in a B. I. for cyclestealing. Liberated on licence, 16- 3- 23, to the care of the B. A. 0 of his licence which has been revoked.— Henry Mason, alias Arthur William Davies, C. R. O.
