KENT. 8.— Tollbridge ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 4 by false pretences, at Edenbridge.— Leslie Snook, aliases Robert Henry Leslie Snook, Mr. Snooks and Joe Diment, C. R. O. No. 20267- 21, Case No. 81, 2- 7- 23, b. 1898, 5ft. 7in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. blue ; dress, dk. brown suit, grey felt hat, fawn raincoat, black shoes. A timber merchant; native of Dorchester. Pre. con. of fraud, obtaining credit l> v fraud and a minor offence at WEYMOUTH, GLASTONBURY, FORDINGBRIDGE ( Leslie Snook) and on S. Called on farmer, stated his car had broken down a few miles away, that it was at garage and would cost £ 4 for new tyre. He said he was short of cash and that he was a Dorchester man, at same time mentioning names of persons with whom loser was acquainted. Loser gave him cheque for above amount which he ( accused) promised to repay on 16th ult., but failed to do so. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Ford, Tonbridge. LANCASHIRE. 9.— Manchester ( City).— For obtaining £ 30 by false pretences, 11- 4- 23.— Alice Walker, alias Grundy, b. 1891, 4ft. 1 lin., medium build, c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey, speaks sharply, very plausible ; dress, coney seal coat, black hat ( trimmed red flowers), respectable appearance. Inserted advertisement asking for partner. Told loser she was a registered money lender, and had an office at Pendlebury. Stated all her money was lent out at good rate of interest, and induced loser to advance £ 30. Her statements were subsequently found to be false. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Manchester. 10.— Rochdale ( Co.).— For stealing at Norden, 28th ult., gent's silver watch ( recovered) and It. grey waistcoat.— Harry Steele, b. 1868 to 1873, 5ft. l() in., medium build, c. dk., h. dk. brown ( turning grey), long dk. moustache ; dress, dk. jacket, It. grey cardigan, dk. brown corduroy trousers, It. cap, probably stolen vest, boots. A labourer ; native of Burbage. May seek employ- ment on farms. Spoke of going to Derbyshire. Inf. to Supt. Kenyon, Rochdale. 11.— Rochdale ( Co.).— For obtaining by false pretences, 9th ult., one 7J focus Dallmeyer Series II. No. 4 Stigmatic F/ 6 photographic lens, large Unicum photographic shutter.- Charles Bennett, b. 1878 to 1883, 5ft. oin., c. fair ; dress, It. raincoat, dk. suit. Answered advertisement in Amateur Photographer, received above goods, and absconded. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Kenyon, Rochdale. 12.— Southport ( Boro.).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, between 11th and 14th ult.- Charles Sinclair, b. 1888 to 1893, 5ft. 7in., medium build, c. pale, clean shaven, well spoken ; dress, grey sports coat, blue trousers and vest, cap, butterfly collar, black tie, black brogue shoes. In possession of pair brown shoes and It. trilby hat. Stated he had come from London, with his employer, in a Humber motor car which he had garaged locally ( false). Left behind green canvas suit- case containing tweed overcoat, 2 grey caps, blue striped shirt, pair lady's black gaiters, and several gent's ties. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Southport. 13.— Warrington ( Boro.).— Albert Willett, Case No. 83, 2- 7- 23, is identical with Albert Matthew Williets, C. R. O. No. 3136- 16, b. 1898, 5ft. 8Jin., c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey. A painter ; native of Birmingham. Obtained lodgings, stated he was clerk on the Cheshire Lines Com- mittee Railway Company and had been transferred locally ( false). C., Leicester. 16.— Market Harborough ( Co.).— For stealing cow ( recovered), at Little Bowden, 30th ult.— Maurice J. Brown, b. about 1873, 5ft. 5 or 6in., e. fresh, h. and moustache ( drooping) dk. brown, splay- footed, slovenly gait ; dress, new grey sports coat, grey flannel trousers, It. fancy waistcoat with small white spots and imitation pearl buttons, It. cap, It. coloured shirt, collar and tie, carried ash stick. A cattle drover ; native of Rutland. May be found at the following cattle markets :— Leicester, Malton, Loughborough, Northampton, Kettering, Wellingborough, Rugby, Stamford and Peterborough. LINCOLNSHIRE. 17.— Boston ( Boro.).— For obtaining £ 20 by false pretences, 21- 3- 23.— Kathleen Powley, alias Maitland, b. 1897 or 1898, 5ft. 1 to 3in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown ( bobbed), e. brown or blue, round features, good teeth, refined speech ; dress, navy blue coat frock, small close fitting hat, sometimes wears navy serge costume ( plain skirt, coat has braided patch pockets) and small blue close fitting silk hat. Obtained furniture from dealers in London on hire purchase system, and sold same to loser, representing that the goods were her own property and signing written statement to this effect. Has boy aged about 12 inos,. and may be accompanied by Cecil or Cyril Maitland ( supposed husband), ( not wanted), b. about 1897, 5ft. 6in., slim build, c. sallow, h. and e. dk., Roman nose, running gait when walking. Warrant issued. Inf. to tho C. C., Boston. 18.— Epworth ( Co.).— For obtaming £ 1 10s. by false pretences, at Haxey, 28- 5- 23.— A Man who gave name of W. G. Twyford, b. about 1883, 5ft. 6 or 7in., medium build, c. sallow or dk., bluish nose ; dress, dk. grey suit, collar and tie, boots ( worn at heels). Told loser he was super- intendent of telephone workers engaged at local post office, and was selling educational books in his spare time. Obtained 30s. from loser for 8 volumes of Dickens and a book case, but failed to deliver the goods Warrant issued. Inf. to Insp. Quibell, Epworth. C., Worcester. 25.— Worcester ( City).— For stealing from common lodging house, clothing ( recovered), 30th ult.— A Man, b. about 1897, 5ft. 6in., medium build, c. fresh, h. very dk., clean shaven; dress, blue jacket and vest, dk. grey trousers, dk. cap, black necktie, brown boots ( blacked over) with Phillips rubber soles. Accompanied by a woman ( not wanted), b. 1897 to 1900, 5ft. 5in., medium build, c. fresh ; dress, bright blue coat and skirt, brown straw hat with blue band, respectable appearance.
