METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 1.— R Division.— For stealing ( bailfee) £ 350 ( Bank of England notes).- Edmund Albert Cavell, b. 1897, 5ft. 9in., slim build, h. brown, e. blue, sometimes has a moustache, inveterate smoker ; dress, It. grey lounge suit, bowler hat, white collar, grey and mauve tie, brown socks and boots. Became friendly with loser, who entrusted him with money to purchase War Bonds for her. This he failed to do and absconded. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. O. BERKSHIRE. 2.— Reading ( Boro.).— For obtaining 8 fowls and 3 cheeses by false pretences, at Shinfield, 23rd and 25th ult.— A. Covell, alias Arthur Miller, b. 1891, 5ft. 3Jin., medium build, h. dk. brown ( frizzy), e. grey, heavy dk. moustache, thick lips, dimple in chin, 4th rt. finger missing ; dress, navy blue suit, dk. cap. Obtained above property from dairyman by falsely representing that he was licensee of public house. An associate of low class dealers and gipsies. DENBIGHSHIRE. 3.— Colwyn Bay ( Co.).— George Truloue, Case No. 6, 25- 6- 23, is believed identical with George E. Trulove, C. R. O. No. 22592- 18, b. 1896, 5ft. 3fin., c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. blue ( blind 1.). Native of Sheffield. Pre. con. of larceny and obtaining charitable contributions by fraud at COL- CHESTER ( George Truelove) and NEWPORT ( MON.) ( George E. Trulove). DURHAM. 4.— Darlington ( Co.).— For stealing ( lodgings), 26th ult., lady's long gold guard ; gold bracelet, chased on top ; lady's gold dress ring, set row of 5 diamonds each side and sapphire in centre; gold pendant with chain attached and turquoise drop ; gold tie- pin with horse's head thereon ; gold cross, chased on top ; pair amber earrings, set with small diamonds ; split ring containing a number of keys ( one of which is a safe key); 2 £ 5 Bank of England notes; and £ 8 4s. 6d.- George Stanley Steel Dinsdale, alias George Henderson, C. Phillibrown, Clacton- on- Sea. 6.— Colchester ( Boro.).— For stealing ( trick) £ 5, 27th ult.— William T Cooper, b. about 1891 to 1893, 5ft. 9 or 10in., c. fresh, h. and moustache ( thick) fair ; dress, dk. grey suit ( much worn), greenish fawn trilby hat and khaki collar.— Man ( stated by former to be his brother), b. 1895 to 1898,5ft. llin., slim build, c. sallow, h. fair ( brushed well back), slight cast in one eye, thin face, high cheek bones ; dress, blue serge suit ( worn and shiny), cap, khaki shirt, It. fawn socks. Called on Commissioner of Boy Scouts and stated that they had come to this country in connection with the embarkation of Canadian cattle eight* weeks ago to be employed at various ports by an importer, but on their arrival had found that other men had been employed. They were thus left stranded and were in communication with the Agent- General for Ontario about their treatment and produced letter with printed crest purporting to be written and signed by the Agent- General in London to the effect that the Canadian Government had ceased to repatriate ex- service men but, that if they could get to Liverpool arrangements would be made for them to work their passage back as stewards ( false). Cooper also said they were ex- Canadian officers and that he was Scout Master at Port Arthur, St. John's, Ontario, and produced documents in proof which are probably false. Appear identical with William Thomas Cooper and Claude Valentine, Case No. 8, 27- 6- 23. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Colchester. 7.— Grays ( Co.).— James E. No. S/ 140270, b. 1893, 5ft. 5Jin., c, fresh, h. brown, e. blue, scars on forehead. A labourer ; native of Hull. Pre. con. of larceny and cyclestealing at GRIMSBY, HULL and SNAITH. Warrant issued. C., Grimsby. 20.— Lincoln ( City).— For stealing ( trick) £ 20 15s., 29th ult.— Two Men : 1st, b. about 1896, 5ft. 9 or 10in., stiff build, c. fresh, brown, round face, clean shaven; dress, brown suit, dk. trilby hat, collar and dk. tie.— 2nd, b. about 1885, 5ft. 6 or 7in., medium build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, small brown moustache ; dress, It. grey suit, fawn trilby hat, It. fawn raincoat, soft white collar, dk. tie. One of men approached loser and asked him the way to a certain public house, and the latter volunteered to accompany him there. On tho way they met the second man who pointed out a commission agent's house. The first man then left, but returned shortly afterwards, saying he had won £ 200 on a horse. The second man then handed the first £ 1, asked him to put it on a horse, and the latter left and returned shortly afterwards and handed the second man a £ 5 note, which he said ho had won. Loser was then induced to part with £ 20 15s. and was afterwards informed he had won £ 103, and requested to be at the General Post Office later, when he would be paid out. Believed to have gone to Birmingham. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Lincoln. NORTHUMBERLAND. 21.— Tynemouth ( Boro.).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, 27th ult.— Captain Sander, b. 1883 to 1885, about 5ft. 8in., well built, c. bronzed, h. dk., clean shaven, nail ( supposed) 1st rt. linger damaged, speaks English fairly well; dress, brown pin stripe suit, It. grey felt trilby hat, blue and white striped dress shirt, standup linen collar, grey tie with white stripe ( tie brought between the wearer's neck and the collar), and brown boots, wire gold watch and thin gold chain across breast. Native of ( states) Norway. Called on a water clerk of a ship chandler and stated that he was the master of the s. s. " Olive Bank," then lying in the Tyne and gave large order for stores. He spent the whole day and night with loser and stating he had lost his wallet he borrowed 10s., and, whilst pretending to accompany loser to ship, absconded at railway station. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Tynemouth. STAFFORDSHIRE. 22.— Stoke- on- Trent ( Boro.).— For neglecting his children, 28th ult., and divers former dates.— Philip Trow, b. 1885, 5ft. 7 or 8in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, clean shaven, thin features, lost 4th 1. finger ; dress, navy blue trousers, dk. grey jacket and vest, black muffler and dk. grey cap ( usually worn on back of head). A bricklayer's labourer ; native of Stoke- on- Trent. Absconded 28th ult., and spoke of visiting Leek in an endeavour to secure work with builders there. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. SUFFOLK ( EAST). 23.— Halesworth ( Co.).— For being concerned with William Tye ( in custody), in stealing wallet and £ 6 from motor car, at Blyford, 29th ult.— — Wilson, b. about 1899, 5ft. 6 or 7in., c. fresh, h. dk. brown ( long), clean shaven, walks erectly ; dress, grey suit, brown cap, pink silk wrapper, striped shirt, yellow socks, brown boots with rubber heels and soles. Bugden, Uckfield. 133.— Marlborough ( Co.).— For obtaining goods and money by false pretences ( worthless cheque). - Lachlan Hay Stuart, l>. 1888 to 1893, 5ft. 6 or 7in., medium build, h. very fair ( brushed back), e. hazel, believed slight fair moustache, walks very erectly, well educated ; dress, navy blue pin stri] X' suit, soft striped collar, believed bow- tie, black boots, does not wear hat, smart appearance. Talks chiefly about books and states he is a journalist. Obtained goods from tradesman and tendered in payment cheque on London City and Midland Bank, Ltd., Clapham Junction Branch ( L.), and received balance in cash. Cheque was subsequently returned marked No Account, Accompanied by his wife, Margaret Stuart, b. 1884, 5ft. 9in., stout build, c. sallow, h. black ( turning grey) ; dress, dk. brown costume or It, grey cloth skirt and white silk blouse, straw colour hat ( trimmed yellow and blue flowers) ; also child, Patricia Margaret Stuart, age 2 yrs., h. very fair, e. hazel.
