O. 2.— W Division.— For obtaining credit £ 64 lis. 2d. by fraud.— Lawrence J. Summerbell, b. 1883, 5ft. 4in., slim build, h. fair, e. blue, clean shaven, stooping gait, effeminate voice ; dress, blue serge suit, blue nap overcoat, bowler hat, spats, shoes.— James Latimer, alias Latiomer, b. 1902, 5ft. 8in., slim build, h. and e. black, clean shaven, man of colour, walks erect, well sopken ; dress, It. grey suit, grey soft felt hat, shoes. Called on loser, a boarding- house keeper, and asked if he could supply them with board and lodgings for indefinite period. Summerbell represented that he was to shortly inherit £ 20, 000 and Latimer said that with the aid of a solicitor he was assisting Summerbell to the claim for the legacy. Managed a confectioner's business during owner's illness, advertised the business for sale, representing it was his own property and was paid above amount by loser. Warrant issued. Inf. to C. R. O. CITY OF LONDON. 4.— For obtaining quantity of silk value £ 197 8s. 5d. by false pretences ( worthless cheque), 28th March.— Nathan Roman, b. 1898, 5ft. 7in., medium build, c. and h. ( curly) dk., e. brown, Jewish appearance ; dress, grey suit, brown velour hat, collar and tie, boots, very smart appearance. Native of Poland, but speaks English fluently. Warrant issued. ESSEX. 8.— Romford ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 1 5s. by false pretences ( worthless cheque), 19th ult.- Man, b. about 1873, 5ft. 9 or 10in., c.' fresh, moustache fair ( clipped), well spoken ; dress, fawn motor coat with, storm collar ( rather greasy), dk. grey cap, appearance of a military officer. Called at loser's house on market day, where a board advertised fowls and eggs for sale. Represented he was steward to titled gentleman and agreed to purchase number of chicks, etc., and arranged to meet loser next day at local hotel. Called again next morning in absence of loser and induced his wife to accept payment for chicks by cheque No. A. 24822 for £ 8 4s., on London County Westminster and Parr's Bank, Walham Green Branch, drawn in favour of L. E. Adams and signed C. E. Brandon and received balance of £ 1 5s. The chicks, etc., were not taken away. Believed identical with George Henry Wilson, C. R. O. GLOUCESTERSHIRE . 10.— Gloucester ( Co.).— For stealing ( lodgings) 9ct. keyless watch, gold face, black hands and numerals ; 9ct. double chain, long twisted links, seal with photo either side attached.— A Man who gave name of George, b. 1893 to 1895, 5ft. 5 or 6in., slim build, c. dk., h. short, cast one eye, clean shaven, thin features, long nose, Birmingham accent ; dress, It. grey suit ( shabby and dirty), brown trilby hat, dirty fawn raincoat, soft collar, striped tie, boots, carries 2 fountain pens in waist- coat pocket. Engaged lodgings, 4th ult., stated he came from Crewe and had obtained work as mechanic at local garage ( false). Left house, 4th inst., did not return and above property was later missed from bedroom. Also appears identical with A Man who on 3rd inst., represented to an unemployed youth that he was manager of Newcastle Benzol Co.' s branch and promised to endeavour to get him employment . Made appoint- ment for following day when he borrowed the youth's cycle to go to Post Office and failed to return. Description of bicycle : Gent's, B. S. A., 26in. dropped frame, 26in. wheels, all black enamel, 3- speed Sturmey- Archer gear, North Road handle, bars, No. 39514 underneath saddle on down bar- Bates tyre on front, studded tyre on back, rat- trap pedals, revolving bell on right side handle- bars, no tool- bag, no front brake, short pull- up brake on back wheel, rusty rims, carrier on back fixed to forks, Bluemel pump, no lamp. KENT. 12.— Folkestone ( Boro.).— For stealing, 5th inst gold ring, set 5 pearls ; do., oblong shape, set emeralds and diamonds, emerald in centre, 4 small emeralds in each corner surrounded diamonds ; platinum do., set square sapphire in centre, surrounded small diamonds and sapphires ; do., oval shape, surrounded rows of diamonds and sapphires ; gold square brooch, set large emerald surrounded diamonds; flexible neckchain, com- posed of diamonds with large pearl drop ; sovereign dated 1910 ; platinum round crystal locket pendant surrounded diamonds, platinum chain attached, locket contains fair hair; silver cigarette- case, crest of camel's head thereon ; gold bracelet, fine chain mesh, set turquoise and pearls ; gold mounted amber cigar- holder ; small red velvet jewel- case, about 2Jin. square, lined white satin, Garrard & Co., Ltd., Goldsmiths and Silversmiths, 24, Albe- marle Street, London, W., inside.— A Man who gave name of Barrington or Carrington, b. 1898 to 1900, 5ft. 6 or 7in., medium build, clean shaven ; dress, blue suit, bowler hat, black socks and shoes. Carried umbrella and dk. gloves. Telephoned from good- class hotel to house agent, stating he wished to rent furnished house for his mother and sister. With the agent was shown over house by servant during occupier's absence and made appointment to call later. Shortly before appointed time returned, and was left alone in drawing room to await occupier, upon whose arrival he was found to have absconded and the jewellery was missed from a bedroom. Also hired taxi to take him to Dover and on arrival there told driver to return for him later and disappeared. Inf. to the C. C., Folkestone. LANCASHIRE. 13.— Leigh ( Co.).— For stealing, 2nd or 3rd inst., gent's Golden Sunbeam cycle, black enamelled, with gold lines, No. 116551, 24in. frame, 28in. wheels, Palmer tyres, gear- case with oil bath, 2 lever rim brakes, Brooks saddle, oblong toolbag, headlock broken, metal mudguards, aluminium carrier attached over rear wheel with case strapped on.— Man, b. 1893, 5ft. 5 or 6in., h. dk., clean shaven ; dressed, khaki trousers, dk. jacket, cap, soft collar, boots. Inf. to Supt. Whitehead, Leigh. 14.— Manchester ( City).— For obtaining £ 4 by trick, 2nd inst.-— A Man who gave name of Leon, b. 1887 to 1891, 5ft. 10 or llin., proportionate build, c. sallow, e. dk., long face, clean shaven, Jewish appearance; dress, It. grey suit, fawn raincoat, grey tri. by hat, white collar, white pique tie with diamond pin therein. Accosted loser in street, stated that, whilst under influence of drink, he had been robbed by a woman of his money and valuables, and asked for help. Loser gave him the above amount under the belief that he was a Mr. Leon, brother of a friend of loser's, but subsequently discovered that the man was unknown to him. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Manchester. 15.— Manchester ( City).— For obtaining 5s. 6d. by false pretences, 21st ult.— William Leech, b. 1889, 5ft. 6in., proportionate build, h. and e. brown, clean shaven, slight lisp ; dress, dk. grey suit, bowler hat, soft collar, tie, buttoned boots, shabby appearance. Falsely represented to loser that he was authorised to collect on behalf of British Legion, and obtained the above amount on the understanding that loser would be made a member. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Manchester. 16.— Old Trafford ( Co.).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, at Failsworth, 8th ult.— Ernest Davies, b. 1886, 5ft. 2in., medium build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, clean shaven, limps, deformed rt. shoulder, speaks quickly ; dress, shabby dk. over- coat with velvet collar, blue suit, bowler hat, collar and tie, boots. A canvasser. Loser pur- chased some books from Davies and paid by deposits. Davies was eventually discharged but continued to collect deposits. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Yates, Old Trafford. 17.— Old Trafford ( Co.).— For stealing ( bailee) 32s., at Eccles, 4th inst.— Edward Redvers, alias Charles Edward Gardenne, b. 1903, 5ft. 7in., stifi build, c. fresh, h. dk. brown, clean shaven ; dress, It. grey jacket, blue vest, dk. grey trousers, brown cap, scarf, fawn raincoat. An engineer ; native of U. S. A. I Ye. con. of larceny, fowlstealing, receiving and fraud at CHATHAM, WEST MALLING ( Samuel James Tasney), BELFAST ( Samuel J. Watson) and on R and Y. Carried on business as cycle agent with his son Frank Adams, C. R. O. No. 1667- 08, Case No. 8, 25- 4- 23, and obtained money from local tradesman by worthless cheque. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Edinburgh NORTHAMPTONSHIRE . 19.— Northampton ( Boro.). Walker, Case No. 92. 4- 5- 23, is identical with Henry Watson, alias Frederick Colin Ferguson, C. R. O. No. 229- 21, Case No. 21 current issue, for description, etc. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Northampton. NORTHUMBERLAND. 20.— Newcastle- upon- Tyne ( City).— For obtain- ing credit by fraud other than false pretences.— Arthur Taylor, b. 1892, 5ft. 8in., slim build, c. sallow, clean shaven, plausible ; dress, dk. grey suit and trilby hat, collar, tie, smart appearance. A clerk ; native of Gateshead. Was employed by L. & N. E. Railway till 3- 3- 23, and wrote letters on company's notepaper to jewellers stating he wished to purchase a ring or watch for his wife, but as he was short of cash promised to pay in one month. Obtained jewellery from several jewellers, pledged it same day and sold the pawn- tickets. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Newcastle- upon- Tyne. OXFORDSHIRE. 21.— Banbury ( Boro.).— Man who gave name of J. Wood, Case No. 80, 26- 2- 23, is identical with Henry Watson, alias Frederick Colin Ferguson, C. R. O. No. 229- 21, Case No. 16, 20- 12- 22, b. 1895, 5ft. 11 Jin., c. fresh, h. brown, e. blue. A dealer ; native of Birmingham. Pre. con. of larceny and horsestealing at BIRMINGHAM ( Frederick Ferguson), NOTTINGHAM ( Collin Ferguson), WARWICK ( Henry Watson), PLYMOUTH ( Colin Ferguson) and NEWTON ABBOT ( John MacDonald). SOMERSETSHIRE. 23.— Weston- super- Mare ( Co.).— For stealing ( lodgings) £ 2, 30th ult.— Man who gave name of Vickers, b. 1878, 5ft. 6in., slight build, h. fair ( bald on top), e. blue, clean shaven, North Country accent, walks with short quick steps; dress, It. tweed suit, dk. grey overcoat, fawn velour trilby hat, It. khaki socks and brown stioes. Called at private house and asked for rooms stating he was chauffeur to Sir George and Lady Bart, who were staying at local hotel. He left house following morning, stating he would return for lunch, but failed to do so, and, after he had left, money was missed. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Richardson, Weston- super- Mare. Sheffield ( City).— For stealing ( lodgings), 2- 2- 23, suit of clothes and £ 8.— A Man, b. 1883 to 1886, 5ft. 6in., medium build, h. dk. brown, clean shaven, round face, flat nose, good teeth ; dress, grey suit, lemon cardigan, grey check overcoat ( square pockets, belt around), double collar, brown boots. On 1- 2- 23 engaged lodgings and following morning left ostensibly to fetch his luggage from station. Returned with largo cardboard box and went out again with the box saying he was going to post it. Did not return and it was then found that the suit was missing and the money had been taken from a fellow lodger's box. Inf. to the C. C., Sheffield. ( L.)— X Division case— till 10th inst., charged as Sidney Bowman with stealing diamond ring ( recovered) and cheque book on London, County and West- minster Bank, Ltd., Connaught Street Branch, believed to have contained about 12 blank cheques. Prisoner, who was a frequenter of bridge clubs, made acquaintance of lady whilst at club, was invited to her residence and stole cheque book ; also obtained ring on pretext that he wanted to take it to jeweller in order to purchase similar one. Is believed to have obtained money and goods by cheques.— Sydney Williams, aliases Isaac Bowman and Sidney Lewis, C. R. O. SUSSEX ( EAST). 165.- Hastings ( Boro.).— For obtaining £ 2 by false pretences, 4th inst.— Albert George Hunter, aliases Arthur George Williams, A. G. Wardy, A. F. Copping, A. C. Hardy, A. F. Harris and Albert Frederick Coppinger, C. R. O. No. 424- 17, Cases Nos. 354, Supplement A ( Vol. IV.) and 25 current issue for description, etc., thin build, protruding ears, very plausible ; dress, It. greyish- sandy tweed suit, biscuit coloured trilby hat with brown band, carried It. rainproof coat, wore silver watch chain with square charm attached. Engaged room at restaurant, stating he had just returned from the Fiji Islands and had an aeroplane at Eastbourne. Next morning he requested landlady to take charge of a valuable paper and later asked her if she could let him have some money, as he desired to pay clearance fees at aerodrome and cost of his man's lodgings, etc. Loser gave him £ 2 and he absconded. The valuable paper he gave loser bore name, etc., of Messrs. Domingo Bath & Co., Shipping Agents, Buenos Aires, and was signed McWilliams, Master, being to the effect that he would draw £ 640 6s. at the G. P. O., Hastings, on 4th inst., and was tilled in with name A. F. Warris, Chief Officer, Wray Castle and had rubber stamp— Agents, Rotterdam, May 2nd, 1923, thereon. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Hastings. 166.- Hove ( Boro.).— For stealing ( trick), 7th inst., blue yoru crepe gown, net collar edged with fancy lace, two black moire ribbon streamers down front from neck, small white buttons ; red and white striped do., small bands close to shoulder ; pale blue crepe de chine do., deep collar front and back ; black georgette do., trimmed royal blue ; black crepe de chine do., trimmed jade, has jet sequins round bottom ; blue mixture cotton do., white organdie collar and cuffs ; and cornflower blue voile do., trimmed white lace. Each gown has tab at back with Evelyn, Costumier, Hove, thereon.—' Woman who gave name of Browne, b. 1890, 5ft. 4in., well built, c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. brown, small pointed nose, good regular teeth ( 4 false upper jaw), short thick neck, well spoken ; dress, brown costume and felt hat, woollen scarf, smart appearance. Called at shop and stated that her mother, who was residing at local address, wished to know price of costume that was exhibited in shop window. Later in day, accused called again and stated that her mother wished to try on costume and arranged a date for her to call, at same time asking that some gowns be sent on approval to address given. The above described gowns were sent by messenger and accused standing on steps of house without a hat, asked messenger if she had come from shop in question and then took box, signing receipt book in name of Browne. Subsequent enquiries show - that accused is not known at house, which is converted into flats, front door being open during day. Inf. to the C. C., Hove. YORKSHIRE ( EAST RIDING). 167.- Brough ( Co.).— For obtaining food and lodgings byfalse pretences, between 1st and 3rd inst. Lawrence Larrington, alias 0. or B. Carrington, b. about 1893, 6ft., thin build, e. blue, long thin face, clean shaven, South Country accent, good address ; dress, dk. suit, grey overcoat, It. trilby hat, collar, tie, shoes. Arrived at hotel, 1st inst., stated his car had broken down at outlying village, where he had left his man with it for repairs. Left, stating he was going to catch train, and later returned saying he had missed it, and would stay until his car was repaired. Following day telephoned to hotel asking for Mr. Larrington to be informed that the car would be ready next day and that his father was sending him some money. Left, 3rd inst., and did not return. Appears identical with Laurence Hope, Case No. 12, 23- 4- 23. Is also suspected of stealing ( dwelling, breaking scullery window and releasing catch) during absence of occupier, on 3rd inst.— Lady's 18ct. ring, set 3 diamonds, level setting, slightly chased at each end of setting ; gold bangle, curb pattern, padlock attached ; long gold neck watch guard. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Huddleston, Brough.
