Gosport ( Co.).— For stealing lady's purse containing about £ 7 15s. and miniature of soldier, 3rd inst.— A Man, b. about 1900, rather tall ; dress, brown or fawn mackintosh or coat, grey trilby hat, champagne colour socks, brown shoes. Walked up to loser ( a woman) from behind, knocked the purse she was carrying out of her hand, picked it up and absconded. Inf. to Supt. Great Yarmouth ( Boro.).— For obtaining £ 12 by false pretences ( worthless cheque).— A Man who gave name of A. Oxborrow, b. about 1878, about ( ift., very heavy build, c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey, clean shaven; dress, grey pin striped coat,- grey flannel trousers, It. loose cut tweed overcoat, grey cap, wore washleather gloves, in possession of brown suit; carried green canvas suit- case, A. O. thereon ; brown canvas do. ; brown leather attache- case, and 2 brown haversacks. Stayed at hotel, borrowed 2 blank cheques on Barclay's Bank from landlord, and gpbstituted Devonport for the address of local branch. Induced loser to exchange cheques and subsequently the cheque referred to was returned from Devonport marked No Account. In the meantime, however, Oxborrow cashed the cheque he received from loser at the local branch of Lloyd's Bank. Also tendered cheque to pay his hotel bill and received £ 11 change. Represented himself to be a Freemason, 433 Lodge of Hope, and visited the local masonic club. Accompanied by a boy, b. about 1911, tall ; dress, grey tweed knicker suit, blue overcoat, dk. school cap with red badge ( shield with Belmont, Lewisham, thereon); and black and grey spaniel bitch, answers to name of Betty. MISCELLANEOUS. 78.— Attention is called to John Bird, Thorpe Lodge, Eastern Esplanade, Southend- on- Sea, trading as the Anglian Trading Company at 27, Clarence Street, in that Borough, and dealing in fur, skins and horsehair. Circulars have been sent out by him to all parts of the country inviting persons to send on parcels of skins, etc., and many complaints have been received as to his method of trading, money being forwarded by him only after considerable trouble and visits by the Police. Bird makes many excuses, saying he has been busy or overlooked ,- jetters, he makes no attempt to conduct his business in a satisfactory manner, and is rarely in attendance. Called on officials of County Associations or Clan Societies having branches in Edinburgh, stated he was native of the county or member of the clan concerned, that he had a sister in Flushing from whom he expected to receive money, that he was in need of assistance and would repay any sum advanced.
