Watts approached complainant at horse sale and stated he had a horse for sale and had been offered £ 28 for it by a Mr. Jackson of Leicester, who wanted to pay him by cheque, which, however, he would not accept. Willey then joined them and prevailed upon complainant to buy horse for him. Watts would not accept complainant's cheque and latter took them to tradesman he knew. Called on a masonic almoner and falsely repre- sented he was a masonic brother in distress, being a member of No. 191, St. John's Lodge of Free- masons, Bury. Stated he had experienced con- siderable financial difficulties, having had a motor garage at Bury ( false), which was sold up and that he had since travelled country seeking employment as motor fitter. Further stated that he was relieved on 3rd inst., at Leek, and was going to Manchester. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. Represented to loser that he was traveller for Newcastle Benzol Coy., Ltd., and was given an order for 10 gallons and £ 1 payment for same. Subsequent enquiries showed that he had ceased to represent the above firm since 30- 9- 20. Appears identical with C. G. Ward, Case No. 73. 11- 9- 22. Warrant issued. WARWICKSHIRE . 152.— Birmingham ( City).— For obtaining £ 6 by false pretences ( worthless cheque), 11- 7- 22.— Sidney Williams, b. 1894 to 1.896, oft. 9in., medium build, h. fair, clean shaven, Jewish appearance, American accent; dress, It. grey suit and It. felt- hat. Went into hotel and asked loser to cash him a cheque. Stated he had left his cheque book in other clothes and asked to borrow one of loser's cheques, saying that he would put his bank on it. Loser handed him cheque on London Joint City & Midland Bank, Snow Hill, Birmingham, and accused substituted name for Lloyd's Bank, Birmingham. Cheque was later presented for payment and returned marked No Account. Frequents good class hotels and dancing halls, and is said to have represented himself as a theatrical agent. Warrant issued.
