Told loser that he had a barrow and ladder} for sale for 10s. Loser gave him this amount but Cropper failed to deliver the goods. Rented small room in Liverpool from which he senfr out typewritten letters and price lists headed Charles Ellis & Sons, Importers and Provi- sion Merchants, From quayside to retailers. jjPrice list quotes goods at low prices and one of the conditions is cash with order. Loser gave order and enclosed cheque for above amount, which was endorsed Charles Ellis & Sous. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Robertson, Market Harborough. SUSSEX ( WEST). 18.— Worthing ( Co.).— For stealing gent's Chase bicycle, black enamelled, gold lined, carrier on back, nearly new ; blue suit, Hepworth on tab, nearly new ; fawn mackintosh, with belt.— Francis J. A. Hazell, b. 1901, 5ft. 7in., c. dk., clean shaven ; dress, It. grey suit, black trilby hat ( stains around brim), soft collar, tie, smart appearance. Was employed as wages clerk and obtained the above amount from another employee by represent- ing he had a number of War Savings certificates which he would sell at 15s. each, and which would mature in 1923. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 115 — Criminal Record Office.— Several cases of mail bag larcenies have occurred on the Great Western Railway in the West of England, and amongst the contents have been letters which contained share certificates and valuable securities. Four anonymous letters have been received by various losers, couched in the same terms with the exception of the name of newspaper in which the advertisement was to be inserted. The envelopes bore the postmarks— London, S. W. I, Manchester and Southampton. The handwriting on each is identical, a reproduction of which is inserted below.
