Holgate, Accrington, inside).— James Day, aliases Baxter, Richard James Keogh and Richard Keogh, C. R. O. No. 15480- 16, b. 1890, 5ft. 7in., c. fresh, h. brown, e. grey, clean shaven ; dress, dk. overcoat, black bowler hat, wing collar, tie ; smart appearance. Native of Australia. Telephoned loser above date, represented himself as a brewer in a neighbouring town, stated he wished to purchase an engagement ring for his nephew and arranged for the latter to call on him. Called at loser's shop same evening, referred to the telephone message of the morning, selected the above rings and was allowed to take them away, ostensibly to submit them to his fiancee for selection, on the understanding thCv were to be returned the following day. Additional inf.- Lewis or Louis Morgan also obtained, 24th ult., by means of worthless cheque, fine quality Indian pearl neck- lace, pearls all equal size, platinum snap, in oval shaped case, silk lined, H. On 14th ult., he hired a motor cycle from a dealer for 1 week, paid by cheque in advance, which was duly met. He agreed to hire the machine for another week but decamped with same. In possession of heavy leather kit- bag and small typewriter.
