THE POLICE SPECIAL NOTICE With reference to the Special Notice dated 13th May, 1921, the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis has to draw attention to the fact that some Police Forces are using the special envelopes - for the transmission of routine matter. He asks for the co- operation of all Chief Constables and Superintendents to ensure that the envelopes are used only for finger print forms and for matter for insertion in the Police Gazette, and not for routine correspondence with this office. NOTE.— Separate envelopes need not be used if correspondence other than the above is being sent by the same post. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. ESSEX. 1.— Grays ( Co.).— For maintenance arrears.— William Henry Blakemore, alias Blackmore, b. 1876, 5ft. 7 or 8in., thick set, c. sallow, h. It., e. It. blue, mole rt. cheek, full round face. Native of Rotherhithe, London. A discharged soldier, and is in receipt of a disablement pension. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Co well, Grays. KENT. 2.— Maidstone ( Boro.).— For stealing ( servant) at a hotel.— Lady's purse bag, 3 pairs gloves, 2 cut glass salt cellars ( recovered) ; lady's diamond ring, claw setting.— Annie Helen Laws, b. 1871, 5ft. 4 or 5in., c. pale, h. grey, good features, well spoken ; dress, dk. blue or black costume, brown felt hat, yellow gloves, brown shoes ( blacked over). Was employed as chambermaid, and may endeavour to seek similar employment. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Maidstone. LANCASHIRE . 3. Bootle ( Boro.).— Case No. 10, 13- 4- 20, cancelled. LINCOLNSHIRE. 5.— Spalding ( Co.).— For stealing ( lodgings), 10th inst..— Lady's black woolen costume skirt.— A Man, who gave the name of Cecil Smart, b. 1886 to 1891, 5ft. 9in. or 10, slim build, c. fresh, h. long on top, clean shaven, no front teeth upper jaw, speaks of being wounded 4 times and shows a leg wound ; dress, dk. brown suit ( patch in coat in centre of back), brown cap, boots.-— A Woman, supposed wife ( Lizzie Smart), b. about 1896, 5ft. 2in., c. fair, h. brown, rather long nose, peculiar look about the eyes ; dress, blue serge dress, blue ribbon band around waist with bow in front, mauve colour straw hat with ribbon of same colour, shoes with patent toe- caps, wearing small tea apron when last seen. Was employed repairing bags at a flour mill. Apparently tramping about looking for work. Warrant issued. Inf. to Supt. Woolnough, Spalding. STAFFORDSHIRE. 6.— Walsall ( Boro.).— For malicious wounding! — Michael Kelly, b. 1898, 5ft. lOjin.. thick set, powerful build, c. pale, h. brown, e. hazel, slight brown moustache, strong Irish accent; dress, double breasted jacket and vest, brown corduroy trousers, grey woollen Army sweater, It. cap M" ith white pin ( set blue stone), black boots. Native of Co. Mayo. Warrant issued. Inf. to the C. C., Walsall. SURREY. 7.— Dorking ( Co.).— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences ( worthless cheque) at Leatherhead, 26th ult Francis Davis, abases Dr. Francis Davis and Francis David Deacon, C. R. O. No. 1842- 00, Case No. 81, 20- 5- 21, b. 1S78, 5ft. 5Jin., c. fresh, h. and e. brown, small dk. moustache, mole rt. side of neck ; dress, It. grey suit, grey velour hat black coat with velvet collar; smart appearance. A medical electrician ; native of London. Pre. con. of fraud, cyclesteahng, larceny and a minor offence at TONBRIDGE ( Francis Davis), LEWES, HOVE, EASTBOURNE. PORTSMOUTH and PETERSFIELD ( Frank David Deacon). On 4th ult., he opened an account at the London, County, Westminster and Parr's Bank, Folkestone Branch, with a deposit of £ 3 10s., and obtained a book of 25 cheques. Called on tradesmen, repre- sented himself to be Dr. Deacon, stated he was staying with a well known local family, and induced them to cash cheques which were subsequently returned marked No Account. LANCASHIRE. 31.— Blackpool ( Boro.).— 5th inst., from the bedroom of a hotel.— Two blank cheques on the London Joint City and Midland Bank, Nos. 198/ H 71195 and 198/ H 71196; pearl ring, 5 whole pearls graduated in claw setting, old- fashioned ; diamond and sapphire ring, large diamond in centre with sapphires and small diamonds in star setting; small ring, with pearls in centre, mauve enamel and diamond around ; diamond Fusilier badge brooch, Ubique in blue enamel underneath ; butterfly brooch of pearls ; bar brooch, pearls in centre, peridots set alter- nately ; string of pink beads ; silver penknife and pencil, Rosa engraved thereon.— Suspicion is attached to T. Simpson, b. 1891, 5ft. 6in., medium build, c. fresh, clean shaven, limps, very plausible ; dress, grey suit. Stated he was in the theatrical profession ; and W. R. Barclay, b. 1895, 5ft. 6in., medium build, c. fresh, clean shaven; dress, brown suit. On 4th inst., these two men, accom- panied by A Woman, b. about 1899, drove up to the hotel in a black landaulette and booked rooms.. The woman left the same day. The men left the following night, without paying their bill, and left behind an old leather hat box, suit- case, old dress suit, and a lounge coat. Appears identical with James Hedley, Reginald Tamant and Winifred Hedley, Case No. 4 ( Manchester), currerit issue. Inf. to the C. C., Blackpool. 32.— Bolton ( Co.).— Between 11th and 13th inst., from a house in course of erection at Westhoughton. — lin. firmer chisel; £ in. bevel edged firmer chisel; lin. cold chisel; smoothing plane ; nail punch, all have the name D. Wilson, Bolton. 33.— Chorley ( Co.).— 8th inst., by housebreaking ( window insecure) at Tarleton.— Lady's heliotrope jacket, lined grey silk, 2 pockets one side and 1 on the other, heliotrope buttons each side, belt at back ; lady's dk. blue tweed jacket, fancy trimmed with belt at back ; gent's blue silk muffler, with yellow diamonds thereon; white metal watch, No. 121861, maker Samuel, Preston, thereon, gold fingers, Roman numerals, silver curb chain with medal raised in centre, attached ; lady's silver watch, gold fingers, Roman numerals, flowers on dial, E. C. scratched on inside of case ; yellow metal brooch, red stone in centre ; rolled gold locket, with photos of 2 boys inside ; razor and case, razor marked Made in Germany, Hamburg, Ring and Try Me on blade.— Suspicion is attached to A Man and A Youth : 1st, b. about 1881, 5ft. 7in. ; wearing dk. blue suit.— 2nd, b. about 1907, 5ft. 4in. ; wearing It. grey suit. One was carrying a parcel under his arm and went in the direction of Southport. Inf. to Supt.
