CONFIDENTIAL, Supplement B. THE POLICE GAZETTE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 1914. No. 36, VOL. I. Convicts on Licence, persons under Police Supervision and others whose apprehensions are sought for failing to comply with the requirements of the Prevention of Crimes Acts, and the Prisoners ( Temporary Discharge for 111 Health) Act, 1913. Those bearing names marked thus * are Licence Holders, and should produce their licences. The first condition of a licence is that the holder shall preserve it and produce it when called upon by a Magistrate or Police Officer; but it should be distinctly understood that a Licence Holder is not required to carry his licence upon him. Before preferring a charge of failing to produce a licence, it should be ascertained what the defaulter has to say, vide Sec. 5, Sub- sec. 1, 27 & 28 Vict., cap. 47, which requires a Licence Holder to produce his licence or shoiv some reasonable excuse why he does not produce the same. N. B.— When a circulation is cancelled, the printed matter relating to the person in question might be ruled through in red ink, without defacing the portrait. Sentenced at Glasgow High Ct., 22.2.1910, to 5 yrs.' pen. ( and remanet of former sentence) for housebreaking. Liberated on licence, 29.4.1914, to Edinburgh, which expires 27.11.1915. Failed to notify his change of address from Inverkeithing, 20.8.1914, and nothing has since been seen of him. Has pre. cons, of housebreaking, larceny, etc. Known to police at DUNDEE, PERTH, EDINBURGH, GLASGOW and HADDING- TON. Arrest is also sought, on warrant, at Inver- keithing for coining. Information to the Secretary, Prison Commis- sion for Scotland, Edinburgh. 301. Leeds ( City). * YOUNG, JOHN, alias James Black, C. R. O. No. 679- 08 ( Case No. 11, POLICE GAZETTE, 28th ult.), age 40, ht. 5ft. llin., c. fresh, h. black, e. brown, scar back each 1st linger, blue scar back 2nd 1. finger. A clerk; native of Armagh. Sentenced at Liverpool Sess., 1.4.1912, to 3 yrs.' pen. for larceny. Liberated on licence, 2.7.1914, to Leeds. Failed to notify his change of address, 18.8.1914, A clever thief who enters jewellers' shops, asks to be shown jewellery from the window and pur- loins gold alberta, substituting worthless imita- tions. Known to police at MANCHESTER, LIVER- POOL, GATESHEAD, LISCARD, BIRKEN- HEAD, LEEDS, NEWCASTLE and MIDDLES- BROUGH. May be dealt with where found. 302. Brighton . Borough). * SMITH, GEORGE, aliases, George Cutress, Langley, Parker, Price, King, Long, Short, Somers, Leigh and Lee, C. R. O. No. 3517- 99, age 51, ht. 5ft. lin., c. fresh, h. grey ( nearly bald), e. blue. A waiter; native of London. Sentenced at C. C. C., 10.10.1911, to 3 yrs.' pen. ( and remanet of former sentence) for wounding. Liberated on licence, 12.3.1914, into Met. Pol. Dist., which expires 15.12.1914. Officer proving identity, P. C. Motture, 1057, W. Failed to notify his change of address, 24.7.1914. Known to police at BRIGHTON, EAST- BOURNE, SOUTHAMPTON, SWINDON, OX FORD, PORTSMOUTH, CHORLEY, EPPING and on F, G, S and W DIVNS., MET. POL, For portrait, etc., see Case No. 78, Supplement A, 27th March last. May be dealt with where found. APPREHENSION SOUCHT. 303. JAMES McNEIL, C. R. O. No. 7771- 14, Case No. 168, not now wanted. APPREHENSION. 304. HENRY ARTHUR HARVEY, C. R. O. No. 2706- 02, Case No. 189, at DONCASTER on a charge of fraud. Memorandum. WALTER WALKER, C. R. O. No. 1531- 13, Case No. 133, 17th April last.
