CONFIDENTIAL, Supplement B. : THE POLICE GAZETTE FRIDAY, APRIL 3RD, 1914. No. 14, VOL. I. Convicts on Licence, persons under Police Supervision and others whose apprehensions are sought for failing to comply with the requirements of the Prevention of Grimes Acts, and the Prisoners ( Temporary Discharge for 111 Heath) Act, 1913. Those bearing names marked thus * are Licence Holders, and should produce their licences. The first condition of a licence is that the holder shall preserve it and produce it when called upon by a Magistrate or Police Officer; but it should be distinctly understood that a Licence Holder is not required to carry his licence upon him. Before preferring a charge of failing to produce ia licence, it should be ascertained what the defaulter has to say, vide Sec. 5, Sub- sec. 1, 27 & 28 Vict., cap. 47. which requires a Licence Holder to produce his licence or show some reasonable excuse why he does nut produce tie same. N. B.— When a circulation is cancelled, the printed matter relating to the person in question might be ruled through in red ink, without defacing the portraits. No. 1893- 04, age 39, ht. 5ft. 9Jin., c. fresh, h. dk. brown, e. blue, scar rt. of eye, on rt. jaw and under rt. ear, wart over 1. eye, 1. thumb nail deformed. A baker; native of Ramsbottom. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 14.2.1905, to 8 yrs.' pen. ( and remanet of former sentence) for burglary. Liberated on 2nd licence, 11.3.1914, to Blackburn, which expires 12.9.1914. Left his registered address without notifying the fact. A dangerous burglar and housebreaker who usually forces kitchen windows with a jemmy and steals miscellaneous articles; generally partakes of food at premises broken into. Known to police at Lancaster, Accrington, Preston and Salford. Warrant issued by Blackburn. May be dealt with where found. 113. Liverpool ( City). * WHITE, JOHN, aliases, GEORGE LAIRD, ALLAN and ADAMS, C. R. O. No. 171- 14, age 34, ht. 5 ft. 2f in., c. fresh, h. It. brown, e. blue, 2 scars 1. cheek. A machinist; native of Belfast. Sentenced at Edinburgh High Ct., 17.7.1908, to 5 yrs.' pen. for larceny. Liberated on second licence, 6.2.1914, to Cardiff, which expires 18.5.1914. Failed to notify his change of residence. Known to police at Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Carlisle. May be dealt with where found. 114. Taunton ( County). * SHOEBROOK, HENRY, aliases, HARRY and HARRY JOHN SHOEBROOK, C. R. O. No. 1334- 05, age 42, ht. 5ft. 3in., c. fresh, h. and moustache dk. brown, e. brown, indentation rt. temple, fleshy lump rt. cheek, star rt., 2 dots 1. forearm; dress, brown coat, cord trousers and waistcoat, brown cap, white muffler, good nailed boots. A labourer ; native of Culmstock, Devon. Sentenced at Taunton Sess., 29.6.1910, to 3 yrs.' pen. for burglary. Liberated on 2nd licence, 20.3.1914, to Taunton, which expires 27.5.1914. Absconded without notifying his removal. A travelling thief and housebreaker. Known to police at Highbridge and Wellington. Arrest is also sought at Dunster for larceny. Information to the Deputv Chief Constable, Taunton. 115. Criminal Record Office. WOOD, JAMES, alim JOHN STEMP, C. R. O. No. 637- 02, age 59, ht. 5ft. 3£ in., c. fresh, h. grey ( thin on top), e. grey, fleshy mole inner angle 1. eye. A labourer; native of Godstone. Sentenced at Maidstone Sess., 9.4.1908, to 5 yrs.' pen. and 2 yrs.' supn. for countinghousebreak- ing. Liberated on licence, 8.12.1911, into Met. Pol. Dist. Officer proving identity, Divl.- Det.- Insp. Haigh, J. Officer proving service of notice, Warder Wal- ton, Wandsworth Prison. Failed to report on release from Wandsworth Prison, 23.3.1914, after undergoing 6 weeks' impt. for failing to r. eport. Effects entry to builders' offices and steals work- men's tools; poses as employe of well- known local farmer and obtains money on the pretence that he has been sent to redeem impounded cattle but has not been provided with sufficient cash for the purpose. Known on D, P and II l) ivns., Met. Pol. Information to above Office. 116. Criminal Record Office. * PEARSON, DORIS, aliases, IDA WILLETS, ADA KNIGHT, IDA ANNIE SMITH, IDA WOODWARD, FOSTER, and KNIGHT, C. R. O. No. 1281- 08, age 40, ht. 5ft. 4in., c. sallow, h. brown, e. grey, wart over rt. eye, prominent teeth, wears spectacles. Sentenced at Warwick Assizes, 11.3.1912, to 3 yrs.' pen. for obtaining food by false pretences. Liberated on licence, 11.3.1914, into Met. Pol. Dist. Officer proving service of notice, Stn. P. S. Har- rington, 37 D. Reported her removal, 14th inst., but did not proceed to the address given, neither has she since reported. Represents she is in service at some well- known establishment, has lost her purse and luggage and requests money to return; or, that she has in- herited some money and requires cash to pay solicitors' fees. Known to police at Malvern, Lutterworth, Staf- ford, and on B and T Divns., Met. Pol. Arrest is also sought, on warrant, for obtaining money by false pretences, on M Divn., Met. Pol.. vide POLICE GAZETTE, Case No. 86, 27th ult. Information to above Office. 117. Liverpool ( City). * RUSHTON, FREDERICK, C. R. O. No. 1470- 13, age 30, ht. 5 ft. Hi in., c. fresh, h. It. brown ( turning grey), e. grey, prominent nose, F. R. rt. forearm, cut scar 1st 1. finger. A plumber; native of Ditton, Lanes. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 25.4.1910, to 5 yrs.' pen. for shopbreaking and larceny. Lib- erated on licence, 21.11.1913, to Liverpool. Failed to notify his change of residence. May be dealt with where found. 118. Criminal Record Office. R. O. No. 3507- 99, age 73, ht. 5ft, 7Jin., c. fresh, h. grey ( bald on top, usually dyed It. auburn), e. blue, nose crooked, scar on fore head. Sentenced at Derby Sess., 6.1.1909, to 7 yrs.' pen. for larceny. Liberated on licence, 20.2.1914, to Stockport, " which expires 28.1.1916 ( 23 days' appellant). Officer proving service of notice, Insp. Sherving- ton, W. Failed to report at Croydon Pol. Sta., If'. Divn., Met. Pol., 20.3.1914. Left his registered address, 20.3.1914, and was heard to express his intention of going to Brighton, previously, however, when enquiring the price of a brown wig, as he intended dyeing his moustache and eyebrows that colour, lie gave his destination as Sheffield. A notorious hydro, and hotel thief. Known to police at Liverpool, Birmingham, Urndey, Sheffield, Wrerham. Lisrard, Dublin, Belfast, Knareshoro', Newcastle and Blackpool. No. 5579- 14, age 30, ht. 5ft. 6in., c. pale, h. brown, e. blue. 121. For failing to return to Holloway Prison, 26.3.1914.— ETHEL COX ( or GWENDOLINE COOK), C. R. O.
