CONFIDENTIAL Supplement B. THE POLICE GAZETTE FRIDAY, JANUARY 30TH, 1914. No. 5, YOL. I. Convicts on Licence, persons under Police Supervision and others whose apprehensions are sought for failing to comply with the requirements of the Prevention of Grimes Acts, and the Prisoners ( Temporary Discharge for 111 Heath) Act, 1913. Those bearing names marked thus * are Licence Holders, and should produce their licences. The first condition of a licence is that the holder shall preserve it and produce it when called upon by a Magistrate or Police Officer; but it should be distinctly understood that a Licence Holder is not required to entry his licence upon him. Before preferring a charge of failing to produce a licence, it should be ascertained what the defaulter has to say, vide Sec. 5, Sub- sec. 1, 27 & 28 Vict., cap. 47, which requires a Licence Holder to produce his licence or show some reasonable excuse why he does not produce the same. N. B.— When a circulation is cancelled, the printed matter relating to the person in question might be ruled through in red ink, without defacing the portraits. Licence Holders and Supervisees. 2 73. Sentenced at Surrey Sess., 4.4.1911, to 3 yrs.' pen. for housebreaking. Liberated on licenoe 22.9.1913, into Met. Pol. Dist. Officer proving identity, Divl. Det.- Insp. San- ders, F. Officer proving service of notice, Det.- Insp. McDonald, C. R. O. He last reported to C. R. O., 22.1.1914, by letter, but at that time had left his registered address some six weeks, and nothing is known of his where- abouts.; A'clever burglar who effects an entry to good- class residences by forcing windows; also steals bicycles which he disposes of to dealers, producing forged receipts. Known to police at Winchester and on V Divn., Met. Pol. Information to above Office. Arrest is also sought by Winchester police for burglary, vide POLICE GAZETTE, 27th inst., Case No. 1. j . Persons Licensed from 75. Criminal Record Office. For failing to comply with the conditions of his licence, which has been revoked.— GEORGE 74. Middlesbrough ( Borough). * DEVANEY, MARTIN, aliases, WILLIAM HACKETT, WILLIAM HIGSON, WILLIAM SMITH, LLEWELLYN JONES and WILLIAM LYNES, C. R. O. No. 2042- 09, age 52, ht. 5 ft. 6 in., c. fresh, h. It. brown ( turning grey), e. blue, clean shaven, bracelet and dot rt. wrist, rose back rt., bracelet and 21 dots back 1. hand, 4 dots web 1. thumb. A seaman; native of Kinsale. Sentenced at Northallerton Sess., 19.10.1911, to 3 yrs.' pen. for larceny. Liberated on licence, 16.1.1914, to Middlesbrough. Left Middlesbrough 21st inst., without notify- ing his change of residence; is believed to have gone to sea. A travelling thief who steals bicycles and any- thing of value to hand. Known to police at York, Alfreton, Southamp- ton, Leicester, Long Eaton, Nuneaton, Lichfield, Market Drayton, Derby, Coalville, Swindon, Salis- bury and Malton. May be dealt with where found. a Borstal Institution. in a Borstal Institution, for burglary. Released on licence, 1.12.1913, to the care of the Borstal Association. M. B. rt., I. L. R. P. ( twice) 1. forearm. Sentenced at C. L. S„ 26.9.1911, to 2 yrs.' detn. in a Borstal Institution, for larceny— servant. Released on licenoe, 14.8.1913, to the care of the Borstal Association. If arrested a telegram or telephonic communica- tion should be forwarded to the Governor, Penton- ville Prison, who will send an escort for him. Not to be arrested after 25.3.1914.
