All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOR OF THB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences iciil be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6i. per photograph or sketch unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 63. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant ij in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all casi s the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be re- ceivefl not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted!) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICI GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should b* prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post teiihin the United Kingdom. ESSEX. 15— Brentwood ( County).— For stealing, 3rd inst., at Yange, a pony ( recovered).— A MAN, age 20 to 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., hair, heavy eyebrows and slight moustache dark, full face, rather high cheek bones; appearance of a g'psy; dress, dark jacket and vest, raised seams in former, cord trousers ( large cord), dark cap, rather large red and black mixture neckerchief, lace boots. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( oontinued ) .- 16.— Chelmsford ( County).— For obtaining £ 5 3s. by false pretences ( Stramonium cigarette fraud), 18th ult.— B. DUKAN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown, Roman nose; wearing dark Melton overcoat, black bowler hat. Believed a foreigner. A cigarette manufacturer. He uses a j green motor car, calls upon persons who have re- cently taken public houses, states that lie repre- j sents cycling clubs and will make their houses the , headquarters, then induces them to purchase a quantity of cigarettes. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 17.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences at Chadwell St. Mary, 29tli ult.— ' A. F. ADAMS, age about 32, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion pale, moustache dark; wearing dark jacket and cap, blue guernsey. He produced a document purporting to be from a company of steamship owners, showing that he had wages due to the amount of £ 78 14s. 7d., obtained the above sum, stating he would return same with interest. Is believed to be wanted at Colchester for a similar fraud. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Grays. HAMPSHIRE. 18 — Aldershot ( Cowntv).— FREDERICK COLLINS, alias FREDK. GEORGE CROSS- MAN, Case No. 20, 5th inst., is identical with FREDERICK COLLINS, Office No. 253- 12. The method adopted in this case was to represent that he was an officer's servant attached to the 11th Hussars ( his late regiment), and that the president of the officers' mess had sent him to the firm de- frauded for 2 suits of clothes. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Aldershot. 19.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing ( servant) 10s.— HAROLD JOHN JONES, age 16, height 5 ft., slight build; dress, blue serge suit, dark cap. A page boy. May endeavour to enlist. 20.-— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing from his lodgings, £ 3 7s. 6d., 5th inst.— SAMUEL YORK, age 23, height 5 ft. 4| ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, slight moustache light, scar on back of neck, tattooed cross left fore- arm, bracelet right forearm. Is a private in the 1st Lincolnshire Regiment and may be wearing the uniform. Is on furlough until the 14th inst. Warrant issued. 21.— Ports mouth'( Borough).— For obtaining goods by false pretences.— WILLIAM EWART WELLINGTON, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., complexion and hair dark, clean shaven, of slightly Jewish appearance; dress, blue suit, bowler or soft hat. He stayed at a high- class hotel and left without paving his bill. He left behind a card bearing his name with Magdalen College, Oxford, in one corner and Woodland Hall, Chester, in the other. It has been ascer- tained that he has been an inmate of an asylum. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HER TFORDSHIRE. • 22.— Hitchin ( County).— For embezzling £ 1 17s. 6d., 9th inst.— WILLIAM CHRISTIAN, alias CHRISTY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion pale, hair dark, turning grey, false teeth ; wearing blue coat and vest, grey trousers, dark stripe. A harness maker. Has worked at his trade at Blackheath, Deptford and Brighton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Reed, Hitchin. KENT. 23.— Tonhridge County).— For obtaining £ 15 10s. bv a worthless cheque.— THOMAS TAY- LOR, alias MARTIN, MORGAN and NORRIS, Office No. 676- 11, age 35, height 5 ft. 9£ ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, crossed guns, wreath and crossed swords right, gun on wheels and clasped hands left forearm. A low- class horse dealer; native of Tunbridge Wells. Has the appearance of a respectable farmer and attends markets, fairs, etc. Is in possession of cheque- book on United Counties Bank, Newport ( Mon.). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. NORFOLK. 24.— Harleston ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 Is. by false pretences at Brockdish, October last.— CHARLES BRINKLEY, alias HENRY PER- KINS and FOSTER, age 28, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, short nose; dress, dark suit and cap with long peak, button boots. A van dweller; supposed a native of Ipswich. May be travelling with a van, " Jesse Sellers " painted on off side, or in company of low horse dealers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bentham, Harleston. STAFFORDSHIRE. 25.— Stoke - on - Trent ( Borouyh).— For stealing ( by trick) 3 rings.— A WOMAN, age 23 to 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion pale, sharp features, hair dark brown, of smart appear- ance ; dress, dark navy blue or black costume, black fur hat and neck fur, fawn- colour blanket cloth coat, carried a muff. Stated she belonged to a local choir and the rings were required for a present to one of the members who was leaving. Information to the Chief Constable, Hanley, Stoke- on- Trent. SURREY. 26.— Oxted ( County\— For stealing a quantitv of old iron at Lingfield, 4th ult.— WILLIAM DEVALL, alias CHAPMAN, JONES and PINCHER, age 30, height 5 ft. 6£ ins., hair and moustache light brown, scar right shoulder, tattoo mark left forearm, occasionally works on farms and sleeps in out buildings. Accompanied by his wife and 4 children, ages 9, 5, 3 years and 6 months respectively. Concerned with William Reeves who is committed for trial at Surrey Ses- sions, 6th January next. Warrant issued. West, Oxted. 27.— Guildford ( Borough).— For obtaining a diamond and sapphire dress ring, 1 single- stone scarf pin, and 1 silver cigarette case by false pre tences, 18th ult.— J. W. BENNETT, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., thick build, clean shaven, full square face, complexion pale, military appear- ance; wears a drab- coloured pilot cloth overcoat and fawn felt hat, etc. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildford. 28.— Reigate ( Borough).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered), 5th inst., a man who gave the name of HERBERT WOOD, age 22 to 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., clean shaven ; wearing blue serge suit and black bowler hat. Supposed identical with man, Case No. 31, 5th inst. Information to the Chief Constable, Reigate. WARWICKSHIRE. 29.— Warwick ( County).— For embezzling £ 1 5s.— ANDREWS, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion very florid, hair ( turning grey) dark, part of top of one ear missing; dress, dark jacket, fancy vest with bright buttons, whit^ riding breeches, greenish cap, black leggings. A groom. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ravenhall, Warwick. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). so.— Sheffield( C%).- EDWARD GEORGE STANHOPE, Case No. 37. of 5th inst., is identi- cal with EDWIN GEORGE POCHIN, Office No. 157/ 11. The method adopted in committing the offence was to represent himself as a chauffeur em- ployed at a local garage. He stated that he had attended a motor school in London and was visit- ing Sheffield in order to accustom himself to driv- ing a motor car in town, engaged lodgings and at the first opportunity stole any portable property of value that he could find and decamped. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 31.— Criminal Record Office.— Remanded at Bow Street Police Court, charged with the contravention of an Expulsion Order.— FREDERICK FAULDRUFF, Office No. A. 173 ( for photograph, description, etc., see Case No. 39, 31st October, 1913). This man is believed to have been committing a series of frauds in the provinces similar to that described in the case referred to above. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 32.— O Division.- 1st inst., ( by trick) a diamond pendant, set in platinum, 2 lar^ e diamond drops suspended from top, fan shape. 33.— F IDivision.— 2nd inst., from a dwelling house ( by climbing stackpipe and entering by lava- tory window), 3 pendants ( 1 diamond wreath with large pearl in centre, platinum chain attached; 1 set sapphires, pearl and diamonds; 1 gold, set coloured stones); 5 necklaces ( 1 composed of 3 strings of pearls, connected with 3 platinum loops, set diamonds; 1 gold ribbon, set pearls; 1 black velvet ribbon, in 2 parts, set pearls; 1 composed of clusters of garnets set in gold, gold link con- nections, 3 or 4 garnet drops; 1 blue enamel bars, set pearls) ; 8 brooches ( 1 gold bar, set 3 sapphires and pearls; 1 do., pink diamond in centre, 1 white and 1 yellow diamond each, diamond drop; 1 gold eagle's wing, 5 points with pearl- each end above; 1 gold bar, platinum faced, diamond surrounded by rubies in centre, diamonds on bar; 1 pink enamel rose, pearl in centre, diamonds around; 1 green enamel heart; 1 blue enamel heart, pearls on front, diamond bow at top; 1 gold horse- shoe, set rubies, diamond and turquoise, painted minia- ture of girl in centre, mother- o'- pearl back); 3 lockets ( 1 round gold, diamond on front, photo- graph of dark boy inside; 1 gold heart, set 3 pearls; 1 large oval gold, E. P. on front); 7 rings ( 1 gold crossover, set sapphire and pearls; 1 set 1 yellow and 1 brown diamond, each encircled with small diamonds; 1 gold, set 3 large dia- monds ; 1 dress, set brown diamond; 1 set pale green and yellow diamonds in shape of a pear; 1 gold cross, ruby in centre, pearl each point; 1 set ruby and diamonds; 4 bracelets ( 1 stiff gold, set sapphires; 1 composed of 3 gold links and tur- quoise alternately; 1 gold links, ruby in each link with pearl between; 1 gold expanding, set lady's open- face keyless watch); 1 watch, lady's gold keyless, in dark leather wristlet; 1 purse, green, gold chain, E. P. thereon; 3 gold chains, 1 thin with coral, skull attached ; 1 with gold heart locket attached; 1 fine lipk; 1 buckle, gold Japan- ese; sleeve- links, 1 pair green gold, set diamond each side. OA MBRIDGESHIRE. 34.-- Cambridge ( Borough).— 20th ult., by burglary, a silver hot^ water jug, plain, on stand with 3 feet, 1 do., spirit lamp to match; 1 do. cream jug, plain; 1 do. christen- ing mug, engraved Olga; 6 do. afternoon tea spoons, with tongs to match; 6 do. tea spoons, initial " G " thereon ; 1 do. spoon, knife and fork, mother- o'- pearl handles, marked Olga; 1 do. Vic- toria spoon, do.; 1 do. serviette ring, initials R. B. S.; 1 damask table cloth, laundry mark in red, H. 103; 1 nearly new light'brown dispatch bag containing papers; 1 small leather purse contain- ing a sovereign, 2 half- sovereigns and some silver; 1 black silk muffler with grey pattern; 1 old- fash- ioned gold pin, set ruby; 1 cardboard box, about 14 x 10 ins. THE POLICE GAZETTE. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. BERKSHIRE. 85.— Windsor ( Borough).— For larceny.— PHILIPPA RUSSELL, Office No. 503- 00 ( for description, etc., see Case No. 38, 6th December, 1912, and Illustrated Circular 84, Fig. 32). The method adopted in this case was to take lodgings at a restaurant and send out circulars to ladies in blouses, etc., from various firms by false pretences. She informed her employer that her late husband was a surgeon- major attached to the St. George's Rifles, and that he died in an asylum; she also spoke of visits to Faris and mentioned that she spoke French and had French experience of dress- the district announcing that she was opening a first- class dressmaker's business, and solicit work at ladies' residences; she obtained employment, and durin gthe temporary absence of her employers stole jewellery, etc. After absconding it was ascer- tained that she had obtained costumes, skirts, making. After committing an offence it has been her practice to remain quiet for a few months and it is thought that she may be again about to com- mence operations. Warrant issued. GL DUCES TERSHIRE. 36.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 11th ult., 2 lady's gold keyless watches, case of one cracked; 2 lady's gold guards, 1 short thick links, 1 fine links; 1 lady's filigree brooch, hair inside; 3 lady's gold rings, 1 set diamond, 1 set pearls ( 1 pearl missing), 1 gold mourning ( 1 initial letter); 1 gold locket, fluted; 1 lady's gold bangle, tassel attached; 2 gold brooches, 1 set age 34, height 5 ft. 6i ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue; 3 moles right and 2 left cheek; dress, navy blue suit, light grey overcoat, grey suede gloves, bowler hat, boots; of re- spectable appearance and is well educated; carried a hand camera and stated that he was a photo- grapher. Has been convicted at Hastings, South- end, Reigate, Stratford, Dover and Essex. amethyst and pearls, 1 made of mother- o'- pearl cuff- links; 1 pair gold crescent- shaped earrings and a fawn- coloured rainproof overcoat, " Bun- ard, Stapleton Road," on shoulder piece.— REGINALD EBSWORTH, Office No. 1774- 11, Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom.
