All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions ri lating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable, the article in questim to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment mv. it be. given., and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be. higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Bvcry announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant it in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, nf the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be RE- ceived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by • covering letter. 12. All payments must be in culvance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT i.— N Division.— For obtaining £ 25 by false pretences, 9th May last.— ALEXANDER DAMIANO, age 48, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion swarthy, hair ( curly) black, eye6 brown, right thumb disjointed, holds pen or pencil be- tween 1st and 2nd fingers; dress, brown jacket suit, black hard felt hat, wears pin with dark amber oval- shape stone surrounded with seed peaxls. A native of Smyrna, Greece. He sold worthless certificates which he represented to be valuable Russian oil shares. Warrant issued. 2 - T Division•— For stealing a cheque for £ 2 8s. Id., on the London County & West- minster Bank, Cliiswick Branch; and £ 49 4s. lid., 24th ult.— EDWIN LENT, age 36, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, very bad teeth, 1 front upper tooth prominent, splay feet; dress, brown suit with black stripes, green tie, brown cap, lace boots. A native of Leicester. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. CITY OF LONDON. 3.— For embezzling and stealing £ 5.— ALLAN DARE, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 ins., com- plexion fair, hair light, eyes grey, recent cuts tip of 3rd finger and palm of right hand; dress, dark jacket and trousers, brown cord cap, shoes with elastic sides. A kitchen porter; supposed a native of Bristol. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 4.— For forging and uttering a cheque for £ 476 14s. 3d.— GUSTAV SEELEY, alias BERLINER, age 23, height 5 ft. 7 ins., slight build, complexion fair, hair and moustache brown, eyes blue, slight impediment in speech when excited, of smart ap- pearance; dress, blue serge suit, dark Chesterfield overcoat, black bowler hat. A clerk. Has in his possession 70 100 German mark notes; 9 £ 10 Bank of England notes, Nos. 98292 to 98300, dated 17th June, 1911, a* nd 7£ 5 do., Nos. 59921 to 59927, dated 6th July, 1912. A BERDEENSHIRE. 6.— Aberdeen ( City).— For obtaining board, lodgings and money by fraud, between 20th and 2 § th ult.— FRED WATTS, age about 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, round face, hair light brown, clean shaven, protruding eye tooth on left side, cut scar on one forefinger: dress, grey jacket suit, greenish cap, greyish tie, brown boots, a silver or electro- plated flower holder in the lapel of jacket. Said to be a native of Sussex. On the 20th ult., he called at a motor garage, stated he was a chauffeur, asked whether he oould store a motor car there for a month, as his employer was coming to Aberdeen to stay; then obtained lodgings on the pretence that he was in the employment of Harmsworth, Publisher, London. Has in his possession a motor car driver's licence, issued at Aberdeen on 14tli October, 1912, in name of James Henderson, 579, Great Northern Road, Woodside, Aberdeen. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Aberdeen. BERKSHIRE. 6.— R e a di n g ( Borough).— For obtaining varnish, etc., by false pretences, 5th ult.— H. T. ROBERTSON, age 36 to 38, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, round face, slight mous- tache brown, well educated. A colour merchant's traveller. Has in his possession a letter signed by the secretary to Colonel Hall Walker, M. P., showing that he has done electioneering work for Colonel Walker in Liverpool; also stated that he was an organist in Liverpool, and has been em- ployed by firms at Liverpool and Wolverhampton. May be found at temperance hotels and Y. M. C. A. institutions. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. 7.— Windsor ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 5 by a worthless cheque on Parr's Bank, Ltd., Streatham Branch, 26th August last.— C. CUR- TIS, alias GEORGE DIXON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 11 ins., slight build, complexion pale, hair brown, clean shaven; dress, grey suit, straw hat, brown American boots, carried a light brown stick with crook handle. See Case No. 7, 27th September, 1912. Was accompanied by a woman ( not wanted), age 32, height 5 ft. 6 ins., hair ( curly) light brown, of smart appearance. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor. BUCKING HA MS HIRE. S-— High Wycombe ( County).— For ob- taining £ 2 15s. by false pretences.-— RALPH MARTIN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion very pale, hair ( bushy in front) brown, clean shaven; dress, grey knicker suit and cap, dark mauve tie. He calls upon shopkeepers, states he has a large quantity of potatoes for sale, obtains orders and cash on account and decamps. See Case No. 5, 1st August last. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. CA RNA R VONSHIRE. 9.— Conway ( County).— For stealing a pair of carpet slippers and £ 4 lis. 3d.— CHRISTINA RENSHAW, age 37, height 4 ft. 10 ins. to 5 ft., very stout, complexion fair, full face, hair dark brown, mole one side of face, Scotch accent, ad- dicted to drink; dress, blue and white striped cotton blouse, black skirt, very light dust coat, blue- black straw hat, beehive shape, trimmed blue or black ribbon, carried a small dark tin box and a brown paper parcel. A domestic servant. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Conway. CHESHIRE. 10— Northwich ( County).— J. EDWARD MALPAS, described in Case No. 18, 3rd inst., has been identified as JOHN MALPASS, Office No. 444- 08, age 27, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, 2 small moles right forearm, scar left forearm, both little fingers de- formed. A labourer; native of Warmingham. He is also wanted at Crewe, for larceny. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ennion, Northwich. CUMBERLAND. 11.— Brampton ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 Is. 8d. by false pretences at Cumwhitton, 25th ult. ( concerned with another person in custody). — JOSEPH MONKHOUSE, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion dark, round face, hair black, clean shaven; dress, blue serge suit, hard felt hat, wide brim. A miner's labourer; native of Egremont. Has been employed as an insurance agent. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Whiteside, Brampton. DURHAM. 12.— Gateshead < Borough).— For stealing a lady's Raglan rainproof coat, 1 underskirt. 1 blouse, 1 brush and comb, and a purse containing 35s., 26th ult.— MARY MATHIESON, age 25 or FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1913. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued ).— 26 ( looks older), height about 5 ft. 7 ins., flight build, complexion and hair dark, supposed cut scar on right jaw; dress, navy blue serge semi- hobble skirt, dark check blouse, large black / straw hat turned up at one side, scarlet velvet band, thick black veil, lace shoes with patent leather toe- saps, spreads her feet when walking, Scotch accent. On 24th ult., she called at a house, stated she had just left a situation in London and was going to Edin- burgh, was allowed to stay, and on 26th ult., left with the stolen articles. About 4 years ago she was an inmate of a Church Army Home, Edin- burgh. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Gateshead. 13.—. ESSEX. ii.— Clacton - on - Sea ( County).— For failing to surrender to his bail at adjourned Quarter Sessions at Chelmsford, 10th ult., charged with stealing a pig.— WILLIAM BARNES, age 46, height 5 ft. 5 ins., stout build, complexiou fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark, eyes hazel; dress, dark coat, tweed breeches, leather leggings. A groom, drover or dealer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mules, Clacton- on- Sea. 15.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining by a worthless cheque on the London City & Midland Bank, Golder's Green Branch, payable to Henry Cookers, signed A. E. Luck, Paymaster, R. N. Barracks, Chatham, on 26th ult., an 18- ct. 3- stone ring, gipsy setting, diamond and rubies, CAS/ O or CAC/- marked inside; and 30s.— HENRY COOKUS, age 25 to 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown; dress, brown jacket suit, fawn- colour rainproof coat, bowler hat, lace boots, carried a hook walking stick. J. Mills & Son, in favour of S. P. Oliver.— S. P. OLIVER ( believed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion dark, hair and moustache brown; dress, grey suit. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 19.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing 13s., 19th vlt.— HOCENE AREZKI BEN AHMED, an Al- gerian, age 27 or 28, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., slight build, complexion, hair and slight moustache dark, wart believed on right little finger, speaks good Inglish, addicted to drink; wearing dark clothes, brown cap. Hawks fancy table covers and shawls, and is known by the name of Charlie. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 20.— Bristol ( City).— For failing to join his ship after negotiating his advance note, 6th ult. — NORMAN PRIOR, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion dark, hair ( curly) black, Moustache brown, no teeth; dress, blue suit and • ap, black sateen shirt and collar. An electrician ; native of Edinburgh. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Alton ( County).— For stealing, 30th ult., at Binsted, a black enamelled bicycle, 24- in. frame, 28- in. wheels, plated rims, rather rusty, flat handle fears, rubber pedals, dusi> caps cut oil, rim brakes, 2 lamp brackets ( 1 on front fork), mudguards.— A MAN, age 32 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., eomplexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, eyes blue, of smart appearance; dress, dark jacket and vest, pepper and salt colour breeches, laced at knees, greenish cap, blue tie, patent leather gaiters, lace boots. Formerly served in the Royal Berk- shire Regiment. Information to Supt. Reuben, Alton. 22• Gosport ( County).- Fot obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, 15th ult.— JOSEPH GARTLEY, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., hair very light, eyes blue; dress, blue serge suit, straw hat, brown boots. Was employed as a scale maker's canvasser and salesman. Is suspected of stealing from his lodgings a lady's 18- ct. gold dress ring, set 5 pearls, gipsy setting. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Abel, Gosport. 23.—- Southampton tBorough).- For embez- zlement.— ARTHUR H. AMOS, age 22 or 23, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fair, hair ( rather long) brown; dress, morning coat and vest, braided edge, dark grey trousers with black stripes. A commercial traveller; native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 24 — Hereford ( County).— For rape at Eaton Bishop, 28th ult.— HARRY GRIFFITHS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, North Country aocent, voice breaks at times; dress, old brown jacket and vest, trou- sers of lighter material, heavy boots. Performs tricks, plays a mouth organ and sings in public houses. Tramps the country and states he has been travelling with a boxing booth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Thomas, Hereford. HER TFORDSHIRE. 25 — St. Albans ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 17th ult., a small metal clock ( re- covered) ; 1 dark brown jacket suit with faint stripes. FORSDICK, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache light, squints; dress, light grey suit, white silk tie, straw hat, brown mackintosh and boots. Stated he was employed by a firm of blind fitters at Putney. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Albans. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 26.— St an ground ( County).— For house- breaking 2nd inst., and stealing a gold watch chain, cable pattern, fancy gold watch key and seal attached.—- A MAN, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., good build, small moustache dark, of smart appearance and good address; dress, light grev suit, grey cap. Carried a pencil and note- book and called at several houses. Informaton to Supt. Wilson, Stanground. KENT. 27.— Sevenoaks ( County).— For stealing, 21st ult., a motor cycle ( recovered at Uckfield).— STANLEY ROSS JENNER, alias STANLEY TOMAS and HARRY LINDRIDGE, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion pale, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes hazel, left leg shorter than right; dress, drab- colour overalls, light Nor- folk jacket, light trousers and cap, high heel on left boot. A grocer; native of Plaxtol, Kent. Previously convicted at Eastbourne, Brighton, Ramsgate, Woking, Chelmsford, and West Kent Quarter Sessions, of false pretences and cycle stealing. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Fowle, Sevenoaks. 28 — Sittingbourne ( County).— For steal- ing from his lodgings an English lever watch and chain; 1 blue serge suit and cap; 1 pair Derby boots, size 6; 1 shirt and £ 1.— THOMAS JAMES BROWN, alias SMITH, age 21, height about 5 ft., complexion pale, hair black, several pimples on face, deformed back; wearing the stolen clothing. A native of Southampton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Crowhurst, Sittingbourne. 29.— West Malting ( County).— For steal- ing, 21st ult., at Yalding, a Component bicycle, 24- in. frame, black enamelled, lined 2 colours, No. 53220 on bracket or head, Palmer back tyre, Buc- caneer front wire- edged tyre, Phillips rubber pedals, Crabbe brakes, upturned handle bars, Brooks saddle, B. S. A. free wheel, Roman spokes back wheel, Component hub.— HARRY JEF- FERY, age 19, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair ginger, eyes blue; wearing old dark clothing. A native of Tonbridge. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ford, West Mailing. 30.— Folkestone ( Borough).- For obtaining a tweed suit and 2s. by worthless cheque, 15th ult., — OTTO WERNER, age 18 to 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., clean shaven ; wearing new light tweed suit and cap. A foreigner. The cheque, No. D 5/ 79214, is from a book on the Union of London and Smith's Bank, Regent Street Branch, which was lost at Bognor 3rd ult. Was employed as a kitchen porter at a boarding house at Bognor. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Folkestone. 31.- Maidstone ( Borough).- For nonpayment of £ 9 6s. maintenance arrears and costs.— WIL- LIAM ELLIS, age 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaven, defec- tive teeth. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. 82.— Margate ( Borough).- For stealing £ 1 7s., 4th ult.— ALBERT SHORTING, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, hair brown, slight moustache, large no6e, wart on side; dressed as a bargeman. Was employed plying between Mar- gate and ports on the East coast. May be found at common lodging houses or working on barges. Warrant issued. 33. Margate ( Borough).— For . obtaining & 3 by a worthless cheque, No. B. 455532, on Parr's Bank, Streatham Branch, 19th ult.— C. HARRI- SON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 10 ins., of smart appearance and good address. Supposed identical with C. CURTIS, Case No. 10, 3rd inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. LANARKSHIRE. 34.— Glasgow ( City).— For stealing ( servant) £ 20 10s.— MICHAEL CAVANAGH, age 22, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair sandy, clean shaven, 2 front upper teeth missing; dress, navy blue serge jacket suit, cap. A spirit salesman. Absconded 2nd inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 35.— Warrington ( Borough).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences ( two cases), between 30th ult. and 3rd inst.— JOHN HILL, age about 45, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, full round face, hair ( bald on top) brown, moustache sandy, front upper teeth missing, figure of a man left forearm; dress, dark blue jacket and vest, black trousers, salmon- colour tie, dark cap, overalls, light button boots, carried a dinner basket. Stated he was a fitter at local works and was a native of Stockport. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Warrington. STAFFORDSHIRE. 86.— Lichfield ( County).— For embezzling £ 9 16s. 9d., between 13th May and 5th July last.— WILLIAM LESLIE CLARKE, age 18, height 5 ft. 7 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, hair ( rather long and bushy) black, eyes dark, usually wears dark clothes. Believed a native of Wylde Green, Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Lichfield. 37.— Stone ( County). For obtaining 2s 6fl by fraud.— HENRY WAYTE, alias DAVID DREW, NORRIS and ADAMS, Office No. 2475- 09 ( see Illustrated Circular 96, Fig. 33 and Casf No. 63, 2nd May, 1913), age 45, height 5 ft. 9J ins., complexion fresh, hair brown ( partly bald), eyes blue, was clean shaven when last seen ; 6car outer corner left eye, small wart inside left hand, woman with wings tattooed right forearm. Re- presented himself to be an agent of the Royal Key and Property Company. Warrant issued. 38.— Stone ( County).— For carnally knowing » girl under the age of 16 years, at Ensow, about lst May last.— CHARLES EDWARD THOMAS, alias GEORGE EVANS, age 20 to 22, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, slight moustache dark, eyes brown, of smart appearance; dress, brown tweed jacket, knicke « s and cap, dark tweed vest, heavy lace boots, usually wears a muffler. A farm labourer; native of Stoke- on- Trent. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gilbride, Stone. 39.— West Bromwich ( County).— For stealing, 6th inst., from her lodgings, a lady's bicycle, Flee(> de- Luxe transfer on head, " B. Shinton, Bull Street, West Bromwich," on dowm tube, green enamelled, gold lined, green celluloM grips, 2 roller brakes, free wheel, 28- in. wheels, Liberty or Warwick tyres, rubber pedals, Brooks saddle; 1 lady's white silk blouse; 1 pair lady's button boots, glace kid, size 5.— PAULINE YENSA MOCHA DUPONT, age about 22, height. 5 ft. 4 ins., stoutish build, complexion sallow, hair very dark, plaits over ears, eyes dark, foreign fi, p- pearance; dress, black serge costume trimmed black braid, black straw hat trimmed black bows, large drop earrings; wearing the stolen boots and blouse. A native of London. Poses as a school teacher and represents that she has obtained a situation at a local school. Absconded 6th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Whitehurst, West Bromwich. 391 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. Registered No. N. 8452, 2 seats, painted yellow, makers Armstrong Whitworth, and is believed at- tending race meetings in the Midlands and South. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. Had with him an umbrella with 2 gold bands, a pair of handcuffs and a 6- chambered revolver. Is believed to have been a pierrot at seaside resorts. Warrant issued. SUSSEX ( East). 104.— Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing £ 50 during July last.— EDWARD DAWSON, age 70, height about 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion ruddy, hair and moustache white ( may grow a beard), eyes blue, wears gold- rimmed eyeglasses. Suffers from rheumatism and walks slowly; dress ( when in Has- tings), grey clerical overcoat, tweed suit, black silk hat, lace boots. May be carrying a brown suit case, small brown brief bag and a silver- mounted ebony walking stick. Stated that he was a probate valuer; native of London. His method is to place advertisements in newspapers, prefer- ably those in small country towns, asking for cor- respondence with a lady; he gives a box number at the newspaper office to which replies are to be sent. On receiving same he gets into communica- tion with a lady likely to have ample means, makes an appointment to meet her, suggests marriage, and then endeavours to obtain money under the pretence of investing the same in a company ( in some instances a colliery company), which pays a greater rate of interest than the investor is receiv- ing ; if he succeeds in obtaining the money, he leaves to keep an appointment and absconds. He had in his possession Bank of England notes for £ 10, Nos. 5043, 4 and 5, d/- June 16th, 1911 and £ 5, No. 60033 and 4, d/- May 12th, 1912. Warrant issued.
