POLICE AZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TIIE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious off cnces u- ill be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be mode in the first instance for cost, of engraving sketches. 6. Every annoumcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. FRIDAY, OCTOBER 3, 1913. VOL. XXX., No. 3106. 8. 9. 10. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be re~ ceived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition net later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Hissing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the TJnitcd Kingdom. On the 20th ult,, he called at a motor garage, stated he was a chauffeur, asked whether he oould store a motor car there for a month,, as his employer was coming to Aberdeen to stay; then obtained lodgings on the pretence that he was in the employment of Harmsworth, Publisher, London. Has in his possession a motor car driver's licence, issued at Aberdeen on 14th October, 1912, in name of James Henderson, 579, Great Northern Road, Woodside, Aberdeen. Warrant issued. Was employed as a scale maker's canvasser and salesman. Is suspected of stealing from his lodgings a lady's 18- ct. gold dress ring, set 5 pearls, gipsy setting. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Abel, Gosport. 27 — Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing a lady's 9- ct. open face watch, blue enamelled floral design on back of case; 1 lady's 9- ct. ( believed) gold buckle keeper ring.— A man who gave the name of ARTHUR LEADER, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 7 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, clean shaven, eyes grey, large quantity of black hair and long eye lashes; wearing grey tweed cap, brown boots, blue tie. Had in his possession a nearly new Royal Enfield bicycle. Stated he was an electrician, took lodgings and left on the 16th inst. Warrant issued. 28.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing 4s. 6d.— CYRIL HORACE GIRDLESTONE, age 25 ( looks older), height 6 ft. 1 in., red face, hair dark, clean shaven, front teeth missing, scar left cheek; dress, blue dungaree overall suit, grey cap. Stated he had obtained work as an engine fitter, attended Salvation Army meetings whereby he was provided with food and lodgings, committed larceny and decamped. May be found at Salva- tion Army Shelters or Homes. Warrant issued. S., heart, J. B. and clasped hands left forearm; fond of billiards and women, very boastful; dress, brown check coat and vest, dark trousers or brown suit and cap. Sometimes represents himself as an electri- cal engineer. Native of Warrington. Has been convicted at Liverpool, Middlesbrough, Man- Chester, etc. Warrant issued. 80 — Southampton ( Borough).— For embez. zlement.— ARTHUR H. AMOS, age 22 or 23, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fair, hair ( rather long) brown; dress, morning coat and veot, braided edge, dark grey trousers with black stripes. HEREFORDSHIRE. 81.— Hereford ( County).— For rape at Eaton Bishop, 28th ult.— HARRY GRIFFITHS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, North Country accent, voice breaks at times; dress, old brown jacket and vest, trou- sers of lighter material, heavy boots. Performs tricks, plays a mouth organ and sings in public houses. Tramps the country and states he has been travelling with a boxing booth. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Thomas, Hereford. HER TFORDSHIRE. 32.— Watford ( County).— For stealing, 19th ult., a navy blue suit, faint stripe, Harry Webb on tab of jacket; 1 fawn- coloured rainproof coat, plaid lining ; 1 cream and blue striped shirt, double cuffs; 1 silver- plated cup on stand, about 9 ins. high; 1 brown portmanteau, E. G. B. thereon.— J. BAKER, age about 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., stout build, complexion dark, hair dark ( turning grey), clean shaven; wearing navy blue suit, straw hat with black band, lace boots. Carried umbrella. States he is employed at motor works in Basing- stoke. He took lodgings 16th and decamped 19th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Watford. 33.— Si. Albans ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 17th ult., a small metal clock ( re- covered); 1 dark brown jacket suit with faint stripes. KENT. 34.— Sevenoaks ( County).— For stealing, 21st ult., a motor cycle ( recovered at Uckfield).— STANLEY ROSS JENNER, alias STANLEY TOMAS and HARRY LINDRIDGE, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion pale, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes hazel, left leg shorter than right; dress, drab- colour overalls, light Nor- folk jacket, light trousers and cap, high heel on left boot. A grocer; native of Plaxtol, Kent. Previously convicted at Eastbourne, Brighton, Ramsgate, Woking, Chelmsford, and West Kent Quarter Sessions, of false pretences and cycle stealing. Warrant issued. A foreigner. The cheque, No. D 5/ 79214, is from a book on the Union of London and Smith's Bank, Regent Street Branch, which was lost at Bognor 3rd ult. G. G.; 1 hair brush and 2 hat brushes, maker Finnigan, Manchester, on side, marked F. G.; 1 linen handkerchief; 1 do. towel.
