T H E GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, JULY 25, 1913 VOL. XXX., No. 3086. 1. A. U communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAED, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious off ences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 65. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 63. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. I. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be re- ceived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter., 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persona" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post xcithin the United Kingdom. A shoemaker; native of Clapton, Lon- don. Sentenced, Middlesex Sessions, 25th October, 1907, to 7 years' penal servitude and 3 years' police supervision for larceny. Lioensed 18th April, 1912. Sentenced, County of London Ses- sions, 25th July, 1911 ( to date from 11th July, 1911), to 2 years' detention in a Borstal Institu- tion for larceny. Released on licence 5th March, 1913, to the care of the Borstal Association and she was placed in service, but on the 8th inst. she disappeared and has not since been seen. If arrested a telegram or telephonic communication should be sent to the Governor, Holloway Prison, who will send an escort for her. Warrant issued. l.— N Division.— For wilful murder by shooting.— GINO FERRARI, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair and rough moustache light, eyes brown, teeth discoloured, right shoulder slopes downwards, large feet, walks fast with head downwards; dress, blue serge jacket suit, green soft felt hat, lace boots. A native of Roggia, Italy. Has a revolver in his possession and may endeavour to leave the country. 8.— x Division.— For stealing, 18th inst., 6 lady's gold rings ( 1 set 5 diamonds, 1 set rose diamond, surrounded smaller do. in cluster, 1 set turquoise and 2 diamonds, 1 half- hoop, set 2 sap- phires, 1 red marquisate enamel, 1 Parisian gold, set large whole pearl and 2 diamonds) ; 4 brooches ( 1 safety pin, set 5 amethysts, gold centre, violet shape; 1 set garnets, 1 naval, 1 paste flower bas- ket) ; 1 brown leather dressing case, silver and ivory fittings, A. Brandon, Esq., and signed by S. M. McEwan & Son, at Wolverton, 11th inst., a brown diagonal tweed sports suit, tweed waist belt; and £ 3 Is.— J. T. BRAN- DON ( supposed false), age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair and slight moustache brown ; dress, light tweed suit, white straw hat, lace boots, carrying a stick. Is identical with MAN, Case No. 26, 6th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearce, Newport Pagnell. CAMBRIDGESHIRE. 10.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For [ embezzle- ment.— REGINALD R. FORDHAM, age about 22, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fair, hair light; dress, grey suit and cap. Has been em- ployed as a traveller to a rubber company. Ab- sconded in May last. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 11.— Runcorn ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, 12th inst., a double rolled- gold albert; 1 gold- filled locket; 1 silver match- box; 1 do. albert; 1 brooch; 2 small swallows, set about 12 imitation pearls. JACKSON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion very sallow, hair and eyes ( small pupils) dark, very talkative, speaks through one side of mouth only ; dress, dark tweed suit mingled with bright red, knitted blue silk tie, cap, brown boots with broad soles. Ap- pearance of a farmer. He obtained employment at a farm, afterwards called upon a jeweller and represented that he was a relative of the farmer, asked the shopkeeper to call at the farm to repair a clock, then selected the above articles stating he would pay for same the following day. Ennion, Runcorn. 12.— Stockport ( Borough).— For stealing a pair of boots ( recovered) 7th inst.— JAMES THOMPSON, a Scotchman, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion and heavy moustache dark, 3 abscesses right side neck. GEORGE BARRETT, alias TAYLOR and LINCOLN, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion, hair and eyes dark ; dress, old dark suit, greasy cap, brown boots ( much worn), red silk neckerchief. Attends fairs, etc., and is known to roundabout proprietors in the Midland Counties. Native of Gorton, near Man- chester. Warrant issued. 14.— Renlshaw ( County). — For stealing, 14th inst., a new black cloth skirt, 3 small bone buttons left side; 1 pink flannelette nightdress, hood, collar and cuffs; 1 muslin apron, needlework each side of front, plain shoulder straps.— TOM MILNER, age 47, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion and hair dark, blotchy face, stoops, large flat nose, scar down centre; dress, dark jacket and vest, striped trousers, grey cap, red or black and white neckerchief.— SARAH ANN MILNER, alias REED, age about 46, height 5 ft. 3 ins., slight build, complexion and hair dark, thin pointed nose, addicted to drink; dress, dark skirt, dark blue bodice, old dark coat, green motor cap, boots ( 1 black, 1 brown). DEVONSHIRE. 15.— Cullompton ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences at Huntsham, 14th inst., a bright chestnut mare, 4 years, 15 hands, silver mane and tail, white streak down face which turns on one side of nose, Roman nose, hind legs white ( nearly to hocks), scars on front of hind legs, short square tail, good action.— T. TAYLOR, alias F. COOMBES, age 50, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., stoops slightly, complexion pale, low forehead, hair ( turning grey) brown, clean shaven, eyes blue, of good address; dress, blue suit, straw hat. Ap- pearance of a coachman or horse dealer. Is iden- tical with ALBERT RICHENS, Case No. 39, 14th March, 1913. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Joslin, Cullompton. DURHAM. 16.— South Shields ( Borough).- For em- bezzlement. — WILLIAM STEPHENSON BUCHAN GRIFFIN, age 39, height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion swarthy, thin features, high cheek bones, hair, heavy moustache and eye- brows black, eyes brown ; dress, blue serge jacket suit, narrow tie, bowler hat, lace boots. A good tenor horn player; native of South Shields. Was employed as a public house manager. Absconded 30th ult. Previously employed in public bars, shipyards, clubs, and as a ship's fireman. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, South Shields. ESSEX. 17.— Grays ( County).— For absconding with workhouse clothing, 23rd ult.— ROBERT CAL- VER, age 66, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fair, stoops slightly; dress, grey coat and vest, cord trousers, blue- striped shirt, grey stockings, blue check neckerchief, all stamped " Orsett Unio^ No. 253." A labourer. Warrant issued. 18.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining food by false pretences at Stanford- le- Hope, 11th and 14th inst.— GWENDOLINE DAWES, age about 32, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion ( freckled) fresh, thin face, hair auburn, eyes brown, pigeon- toed ; dress, navy blue skirt, green striped blouse, navy blue straw hat, long navy blue coat, shoes. Had with her a child, age 2 years, complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curly) dark; wearing blue spotted overall, blue and white socks, shoes. She took lodgings and stated she would receive money from Wales in a day or so. Arrested, see Case No. 87. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Grays. 19.— Roohford ( County).— For obtaining £ 70 by false pretences ( disposing of furniture while under a bill of sale).— HENRY JAMES DUN MAN, age about 36, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., very slight build, complexion pale, long pointed nose, hair light, eyes blue; wears glasses, flat feet A stockbroker. Absconded lst inst. Mav en- deavour to leave the country.— — DUNMAN ( wife of above), age 36, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., rather stout build, complexion blotchy, hair light, eyes blue. Absconded 4th inst. Accompanied by her son, age 15 ( looks older). Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom 20.— Roohford ( County)'— For obtaining a black mare bv a worthless cheque on the London & South Western Bank, Hoe Street Branch, 7th inst., at Thundersley.— R. RICKARDS, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., slight build, com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown; dress, brown suit, large cap. A dealer; late of Walthamstow. He answered an advertisement, agreed to purchase the animal and sent the worthless cheque in payment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Scott, Rochford. 21.— Southend ( County).— For leaving liis wife and children chargeable to the Rochford Union, 4th inst. FREDERICK LAYZELL, age 29, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey ; dress, grey jacket, dark trou- sers, neckerchief and cap. A carman ; native of Southend. Warrant issued. 22.— Southend ( County).— For leaving his child chargeable to the Rochford Union, about lst April last.— ALFRED HENRY PLUM- RIDGE, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes hazel, long burn mark inside light forearm, several blue dots left arm, scar right side of neck and top of head. A fitter's labourer. Warrant issued. 23 — Southend ( County).— For obtaining 15s. by false pretences, 22nd inst.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair light, clean shaven; wearing dark tweed trousers and cap, white apron. He travels with two other men with a horse and cart hawking remnants of lino- leum. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Soutliend- on- Sea. FLINTSHIRE. 24.— Rhyl ( County).— For stealing ( servant) £ 23 5s. 6d.— FRED ANSON, age about 22, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion pale, hair ( bushy in front) and eyes dark, thick lower lip; dress, brown coat and vest, dark trousers. A waiter; native of Leeds. Has been employed as a ship's steward. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Rhyl. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 25.— Cardiff ( City).— For fraud ( false pre- tences).— WILLIAM PEACEFUL, alias NOR- RIS, FORREST, EDWARDS, Office No. 1714- 05 ( see Illustrated Circular No. 80, Fig. 9), age 36, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes hazel, clean shaven; scar right temple, right little finger crooked; dress, blue coat and vest, brown trousers and cap, blue muffler with white stripes, white shirt with blue stripes. A painter; native of Birmingham. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 26— Gloucester ( County).— For stealing ( servant) a plain gold ring; £ 6 and a small quan- tity of silver, 11th inst. HENRY THOMAS PARRY, age 33, height. 5 ft. 8i ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eye ® hazel, bust of woman left forearm, bust of woman and Clara on shoulder, coin palm of left hand, Buffalo Bill right shoulder, snake right forearm, Queen's head palm of right hand, large scar near right armpit, scar 1 in. long left side, 2 scars back of neck ; dress, dark jacket and vest , dark trousers with green stripes, dark cap, light lace boots. A native of Newnham- on- Severn. Has been employed by a farmer. Pre- i. ously convicted at Evesham, Blackwood, Cardiff, Newport and Blanford. W7arrant issued. HEREFORDSHIRE. 27.— Hereford ( City).— For neglecting his 4 children in a manner likely to cause them un- necessary suffering.— GEORGE HEPDEN, age 31, height 5 ft. 10A ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, scar right temple, over left eye- brow, ballet girl, dove, with love, woman's head and bust tattooed right arm, woman's head back right hand, girl in tights and a rose left arm, rings on 2 middle fingers left hand, varicose veins inside right leg. A labourer. Has been employed on public works at Bargoed and other places in South Wales where he has been recently heard of. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hereford. KENT. 28.— Margate ( Borough).— For obtaining by false pretences, 25th ult., a Nvdia camera, folding pattern, complete with changing box and leather case, rjuarter- plate, with Ross f/ 7.3. homocentric lens.— FREDERICK H. RUSSELL, age about 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., red cheeks, hair light, bushy at sides; well dressed; wearing a round green soft felt hat. Warrant issued. 29.— Margate ( Borough).— For obtaining by worthless cheque, a pair of boots ( recovered) and £ 1 18s. 6d., 12th inst.— C. WILSON, age about 33, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven; dress, light grey tweed suit, bowler hat, smart appearance, speaks quietly. He purchased a pair of boots and tendered in payment a cheque for £ 3, drawn by C. Wilson in favour of self, on the London, City and Midland Bank, Ltd., Chelsea Branch, No. Nl/ 45421, and received the balance. See Cases 24 and 37, 4th inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. 80. - Ramsgate ( Borough). — For stealing ( servant) £ 2 10s., 18th inst.— BERT EVANS, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, hair very light, eyes grey, slight moustache light; wearing dark green suit and cap, black boots. A kitchen hand; believed a native of Halstead, Essex. He has been employed at a restaurant here for the past week, and previously at a Jewish board- ing house in Sewyn Road, Margate, and the Salva- tion Army Shelter, 116, Middlesex Street, White- chapel. LANCASHIRE. 31.— Bootle { Borough).— For stealing a silver plated cornet and case ( recovered), 15th inst.— WILLIAM HALPERRIN or HALPIN, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 ins., hair dark, eyes ( large) brown, clean shaven, South Country accent; dress, dark striped coat, brown check trousers, dark mixture tweed cap, bow tie. Information to the Chief Constable, Bootle. 32.— Salford ( Borough).— For failing to notify change of residence.— Licence holder JAMES W. KENNEALLY, alias WALSH and JOHNSON, Office No. 1260- 05, age 33, height 5 ft. 4£ ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey; tombstone and cross right forearm, flower back right hand, " In Memory of my Aunt, A. C." web of right thumb, lost right forefinger to 2nd joint, heart back left hand. A ship's fireman; native of Malta. Sentenced, Preston Sessions, 3rd August, 1910, to 3 years' penal servitude for shop- breaking, etc. Licensed 6th December, 1912. k. 378. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Salford. 83. - Southport ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences, 15th May last.— HAROLD MARSH, age 27, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair dark, parted down centre, moustache dark, usually waxed at ends, eyes grey. A native of Penistone. Last heard of in Notting- ham City. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable. Southport. RENFREWSHIRE. 34.— Paisley ( County).— For obtaining board - and lodgings and £ 5 17s. by false pretences, be- tween 4th and 17th inst., and stealing a 9- ct. gold curb albert, gold cross attached ; 1 light rainproof coat, nearly new: 1 soft greyish hat; 1 silver- mounted stick; and 4s. at Port Glasgow, Nth inst. — HAROLD MALCOLM REDGRAVE, age 34, slight build, round shoulders, complexion pale, hair ( curly) light, clean shaven, walks quickly; dress, steel- grey suit, light muffler, lace boots and the stolen coat. An engineer; believed a native of Barrow- in- Furness. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Paisley. STAFFORDSHIRE. 35.— Stoke ~ on - Trent ( Borough).— For larceny ( lodgings), 17th inst.— HARRY JONES, alias SUMMERS and EDWINSON, Office No. 1556- 10. age 28. height 5 ft. 6| ins., complexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes grey ; tattooed Sarah, snake, dagger, shamrock, etc., right forearm, 2 daggers and flowers left forearm ; dress, brown cap with Isle of Man brooch in front, brown jacket and vest, blue serge trousers with light blue stripe, lace boots. SUFFOLK ( East). 36.— Ipswich ( Borough).— For stealing a pair of trousers and a wrapper.— JOHN LEWIS CLARKE, age 43, very thin, height 5 ft. 5 ins., weight about 9 stone, complexion fresh, no hair, eyes grey, G. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRIOT 37 — Q Division.— For stealing jewellery from shops.— ELLEN RADCLIFFE, alias JANE MASON, PHILLIPS and MANSFIELD, Office No. S. 138,602, age 41, height 5 ft. 2\ ins., com- lects a quantity of jewellery, which she asks may be forwarded to a fictitious address, and while examining the articles in the shop, secretes a valu- able piece of jewellery about her person.
