T H E POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SEBIES. FRIDAY, APRIL 18, 1913. VOL. XXX., No. 3058. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions rdating 19 them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property xcill be likewise, inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all eases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, irhen the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. shuuld be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. 9. 10. 11. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be re- ceived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. DERBYSHIRE. 13.— Matlock ( County).— For stealing, 5th inst., from his lodgings, an 18- ct. gold watch, Lon- don make, open face, Roman numerals, engine- turned back; 1 gold chain ( recovered).— GEORGE BROOKS ( supposed false), age about 36, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion pale, hair dark, small moustache; tattooed bracelet on wrist, ring on one finger, 2 or 3 teeth missing and broken one upper jaw; dress, dark grey suit, cap, button shoes. Stated he was a native of Portsmouth. Warrant issued. 14.— Matlock ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences, 9th inst.— WILLIAM GREEN. alias GEORGE TAYLOR, FRED CHARLES THOMPSON and HENRY DICKENSON, age 29, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes hazel, left fingers appear contracted; dress, new navy blue serge suit, light overcoat, bowler hat, black and white spotted tie, suede gloves, lace shoes; wearing silver albert with C. E. M. S. badge attached. A native of Wigan. He obtains money from members of C. E. M. S. by stating he has lost his return railway ticket. See Case No. 22, 4th inst. Warrant issued. A printer. Will seek employment through Labour Exchanges. Absconded 7th inst. Warrant issued. 16.— Wareham ( County).— For larceny.— JOSEPH CHARLES DARE, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, round face, hair brown, moustache light brown, eyes blue, small mole or wart left cheek, tattooed both arms. He called at a house, engaged rooms for 3 months, representing that he was a Govern- ment surveyor, he went to his bedroom and left shortly after. ( bastardy arrears and costs).— ALBERT BARTLETT, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., hair and slight moustache fair, tattooed ring third finger left hand. An ex- sapper of the Royal Engineers. He held the licence of the Anchor Hotel, Warminster, Wilts., from May, 1910, until about 6 weeks ago, when he absconded. Information to Supt. Abel, Gosport. HEREFORDSHIRE. 21.— Weobly ( County).— For stealing ( servant), 14th inst., £ 5.— WILLIAM WILLIAMS, age 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, bow- legged, peculiar gait; dress, new navy blue suit, black hard felt hat, new brown boots. A journeyman wheelwright; native of Cornwall or Devonshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Weaver, Weobley. KENT. 22.— Faversham ( County).— For stealing a coat and vest ( recovered), 2 pairs of sheets, 2 pil- low slips, a lady's umbrella and basket.— BERTHA THOMAS, alias ANN ROYAL BERTHA HAR- RIS, EVANS and ROYLE, Office No. 1280- 08, age 58, height 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion dark, hair grey, eyes ( weak) brown, ears pierced, slightly round shoulders; dress, black skirt and three- quarter black jacket, small black bonnet, grey fur round neck, shoes; wears a very heavy wed- ding ring. Not now wanted; sentence expired. 24.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For stealing a new motor cycle, 4- cylinder, 5- H. P., F. N. make, No. 50462, 1913 build , painted grey, 2- speed gear, Englebert tyres; 10th inst,— ALEXANDER GRAHAM, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., good build, complexion fresh, sharp features, clean shaven; dress, black leather jacket, grey knickers, stockings and cap. Appearance of a naval officer. He left for London on 14th inst., and had with him a large quantity of luggage, including 4 large trunks. Warrant issued. 25.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For stealing a gold- colour metal watch; 1 silver chain, compass attached; and a 9- ct. gold chain pattern ring.— WILLIAM YOUNGER, age about 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion and hair dark, York- shire accent; dress, dark suit and cap. LANCASHIRE. 26.— Barrow- in- Furness ( Borough).— For non- payment of £ 8 14s. 6d. maintenance ar- rears.— JULIAN De HAES, alias TONY WAT SON, age 26, height about 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark, speaks English perfectly. An acrobat; native of Antwerp. Supposed travel- ling with Hanneford's Circus. Warrant issued. A motor mechanic; believed a native of Manches- ter. Has worked at garages at Llandudno and Liverpool. May seek employment at motor gar- ages or at Labour Exchanges. NORFOLK. 29.— Aylsham ( County).— For embezzling £ 2 7s. 3| d.— FRANK HALL, age 19, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion pale, full face, hair and eyes dark brown; dress, dark suit and overcoat with strap at back, dark green soft felt hat, lace boots; carried a cane. OXFORDSHIRE. 30.— Henley ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 8th inst., a costermonger's barrow, painted dark blue, white lines, " G. Simmons" painted on off side.— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion dark, full face, clean shaven, slightly deaf. A rag and bone gatherer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. SOMERSETSHIRE. 31.— Weston- Super- Mare ( County^.— For stealing £ 103 5s. 3d.— GERALD WIDLAKE, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, front teeth missing, slightly deaf, peculiar muffled voice; dress, navy blue suit, green soft hat, muffler, brown boots. A native of Weston- super- Mare. Has a motor car driver's licence, issued this year. May be found driving a car. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Richardson, Weston- super- Mare. 32.— Bath ( City).— For stealing 13s. 8- jd., 10th inst.— MARK DORRINGTON, alias ALBERT WILLIAM VAUGHAN, ROBERT THOMAS HILDITCH, ALBERT E. McKENZIE and BERT ALBERT, Office No. 1034- 04, age 31, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, dark grey striped jacket, blue trousers, dark cap, double collar with front com- bined, lace boots, pointed toes, much worn. He was sent to work at a private house, stole the money and decamped. Stays at Church Army and other homes and may have in his possession a work ticket from a Church Army Home. SURREY. 37.— Oxted ( Ccunty).— For obtaining by false pretences at Burstow, 8th inst., a mare ( recovered). — JIM SKEETS, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., square shoulders, full red face, clean shaven. Fre- quents cattle markets. Known at Redhill and Croydon. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. West, Oxted. WORCES TERSHIRE. 38.— Dudley ( Borough).— For stealing a silver English lever watch, " James Snead" scratched outside of inner case.— FREDERICK PARSONS, age 23 or 24, height about 5 ft. 8| ins., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to sandy) light, eyes blue, 4 upper front teeth artificial, right thumb injured ; dress, navy blue suit, black hard felt hat. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 39.— Barnsley l ( Borough).— For stealing a blanket cloth overcoat, double breasted, belt at back; also for obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 40.— F Division.— Remanded till 24th inst., charged with obtaining £ 10 15s. by false pretences. — HENRY PHILIP PASCALL, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( pointed ends) brown, eyes blue, of Jewish and smart appearance; dress, grey mixture jacket and vest, grey striped trousers, brown overcoat, bowler hat, black tie. A native of London. Under the guise of Pascall & Co. and P. McCarthy & Co., merchants and factors of high- class silks, linens, etc., from Belfast and Manchester, he causes type- written circulars, with which are enclosed patterns of linen, silk, etc., to be sent to good- class residen- tial districts, stating that a representative will call on a specific date with further patterns, with a view to obtaining orders. On the date named he calls and produces certain patterns, and states he will sell similar goods, which are priced ridiculously low. He invariably obtains an order for the silk or linen, and afterwards produces several dress lengths and says that if they were purchased, the firm would supply silk linings, trimmings, buttons, etc., also at a very low price. He demands cash down for the dress lengths, and promises that the silk or linen, etc., will be forwarded in due course. A very high price is obtained for the dress lengths, which are, in fact, of a very inferior quality, and of little value. In all cases, orders are given for the dress lengths, upon the promise that the silk, linen, etc., is to be forwarded later, then departs, and nothing more is heard of him or the silk « , linen, etc., ordered.
