THE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, MARCH 28, 1913 VOL. XXX., No. 3052. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the. charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. < j. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaran- teed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent ; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. 9. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen pro- perty to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be re- ceived not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion { if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. COLES, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion and hair dark, clean shaven, bad teeth, bandage left wrist, probably wearing glasses; dress, dark overcoat with band at back, dark jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, black silk tie, brown kid gloves, hard felt hat, lace boots. Represented that he was employed by a dentist at Northamp- ton and that he ad been in business in South Wales. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearce, Newport Pagnell. Information cancelled. DURHAM. 22.— Gateshead ( Crunty).— For obtaining £ 93 17s. 2d. by false pretences at Washington, 1st inst.— ROBERT SIMPSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 11 ins. or 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, of smart appearance; wearing black, dark grey, or brown overcoat, bowler or soft velvet hat; wears diamond pin and ring. He was employed as managing director of the Elite Theatre, Ltd., Stanley < fc Alexandra Theatre, Washington, and made out a worthless cheque for £ 100, payable to the resident manager at Wash- ington, on Lloyd's Bank, obtained the amount and stated he would have the money made up in separate packages for each artiste; the same even- ing he collected the amount taken at the first performance and absconded in motor car B. K. 196 on plate. May be accompanied by a woman ( not wanted), age about 35, stout build, hair golden; had with her three portmanteaux and two pack- ages. Rees, County Police, Abeadare. 24.— Bridgend ( County).— For stealing at Blackmill, 23rd inst., a motor cycle, 1912 pattern, single cylinder, engine No. 4204, Dunlop front tyre, Continental back tyre, Jones speedometer, F. R. S. headlight, " X. L. all" saddle with back rest, Brooks bag and carrier, maker, James, 3|- horse- power, identification No. L. 93.— A man, who gave the name of T. WILLIAMS, age 28 to 30, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., rather full face, clean shaven, hair believed fair; wearing mackintosh overalls, leather waist belt, grey cap. Accom- panied by a man, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., clean shaven; wearing overalls; was riding a free- engine Triumph motor cycle with Miller's head- light. Warrant issued. A gardener; native of Chipping Sod- bury; and A MAN, age about 24, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue, clean shaven. May be found at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. HAMPSHIRE. 26.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For embezzle- ment.— ALBERT WILLIAM CROOMBES, age 38, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fair ( inclined to sandy), slight moustache sandy, eyes blue, rather large thin face, winks when talking; wearing fawn- colour overcoat, grey soft hat, lace boots. A traveller. Warrant issued. 27.— Portsmouth ( Borough). - For obtaining money by false pretences.— ALFRED MIDDLE- TON, alias DALTOfr, age 40 to 45, height 6 ft. 1 in., powerful build, complexion pale, heavy moustache; London accent. States he has been a prison warder. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HERTFORDSHIRE. ' 28.— Hitch in ( County).— For embezzling £ 1 16s. 9d.— ALBERT HAWKINS ( supposed false), age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fair, hair ( bushy) dark brown, eyes believed brown, one right toe deformed, limps; dress, brown jacket suit, fawn- colour vest with red spots, light cap. May have a bicycle with him. Has been employed as a photographer's canvasser. Supposed a native of Warrington, Lanes. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. KENT. 29.— Dart ford ( County).— For obtaining 3s.( id. by false pretences.— CHARLES GREEN, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion and hair dark, turning grey, 1st joint of right finger mis- sing ; dressed as a mechanic. He calls at houses, states he is employed by the Singer Sewing Ma- chine Co., examines machines and obtains money on the pretence that the machines require cleaning. Warrant issued. Information to Supt, Hayward, Dartford. 30.— Maidstone ( County).— For stealing, 7th inst., at Hollingbourne, a bicycle, 26- in. frame, 28- in. wheels, Villers 2- speed hub, raised handle bars, roller brakes, plated carrier back and front, Granby tyre front wheel, Clincher Vacuum back, " W. H. Cordingley, Cycle Agent, Hollingbourne," on head and back mudguard, bright mud- flap front, Imperial saddle, No. 22.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins.; wearing dark navy blue suit and cap. LANCASHIRE. 31.— Old Trafford ( Ctunty).— For embez- zlement— HORATIO MATHER, age 28, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaven; dress, grey striped suit, dark grey mixture overcoat, grey cap, lace boots. A native of Heaton Park, near Manchester. Warrant issued. 32.— Old Trafford ( County).— For stealing £ 50, 19th inst.— GEORGE HOWIE, age about 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fitesh, wears glasses; dress, navy blue suit, lace boots; wearing a double gold guard. A cashier. Warrant issued. 88 .— Old 1 raff or d ( County).— For carnally knowing a girl under the age of 16.— PERCY GRANVILLE BANTOM, age 45, height 5 ft. 3 ins., slight build, thin features, hair and mous- tache light brown, turning grey. Is accompanied by a woman, age 20 and a child. During his residence at Prestwich, he built a motor garage, and described himself as a company promoter. Last heard of at Bristol. Warrant issued. Keys, Old Trafford. 34.— Liverpool ( City).— For attempting to obtain money by false pretences, 20th ult.— A MAN, age about 25, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion pale, hair ( inclined to curly at sides) light, slight moustache. He called upon a pawn- broker, offered in pledge a heavy gold- cased belcher ring ( loaded with metal), bearing a forged 18- ct. Government stamp. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 35.— St. Helens ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 1 16s. Id., 20tli inst.— ALFRED ROSS, age 19, height 5 ft. 8i ins., slight build, complexion and hair dark, long thin face, clean shaven, eyes blue- grey, London accent, bone projecting from right shoulder, scar bend of left arm; dress, green jacket, browii vest, dark grey trousers with thick green stripes, dark grey cap, lace boots. A labourer; stated he had served in the Army. At- tends temperance halls, Salvation Army shelters and religious meetings. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. LINCOLNSHIRE. 36.— Lincoln South ( County).— For obtain- ing food and lodgings by false pretences at Brace- bridge Heath, 11th and 12th inst.— JACK WIL LIAMS, age 31, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown, moustache brown; wear- ing finger of an astraclian glove right forefinger; dress, dark jacket, dark serge jacket, red stripes ( similar to a postman's) underneath, 2 dark waist- coats, brown cord trousers, with a pair of dark trousers underneath, light grey cap, red or check tie, muffler, lace boots; wearing a silver- colour watch chain. He stated he was a foreman of a gang of men who were repairing telegraph wires in the district; Suffolk accent. Absconded 12th iust. Committed a similar offence at Thur- maston, Leicestershire, on the 20th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jarvill, Lincoln South.
