THE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 1913. VOL. XXX., No. 3042. I. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted m one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. I. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Kvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be, guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should b » prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. M. J." tattooed back left forearm, etc. A bricklayer; native of Weymouth. Sentenced at Dorchester Assizes, 15th January, 1910, to 4 years' penal servitude for burglary and arson. Licence expires 8th February, 1914 ( 25 days as an appellant). Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 12.— Cambridge ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences.— W. WARD ( supposed false), age 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark; 1st joint right thumb missing, scar over right eyebrow, slightly deaf; dress, long dark overcoat, band at back, black bowler hat, black leggings. He visits vil- lages, takes photographs of private houses and schools for picture post- cards, obtains money in advance, gives receipts, but fails to execute orders. May be identical with WILLIAM WARD, alias WILSON, who was convicted at St. Ives, 31st January, 1911, and sentenced to 3 months' im- prisonment for similar frauds. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, County Police, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 13.— Crewe { County).— For stealing a dark grey overcoat, double breasted, belt at back, strap on cuffs; 1 pair reindeer gloves, size ; 1 pair light box calf boots, size 7, Derby fronts.— A MAN, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache black, eyes very dark; wearing a fawn- colour mackintosh, black woollen jacket, hard felt hat and probably the stolen articles. He took lodgings, stating he was an Excise officer. See Case No. 36, 14th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 14.— Macclesfield { County).— For stealing at Butley, 29th ult., a dark blue jacket, black lining, white sleeve lining, black bone buttons; 2 National Insurance cards, " Edward Murfin, Mill Hill Farm, Poynton," thereon; and 12 stamps in one pocket, " Weston, maker, Stockport," on tab; 1 pair dark blue trousers, lined three- quarter length, white, bottoms lined black, " Bulldog" on two buttons on front; 1 pair brown boots, size 8, " South African Field Boot" stamped inside.— JOSEPH WRIGHT, age about 22, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 ins., clean shaven, stammers, one right finger deformed, anchor left forearm, dots right fore- arm, military gait; dress, cord vest and trousers, green muffler with red stripes, light cap, may be wearing the stolen jacket. Has been employed on a farm. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Ennion, County Police, Macclesfield. 16.— Northwich ( County) — For stealing, 3rd inst., a haircutting machine ( recovered), and 1 razor ( Rogers).— JOHN BROOKS, age 34, height height 5 ft. 7 ins., stiff build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark; dress, dark grey jacket and vest, dark trousers, dark tweed cap; wore a muffler. A native of Winsford, Cheshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Thompson, Northwich. CUMBERLAND. 16.— Penrith { County).— For stealing from dwelling house, 27th ult., a gold brooch ( hair in centre) ; gold brooch, " In Memory of my Hus- band " on front; pair of gold earrings, star in centre; dark- coloured shawl ( Paisley ends) ; several aprons; and 14s. 3d. ( from gas meter).— ELIZA- BETH SCOTT, alias INGLIS, Office No. 623- 09 ( for photograph and description see Case 42, Nth May, 1912). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Barron, Penrith. DENBIGHSHIRE. 17.— Wrexham { County).— For burglary and stealing, 21st ult., a lady's gold watch and 12s. 6d. cash. — WILLIAM WEATHERILL, alias WEATHERALL, Office No. S. 158362 ( see Case 35, 14th inst.), age 22, height 5 ft. 1\ ins., com- plexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, mole right cheek, hairy mole right arm. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Wrexham. DERBYSHIRE. 18.— Alfreton { County).— For obtaining food and money by false pretences.— HARRY FORD, alias SERVANT, LEE, WOOD, BELL, and WIL- SON, age 51, height 5 ft. 8 ins., very stout build, fat face, hair ( bald on top) grey, clean shaven, lump on one wrist; dress, dark jacket and vest, molesbin trousers, grey cap, muffler, Army boots. He takes lodgings, states he has obtained work at local works, induces one of the household to write to his sister asking that J£ 5 of the £ 11, left with her, be sent him, then borrows money and ab- sconds. DEVONSHIRE. 19.— Exeter ( County).— For obtaining credit by fraud.— G. JAMIESON, alias CHARLES PEARSON, GRIST, BANKS, FELLOWES and COATS, Office No. 1569- 01 ( see Illustrated Circu lar No. 96, Fig. 11), age 45, height 5 ft. 4£ ins., complexion fresh, hair brown ( bald on top), heavy long light moustache, eyes blue; small scar right side of nose, left thumb deformed; dress, brown mixture tweed suit and cap, green soft hat, drab overcoat; also had a new navy blue suit, " J. G. Matthews, Exmouth," on tab, sewn on the inside pocket of coat, similar name on trousers' buttons. Stops at good- class private lodging houses. He booked by rail from Seaton Junction to Yeovil Junction, 26th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Exeter. ESSEX. 20.— Southend ( County).— Tor obtaining £ 1 8s. 6d., by false pretences, between 24th ult., and 7th inst.— HERBERT NELSON, age 33 to 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., stout build, complexiou fresh, broad face, hair black, eyes dark, one leg withered and shorter than other, wound on each wrist; wearing dark overcoat, black bowler hat, button boots. A native of London. He posed as a detective officer and stated he had been on special work at Chatham. Warrant issued. 21.— Southend [ County).— For stealing a feather bed, etc.— JOHN WILLIAM THOMP- SON, alias BROWN, Office No. 104- 13, age 32, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey; scar back of neck, over left eye- brow, top of right forefinger has been cut off; dress, grey suit and cap, wears a neckerchief. Had a pedlar's certificate in his possession and may be found selling cheap music. At one time had a music stool in the New Cut, Lambeth, and was known as Brownie. Warrant issued. Jones, Southend. 22.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing, 15th inst., a dark brown suit, soft green hat, 1 striped shirt, 1 grey cap, 1 razor.— JOHN LONG, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion sallow, hair and eyes brown, clean shaven, 3 scars back of head, slight impediment in speech. Supposed a native of Newcastle- on- Tyne.— ROBERT CHARLTON, age 22, height 5 ft. 9 ins., com- plexion fair, clean shaven, eyes blue, slightly bow- legged. Supposed a native of West Charton, North Shields. Absentees from the 2nd Durham Light Infantry. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Colchester. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 23.— Neath ( County).— For stealing a grey overcoat with green stripes, velvet collar, light striped lining, double breasted.— WILLIAM JONES, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., good build, hair dark brown, clean shaven, of rather smart appearance; dress, grey coat and vest, dark trousers, grey cap, new lace boots, leather chain with gilt mounts, carried a rough ash stick. A native of Carmarthenshire. Stated he was an electrician at a colliery. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Evans, County Police, Neath. 24.— Cardiff ( City).— For larceny.— AGNES CHAPMAN, age 15, height 5 ft., complexion fresh, hair auburn, very large eyes; dress, navy blue jacket and skirt, black hat, lace boots. A native of Cardiff. May be found in company of prostitutes or employed in seamen's boarding houses. Warrant issued. 25.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining food by false pretences.— FRED JONES, alias FRED CHARLES BROOKS ( correct name), age 22, height 5 ft. 6 ins., strong build, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes blue; dress, dark suit, bowler hat, dark tie, heavy nailed boots. A labourer. He obtains food and lodging^ by false- ly representing himself as a grocer's assistant. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Cardiff. HAMPSHIRE. 26.— Woolston ( County).— For stealing, 15th inst., a dark blue suit; 1 dark heavy motor coat, deep collar, strap at back; 1 white linen shirt; 1 pair gold- cased cuff links; 1 white silk handker- chief, initials O. C. in corner; 1 purse containing £ 2 10s. and a watch key.— A MAN, age 17, height 5 ft. 6 ins. , complexion fresh, hair ( bald patch right side of head) light, eyes grey; dress, Army suit and boots, cap, and the stolen overcoat. He was recently discharged from the Royal Field Ar- tillery. Information to Supt. Littlewood, Woolston. KENT. 27.— Maidstone ( Borough). — Absconded from his bail 13th inst., whilst on remand on a charge of larceny.— JOHN EDWARD YOUNG, alias HALLIDAY, etc., Office No. 1212- 00, age 32, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion swarthy, hair dark brown, eyes blue; blue scar right eyebrow, tomb- stone. " Eliza Wilson," crossed flags, etc., right forearm, clasped hands back right wrist; dragon, bust of woman, " Polly Young," " Mary Ann Sheen," etc., left forearm; dress, old dark jacket and trousers, wrap, dark skull cap. Native of Detroit, U. S. A. He is accompanied by a woman ( not wanted), age 35 to 40 ( stout build), height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., rather deaf; wearing dark jacket and man's cap. Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 28.— Old Trafford ( County).— For stealing from a dwelling house, 9th inst., a lady's silver ' chain satchel, very fine pattern, about 7 ins. wide, 6 ins. deep, fastens with a clasp.— A MAN, age about 33, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, clean shaven; dress, light tweed suit, light cap, brown boots. Information to Supt. Crossley, County Police, Old Trafford. 29.— Liverpool ( City).— For stealing a gold locket and chain from his lodgings, 7th inst.— HARRY HOWARD, age about 34, height about 5 ft. 4 ins., broad shoulders, erect bearing, com- plexion dark, long face, pointed chin, large nose, hollow cheeks, high forehead, hair auburn, droop- ing moustache sandy, eyes grey, scratches on right cheek, scar corner of left eyebrow; dress, a railway- man's blue pilot square- cut coat, double breasted, black bone buttons, dark brown jacket and vest, dark trousers, grey tweed cap. Stated he was a telegraphic linesman on the London and North Western Railway. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 3 PORTRAITS OF^ PERSONS WANTED. Active, plausible and of 81.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For stealing ( servant) £ 40, 16th inst.— JOHN JAMES DWYER, alias HENRY JAMES COOPER, ago 52 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., com- plexion pale, hair black, clean shaven, slightly lame; dress, supposed blue Melton overcoat, double breasted, brown lounge suit with blue stripes, dark green soft hat; wearing gold snake- pattern ring, set 2 diamonds and a gold signet ring, set deep red stone. A fishmonger's manager. Is said to be a pensioner from the Royal Marine Light In- fantry. Wears five war medals and the Egyptian star. Absconded 16th ult. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Eastbourne. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. a firm at Worcester, obtained an order for goods and gave a receipt with name of the firm printed thereon.
