Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. fl. I'urticulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where a reward is off< ted, the name ami address uf tome person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exnr. l conditions must be clearly staled. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen prope rty at a cost of ( is. per photograph or sketch, unless the urtici is largr or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .4 remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 4. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not hss rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or liis immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announerments concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserteit in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on tlnir apprehension or recovery, at once hansmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the numbi r of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officii signing the request for the insertion of any annuuner- ment will be wholly r> sponsible for any proceedings which may result frum such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be receii I not later than noon on \ Yi dnesduy, and for the Tuesday idition not lai • ' than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of I e paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. THE EDITOR, NEW Scotland Yard, London, S. W. SPECIAL INQUIRY. 1.— LIEUT. H. L. CLARK, an assist- ant surgeon, now in custody at Agra, India, for Murder, is believed to have used gelsemine hydrochlorate in commit- ting the crime. A bottle marked " one dram " and containing a quantity of the drug was found at his house, but the enquiries in that country have failed to trace the place of purchase. Lieut. • Clark is thought to have purchased it through the post in July, August or September, 1911, and the police at Agra ask that enquiries be made by all Police Forces in the United Kingdom, with a view to trace the sale. It is said that the drug, in the quantity stated, could have only been purchased from a manufacturer of the drug, a wholesale druggist or manufacturing chemist. It is requested that inquiry be made by all Police Forces in the United Kingdom, and that in the event of the sale to Lieut. Clark being traced, the name and address of the seller, with the date and year of sale be at once forwarded to the Assistant Commissioner, C. I. Department, New Scotland Yard, in order that it may be cabled to the authorities at Agra, as requested by them. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. BOLTON, age 32 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, thin face, hair and slight moustache black, eyes brown, of good address; dress, blue serge suit, long roll col- lar on jacket, light brown overcoat, yellow chamois leather gloves. 6.— W Division.— For being concerned in stealing a motor car.— FRANK ORMROD, alias HARRIS GORDON LENNOX, age 23, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light, clean shaven, nose broken, figure of a woman in blue and red ink left forearm; of military appearance; dress, grey motor coat, blue suit, Alpine hat, brown and green motor scarf, patent leather button boots ; carries a partridge cane. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 7-— Newbury ( County).— For embezzlement between 9th and 23rd September, 1912.— ALFRED J. LEWIS, age 45, height 6 ft. 1 or 2 ins., com- plexion sallow, thin face, hair dark brown, heavy moustache dark ( supposed dyed), eyes ( full) grey, leans slightly forward when walking, walks badlv, swings left foot; wearing long brown overcoat, bowler hat, carried a brown Gladstone bag. A cinematograph manager. May be accompanied by his wife ( a German woman) and two daughters, age 13 and 11 years respectively. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gamble, Newbury. 8.- Windsor ( Borough). For obtaining various sums of money by false pretences, 14th November last.— WILLIAM HINDLE, age about 42, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair and mous- tache brown, large scar on face; wearing grey overcoat and bowler hat. Has with him a number of samples of business cards, etc., in a brown case. He calls upon small bootmakers, hairdressers and publicans and represents that he is canvassing on commission for orders for printing business cards, bottle labels, tags, etc., by a fictitious firm whose name he makes up on a rubber stamp, obtains orders, asks for deposits and gives a receipt from an ordinary counterfoil receipt book, signed " Wm. Hindle." May probably stay at a common lodging house. Is also wanted at Blandford. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor. BUCKING HA MS HI RE. 9.— High Wycombe ( County).— For ob- taining food and money by false pretences at Mar- low, 2nd and 3rd inst. RUTTER ( supposed false), age about 54, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion dark, hair ( frizzy) black, pitted with small- pock, 2 large moles one side of face, one near temple, one near mouth, 2 front upper teeth mis- sing, large cut scar top of head; dress, grey skirt with light stripes, cream- colour blouse with green stripes, long black jacket, trimmed small beads, figured leaves, etc., large black hat, trimmed 3 large red roses, dark brown neck fur. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Trevener, County Police, High Wycombe. 10.— Newport Pagnell ( County).— On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 1 7s. 6d. imposed for game trespass.^- JOHN RIDG- WAY, alias DORMER, age 51, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light brown, eyes blue, scar bridge of nose. A farm labourer; native of Great Harwood ; an inveterate poacher. Stays at common lodging houses. Pre- viously convicted at Beaconsfield and Hertford- shire. Information to Supt. CHESHIRE. lS.- Altrincham ( County).- For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences.— J. W. TAYLOR ( supposed false), age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., com- plexion pale, hair and moustache dark, long thumb nails, very plausible; dress, dark mixture overcoat, dark trousers, hard hat. He represented himself as one of the trustees of a working men's social club, advertised for a steward and obtained the above amount from an applicant as guarantee. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sutherland, Altrincham. 14.— Dukinfield ( County). — For obtaining money by false pretences.— R. W7ILLIAMS, alias R. MARTIN, age 40 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, slightly knock- kneed; of smart appear- ance; dress, dark tweed suit, fawn- colour mackin- tosh or dark overcoat, fawn- colour waterproof cap, lace boots. He was employed as agent to a gramo- phone and record manufacturers, Manchester, but was discharged on 31st ult., subsequently called upon customers and received monies due. Accom- panied by a woman ( not wanted), age about 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fair, large Roman nose, hair auburn ; wearing long dark coat, hat trimmed dark velvet. Warrant issued. Croghan, Dukinfield. 15.— Birkenhead ( Borough).— For shop- breaking and larceny, 27th ult.— A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion sallow, rather broad flat nose, deep wrinkle on top close to eyes, hair dark brown; dress, new blue suit. Sup- posed a native of Coventry. Has been employed at motor garages as a driver and cleaner; has also been a deck hand. Information to Supt. Parker, Central Police Office, Birkenhead. DENBIGHSHIRE. 16.— Wrexham ( County).— For abduction.— WILLIAM NORRIS, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., good build, hair black, clean shaven, eyes dark, scar over one eye, 4th and 5th toes of one foot missing; appearance of an American; dress, brown suit, dark brown cap, Wellington boots. He was in Canada for several years. May endeavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Description of girl, SARAH JANE JONES, age 17, height about 4 ft. 11 in., round features, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, long dark coat, dark blue skirt, white blouse, green hat, trimmed black rib- bon, shoes. A good singer. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Wrexham. DERBYSHIRE. 17.— Alfreton ( County). — For burglary, 15th ult., at Blackwell.— H. HALMSHAW, age 37, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light, eyes blue, scar on nose, coal scar on forehead, anchor left forearm; dress, dark jacket and vest, cord trousers, old lace boots. A native of Rawmarsh, Yorkshire.— T. INWOOD, age 35, height 5 ft. 4J ins., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown, burn scar right leg; dress, black jacket and trousers, dark capj old lace boots. Fennell, Alfreton. 18.— Chesterfield ( Borough).— For being concerned with HARRY GORDON ( in custody) in stealing, 18th inst., a silver lever watch, " New Patent " on dial, No. 30097 ; 1 9- ct. gold double chain, dog link pattern, gold seal, set red and green stones, attached.— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., hair and moustache dark, of shabby genteel appearance. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. vest, green neckerchief, bowler hat. A butcher; native of Ilford. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 20.— Witham ( County).— For obtaining 4s. by false pretences.— H. RUSSELL, alias CAMP- BELL, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( may be false) dark brown, teeth discoloured; dress, long heavy dark overcoat, dark suit, dark tie, bowler hat. He solicits orders for tea, obtains payment for same but fails to forward the goods. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Coppin, Witham. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 21.— Cheltenham ( County).— for stealing a quilt ( recovered); 1 blanket; and 2 texts.— ELIZABETH HANCOX, age about 45, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build, hair light, eyes weak, wooden left leg; dress, grey mixture coat, green skirt, blue motor cap. May be accompanied by her husband, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 ins., hair and moustache dark, eyes weak, may be wear- ing glasses; dress, dark suit. A labourer. May be found at common lodging houses, low furnished apartments or casual wards. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 22.— Gloucester ( County).— For stealing a quantity of gentleman's wearing apparel, and £ 14. — ANNIE COWNLEY, age 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion pale, hair light, eyes grey. A native of Worcester. Has been a domestic servant. Absconded 6th inst., dressed in male attire. Warrant issued. 23.- Gloucester ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences.— HENRY CUTHBERT, alias CHALMERS and SUTHER- LAND, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 11 ins. to 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair ( tinged with grey) dark brown, eyes blue; dress, green Norfolk suit, rubber collar, tweed cap, shoes, carries a stick. Supposed a native of Annan, Dumfriesshire. Is very talka- tive and invariably gets into touch with pheasant rearers and secretaries of farmers' associations with a view of introducing a pheasant food; also fond of conversing with railway officials. Stated he was employed as head gamekeeper on an earl's estate. Absconded 2nd inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. 24.— Staple Hill ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences at Filton, 20th December, 1912, a dark bay good- bred Spanish mare, 5 years, 14 hands 2 ins., hog mane, swish tail, white streak on forehead and down face, black points.— THOMAS BROWN, age about 45, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fresh, round red face, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes hazel, slouching gait, speaks slowly; dress, long fawn- colour over- coat, tweed suit, bowler hat, lace boots. Appear- ance of a farmer. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. HAMPSHIRE. 25.— Portsmouth ( Borough). — For stealing, 2nd ult., a silver cigarette case.- - LESLIE BERES- FORD, alias CHARLES BOLTON and VERNON HEATHCOATE, etc., Office No. 1959- 05, age 42, height 5 ft. 11^ ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaven, eyes blue; mili- tary bearing; well educated and very well spoken; dress, brown Norfolk jacket, dark trousers, cap, white muffler ( silk with floral design), shoes. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. 26.— Bromyard ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 13th inst., a " New Hudson Popular" bi- cycle, nearly new, No. 44211, black enamelled, lined, usual parts plated, upturned handle bars, pull- up brakes, rubber pedals, front mudguard slightly dented, Cambridge tyres, Lucas bell, tool- bag.— FRED BARTLEY, age about 39, height 5 ft. 9 to 10 ins., good build, complexion pale, hair dark, clean shaven, scar on forehead, coal marks back of hands; Welsh accent; of military appearance; dress, fawn- colour mackintosh, blue serge jacket, dark striped trousers, light cap, light lace boots. Carries a revolver. Stated he served in the South African War, also that he belonged to the Ordnance Survey Department and was tak- ing a plan of the district. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A. C." in centre; 1 9- ct. gold chain, about 3 feet long.— FRANK CLIFFORD BOND, age about 29, height 5 ft. 9 ins., slight build, com- plexion pale, broad forehead, hair dark brown, eyes blue, 2 front upper teeth prominent and much discoloured; dress, light grey Norfolk suit, dark tie, grey cap, brown boots. SI.— Tunbridge Wells ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 2 5s. 9Ad.; 2 boys' jerseys; 1 pair cord knickers; 2 pairs leggings; 2 boys' shirts; 2 men's do., and 1 pair of braces, by a worthless cheque, No. D. 86667, dated 4th January, 1913, on the National Provincial Bank of England, Savoy Court, 96 and 97, Strand, W. C.— C. NORRIS, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion sal- low, round plump face, hair and moustache dark; wearing light overcoat, soft felt hat. Be- lieved a native of Bolton. She calls upon house- holders, solicits orders for needles, oils, etc., ob- tains payment in advance, but fails to send the goods. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Keys, Old Trafford. 33 .- Old Traffnrd [ County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 10th inst., an overcoat ( recovered in pledge).— A MAN, age 35 or 36, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., round shoulders, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, several front teeth decayed; dress, brown Melton overcoat, dark grey jacket suit, shoes. Stated he was an electrical engineer and came from Hull. Information to Supt. Crossley, Old Trafford. 34.— Manchester [ City).— For obtaining a cheque for £ 9 3s. 6d. by false pretences, 12th February, 1912.— SAMUEL JACOBS, a Jew, age 45, height 5 ft. 8 ins., round shoulders, carries his head forward, complexion and hair dark, small moustache light, thin face, eyes dark brown, 4 large prominent upper front teeth; wearing dark clothes and Chesterfield overcoat. Prior to a few weeks ago he carried on business here as a grey cloth merchant. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. SUSSEX ( West.) 47.— Worthing ( County). — For stealing from a boarding- house, between 9th and 11th inst., a flexible fringe pearl drop necklace, graduating 46.— Brighton ( Borough).— For stealing a portmanteau containing 2 suits; 1 coat; 12 collars; 2 shirts; 2 vests; 5 pairs of cuffs; 10 pairs of socks; 6 fronts; 1 pair of roller skates; and 10s.— JAMES MOLLOY, alias MOLLEY. age 22. height 5 ft. 9 ins., slight build, erect bearing, hair light, inclined to curly, clean shaven. A kitchen porter; native of Liverpool. Has been employed at Hotels at Margate and Ventnor. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Brighton. PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT 36.— F Division .— For obtaining £ 25 by fraud, 17th February, 1912.— HARVEY SOLO- MON, alias CLIFTON and SEMLIN, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion sallow, hair black, clean shaven, may be wearing a moustache, eyes ( large; brown; appearance of a Jew; well dressed. Late of Gloucester Terrace, W. He represented that he was in possession of certain well- paying stocks and induced complainant tp partnership him. Warrant issued.
