GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SEEIES. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 1912. VOL. XXIX., No. 301G. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUE EDITOR OF THE POLICH GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 3. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if tlicy are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficii nt to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In ail casrs where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of ( is. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .4 remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such . person is required to be insetted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for. the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. THE EDITOR, New Scotland Yard, London, S. W. 13. 14. SPECIAL NOTICE. £ 100 REWARD. MURDER. 1.— Whereas at about 9.20 a. m. Sunday, 3rd November, 1912, Miss Jean Milne was found mur- dered in the hall of her house at Elmsgrove, Broughty Ferry. She resided alone and was of eccentric habits, having few friends or visitors, frequently left home for long periods, and went to London, sometimes without intimating her in- tention of doing so; it is believed she last visited London on 9th April, 1912, and remained away till 2nd August, 1912, on which occasion she stayed at an hetel in the Strand. Was last seen alive on or about 14th October, 1912. A considerable quantity of valuable jewellery and money were found in the house and on the deceased, but nothing appiears to have been dis- turbed. About 10.30 a. m., on a day in the first or second week in October, A MAN of the following de- scription was seen in the private grounds at the back of the house, age 30 to 40, height about 6 ft., well set up, handsome and of gentlemanly appear- ance; wearing an evening suit, no hat. About 4.30 a. m., Wednesday, 16th October, 1912, A MAN of the following description was seen leaving the grounds of the house, age 30 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., approximate weight between 11 and 12 stones, complexion very pale, sharp features, slight moustache light, carried his head erect, and swung his arms when walking; dress, dark over- coat ( reached a little below knees), dark trousers; of gentlemanly appearance. Information to the Chief Constable, BurgK Police, Broughty Ferry, by whom the above re- j ward will be paid to anyone giving such informa- J tion as shall lead to the apprehension and convic- j tion of the person or persons who committed the crime. ROW- LATT, alias ROBARTS, age 50, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache brown; dress, black morning coat and vest, dark grey striped trousers, bowler hat, lace boots. Believed a native of Hatfield, Herts. Warrant issued. 3.- C Division.— For obtaining £ 103 by false pretences.— CHARLES EDGERLEY, alias EDGLEY, age about 30, height 6 ft., stoops slightly, complexion fair, hair light; dress, dark grey overcoat, strap at back, dark trousers, green soft hat, bow at back, dark tie, fawn- colour spats, suede gloves, lace boots. Supposed a native of High Wycombe. Warrant issued. 4.— P Divisionm— For stealing a dark grey rough tweed overcoat, flap pockets, strap at back and on cuffs.— WILLIAM MAYHO, alias TAY- LOR and DIXSON, Office No. S. 119120, age 39, height 5 ft. 4£ ins., complexion fresh, hair dark ( slightly bald in front), eyes grey; wearing blue serge coat and vest, bowler hat. Has been con- victed in Cambridgeshire. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BEDFORDSHIRE. 7.— Bedford ( Borough).— For obtaining a cheque for £ 20 by false pretences, 8th inst.— H. G. BADDELEY, age 25 or 26, height 6 ft., slight build, clean shaved, prominent front teeth. Has been employed at a motor works as a fitter.—- EDITH BADDELEY, age about 22, height 5 ft. 4 ins.; has a child about 8 weeks' old. They ob- tained the cheque by disposing of furniture which had been obtained on the hire system. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bedford. CITY OF LONDON. 5.— For stealing, 28th ult., 7 Coney seal fur sets ; 7 do. ties.— FREDERICK BRONSON, age 21, height 5 ft. 7 ins., good build, complexion fair, hair light, clean shaven, • eyes blue; dress, grey jacket suit and cap, lace boots. A native of Lon- don. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 6.— For failing to report, — Licence- holder JAMES HARVEY, alias MELVILLE and MAC- LEAN, Office No. 1894- 08, age 30, height 5 ft. 0£ in., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, eyes blue; small scar left of head, mole left jaw. Sentenced at Central Criminal Court, 2nd Febru- ary, 1909, to 5 and 3 years' penal servitude ( con- current), for burglary, etc. Licensed 3rd April, 1912; j. 110. Information to Supt. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Reading ( Borough).— For stealing from his lodgings, 4th inst., a heavy grey overcoat, lined flannel, 2 side pockets, ticket pockets and 2 inside pockets, grey bone buttons, button straps on wrists, and strap at back; 1 black vest and trou- sers; 1 old- fashioned white metal coffee- pot; 1 silver jug, chased, " To Dear Maggie, from Uncle and Aunt Scott," thereon.— CHARLES CLARK- SON ( supposed false), age about 46, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion sallow, clean shaven; dress, blue jacket and vest, grey trousers, blue overcoat. He took lodgings at a restaurant, 1st inst., stated he had just returned from abroad and was on his way to Southampton. Had in his possession a brown tin trunk with a label on top, " Las Palmas," thereon. Absconded on the 4th inst., carrying the tin trunk containing the stolen property. He left behind a bundle of letters which had been sealed with black sealing- wax and addressed to " J. F. Groom, Esq., 12, Abchurch Lane, King William Street, London," the dates of which vary from 1830 to 1885. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. Was ac- companied by a woman ( not wanted), age 33, height 5 ft. 7i ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes bluish grey; 2 front upper teeth mis- sing; dress, fawnish green costume, green straw hat, shoes with patent leather toes; had with her an old black trunk and brown square tin box; and a girl, age hair light brown ( 2 long curls); dress, blue frock, blue coat with red cuffs and collar. JAMES, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build, com- clean shaven, peculiar deformity of right hand, plexion sallow, bloated, hair ( very long) black, scar right wrist, Yorkshire accent; wears glasses; dress, black jacket and vest, dark trousers and cap, white cuff worn as a front, no shirt, old boots ; appearance of an actor or musician. Stated he was a native of Sheffield. Represented that he was agent for a firm of photograph enlargers, Stock- port. Plays the piano in public- houses. Warrant issued. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 17.— Dumfries [ County). - For stealing, 10th and 15th ult., respectively, an " Elswick " bicycle, No. 48631, green enamelled, 25- in. frame, raised handle bars, Brooks saddle, rat trap pedals, roller brakes, 26- in. wheels, Warwick tyres; an " Ariel" roadster bicycle, 26- in. truss frame, Brooks B. 55 saddle, coaster hub, rubber pedals, Michelin back tyre, Palmer front do., V- shaped tool- bag under saddle, 26- in. wheels, aluminium rims, upturned handle- bars.— JAMES FRANCIS BAKER, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion sal- low, hair ( thick and long) black, 2 front upper teeth stopped with gold, Scotch accent; dress, light grey shooting jacket, dark grey trousers, soft felt hat, shoes. Supposed a native of Musgrave, West- morland. Accompanied by his wife ( not wanted), medium ^ height and build, complexion fresh, hair brown; dress, fawn- colour costume, straw hat with blue ribbon. DURHAM. 18.— Stockton- on- Tees ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, 7ih inst., a bay mare, 6 years, 14 hands 1 or 2 ins., clipped ( except legs), short tail, supposed patch of white hair on one ankle; a set of black harness with nickel mounts, imitation house's head on blinkers; and a Durham car, black body, underwork yellow; 1 lamp; 1 red check woollen rug. initials " W. C." thereon; and a whalebone whip, " Alf Coleman " thereon. HARD Y, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 ins., stout build, complexion and hair dark, clean shaven, Yorkshire accent; dress, dark jacket suit, cap and overcoat. Represented himself as a com- mercial traveller and that he was going to work the district for about a month. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. James, Stockton- on- Tees. DORSETSHIRE. 15.— Poole ( County).— For obtaining an over- coat and suit of clothes by false pretences.— GEORGE COSON, alias ROBERTS and CROW- SON, Office No. 1171- 09, age 30, height 5 ft. 9£ ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue. A native of Stamford, Lines. Has been employed as a stableman. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Brown, Poole. 16— Wareham ( County1.— For larceny.— JOSEPH CHARLES DARE, age about 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, round face, hair brown, moustache light brown, teyes blue, small mole or wart left cheek, tattooed both arms; dress, blue suit, brown cap, lace boots. A cook. She called upon a lady, gave false references, and stated that she had been sent from a registry office in an adjacent town. Upon being engaged as a cook she obtained 3s. for her railway fare home . until she commenced her duties. Has been convicted at Birmingham, Rushall, Marlborough, Oxford, etc. Warrant issued. Abel, Gosport. is — Portsmouth ( Borough). — For obtaining a suit of clothes by false pretences.— GEORGE SALTER, alias KNAPP, aFe 33, height about 5 ft. 6 ins.^ complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaven, eyes brown; dress, blue serge suit, bowler hat, brown leggings, fawn- colour mackintosh. A tailor's and draper's traveller. May have with him a New Hudson bicycle, sloping frame, black en- amelled, lined red, rubber pedals, New Hudson tyres, Lycett saddle, 26- in. wheels, inverted lever brakes. May be found in the North of England. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HERTFORDSHIRE. 24.— Hitchfn ( County).— For obtaining a fowl, 6 rabbits, and £ 6 bv a worthless cheque, 16th inst. WALTER F. ROWLATT, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown : dress, dark suit, brown spats, heavy light brown overcoat, black bowler hat. A native of Hatfield. Warrant issued. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. io.— stanground ( County).— For stealing at Elton, 6th inst., 2 steers ( recovered).— A MAN, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion fair, thin face, hair dark, clean shaven; dress, blue serge suit, dark grey mixture cap, fawn- colour mackintosh, brown shoes. Was carry- ing an umbrella- stick, handle missing, silver mount. Information to Supt. Wilson, Stanground, Peter- borough. ISLE OF ELY. 26.— March ( County).— For stealing a bicycle, black enamelled, lined red and gold, enamel rather chipped, 28- in. wheels, centre of rims and edges enamelled, lj- in. Dunlop tyres, forward and up- ward bent handle bars, front brake, Eadie Coaster hub, rubber pedals, D- sliaped forks, back and chain stays, 3- coil spring saddle, transfer on head, " The Ideal, Coy & Sons, March." ROBERT COOPER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion pale, hair light brown, moustache ginger; dress, blue pilot coat, brown cord trousers, short black leather leggings, hard hat or light check cap, supposed Army boots. Believed a native of Norwich. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Bunn, March.
