All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF TUB POLICB GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. • S. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. f>. Port raits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inst rted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of jag. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .4. remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 0. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be. guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for. the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. BOTSMAN, alias WATTS, etc., Case 5, 20th September, 1912, has been identified as WILLIAM DAVIES, alias JEROME, Office No. 1940- 10. 3.- K Division.- For obtaining £ 4 12s 6d. by a seaman's bogus advance note, 12th ult.— THOMAS COSTA, age 30, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fresh, hair light, clean shaven, eyes blue; dress, brown suit, soft felt or bowler hat. A seaman; native of Ilford, Essex. Warrant issued. 4. Y Division. — For stealing, 27th Septem- ber last, a blue plaid suit; 1 keyless oxidised watch ; 1 small curb pattern silver chain; 1 green and red silk handkerchief; 1 natural wool undervest; 1 green and blue striped Oxford shirt; 1 pair lace boots, size 7; 8 towels ( 6 red check, 2 white).— CHARLES HENRY HALL, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( slight cast in both) blue ; may be wearing the stolen clothing. A bargeman ; native of Aston, Birmingham. Warrant issued. 5.— W Division.— For indecent assault.— WILLIAM MORTON, Office No. 2000- 06 ( see Il- lustrated Circular 102, Fig. 22), age 36, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown; of good address; dress, black overcoat ( silk facings), dark jacket suit, white double collar, dark tie, bowler hat, lace boots. Poses as an Army or Navy lieutenant or doctor, and is fond of women. May be found at seaside resorts on the South coast." Native of Caithness. Warrant issued. MAIDMENT, age 21, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( curly) ginger, eyes blue, feminine appearance; dress, light Harris ( long cut) tweed jacket suit, mauve tie, hard felt hat or cap. BERKSHIRE. 7.— Windsor { Borouqh).— For obtaining £ 39 6s. 4d. by false pretences, 7th ult.— A MAN, age about 25, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, clean shaven; wearing dark clothes and bowler hat. Warrant issued Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor. CA MBRIDCESHIRE. H.— Cambridge ( Borough.).- For attempting to obtain a horse by a worthless cheque, 6th ult., — W. H. THURSTON ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., hair and moustache dark, left leg straight, club foot, turns toes in- wards; dress, dark suit and overcoat, hard felt hat, heavy gold watch chain.— ERNEST LORD, age 35 or 36, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., clean shaven, wearing brown mackintosh, black bowler hat. They purchased a horse, and in payment tendered a cheque on the London & Provincial Bank, Ltd., New Cross Gate Branch, the cheque was worthless, having been taken from a book stolen 8th Febru- ary last in London. The second described is be- lieved to have been previously convicted. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 9.— Crewe [ County).— For ^ stealing £ 14 2s. 8d.— WILLIAM SPIERIF NASH, age 38, height about 6 ft. 2 ins., good build, complexion fresh, square jaws, hair and moustache dark, eyes brown, of military appearance; dress, blue serge suit, hard hat, lace boots. Believed a native of London. Was employed as doorkeeper at a cinematograph theatre. Absconded 22nd ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 10.— Birkenhead ( Borough).— For unlaw- fully and wilfully making a . false entry in a work book about 16th July last.— PHILLIP E. NICK- LIN, age 23, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., slight build, hair and eyes brown; dress, usually blue serge suit. Was employed as a shipbuilder's clerk. Native of Wallasey, Cheshire. May endeavour to enlist, or leave the country. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Birkenhead. DENBIGHSHIRE. 11— Wrexham ( CountyV— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered).— JOSEPH HOLMES, age 40, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; may be wearing breeches and leggings. A farm hand, but may be employed as carter with town contractors. Warrant issued. 12.— Wrexham ( CountyV— For obtaining goods by false pretences.— HARRY CLARK ( sup- posed false), age 30, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., hair dark brown, eyes ( prominent) dark, good teeth; dress, grey jacket suit, overcoat and cap, buttoned boots. Had a smart high- class bicycle, green en- amelled. He took apartments for himself and a fellow servant, stating they were in the employ of a gentleman who had taken a hunting box in the neighbourhood. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Wrexham. DERBYSHIRE. 13.— Derby ' County).— For embezzling £ 600 at Long Eaton, 5th ult.— WILFRED GEORGE FROST, alias BADROCK, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fair, hair very light, eyes grey or brown, of youthful appearance, takes short quick steps, speaks in an authoritative manner; dress, grey jacket suit, grey cap, gold curb albert, silver watch, lace boots, dark three- quarter length overcoat; had with him a dark grey jacket suit and kit bag. A cashier; native of Newton Heath. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Richardson, County Police, Derby. ESSEX. 14 — Colchester ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings a gold double curb albert chain, small square gold locket as pendant; 1 lady's silver watch, metal sovereign- case and match- box at- tached- WILSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, mous- tache ginger, eyes blue, irregular teeth, wears pince- nez when reading; dress, dark blue jacket and vest with light stripes, dark blue trousers with wide light stripes, fawn- colour rainproof overcoat, grey cap; wore a gold double albert with blue 4 T H E POLICE GAZETTE. Southend ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 29th ult., a new black plush full- length coat, 2 large braided fasteners in front; 1 new blue Melton Raglan overcoat, usual flap pockets; 1 fancy blue serge jacket; 1 9- ct. gold chain, 9- ct. gold locket, containing photograph of a baby attached; 1 lady's 18- ct. gold dress ring, set 2 diamonds and sapphire in centre; 1 do. gold gipsy ring, set diamond; 1 very thin wedding ring, 9- ct. heart with initials " A. R." thereon af- fixed ; 1 lady's silver watch, flowered dial, Roman figures, in celluloid case; 1 pair lady's patent leather golosh boots, size 5, " E. E. E. E." stamped inside.— TIIOMAS DUNN, age 38, height 6 ft., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, very thick eyebrows, eyes dark blue, addicted to drink; dress, dark grey mixture suit, greenish tweed cap, blue jersey, brown boots. An upholsterer; native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marden, Southend. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 16.— Cardiff ( City).— Referring to ETHEL SUMNER, Case No. 16, 18th ult., the man with whom she was believed to be accompanied has re- turned to Cardiff. 17 — Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences.— ALEC IYANHOE, age about 45. height 5 ft. b or 7 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache ginger; dress, dark suit, light cap. A ship's donkeyinan, native of Russia. He calls upon tradesmen, represents that he has just left a vessel at a neighbouring port and that his money is being sent on by the Board of Trade. Warrant issued. 18.— Cardiff ( City).- For shopbreaking, 9th September, and stealing property described in Case 57, 13th September last.— ARTHUR ARMSTEAD, age 27, height 5 ft. 6£ ins., . complexion fresh, oval face, hair dark brown, « yes blue; dress, dark suit, green overcoat, brown soft felt hat, initials " J. A." in ink inside. On 19th August last he was sentenced to 14 days' im- prisonment for refractory conduct at Newcastle Emlyn. A labourer; native of Merthyr. Warrant issued. 19.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences.— J. MORGAN ( believed false) age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion and hair dark, thin features, rather prominent teeth ; wearing brown threequarter length coat, small black straw hat trimmed black satin. A tea dealer's canvasser. She called upon complainant 10th inst., and informed her that her bonus of £ 3 would be due 12th ult., provided she purchased 40 packets of tea; obtained 10s. and gave a receipt for £ 1 in name of J. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 20.— Cheltenham ( County).— For stealing, 21st ult., a topcoat.— WILLIAM SANTEFORD COX, alias JAMES, Office No. 2230- 01, age 31, height 5 ft. 6| ins., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes blue, blue dot right and 3 dots left forearm, pockmark on forehead; dress, dark grey suit, black bowler hat, lace boots. A clerk or canvasser; native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. HAMPSHIRE. 21.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th ult., a Naval uniform peak cap; 1 mackin- tosh coat; 1 silver watch and chain; 1 gold- plated match- box; 1 gold pin; and £ 10.— KATE LEACH, alias KITTY CASSELL, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build, complexion fair, hair light; may be wearing blue costume, grey jacket, black hat. A prostitute.— CHARLES EVANS, dlias WEST, age about 35, height about 6 ft., powerful build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, may now be clean shaven, cast in one eye; may be wearing a greyish jacket and the stolen cap. Absconded 13th ult., for London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. KENT. 22— Ashford ( County).— For stealing. 23rd September, a tremelo mandoline piano organ, No. 1947 on keyboard.— LEONARD LAMBERT, age about 27, height 6 ft., complexion, hair and eyes dark, clean shaven; dress, dark jacket and vest, blue serge trousers, cap. Believed a native of East- bourne. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Ashford. 23.— Chatham ( County).— For embezzlement. — HARRY WILLIAM SIDDERS, alias ROBERT HENRY SHILLING, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 ins<, complexion ruddy, hair dark brown, eyes grey, high cheek bones, of military appear- ance; dress, brown jacket and trousers, blue vest with light stripes, green cap, lace boots. Was a butcher in the Royal Engineers at Aldershot. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rhodes, Chatham. 21.— Canterbury ( City).— For leaving his children chargeable to the Canterbury Union, since 24th September last.— JAMES DAWKINS, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown; dress, brown mixture jacket suit, dark brown cap. A labourer; may be found working on farms or with threshing machines. Had with him a bicycle. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Canterbury. LANCASHIRE. 25,— Garstang ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences at Fulwood Barracks, 11th ult. — F. HEATH, alias WILLIAMS, age about 38, height 5 ft. 10 ins., broad build, rather large bold face, prominent nose, moustache light, teeth dis- coloured, going bald; wearing khaki uniform with 11th Hussars on epaulettes, crown and 3 stripes on arm, spurs. He called at the Depot office of the Royal Field Artillery, stated he had brought a lunatic from the Cavalry Depot, Dublin, and had handed him over to the authorities at Ful- wood, and obtained the above amount to defray expenses. Is also wanted for a similar offence at Ashton- under- Lyne. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jackson, Garstang. 26 — PreSOOt ( County).— For stealing £ 28. - JOHN WILLIAM PERRYMAN, age 29, height 5 ft. 6| ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, clean shaven, eyes brown; dress, blue serge suit, cap; may be wearing brown tweed suit. A native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McLean, Prescot. 27.— Manchester ( City).— For stealing ( bailee), 2nd ult., a lady's 18- ct. gold ring, new, set 3 diamonds.— ABRAHAM ROBINSON, alias GISEMAN, GUISEMAN and GEISTMAN, a Jew, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion dark, large nose, hair ( wavy or curlyl dark, clean shaven, wearing light overcoat, green soft felt hat, brown boots. Had with him a large travelling trunk tied with cord, new brown leather bag, a suit case and hat- box. A cap designer; native of Warsaw. Speaks English fluently, also German, French, Russian and Polish. May en- deavour to leave the country. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 28.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For stealing overcoats ( in conjunction with Alfred Smith, in custody).— JOSEPH CARNEY, age 35, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, 2 cut scars on forehead, one on nose. A hawker. Has been previously convicted. Photo- graph can be seen on application. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. 29.— Lancaster ( Borough).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 16th ult.— J. ARM- STRONG, age about 32, height 5 ft. 7 ins., com- plexion fresh, heavy moustache waxed at ends, eyes greenish grey, of smart appearance; dress, dark blue suit, bowler hat, kid gloves; wore a double gold- colour watch- chain and gold ring with shield. He obtained a Royal Liver Society's col- lecting book, then induced persons to give him ' money on the pretence that he was an inspector of the Society and that a new system of money drawings had started. Is accompanied by his wife ( not wanted), tall, and pregnant. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Lancaster. LEIGES TERSHIRE. SO.— Loughborough ( County).— For ob- taining £ 4 by a forged and altered Post Office money order.- FELLOWS, alias PRICE, CLARKE- KING, etc., Office No. 2781- 01 ( see Case 43, 25th ult., and Illustrated Circular 77, Fig. 12); now dressed in a dark suit and bowler hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Agar, Loughborough. NORFOLK. 31.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 23rd ult., a lady's gold neck- chain, sup- posed 9- ct., about 3 ft. long; 1 do. small gold key- less watch, back case defective, closes badly, minus winding knob; 1 pair of Jubilee half- sovereign ear- rings; 1 pair of gold small knob- shape earrings; 1 gold earring, shamrock leaf shape; 1 yellow metal brooch, about 2 ins. long, £ in. wide, set brilliants; 1 gold necklet, supposed 9- ct. small plain gold cross attached; and ( 4 rings recovered in pledge).— S. E. BONDS ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaven, may be growing a moustache; speaks with a London accent; dress, blue jacket and trou- sers, fancy grey vest, green stripe and bound with green braid on edges; flannel stripe double collar, spotted tie, green soft felt hat; probably wearing a greenish grey blanket cloth overcoat of stylish pattern with a slit at back and guntlet cuffs, may be wearing spectacles and have with him a bicycle, 23- in. black enamelled frame, 28- in. wheels, black rims, Hermetic tyre on rear, New Clipper on front, upturned handle bars, walnut- coloured grips, front rim Crabbe brake, press- down lever, head- clip stamped " 6 " in three of four places, rear mud- guard black, front mudguard gold lined, " En- field " transfer thereon. SI.— Cannock ( County).— For obtaining 8s. 9d. by false pretences.— JOHN HAY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair light sandy, moustache ( heavy) sandy, eyes ( small piercing) blue; has several artificial teeth upper jaw; dress, blue coat, vest and trousers, lace boots, size 10 or 11, bowler hat, blue tie. Has a brown papier- mache box bag, containing dental instru- ments. A dental canvasser. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Campbell, Cannock. SURREY. 33.— Chertsey ( County).— For failing to sur- render to his bail, 15th ult., on a charge of in- decent assault.— GEORGE SHEPHERD, ^ ge 41 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair ( nearly white on top) dark, moustache black, eyes grey, rather broad forehead, furrow centre of chin. A jobbing gardener; is also an ardent angler. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mears, Chertsey. 34.— Woking ( County).— For obtaining a costume and jersey by false pretences.— NURSE CARTWRIGHT MORGAN, alias WALLACE, age about 35, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion fair, several artificial teeth in upper jaw, pleasant man- ner; wearing a light ulster of blanket material, litht fancy straw hat. She answers advertisements offering clothes for sale, uses letter call offices for the reception of parcels, etc. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Marks, Woking. SUSSEX ( West.) 35.— Arundel ( County).— For obtaining £ 10 by worthless cheques— J. E. COOKE, Office No. 2603- 01 ( for description, etc., see Cases No. 1, 30th August, 1912; 21, 18th, and 32, 25th ult., and Illustrated Circular 64, Fig. 21). In this in- stance the cheques used were numbered 178/ B- 27232 and 27233, on the Balsall Heath, Birmina- ham Branch of the London City & Midland Bank, Ltd., and signed J. E. Cooke. Warrant issued. WARWICKSHIRE. 36- Shipston- on- Stour ( Cavnty).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle.— GEORGE STROUD, alias BUSH, COLLETTE and CAR- TER, Office No. 544- 12 ( see Tabular Form, 23rd August, 1912), age 35, height 5 ft. 7£ ins., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, scar left eyebrow, inner left thumb, 2 hairy moles left cheek, 2 under right jaw. Native of Twyford. May seek employment upon a farm. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hawkes, Shipston- on- Stour. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 37.— Hull ( City\— For ' stealing a heavy cart horse ( recovered).— WILFRID CHARLTON, age 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark brown, hare top lip, scald scar right side of head, both arms have been broken, one slightly deformed; dress, dark suit, cap, muf- fler, lace boots, much worn.
