All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, it they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of ( 3s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .4. remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for, the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. JOHN CROCKER, Office No. S. 154748, age 20, height 5 ft. 4J ins., com- plexion dark, hair dark brown, eyes brown. Sen- tenced Middlesex Sessions, 6th August, 1910, to 2 years' detention in a Borstal Institution for larceny; released on licence lst August, 1912, to the care of the Borstal Association, and was found employment at Leicester, but he absconded Sth inst. Crocker's parents have removed from London and cannot now be traced. If arrested a telegram or telephonic communication should be sent to the Governor, Pentonville Prison, who will send an escort for him. Licence expires 5th February, 1913, after which date he must not be arrested. 2.— Convict Supervision Office.— Licence revoked for failing to comnly with the conditions of same.— FREDERICK CONSTABLE, Office No. S. 120,827, age 19 height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey ; scar over left eyebrow, woman tattooed right forearm, anchor left forearm. Sentenced Birmingham Ses- sions, 23rd January, 1911, to 2 years' detention in a Borstal Institution for larceny. Released on licence 15th July, 1912, to the care of the Borstal Association, and he was found employment in Lon- don, but was discharged owing to his indifferent conduct, and disappeared 12th inst. If arrested a telegram or telephonic communication should be sent to the Governor, Pentonville Prison, who will send an escort for him. Not to be arrested after 22nd July, 1913, on which date his licence expires. 3 — J Division.— For embezzling £ 30 5s. 9d. MONTAGUE, age 55, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, round face, hair ( thin on top) light, moustache ginger, swaggering gait; dress, navy blue jacket suit, bowler hat. Late of Bristol Gardens, Maida Vale. Warrant issued. 4.— K Division.— For embezzling £ 1 Is. lid., 28th ult,— THOMAS MEADOWS, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build complexion pale, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes brown, walks quickly, swinging gait: dress, blue serge suit, brown cap, lace boots. A native of Canning Town. G. — V Division.— For embezzling £ 11, 14th August last.— WILLIAM CHEESEMAN, age 50, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion ruddy, hair grey, scar one inch long right side of mouth, rather near sighted, wears gold- rimmed glasses; dress, dark jacket suit, bowler hat, lace boots. A tax collector; native of London. Warrant issued. 7.— V Division.— For stealing £ A0 cash, entrusted to him as relieving officer by Board of Guarians to pay to recipients of outdoor relief.— WILLIAM ALEXANDER ROBERTS, age 33, height 5 ft. 7 ins., slight build, complexion dark, thin face, hair and moustache dark brown ( may now be clean shaven), eyes brown, thick lower lip; dress, dark grey tweed suit, black hard felt hat, blue socks, lace boots. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 9.— Cambridge ( Borough).- For attempting to obtain a horse by a worthless cheque, 6th inst. — W. H. THURSTON ( supposed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., hair and moustache dark, left leg straight, club foot, turns toes in- wards ; dress, dark suit and overcoat, hard felt hat, heavy gold watch chain.— ERNEST LORD, age 35 or 36, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., clean shaven, wearing brown mackintosh, black bowler hat. They purchased a horse, and in payment tendered a cheque on the London & Provincial Bank, Ltd., New Cross Gate Branch, the cheque was worthless, having been taken from a book stolen 8th Febru- ary last in London. The second described is be- lieved to have been previously convicted. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Cambridge. CHESHIRE. 10.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing .£ 14 2s. 8d— WILLIAM SHERIF NASH, age 38, height about 6 ft. 2 ins., good build, complexion fresh, square jaws, hair and moustache dark, eyes brown, of military appearance; dress, blue serge suit, hard hat, lace boots. Believed a native of London. Was employed as doorkeeper at a cinematograph theatre. Absconded 22nd inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. DERBYSHIRE. 11.— Alfreton ( County).— For failing to notify change of residence.— WILLIAM FOSTER, alias BRADLEY, Office No. 2112- 04, age 29, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue; scar left cheek and nose. Sentenced at Northallerton Quarter Sessions. 7th April, 1910, to 3 years' penal servitude for larceny. Licensed lst July, 1912. k. 170. Information to Supt. Fennell, Alfreton. 12.— Derby { County). — For embezzling .£ 600 at Long Eaton, 5th inst.— WILFRED GEORGE FROST, alias BADROCK, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., compTexTon fair, hair very light, eyes grey or brown, of youthful appearance, takes short quick steps, speaks in an authoritative manner; dress, grey jacket suit, grey cap, gold curb albert, silver watch, lace boots, dark three- quarter length overcoat; had with him a dark grey jacket suit and kit bag. A cashier; native of Newton Heath. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Richardson, County Police, Derby. ESSEX. 13.— Colchester ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings a gold double curb albert chain, small square gold locket as pendant; 1 lady's silver watch, metal sovereign- case and match- box at- tached. WILSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair brawn, mous- tache ginger, eyes blue, irregular teeth, wears pince- nez when reading; dress, dark blue jacket and vest with light stripes, dark blue trousers with wide light stripes, fawn- colour rainproof overcoat, grey cap; wore a gold double albert with blue enamelled gold locket attached, plain gold ring on left little finger and a lady's ring, set blue stone, on right little finger. Marden, Southend. 15.— Colchester ( Borough).— For stealing between 18th and 23rd ult., from a dwelling house, an oil painting ( attributed to Constable) of a rural scene, meadow, sheep grazing in background, and believed to have figures of two or three per- sons and an agricultural implement thereon.— HENRY LEWIS, alias ELLISON, Office No. 626- 12 ( see Illustrated Circular 105, Fig. 31), age 35, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion swarthy, hair black, eyes brown. IS.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences.— ALEC IVANHOE, age about 45. height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, moustache ginger; dress, dark suit, light cap. A ship's donkeyman, native of Russia. He calls upon tradesmen, represents that he has just left a vessel at a neighbouring port and that liis money is being sent on by the Board of Trade. Warrant issued. 17.— Cardiff ( City).— For housebreaking.— EDWARD JOHN GILLIGAN, Office No. S. 105614, age 25, height 4 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair brown ( thin) eyes grey, long scar left side of forehead and between eyebrows; dress, dirty dark clothing, dark muffler, light cap, and MARY MILLER, age 20, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 ins., slight build, complexion and hair dark, thin face; dress, dark coat and skirt, blue motor cap. Warrant issued. 18.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences.— J. MORGAN ( believed false) age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion and hair dark, thin features, rather prominent teeth ; wearing brown threequarter length coat, small black straw hat trimmed black satin. A tea dealer's canvasser. She called upon complainant 10th inst., and informed her that her bonus of £ 3 would be due 12th inst., provided she purchased 40 packets of tea; obtained 10s. and gave a receipt for £ 1 in name of J. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 19.— Bristol ( City).— PHILIP TREVENA, described in Case 19, 18th inst., has been identified as GEORGE GLOYN, Office No. 2053- 08, age 32, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar right eyebrow, left of forehead, tattooed " 59" back of right forearm, " H. T." back left forearm. A groom; native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 20.— Gospr* rt County).— For false pretences, 6th ult.— LOURD FRANK NEWIS, age 18J, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey. A painter; native of Christchurch, Hants. Is now a deserter from the Royal Naval Hospital, Haslar, where he was employed as sick- berth attendant. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Abel, Gosport. 21.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing, 13th inst., a Naval uniform peak cap; 1 mackin- tosh coat; 1 silver watch and chain; 1 gold- plated match- box; 1 gold pin; and £ 10.— KATE LEACH, alias KITTY CASSELL, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build, complexion fair, hair light; may be wearing blue costume, grey jacket, black hat. A prostitute.— CHARLES EVANS, cilias WEST, age about 35, height about 6 ft., powerful build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache dark, may now be . clean shaven, cast in one eye; may be wearing a greyish jacket and the stolen cap. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Garstantf ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences at Fulwood Barracks, 11th inst. — F. HEATH, alios WILLIAMS, age about 38, height 5 ft. 10 ins., broad build, rather large bold face, prominent nose, moustache light, teeth dis- coloured, going bald; wearing khaki uniform with 11th Hussars on epaulettes, crown and 3 stripes on arm, spurs. He called at the Depot office of the Royal Field Artillery, stated he had brought a lunatic from the Cavalry Depot, Dublin, and had handed him over to the authorities at Ful- wood, and obtained the above amount to defray expenses. Is also wanted for a similar offence at Ashton- under- Lyne. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jackson, Garstang. 23.— Prescot ( County).— For stealing £ 28.— JOHN WILLIAM FERRYMAN, age 29, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, clean shaven, eyes brown; dress, blue serge suit, cap; may be wearing brown tweed suit. A native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McLean, Prescot. 24.— Manchester ( City).— For embezzling £ 1 2s., 5th inst., and stealing a small brown leather bag containing 8 pairs of dentist's forceps, and other surgical instruments, between 12th and 14th inst.— WILLIAM JARVIS, age 26, height 5 ft. 9 ins., high cheek bones, cheeks sunken, hair and drooping moustache dark, of smart appearance; dress, blue serge suit, bowler hat, brown boots. A dentist's canvasser; native of Dublin. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 25.— Blackpool ( Borough).— For stealing overcoats ( in conjunction with Alfred Smith, in custody).— JOSEPH CARNEY, age 35, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes hazel, 2 cut scars on forehead, one on nose. A hawker. Has been previously convicted. Photo- graph can be seen on application. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. 26.— Lancaster ( Borouoh).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 16th inst.— J. ARM- STRONG, age about 32, height 5 ft. 7 ins., com- plexion fresb, heavy moustache waxed at ends, eyes greenish grey, of smart appearance; dress, dark blue suit, bowler hat, kid gloves; wore a double gold- colour watch- chain and gold ring with shield. He obtained a Royal Liver Society's col- lecting book, then induced persons to give him money on the pretence that he was an inspector of the Society and that a new system of money drawings had started. Is accompanied by his wife ( not wanted), tall, and pregnant. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Lancaster. NORFOLK. 27.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 23rd inst., a lady's gold neck- chain, sup- posed 9- ct., about 3 ft. long; 1 do. small gold key- less watch, back case defective, closes badly, minus winding knob; 1 pair of Jubilee half- sovereign ear- rings ; 1 pair of gold small knob- shape earrings; 1 gold earring, shamrock leaf shape; 1 yellow metal brooch, about 2 ins. long, i in. wide, set brilliants; 1 gold necklet, supposed 9- ct. small plain gold cross attached; and ( 4 rings recovered in pledge).— S. E. BONDS ( supposed false), age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaven, may be growing a moustache; speaks with a London accent; dress, blue jacket and trou- sers, fancy grey vest, green stripe and bound with green braid on edges; flannel stripe double collar, spotted tie, green soft felt hat; probably wearing a greenish grey blanket cloth overcoat of stylish pattern with a slit at back and guntlet cuffs, may be wearing spectacles and have with him a bicycle, 23- in. black enamelled frame, 28- in. wheels, black rims, Hermetic tyre on rear, New Clipper on front, upturned handle bars, walnut- coloured grips, front rim Crabbe brake, press- down lever, head- clip stamped " 6 " in three of four places, rear mud- guard black, front mudguard gold lined, " En- field " transfer thereon. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Norwich. OXFORDSHIRE. 28.— Woodstock ( County).— For obtaining a banker's cheque for £ 2, 8th inst.— W. CAMP- BELL ( supposed false), age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., hair ( bald on top) dark, eyes ( small) brown, flushed face; dress, blue serge suit, much worn, celluloid collar and cuffs, black bowler hat. Represents himself as agent for a tea company in London. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Snelgrove, Woodstock. SHROPSHIRE. 29.— Wellington ( County).— For stealing, 15th inst., a lady's dress basket.— ARTHUR DURSLEY, age 33, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., com- plexion pale, hair and eyes dark, clean shaven, front upper teeth prominent, very bow legged, turns his toes inwards; dress, black suit dark cap. An iron moulder; native of Lincoln. Is accom- panied by a womn ( not wanted), age 35, height 5 ft. 6 ins., stout build; wearing black clothes. A native of St. George's, Shropshire. Absconded 15th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Fulcher, Wellington. STAFFORDSHIRE. 30 — Stafford ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 17, 14th inst.— GEORGE WILCOX, age 22, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes grey; dress, dark mixed tweed coat, dark trousers, brown tie, grey cap. A native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Spendlove, Stafford. 31 .— Stafford ( County).— For stealing a banker's cheque for £ 181 lis. 9d., 21st inst.— VICTOR JAMES JONES, age 17, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown; dress, dark grey mixture suit, dark overcoat, dark tie, bowler hat, shoes. A bank clerk; native of King's Norton, Birmingham. Had with him a brown leather portmanteaux, initials C. P. L. on side, containing wearing apparel, and believed to have four other stolen cheques for £ 8, £ 8 lis., £ 5 5s., and £ 15 respectively, on the United Coun- ties and Manchester and Liverpool Banks; also postal- orders value £ 1 3s. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Stafford. 32.— Wolverhampton ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 5 by a worthless cheque, on the London 6 Provincial Bank, Ltd., Wood Green Branch, 5th inst.— J. E. COOK ( supposed false), age about 50, height 5 ft. 11 ins., slight build, complexion sal- low, long nose and face, hair ( turning grey) brown, clean shaven, one left upper tooth projects, of good address, walks erect; dress, fawn- colour Ches- terfield overcoat, dark jacket suit, green soft felt hat, black tie, oval silver ring thereon. He com- municated with the head mistress of a ladies' school, stated he wished to send his daughter to the school for one year, paid a fee of £ 4( 5 by a worthless cheque, obtained a letter of introduction from the mistress to an outfitter, presented a cheque for £ 15 to the latter to take a deposit of £ 10 for an outfit and received £ 5 balance. SURREY. 33.— Dorking ( County).— For obtaining by » worthless cheque at Ashtead, 7th inst., a very dark brown mare pony, aged, 13 hands, thick set, " S" stamped on right side, hole cut in left ear, slightly pin toes in front; a yellow varnished governess car with rubber tyres, and a set of harness.— E. LEE, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, supposed rash around mouth; wearing grey or fawn- colour over- coat, black bowler hat. He answered an advertise- ment, purchased the above property and in pay- ment tendered a cheque, drawn on the London & South Western Bank, Ltd., Charlton Branch, 27, Church Lane, London, No. A. 53111, signed E. Lee. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Coleman Dorking. SUSSEX ( West). 34.— Petworth ( County).— For failing to surrender to her bail, charged with stealing £ 7.— NELLIE REEVES BOXALL, age 16 ( looksmuch older), height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fair, broad features, hair light, eyes blue, 3 small scars back of left hand; dress, blue and black striped skirt, green coat, double breasted, dark toque, shoes. A domestic servant; was seen at Waterloo Station, London, on night of 16th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Webling, Petworth. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 35.— Thornaby- on- Tees ( County).—¥ or stealing a watch ( recovered).— WILLIAM MAR- SHALL, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion, hair, and moustache dark, fleshy lump left eyelid; had with him a small leather handbag, containing watchmaker's tools.— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fair, hair and moustache brown, wears steel- rimmed pince- nez, or gold- rimmed spectacles. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 36.— B r a d f o r d ( City).— FV forgerv.— WILLIAM HENRY " BENNETT, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion sallow, broad features, hair ( thin on top) and eyes brown, rather heavy moustache dark, slightly knock- kneed, shuffling gait, throws feet outwards when walking; dress, TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1912.
