I GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SEIUES. FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 1912. VOL. XXIX., No. 2986. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TIIK EDITOB OF TUB POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one. iuite, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will he inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 41. Mvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8, 9. 10. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The forcc which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZKTTB, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the nuitiber of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be tn advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, bp Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted will be given on application. AU copies of the POLICB GAKBTTB re- transmitted by Police Forces should bo prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. UNDER the existing arrangements; the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( a) All persons coming within Sections 5, 7, or 8, of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one months impris- onment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one months imprisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. Entering with intent to commit a felony. Extortion by threats. Felonious wounding. Forgery. Fraud. Frequenting. Horse stealing. Housebreaking. Possessing housebreaking tools. Procuration of women and girls. Prostitution, living on proceeds of ( Vagrancy Act, 1898, Sec 1, para. a). Receiving. Robbery. Sacrilege. Sheep stealing. Shopbreaking. Suspected person. Unlawful possession. Uttering counterfeit coin. Warehousebreaking. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been previously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or convictions if possible, also the number published in the List of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. METROPOLSTA N POLICE DIS TRIG T 1.— A Division.— For stealing £ 1 19s. 10d., monies of the Westminster City Council, whilst employed as collector.— ROGER DUNNE, age 46, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaven, protruding lips ( when speak- ing), stoops slightly when walking; dress, dark tweed suit, black bowler hat, sometimes wears frock coat and silk hat. Native of Hove. Warrant issued. 2 — A Division.— For stealing, 27th ult., a lady's 18- ct. Geneva watch, long gold neckchain attached; 1 lady's dress ring, set 3 sapphires and 2 diamonds alternately, flaw in one sapphire, gipsy setting; 1 do. fancy gold filigree work, Indian de- sign, set large sapphire, claw setting; 1 18- ct. wed- ding ring, ruby, emerald, garnet, amethyst, ruby and diamond, in plain setting, soldered thereon; 1 large gold locket, small gold neckchain attached, set with small pearls, star set pearls in centre, photograph of lady and gentleman inside; 1 small do., glass one side, plain the other; 1 lady's small keyless metal watch.— EMILY BROWN, alias MARION WATSON, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, turning grey, eyes hazel, very bad teeth, protruding, de- formed little finger right hand; dress, black bodice and skirt, lace collar, black straw hat, trimmed flowers. 3.— B Division .— For failing to appear for examination in bankruptcy.— HORACE OLIVER STRATFORD, age 50, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion sallow, hair grey, moustache grey ( cut short), appearance of a gentleman farmer; dress, fawn coat, fancy red vest, may have dark trousers, usually wears riding breeches, round soft hat, heavy boots. Warrant issued. 4. — B Division— For stealing £ 50 ( larceny, servant).— ALFRED VON WINKLER, Office No. S/ 41029, age 44, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, long scar on forehead over nose, hair brushed back from fore head, black moustache, ends turned up, German style; dress, black frock coat and vest, dark striped trousers, stand- up collar, white tie and slip, high silk hat and patent boots. A native of Dresden, Germany. 5.— E Division.— For obtaining £ 5 by false pretences as a deposit security, by representing that he required an assistant or manager for a baker's or confectioner's business.— WILLIAM JOSEPH MARLOW, Office No. S/ 121959, age 54, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, small scar on chin; dress, light grey suit and brown boots. A baker; native of London. Warrant issued. Q.— S Division.— JOHN HARTLEY, alias MARSHALL, Case No. 3, 2nd inst. Not now wanted. Property recovered. 7.— V Division.— For non- appearance to 8 summonses for practising as a solicitor without a certificate.— JOSEPH FOULDS, age 50 to 54, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion sallow, hair brown, turning grey, addicted to drink, and an inveterate cigarette smoker; dress, black morning coat and vest, grey striped trousers, silk hat. Native of Burnley or Manchester. Warrant issued. 8.— Y Division.- For horsestealing ( property recovered).— THOMAS BONE, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, slight build, thin face; dress, dark jacket suit, light trousers, grey cap. Accom- panied by two gipsy women, and supposed driving about the country in a light spring gig with yellow wheels. BEDFORDSHIRE. 9 — Biggleswade ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) a gold hunter lever watch, 1 gold chain, 1 sovereign case and £ 4, 1 silver watch in leather wrist- band.— CECIL ANSELL DUNHAM, age 25, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, clean shaven, eyes blue, Roman nose; dress, dark suit, straw hat, may be wearing a green cloth overcoat. BERKSHIRE. 10.— Windsor ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 10 by false pretences ( worthless cheque)— GILBERT L. HANKEY, age about 45, height 5 ft. 11 ins., good build, clean shaven thick lips, appearance of a heavy drinker, hair dark brown; dress, grey suit, bowler hat, but generally wears a cap. Ac- companied by his wife ( not wanted), age 50, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue. Both addicted to heavy drinking. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor- BUGKINGHA MS HI RE. 11.— High Wycombe ( County).— For steal- ing £ 3 from his lodgings at Great Marlow, 25th ult.— WILLIAM F. MARSHALL, alias HARRI- SON, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion sallow ( inclined to fair), thin features, hair dark brown, clean shaven, eyes ( dull and heavy) dark, Roman nose, bad teeth, very long finger nails; dress, dark greenish mixture jacket and trousers, fancy waistcoat, brown boots, straw hat with dark band. See Case No. 23, 5th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Trevener, County Police, High Wycombe. 12.— Newport ' Pagnell ( County).— For housebreaking at Linford, 26th ult., and stealing a lady's plain gold keeper ring; 1 do. gold dress ring, set small diamond; 1 watch brooch, locket attached; 1 hair watch chain, with small pendant set blue stones; 1 cream- colour silk handkerchief; 1 old Ingersoll watch.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, moustache light ginger; dress, brown jacket and vest, blue trousers; had with him an overcoat with check lining. Stated he had worked at Rugby and Wolverton. 13.— Newport Pagnell ( County).— For stealing ( servant) 13s. 6d., and 19 National Insur- ance cards, each bearing a 7d. stamp, 29th ult., at Bletchley.— FREDERICK WALTERS, age 26, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue, extensively tattooed on arms and chest, walks badly; dress, light grey mixture suit, rubber collar with black lines, lace boots. A native of Grays, Essex. Recently employed with a circus. Supposed recently discharged from the Royal Marines. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearce, Newport Pagnell. ALFRED JONES, age about 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, tombstone and R. I. P. right arm, woman both forearms; dress, brown jacket and vest, dark trousers, light brown cap, new brown boots; of horsey appearance. He obtained the above amount on the pretence of fetching a mare and colt from a farm at Ledbury. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Croghan, Dukinfield. 18.— Macclesfield ( Borough). — Further information— ALBERT EDWARD TAYLOR, Case 14, 2nd inst., identified as ALBERT ED- WARD TAYLOR, alias PARKINSON, Office No. 3557- 99, Case 39, 2nd February, 1912. Taylor committed bigamy with complainant at Birming- ham 5th July, 1912. His lawful wife resides in Burnley. Has been convicted at Salford, Notting- ham, Lockerbie, Stafford, Manchester, Aberdeen, Burnley, Bradford, Carlisle, Liverpool, Preston, and Chester. Sentenced at Middlesex Sessions 26th May, 1906, to 10 years' penal servitude, and three years' police supervision for larceny. Dis- charged from Parkhurst Prison 5th December, 1910. Requirements as to reporting have been remitted. Information to the Chief Constable, Macclesfield. CUMBERLAND. 19.— Workington ( County).— For unlawfully pawning two silver watches ( recovered).— ED WARD MARTIN AYRE, age 42, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, turning grey, eyes grey, cut scar right side of nose, small growth on tongue; dress, dark suit, cap, strong boots. A watch maker; but for some years has followed labouring work at public works, and dur- ing spare time has repaired clocks and watches. Addicted to drink. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hutchinson, Workington. CA MBRIDGESHIRE. 14.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing a bicycle, 22nd ult. ( recovered at Saffron Walden). A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build; dress, dark tweed suit, hard hat; spots of red paint on vest. 15.— Cambridge ( Borough).— For stealing 2 bicycles, 22nd uFt.: lst, black enamelled, lined green and gold, 24- in. frame, upturned handle bars, 2 roller brakes, Reflex Clipper wired- on tyres, bottom tube knocked up slightly showing a dent underneath, Clarion bell, N. P. pump, No. 15771 on frame, transfer on top tube 0155, " Invicta" on transfer; 2nd, all black, 25 or 26- in. frame, 2- speed back hub with only top speed acting, flat handle bars, 2 roller brakes, Reflex Clipper Ideal cover with beaded edge, on back wheel, Warwick tyre front wheel, " Invicta" on transfer.— FREDERICK HARD WICK, age about 24, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., clean shaven; wearing dark brown suit, cap. HARDWICK, age about 20, height 5 ft. 6 ins., clean shaven; dress, dark jacket and trousers, white vest, brown boots, cap. They hired the bicycles, stating they were engineers, and wanted them for the purpose of riding to a mill about four miles from the town. Warrant issued. CHESHIRE. 16.— Birkenhead ( County).— For bigamy.— JOSEPH LOWE, alios JOHN HARRIS, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( wavy) light brown, eyes blue, small fleshy lump behind left ear; dress, dark navy blue suit with faint light stripes, plaid tie, light cap, lace boots. An iron worker; native of Wednesbury. Is a good pianist, Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Farnworth, County Hall Birkenhead. 11.— Dukinfield ( County).— For obtaining £ 4 by false pretences at Broadbottom, 7th ult.— ESSEX. < 20.— Grays ( County).— For obtaining 6d. by false pretences, 30th ult.— GRAVE HEDGES, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, thin face, hair dark; dress, dark green costume, leather belt, biscuit- coloured straw hat, turned up all round, bunch of straw at side, trimmed dark ribbon, wearing a badge of coloured ribbon on breast. Represents she is engaging lodgings for lodgers in connection with a paper called Forget- me- not, and endeavours to obtain money by getting people to take shares in this paper. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Grays. M — Rochford ( County).— LEWIS AARON MURCH, Case No. 12, 28th June, 1912. Not now wanted. 22.— Southend ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 4th and 20th ult., respectively, a Road ster bicycle, transfer on head " Berefink," 26- in frame, parallel top bar, new Michelin back tyre, Palmer front, 2- speed gear, 2 inverted lever brakes rusty condition; and a Centaur bicycle, 26- in. frame, 28- in. wheels, upraised handle " bars, 2 roller lever brakes, mudguards, transfer on back one " Centaur, Coventry," back wheel enamelled black over green, which shows where brakes have rubbed, believed Lamplugh saddle, plated pump attached. — F. WILLIAMS, alias E. W. DRAKE, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh hair light, twists mouth when speaking; dress, brown suit, soft felt hat. See Case No. 9, 26th ult. Marden, Southend. 23.— Wit ham ( County).— For obtaining 2s. by false pretences, at Tolleshunt Major, 15th ult.— WILLIAM STUBBINGS, alias BRAYBRICK and FREDERICK BRAYBROOK, age about 45, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, long face, hair brown, walks with a stoop; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, naval trousers. A labourer native of Maldon, Essex. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Coppin, Witham. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 24.— Stroud ( County).— For uttering a forged money order. COATES, alias STRONG, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, high cheek bones, hair light, dark brown moustache, eyes sunken, carries head slightly for- ward; dress, light grey suit, bowler hat. Carries a small wooden sample case. He stayed at an hotel and induced the book- keeper to cash a money order, which Tilad been fraudently altered from Is. 3d. to £ 4 Is. 3d. Usually stays at good- class hotels. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Biggs, Stroud. HAMPSHIRE. 25.— Gosport ( County).— For stealing ( bailee); 7s., 6th ult.— ARTHUR GEORGE FORD, age 15, height 4 ft. 11 ins., complexion sallow, thin fea- tures, hair and eyes dark brown, slightly deaf; dress, old dark green suit, green cap. Had a bi- cycle in his possession when he absconded, 6th ult. A native of Gosport. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Abel, Gosport. 26.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For embez- zlement.— DAVID HARRY DUNNING WIL- LIAMS, age 44, height 5 ft. 6 ins., hair and mous- tache black, eyes hazel; dress, green or brown mixture suit, black bowler hat, lace boots. Has been employed as managing clerk at a laundry. Absconded 16th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. 27 — Southampton ( Borough).- For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle.— FRED BROOM, age 19, height 5 ft. 8 ins., hair dark, cast in one eye; dress, dark suit and cap. A labourer; native of Bournemouth' May be found at Salvation Army Homes or com- mon lodging houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Southamp- ton. HEREFORDSHIRE. 28.— Bromyard ( County).— For housebreak- ing, 22nd ult., and stealing a silver watch, glass broken, celluloid case; 1 pair boots, size 7; 1 pair black trousers; 1 comb.— A MAN, age about 22, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaven; dress, navy blue lounge jacket,, dark tweed trousers, dark cap. Information to Supt. Groves, Bromyard. KENT. Id.— Broadstairs ( County).— For stealing jewellery and clothing.— LUCY MATTHEWS, alias UNWIN, WILLIAMS, JOYCE, JINKS and FALLS, Office No. 838- 02 ( see Case 25, 28th June, Tabular Form, 5th ult., and Illustrated Circular 88, figure 26), age 34, height 5 ft. 1 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark brown. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Stone, Broadstairs. 30 — Cr an brook ( County).— For stealing, 2nd inst., at Goudhurst, a New Standard Quadrant bicycle, No. 146973, 28 in. frame, Stoll tyres, 2- star square cranks, rubber pedals, free wheel, Brooks' saddle, gas lamp, upturned handlebars, nickel- plated carrier, tool bag— HENRY RUS- SELL, age 22, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey; extensively tattooed, has crucifixion on chest. REES WILLIAMS, age 18, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar left wrist. Both men wore khaki uniform, and are deserters from the South Wales Borderers. Warrants issued. Information to Supt. Fowle, Cranbrook. 31.— Gravesend ( Borough).— For stealing ( person), 23rd ult., a heavy 18- ct, albert, curb pattern, one link in centre not marked, with medal- lion, Queen Victoria's head front and back; 1 gold double- case watch, plain, maker, believed " Cullan," London; and about £ 20.— A MAN, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., stoutish build, complexion sallow, clean shaven, hair very dark; dress, navy blue or black suit, straw hat. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. 32.— Margate ( Horough).— For leaving his- wife and family chargeable to the Isle of Thanet Union since 11th June last.— ERNEST JOHN BAKER, age 29, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion pale, hair brown. A carpenter and painter; native of Margate. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Margate. 33.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For failing to appear to a summons for incurring a debt of £ 7 19s. by fraud, between 8th and 15th ult.— CLARENCE MIMARDIERE, age about 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion and hair dark, clean shaven, addicted to drink, of Jewish appear- ance; dress, dark tweed suit. May be found in company of music- hall artistes or out- door enter- tainers. Absconded 25th ult. Accompanied by his wife and five children. Warrant issued. 34.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 3 10s. by false pretences, 26th ult.— CHARLES CROSS, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion fair, freckled, short stubby moustache ginger, bad front teeth, left thumb injured; dress, greenish grey jacket, white trousers and shoes, green Alpine hat. He was employed to collect money for a show on the sands, and on the 26th ult., called at the office of the lessee of the pitch, stated he was sent for the wages, obtained same and absconded. Stated he had been travelling FRIDAY, AUGUST 9, 1912. 3 PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. DENBIGHSHIRE. 35.— Colwyn Bay { County).— For stealing a purse and £ 10 from the person.— GEORGE LEEFE, alias SMITH, LEHIFF, JOHNSON, CLAUDE, EDWARDS, MEE and CHARLES MANNLY, Officc No. 172- 00 ( see Illustrated Cir- cular No. 90, figure 33), age 56, height 5 ft. 3£ ins., complexion fair, hair, whiskers and moustache dark brown ( going grey), may be clean shaven, prominent nose, small scar knuckle of right middle finger; dress, dark grey suit, bowler hat. Has been convicted at Wakefield, Carlisle, Doncaster, Wrexham, Edinburgh, Carnarvon, Isle of Man, Margate, Wells, Liverpool, and London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Beresford, Colwyn Bay. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 36.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing ( servant) £ 5 8s., 22nd ult.— ALBERT BABBAGE, age 16, height about 5 ft., slight build, hair dark brown; dress, brown coat and" vest, dark striped trousers, dark cap. A native of Bristol. Had with him a bicycle. Absconded 22nd ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol.
