THE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 1912. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressid to TIIE EDITOB OF THI POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAUD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. hi all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clcarly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8a. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of os. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large, or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .4 remittance of 6j. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. VOL. XXIX., No. 2974. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. Tn all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They musi be clearly written on one side of tie paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the > flice, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. a 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should ot prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( a) All persons coming within Sections 5, 7, or 8, of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one months imprison- ment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one months imprisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churcheB, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, < fcc. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been previously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or convictions if possible, also the No. published in the List of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. HARRIS, age 43, height 5 ft. 6 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, hair grey, eyes blue, American accent; dress, light grey jacket suit, black hard felt hat, usually wears a fox head pin. Supposed a native of U. S. A. Warrant issued. 4.— Y Division— For stealing 17th inst, a Banker's cheque for £ 1 12s. 6d., a lodgment book on London & Provincial Bank, High Road, Wood Green branch, and £ 10 10s.— WALTER POTTER, age 22, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion rather pale, hair light, eyes blue, straight nose, of shifty and nervous disposition; dress, dark clothing, grey cap, lace boots. A roundsman ; supposed a native of Belfast. May be found in colliery districts near Cardiff. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. 5.— Wantage ( County). - For stealing from his lodgings, 12th inst., an open- face silver watch, the figure VIII. has recently been repaired; jewel- led in four holes, " Robert Roskell, Liverpool" in_ side back case, steel hands, very old.— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion swarthy, hair black, eyes dark, " True love" tat- tooed right wrist; dress, navy blue jacket suit, raised seam front of trouser legs, dark overcoat, cap, light lace boots. Stated he was an agent for a gramophone company. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Gibbs, Wantage. CHESHIRE. 6.— Liscard ( County).— For obtaining £ i> 16s. Id., by false pretences, at New Brighton, 23rd April, last,— A. G. HOWLETT, age about 55, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., complexion fresh, round features, clean shaven, hair brown, turning grey ( bald on top), eyes brown ( short- sighted); dress, blue serge suit, soft grey felt nat; of smart appear- ance; carried on the business of a financier in Liverpool.— M. H. HOWLETT, age about 50, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown ; dress, light grey or navy blue costume and black hat. The above ( supposed husband and wife) resided in this district for 15 months prior to May last; called at a local grocer's, made a small purchase, and presented a cheque apparently of the value of £ 3 16s. Id. over and above the purchase, which amount was handed to Howlett as change. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. McHale, Liscard. 7.— Macclesfield ( Borough).— For obtain ing money by false pretences ( forged telegram) from Oldenburg, Germanv, 18tli inst.— ALBERT RENE ROSSO- LEON, age 27, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., slight build, complexion very pale, inclined to yellow, hair black, eyes dark, nostrils slightly inflated; dress, light grey tweed lounge suit, white straw hat. Supposed a native of South America : speaks English well with strong German accent, and is believed to speak several languages. Stated he was an electrical engineer. A native of Dorchester. May be found in company of low horse dealers or fish hawkers. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Sims, Blandford. 9 — Dorchester ( County). For obtaining 2s. by false pretences, 15th inst.— A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( curled at ends) sandy, appearance of a heavy drinker; dress, blue serge suit, straw hat, wearing gold- colour Al- bert chain. Had with him a small pocket book and a small counterfoil receipt book. He called at a house where a card was exhibited " Apartments to let," stated he was agent for a firm at Swanage, took the rooms for a gentleman and received the above amount, for which he gave a receipt signed P. P. Hixton & Son. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Dennett, Dorchester. ESSEX. 10.— Clacton- on- Sea ( County).— For ob- taining a situation as barman by false references, 19th ult.— THOMAS PLUCKROSE, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fair, hair ( thin) light, clean shaven, eyes small, sleepy ex- pression, blotchy skin; wearing dark clothes and cap. A barman, late of Leytonstone. May use the name of D. Randall as a reference. Warrant issued. 11 — Olacton - on - Sea ( County).— For indecently assaulting a female child at Great Bent- ley, 28th ult.— WILLIAM MAYNARD, age 68 { looks younger), height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion pale, hair grey, of military appearance; dress, black morning coat and vest, light brown trousers ( short), brown cap, had with him a brown tight- fitting overcoat. A tramping bootmaker; native of Witchford, Isle of Ely. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mules, CIacton- on- Sea. 12.- Rochford ( County).— For stealing from a barge, 2 gun- metal watches; 1 silver Albert, twisted pattern; 1 silver match box, M. A. engraved on outside; 1 black striped suit, nearly new.— LEWIS AARON MURCH, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., rather slight build, hair dark, • lean shaved; wearing the stolen suit, green cap, fancy boots. A bargeman; supposed a native of Plymouth. He came from Hull on the barge Halc- yon, and absconded 23rd inst. Information to Supt. Scott, Rochford. 13.— Romford ( County).— For stealing, 16th inst., a sack cloth ( recovered).— FREDERICK SMITH, age 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion dark, hair brown, eyes grey, a gipsy. Native of Stevenage, Herts. He travels the country accompanied by his wife and two chil- dren in an old costermonger's barrow, painted green, yellow wheels, tent on top of barrow, formed of wood, sacks and black sail cloth, drawn by a chestnut gelding, aged, 13 to 14 hands, hog mane, short tail, old sores on near shoulder. Believed gone to Kent for fruit picking. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Romford. 14.— Southend ( County)— For stealing, loth inst., a gold albert, long link pattern, gold seal, set brown and red stone attached; 1 silver Eng- lish lever watch, maker Gallop, open face; 1 lady's 9- ct. gold buckle ring; 2 do. dress rings, set pearls and rubies.— STEPHEN BLUNDELL, age about 36, height 5 ft. 9 ins., hair, slight moustache and eyes dark, nearly closes them when in conversa- tion ; scar on one cheek, well educated; dress, dark grey jacket suit, brown soft tweed hat, light grey tie, lace boots. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 17 — Treharris ( County). - For obtaining a horse, at Caerphilly, 6th inst., by a worthless cheque for £ 28 10s., drawn on the National & Provincial Bank, Worcester.— GEORGE ROLFE, age about 28, height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, com- plexion fair, hair light, clean shaven, talks rather childish; dress, brown suit, green soft hat, dark tie. x Warrant issued. IS — Bristol ( City)— For stealing £ 19 10s., 31st ult.— MARY ELIZABETH FINNIMORE, age 57, height 5 ft. 4 ins., stout build, complexion and hair ( turning grey) dark, walks badly, ad- dicted to drink; dress, dark grey jacket and skirt, blue blouse with stripes, cap, cloth boots. May be found at refreshment houses, lodging houses or casual wards. Absconded 31st ult. Warrant issred. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HAMPSHIRE. 19.— Alton ( County).— For stealing £ 85, 21st inst.— A MAN, age 50 to 55, height 5 ft. 6 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, full face, hair ( bald on top) and moustache light brown; dress, dark suit, black bowler or white straw hat. Had with him a small black hand bag and paper parcel. A brewer's clerk. Absconded 21sft inst. May en- deavour to leave the country. Information to Supt. Reuben, Alton. 20.— Romsey ( County)— For obtaining a cheque for £ 50 by false pretences, 24th ult.— HENRY BRISCOE IRONSIDE, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fair, hair and slight moustache ( brushed up) light, of smart appearance and good address, rather hesitant in speech. Rep- resents himself as a motor engineer and traveller for the Paris branch of the New York Garage. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Garrett, Romsey. 21.— Portsmouth ( Borough). - For obtaining by false pretences, 11th ult., a blue serge costume. ALLISON, age about 35, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 ins., hair ( believed dyed") brown, right forefinger missing. Is accompanied by a boy, aged 7 years. Stated she was a widow and in receipt of a Naval pension. Absconded 21st ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. 22.— RoSS ( County).— For obtaining os. by false pretences, 27th ult.— JAMES MILLS, age about 24, height 5 ft 6 or 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaven, 2 front upper teeth and left thumb missing; dress, drab- colour slop or cord vest with sleeves, cord breeches, leather leggings, muffler, cap. A farm hand; native of Wiltshire. Warrant issued. 23.— RoSS ( County).— For assault, 11th inst.— A MAN, age about 30, medium height, moustache light, wearing dark blue clothing, brown cap. HERTFORDSHIRE. 24.— Hitchin ( Comity).— For obtaining £ 10 by a worthless cheque, 15th inst.— M. FRANCIS RAMSEY, alias DE SAUMARIA, age 36, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, eczema marks on hands, wrists, elbows and chest; dress, dark suit with thin white stripes, grey soft hat, had with him a brown kit bag con- taining a dress suit, " Poole & Co., Oxford Street" on tab. Stays at first- class hotels and in payment of account tenders a worthless cheque and receives change. Warrant issued. Information to the Superintendent of Police, Hitchin. KENT. 25.— Sandwich ( County).— For stealing, 22nd inst., from a boarding house at Broadstairs, a blue enamelled ring, set large black pearl, about size of a pea; 1 very long gold chain, set pink topaz at intervals, one topaz missing; 1 pearl brooch; 1 lady's small blue enamelled watch, set diamonds, shape of Fleur- de- lis; 1 gold chain purse; 1 plain gold curb bracelet; 1 curb do., studded with pearls and turquoise; 1 gold neck chain ( small links) and pendant containing photograph of an elderly lady; 1 gold brooch, ruby in centre; 1 blue coat, lined blue silk, black satin revers, " Roberts, Is- lington" on collar; 1 navy blue skirt, black silk braid trimmings; 1 blue serge costume ( bodice and skirt), black silk panel in front, lace collar and cuffs.— LUCY MATHEWS, age 40, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, sharp fea- tures, hair dark; dress, navy blue dress, black hat with red feathers. Warrant issued. 27 - Maidstone ( Borough).— For stealing 2s. — WALTER SAMUEL HENRY, Office No. 811- 08, age 51, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) and eyes brown, skull, cross- bones, etc. right forearm. Was discharged from Maidstone Gaol 1st May, 1912. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. 28.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For deserting from the fishing smack " Concord," 3rd inst.— GEORGE C. NADIN, age 16, height about 5 ft complexion fresh, hair ginger, scar abotu 3 ins. long left side neck; dress, reefer jacket, blue guern- sey, dark blue trousers, underclothing marked " W. G." He is on license from the training ship " Cornwall," Purfleet. Absconded 3rd inst. May endeavour to join the Navy or obtain a berth on a large ship. Warrant issued. 29.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For stealing. 30th ult., a silver English lever watch, gold hands, " W. W." back of case, may have maker's name, " Deacon, Sandwich," on movements, 1 silver curb Albert with St. John Ambulance Medallion and 7 bars attached.— ROSE WARD, age 38, height 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes grey, of Jewish appearance; dress, light grey skirt, white stripes, white and chocolate striped blouse, Nor- folk pattern green tweed coat, band at waist, green straw hat, turned up at back, trimmed black and green grapes. Accompanied by three children, ages 11, 8, and 5 years respectively, and her hus- band. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. 30.— Chorley ( County). — For carnally knowing a girl age 6 years, at Whittle- le- Woods, 15th inst — WILLIAM TODD, age 31, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., stout build, complexion ruddy, hair and heavy moustache sandy; dress, dark jacket and vest, cord trousers, brown or red muffler, clogs. A labourer; native of Farington, near Preston. Has served in the Army. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Whittaker, Chorley. 81.— Blackpool ( Borough|.— For embezzling £ 6 19s. 2d., 28th ult.— JOHN HENRY WEB- BER, age 31, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fair, slight moustache light. A tramway conductor. Has served in the 2nd Royal Scots. Warrant issued. 32.— Blackpool ( Borough). - For stealing 10s. and for obtaining £ 2 by false pretences, 31st ult — WILLIAM SMITH, age about 16, height 5 ft., slight build, complexion pale, eczema or scurvy on face, hair dark brown; dress, dark vest and trousers, brown tie, light cap, new blucher boots, wearing a fish salesman's blue serge apron. Stated he came from Manchester. 33.— Blackpool f Borough).— For . stealing £:\ from a till, 11th inst.— TWO MEN : 1st, age about 18, height about 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fair, hair light, clean shaven; dress, navy blue suit, light mackintosh, bowler hat, Derby boots with Ameri- can toes and Cuban heels. 2nd, age about 26, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion sallow, clean shaven; dress, navy blue suit, bowler hat, lace boots. Both spoke with American accent. 34.— Blackpool ( Borough.).— For stealing ( person) a gold watch ( recovered).— PATRICK O'RILEY, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion sallow, moustache dark, of smart ap- pearance; dress, dark brown suit, hard felt hat. Information to the Chief Constable, Blackpool. 35— St. Helens ( Borough).— Yor carnally knowing a girl age 15 years, 19th ult.— THOMAS GRADY, alias O'GRADY, age 27, height 5 ft. 4J ins., rather stout build, full round face, hair brown, eyes blue, of military appearance: dress new black suit, blue silk muffler, black cap. A labourer. Is a reservist of the Manchester Regi- ment. DUBLIN METROPOLITAN POLICE. 38.— Dublin ( City).— For fraudulently convert- ing to his own use within the past month £ 3,179 or thereabouts.— WILLIAM F. HENDERSON, age 48, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., very round shoul- ders ( one lower than other), high cheek bones with hectic flush, aquiline nose, hair ( turning grey) dark, moustache ( tinged with grey.) dark brown, may now be clean shaven, eyes ( sunken) brown, awkward swinging gait; dress, dark morning suit, dark or grey tie, pearl tie ring, soft felt hat, may ; Tae wearing a cycling suit or frock coat and silk ' hat. DURHAM. 39.— Durham ( County).— For fraudulently converting to his own use £ 63 12s. Id., monies of the Durham Miners' Association.— JOHN DOUG- LASS, age 40 ( looks younger), height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fair, moustache light ginger, eyes ( full) blue, bow legged, swelling back of neck; dress, blue suit, or light grey suit with dark stripes.
