All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOE OF THE POLICB GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted tn one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8, Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the noma of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against htm, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of > police, or hit immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be, 7, Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less ranh than Inspector, ov analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forccs should b* prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within th* United Kingdom. WEBSTER, alios PENDO, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., round shoulders, complexion sallow, hair brown, large protruding eyes, bends knees forward when walking, addicted to drink, an inveterate snuff taker; dress, brown three- quarter length overcoat, blue or slate colour jacket and vest, dark trousers, hard hat with small brim, old brown shoes. A travelling watch repairer, native of Birmingham. Stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. ±.— RenishaW ( County).— For stealing part of a reaping machine ( recovered) at Ecking- ton, 26th ult.— ARTHUR HOOTON, age about 34, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes blue; dress, brown overcoat ( torn at back), blue cotton jacket, dark cap, black vest, brown cord trousers, all far worn and greasy. A thrashing machine driver or feeder, supposed native of Nottingham. Warrant issued. O.— Renishaw ( County).— For highway robbery at Eckington, 4th January last.— JOHN JAMES TAYLOR, age 26, height 5 ft. 4| ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, clasped hands, heart, " Ellen," outside right forearm, tomb- stone left forearm, scar right of chin; dress, dark blue jacket and vest, cap, brown riding breeches ( worn), and putties. For obtaining by trick, 4th inst., 4 pairs of boots ( 2 pairs glace kid, whole goloshed, jockey backs, toe caps, ante- lope lined, loop at back stamped " The Moccasin, ' 1 size 1 8; 2 pairs glace kid Derby, soft leather fined, " E. Twelves, Stephenson Place, Chesterfield," stamped in gilt letters inside; 1 pair size stamped 424, as 42, D 53, 7|; 1 size 8, stamped 424 as 42, E 53, 8) in a black wooden box about 27 ins. by 18 ins., by 18 ins., brass corners, leather strap, " E. Twelves, Stephenson Place, Ches- terfield" painted in white on lid, " Moccasin" on side and bottom.— A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., slight build; dress, dark suit, cap. The firm received a telephone message asking that several pairs of boots be sent on approval to a local doctor, this was done, a few minutes later the doctor was rung up and informed that the boots had been sent in error, and that an employee of the firm would call for them. The above described called for same and absconded. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Borough Police, Chesterfield. ESSEX. 7.— Grays [ County).— For embezzlement— FREDERICK ARTHUR WEBB, age 43, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion pale, hair and mous- tache very dark, eyes dark, long thin nose; dress, dark mixture striped suit, scarlet vest bound with black braid, green soft felt hat, fawn colour mackintosh, button boots. A solicitor's clerk, native of Colchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Grays. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 8.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a lady's 18- ct. gold English lever watch, large, very old, open face, gold dial, chased back, in good condi- tion; 1 do., long neck chain, very fine links; 4 charms, viz., gold spider's web set pink stone in centre, gold lucky bean set blue stone, gold watch key, white stone in centre and gold compass picked out in red enamel attached; three £ 5 Bank of Eng- land Notes; and £ 30.— MAY MORAN, alias BRENNEN, age about 27, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 ins., complexion fresh, oval face, hair ( worn full in front) and eyes dark; dress, long grey striped coat, print dress, black and white straw hat trimmed black silk ribbon. A domestic servant, believed a native of Kilkenny. Supposed accompanied by her husband, age about 27, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion, hair and eyes dark, oval face, Jewish appearance. A marine fireman, but poses as an engineer; dress, blue serge suit, green soft felt hat, turned up at back. Warrant issued. 9.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a blue serge suit, nearly new.— WILLIAM ATTRIDGE, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair turning grey, eyes brown ; dress, dark grey suit, dark cap, Derby boots. A labourer, native of London. Warrant issued. 10 — Cardiff ( City).— For stealing clothing — ELLEN PULLEN, age 45, height 5 ft., com- plexion pale, liair grey, wears a wig; wearing fawn colour skirt, large blue hat. A charwoman, native of Bristol. Absconded 15th February laet. Warrant issued. 11 — Cardiff ( City).— For stealing electrical fittings ( recovered).— OSWALD WILLIAMS, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, complexion dark, oval face, eyes brown, small scar left side of chin, slightly round shoulders; dress, brown mix- ture suit, dark grey overcoat with strap at back, black hard hat.^ JAMES GUINEA, age 18, height 5 ft. 7 ins., square shoulders, complexion dark, oval face, hair very dark, back of neck shaven, eyes dark; dress, black suit, grey tie, black hard hat, imitation Irish frieze coat with strap and 2 buttons at back. Both are clerks and natives of Cardiff. They also stole from their homes ( Guinea) a lady's long 9- ct. gold guard, small round link pattern, 4 oval balls inserted; 1 do. 9- ct. gold chain, small links, twisted wire nattera, large cross attached, initials " O. E. G." thereon, ( Williams); a lady's 9- ct. gold keyless octaeon watch, enamel flower at back, gold bow set 2 red stones attached; 1 9- ct. gold bracelet, set 3 diamonds and 2 rubies; 1 do. graduated curb bracelet, set 2 pearls and one opal; 1 large old fashioned oval locket, photo- graphs of lady and gentleman inside; 1 silver paste pendant, pink stone in centre, pearl hanging. GLOUCES TERSHIREm 12.— Bristol ( City).— For obtaining £ 50 by a worthless cheque drawn on the Union Bank of Scot- land, Ltd., Haymarket Branch, Edinburgh, 26th ult.— R. A. BROWNE, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., square build, complexion fresh, rather long face, square jaw, high forehead, hair ( going bald on top) light brown, large patch of grey hair at back of head, stubby moustache inclined 2 APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT [ continued)— to ginger, right fore linger bent, others thick and deformed at ends, short legs, long body, Yorkshire accent; of smart appearance; dress, grey tweed jacket suit, sometimes weal's a grey frieze over- coat, double breasted, or a drab- colour rainproof coat and bowler hat. Is accompanied by a woman ( not wanted), age about 45, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., slight build, complexion and hair dark, Scotch accent. Had with them two long cabin trunks ( 1 grepn, 1 brown), 1 lady's black dress basket, brown fittings with dome top; 1 brown kit bag; 1 ladv's hat box, black with brown fittings, and several small packages. On the 26th ult. he paid a cheque for £ 500 into the Metropolitan Bank, to become a partner in a jacket and mantle business here, at the same time opening a private account with a cheque for £ 250. Both cheques were on the Union Bank of Scotland, Haymarket Branch, Edinburgh, and have been returned marked " no account." He purchased a cheque book, wrote out a cheque for £ 50 which was paid to him in 5 £ 5 Bank of England notes, Nos. T. 87/ 60506 to 60510, and £ 25, afterwards called at a jeweller's, purchased a diamond half hoop ring claw setting; 1 dimond cluster ring; 1 amethyst and pearl brooch pendant; 1 18- ct. double open curb pattern chain, sliding ring in centre; 1 15- ct. pearl necklet, Prince of Wales pattern chain, pearl spray in centre with hook to attach pendant, and a 15- ct. pin, fox head pattern, and paid for same with a cheque on his new account, also obtained a £ 10 note, No. V- 7- 77928, and 2 navy blue dresses, 2 coats ( 1 pale green, 1 Saxe blue) double breasted, 1 with brass buttons, other metal buttons, all to fit a girl about 13 yeare; and a pair of lady's combinations, is identical with R. GRAHAM arid J. R. STEAD, alias W. GRAY, Case No. 46, 3rd November, 1911. Absconded 26th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. HER TFORDSHIRE. 13.— Watfortl ( County).— For obtaining 5s. by false pretences, 27th ult.— R. J. FIELD, age 38 to 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., stout build, com- plexion fresh, Fair ( bald on top) dark, turning grey; dress, brown jacket and trousers, new fancy vest, hard left hat, red tie, lace boots. Calls at a Labour Exchange, Public Office, or Library to get the name and address of a gardener or caretaker in want of a situation, whom he afterwards inter- views and engages to take charge of an estate, then obtains 5s. as a security. J- CURTIS, age about 40, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair light; wearing dark overcoat and bowler hat. ( See Case No. 6, 29th December, 1911). Warrant issued. Information to Supt. LANCASHIRE. \ o.— Old Trafford ( County).— For stealing, 21st ult., a gold keyless watch, white dial, dent in outer case, 1 gold double curbed albert, with slide bar, Kruger sovereign attached; 1 lady's 18- ct. gold keeper ring, flower pattern.—& EORGE DADLEY, age 21 to 23, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( long) black; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, light cap; may be wearing a dark grey double breasted overcoat with belt. Took lodgings and stated he was an electrician, and employed at the Hippodrome, Manchester. Native of London. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Crossley, Old Trafford- 16.— Manchester ( City).— For failing to notify change of residence.- WILLIAM STAN- LEY, alms HIGGINS, SMITH. JOHNSON, and STANTON, Office No. 2550- 97" ( see Case 18, 22nd December, 1911), age 35, height 5 ft. 5£ ins., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey; scar both cheeks, front of neck, over left eyebrow, base of right thumb; dresses well, and attends race meet- ings. Sentenced Durham Arizes, 24th October, 1908, to 3 years' penal servitude for stealing jewellery, etc.; licensed 6th October, 1911, remanet expires 21st October, 1912, f. i. 214.- HENRY TEAGUE, alia, PARKER and WILSON, Office No. 1140- 03, age 37, height 5 ft. 7} ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown ( turning grey), eyes blue grey ; 2 scars above right eyebrow, scar outer angle left eyebrow, inner tip right thumb, front left hand, between 2nd and 2rd joints back left forefinger, tattooed heart pierced with sword front right forearm, parrot back left forearm, bracelet left wrist, cross and 2 hearts pierced with arrow, skull and cross bones, 2 six point stars, " R," crown, and flags front left forearm, left leg shorter than right. Native of Brooklyn, U. S. A.. Sentenced Liverpool City Sessions, 18th October, 1909, to 3 years' penal servitude, for possessing housebreaking imple- ments by night. Sentence expires 8th November, 1912, j 492." 17.— Manchester ( City).— For obtaining £ 5 by a bogus cheque.— JAMES McCALLUM MHOR, alias" GRAY, ETC., Office No. S. 105600, for photograph and description see Case 43, 29th ult. Mlior called upon complainant and represented that he wished to purchase a motor car, and after selecting one valued at £ 500, paid a deposit of £ 200 by cheque drawn on the Commercial Bank of Scotland, Bothwell Street Branch, Glasgow. He did not gain possession of the car, but later obtained £ 5 from complainant for which he gave him a cheque on the above bank. Warrant issued Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. NORFOLK. 18. - S waff ham ( County).— For stealing sheep ( recovered). WALTER THOMPSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion dark, hair and eyes ( piercing) dark brown, slight moustache dark, W. T. left wrist, ring 2nd left finger, promi- nent Roman nose; dress, dark jacket, light cord trousers, white neckerchief, light cap, leather leg- gings, heavy lace boots. A native of London. N OR THA MPTONSHIRE. 19.— Wellingborough ( County).- For obtaining credit to the amount of £ 57 by fraud ( jointly charged with Daniel Misell, now on re- mand).— P. ROGERS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6i ins., complexion and hair dark, clean shaven, 3 front upper teeth gold filled; dress, blue suit, dark overcoat, soft hat. A native of Mile End, London. They called at a wholesale clothier's establishment, purchased a large quantity of cloth- ing, stating they had a credit account with well- known business houses. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Macleod, Wellingborough. • 20 — Peterborough City).— For stealing a gold ring, snake pattern ; 2 do. chain pattern; 2 gold wedding rings; 1 gold ring, 2 rubies and 6 pearls in gipsy setting; 1 turquoise and pearl ring; 1 marquise ring set brilliants; 2 single stone diamond rings; 1 gold keeper, buckle pattern, chased sides; 1 lady's gold cased guard.— PERCY PHILLIMORE, age 24, height 5 ft, 9 ins., hair ( long and wavy) dark, shaved back of neck, addioted to djrink; dress, light Donegal itweed jacket and trousers, celluloid collar, dark striped tie, grey mixture cap, light cycling shoes, Boys' Brigade belt with badges of 18th and 20th Hussars attached ; may be wearing a greenish drab motor mackintosh, much worn, and a lady's watch in leather wristlet. A tailor's Dresser, native of Glasgow. He took lodgings 30th ult., absconded 8th inst., stating he was going to Leeds. Also represented that he was a professional musician. Warrant issued. OXFORDSHIRE. 21.— Banbury ( Borough).— For stealing 107 gramaphone records, 41 boxes of needles and 3 gramaphone record cases.-— PEBCY M. HINE, age about 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, thin face, hair ( inclined to curly) sandy, consumptive; dress, greyish coat, fancy vest, cycling breeches, stockings and cap. May seek employment in the furniture trade. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Banbury. S TA FFORDSHIRE. 22 — L ichfield ( County).— For stealing watch, etc. ( Case No. 64, 22nd ult.).— FREDERICK WHEELER, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion dark, very red face, pinched features, prominent nose, hair dark brown, small moustache black, eyes brown; wearing dark brown overcoat, dark grey cap. A native of Birmingham. Is an Ex- Sergeant of the 2nd South Staffordshire Regiment. Warrant issued. 23 . — Lichfield ( County).— On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 5 10s. 7d., fine and costs imposed for keeping carriages without licenses during 1911.— EDGAR SELBY PAYNE, age 32, height 6 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) black, moustache dark, eyes brown, addicted to drink, violent habits; dress, blue lounge suit, soft felt hat. A butcher or farmer, believed a native of Bromley, Kent. Associates with betting men and attends race meetings. Information to Supt. Oakden, Lichfield. 24 — StafforU { County).— For maiming a horse!— HARRY LOCK, age 20 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion dark, hair and slight moustache dark; wearing dirty plaid suit. A gipsy. Camps out with his wife, and two children, has with him a perambulator, and col- lects rabbit skins. Warrant issued. Information to Chief Supt. Soendlove, Stafford. 25 — Tetienhaii ( County)— Vox noil pay- ment of £ 209 19s. 6d. maintenance arrears — FREDERICK CROWSON, age 44, height 5 ft. 11 ins., complexion fair, hair and moustache sandy, may be clean shaven, eyes grey, turns his feet outwards, of smart appearance. May be employed as an insurance agent or canvasser. Native of Peterborough. Is a good pianist and violinist. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Robotliam, Tettenhall. SUFFOLK. 26.— Ipswich ( Horough).— For stealing brass fittings and leaving his children chargeable to the [ pswich Union. PERCY R. BERRY, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, wearing dark overcoat and cap. A painter, supposed a native of Bristol. Is a reservist of York and Lancaster Regiment. Warrant issued. 27 — Ipswich ( Borough\- For leaving his children chargeable to the parish.— FREDERICK JOSEPH SPORLE, age about 30, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, eyes ( cast in both) blue, erect bearing, splay feet; dress, dark grey suit, long dark over- coat, black soft felt hat. A plasterer, native of Ipswich. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ipswich. WO ROES TERSH1RE. 28.— Evesham ( County\— For obtaining clothing bv false pretences, 29th ult.— M. PRITCHARD, age about 36, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, several front teeth miss- ing ; dress, long black coat, black skirt, heliotrope tcque hat, trimmed flowers. Was accompanied by a boy, age 3 years, hair very light; dress, green jersey suit, light overcoat, green cap. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hill, Evesham. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 29. Hull ( City).— For obtaining 20 canaries by fraud.— EMILY JONES, alias OXLEY, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft., slight build, complexion pale low forehead, rather large nose, hair and eyes black, of foreign appearance; dress, black coat and skirt, dark velvet hat, carried a satchel. On 19th February last she rented a small shop, stated her husband had been in the bird business in London, advertised in the Cage Birds for canaries, etc., thereby receiving a large number of birds. Absconded 8th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Hull. YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). 30 - Leeds ( City).- WILLIAM McCORMICK, Office No. 249- 08, Tabular Form, lst ult. Not now wanted, he has reported at Manchester. 31 .- Sheffield ( City). STEPHENSON, alias JOHN BARGH, etc., described in Case 35, 29th ult., has been identified as JOHN BROWN, alias STOKES and GLOSSOP, Office No. 1824- 07, see Case 12, 16th February, and Tabular Form, 22nd ult. Warrant issued. 32.— Sheffield ( City).— For stealing suit of clothes, etc. RANKIN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion dark, hair and moustache dark brown; dre6s, dark suit, grey overcoat, cap, black and white spotted bow tie, laced boots. Carried a green canvas suit bag. He obtains lodg- ings, steals clothing, fete., from bedrooms, and decamps. Warrant issued. 33.— Sheffield ( City).— For stealing paint brushes.— LEONARD BETTS, alias WARD, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey. Usually wears very dark over- coat with belt across back. A painter and paper- hanger. Sentenced at Leeds Assizes, January, 1904, to 9 months' hard labour and 3 months' at Worksop, 9th November, 1910, for false pretences. Warrant issued. FRIDAY, APRIL 12,' 1912. THE POLICE GAZETTE.
