THE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SEBIES. FRIDAY, APRIL 5, 1912. VOL. XXIX., No. 2950 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. i. in all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 6. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of Gs. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6, Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of > polioe, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be, 7, Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 9 10. 11. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12 All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should b « prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. TFIF. EDITOR. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows: — ( a) All persons coming within Sections 5, 7, or 8, of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( b) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one months imprison- ment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one months imprisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the following offences: — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. Entering with intent to commit a felony. Extortion by threats. Felonious wounding. Forgery. Fraud. Frequenting. Horse stealing. Housebreaking. Importuning male persons to commit un- natural offences ( Vagrancy Act, 1898, Sec. 1, par. b). Indecent assault on female. Larceny. Mental degenerates. Obtaining goods and money by false pre- tences. Possessing housebreaking tools. Procuration of women and girls. Prostitution, living on proceeds of ( Vagrancy Act 1898, Sec. 1, para. a). Receiving. Robfoerv. Sacrilege. Sheep stealing. Shopbreaking. Suspected person. Unlawful possession. Uttering counterfeit coin. Warehousebreaking. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been previously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or convictions if possible, also the No. published in the List of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. CITY OF LONDON. 2.— For fraudulent conversion of cheques amounting to £ 2,700.— HAROLD CRICK, late of Billiter Square Buildings, E. C., and Lauder- dale Road, Maida Vale, W., age 55, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion sallow, thin face, hair and moustache grey, erect bearing, walks quickly; dress, dark overcoat, brown tweed suit, black hard felt hat, wears a very low collar, and gold tie ring. A labourer, native of Stevenage, Herts. Travels the country with roundabouts, etc. Absconded 19th ult. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Nicholson, Biggleswade. BERKSHIRE. 4.— Windsor ( Borough).— For obtainin; £ 4 by forging and altering a Post Office Mone\ Order, 5th ult.— F. E. G.— Penrith ( County).— For obtaining 40 sheep bv false pretences, 14th February.— SAMUEL MATHER, alias GEORGE BECK and SAMUEL MORTON, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, full round face, hair light brown, moustache light, may now be clean shaven; dress, light brown suit, over- coat with astrachan collar, square top felt hat. Attends farm stock sales, makes purchases, for which he pays cash, then obtains credit by stating he has taken a farm in the District. Travels with a pony and trap, and accompanied by a woman ( supposed his wife). Warrant issued Information to Supt. Barron, Penrith. DERBYSHIRE. 7.— Chesterfield { BoroughV— For stealing from their lodgings, 25th ult., a suit ( recovered); 1 pair lace boots, size 7, Derby fronts— HARRY WILSON, age about 23, height 5 ft. 5 ins., slight build, hair ( curly) and eyes dark, clean shaven, weak voice, long scar on head, subject to fits; dress, dark overcoat with red stripes, dark check trousers,- white muffler, dark cap, brown boots ( blacked), may be wearing the stolen boots. Wore a Salvation Army brooch. A native of Newcastle- on- Tyne. Stated they were mem- bers of the Salvation Army, and were well acquainted with the South of Yorkshire. Od., 16th ult., also for stealing a silver curb albert with silver seal, green stone one side, red the other, 1 common metal match box, British Accident, Life, and General Assurance Co., Edinburgh, thereon attached.— JOHN WILLIAM ROBSON, age 20 to 22, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., slight build, complexion pale, consumptive appearance, hair ( inclined to curly in front) dark brown, eyes brown. Has been employed at Saw mills. He stole from his lodgings 2 blank cheques, Nos. 30 over H— 09172 and 3. Barclay & Co., Ltd., Durham, made the latter pay- able to N. Routledge, cashed same, receiving £ 13 16s- Od. and 4 £ 5 Bank of England Notes, Nos. E- 50, 15691- 4, issued in London. Had in his posses- sion a bicycle, black enamelled frame, gold lines, back- pedalling brake, mudguards, maker's name and address at Sunderland supposed on machine. A chauffeur, stated his intention of returning to America, and will no doubt be accompanied by the first described. Both natives of Durley, Hants. Information to Supt. Carman, Fareham. An electrician, has been employed at an electric theatre, Sheerness. Crowhurst, Sittingbourne. 13.— Margate ( Borough).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Isle of Thanet Union.— JAMES FRANKLIN TERRY, age 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, full face. Has been a farmer and publican, now supposed managing a hotel in the district of Surbiton. Warrant issued. 14 — Margate ( Borough).— For non- payment of £ 5 3s. affiliation arrears and costs.— HUGH WILLIAM MORRIS, age 33 to 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, full face, hair light brown, clean shaven, eyes blue, one upper tooth filled with gold, of smart appearance. A jeweller's traveller; native of Faversham. Trades as J. W. Morris & Co., Northdown Road, Margate. Can- vasses police and military barracks offering jewel- lery, ete., on easy terms. Warrant issued. LANCASHIRE. 15.— Manchester ( City).— For obtaining £ 5 by a bogus cheque.— JAMES McCALLUM MHOR, alias GRAY, ETC., Office No. S. 105600, for photograph and description see Case 43, 29th ult. Mhor called upon complainant and represented that he wished to purchase a motor car, and after selecting one valued at £ 500, paid a deposit of £ 200 by cheque drawn on the Commercial Bank of Scotland, Bothwell Street Branch, Glasgow. He did not gain possession of the car, but later obtained £ 5 from complainant for which he gave him a cheque on the above bank. Warrant issued 16.— Manchester ( City).— For conspiracy— JOSEF WTNZEN, age 55, height 5 ft. 7 ins., hair ( turning grey) sandy, moustache grey, wears rimless glasses, wearing rtvugh dark grey overcoat with patent seamed shoulders, bowler hat, carried a combined stick and umbrella. A manufacturer, native of Hanover, Linden, Germany. It is ex- pected that he will endeavour to leave the country for the Continent. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. LINCOLNSHIRE. 17.— Stamford ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), 19tli ult., a black enamelled bicycle, 26- in. frame, black wheels and grips, raised handle- bars, two roller lever brakes, new mudguards, plated chain wheel and cranks, new rubber pedals, B. S. A. free wheel, new Princes back tyre, new Clifton front tyre.— CHARLES COOK, age about 27, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light; dress, brown jacket, light trousers, khaki putties, dark cap, lace boots with plain fronts. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Theaker, Stamford- 18 .— Boston ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 4 by forging a Post Office Money Order— HENRY EDWARD CLARKE- KING, Office No. 2781- 01. Smith, Witney. 20.— Banbury ( Borough).— For stealing 107 gramaphone records, 41 boxes of needles and 3 gramaphone record cases.— PERCY M. HINE, age about 24, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, thin face, hair ( inclined to curly) sandy, consumptive; dress, greyish coat, fancy vest, cycling breeches, stockings and cap. A butcher, native of Kirton- in- Lindsey. Believed to have been recently dis- charged from Lincoln Prison after serving 12 months. M — Chesham ( County).— Between 21st and 30th ult., by housebreaking at Amersham, 6 silver serviette rings, Greek pattern; 1 do. sugar sifter. The two men described below were seen in a wood close to scene of robbery, with a piece of felt which had been stolen from the house. May hav, e in their possession a piece of dark grey rainproof cloth, 36 in. by 15 in., torn from a coat in the house. Left behind an iron in. chisel, made from a rasp. lst, age about 40, height about 6 ft., hair and moustache supposed ginger; dress, old dark jacket suit, black muffler and cap; 2nd, age about 50, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins-, stout build, hair dark; dress, drab colour jacket and vest, cord trousers, red and white muffler, cap. For obtaining money by a forged and altered Post Office Savings Bank deposit book, also by forged and altered Post Office Money Orders— HENRY EDWARD CLARKE KING alias DENNISON, WILLIAMS SMITH, ene for £ 3 or £ 4 more than the amount for which it was issued, and then induces hotel keepers or tradesmen to cash the same. Usually tries to gain the confidence of managers, etc., of residen- tial hotels by leaving with them letters alleged to etc., Office No. 2781- 01 ( see Illustrated Circular 77, figure 12, also Cases 31 1st, 13 22nd ult., and and current issue), age 37, height 5 ft. 11J ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, mous- tache ( pointed at ends) and eyes brown; wears silk hat and frock coat; gentlemanly appearance, carries an umbrella and a small brown handbag. He purchases Post Office Money Orders for sums varying from Is. Id. to 3s. 5d.> and by adding words and figures makes the order purport to be contain important plans or documents, and by having registered and express letters addressed to himself at the hotels. It is requested that Mana- gers of residential hotels should be warned against this man and requested to immediately communi- cate with police should he be recognised. Warrant issued. LEICES TERSHIRE. 34 — Leicester { Borough).— For breaking and entering a pawnbroker's shop, 27th February, 1912. — JOHN DAVIES, Office No. 1892- 00 ( see Case 46, 23rd February, 1912), age 33, height 5 ft. coal scars back left hand. A clever pawnshop breaker, usually gaining access by climbing a water pipe and getting through a skylight or hole in the roof; dresses very smartly and stays at 3£ ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown ( thin on top), eyes grey, scar under chin, blue scar right cheek, over right eye, left eyebrow and several commercial or temperance hotels; he invariably carries a suit case or traveller's sample case. BRECONSHIRE. 85.— Brynma Wr { County). - For forgery thereby defrauding the Crickhowell Board of Guardians and Rural District Council, of about £ 550.— IRVINE BLENNERHASSETT, an Irish- man, age 47, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., weight about 12£ stones, complexion fair, hair ( bald on top) brown, turning grey, moustache ( turned up at ends) brown, eyes grey or blue, rather promi- nent roman nose, receding forehead, dimple in ohin, walks erect, rather swaggering gait, turn* left foot slightly inwards with a circular motion, hacking cough, a fluent and cultivated speaker; dress, grey or green jacket and vest, grey or plaid breeches, black leather leggings, tight fitting, or light plaid suit, green soft felt hat, may be wearing block frock coat, silk hat.
