" VT OTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in which reports are required to be furnished for the com pilation of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspected of theft, it should be stated whether the pro- perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for which owners cannot be found, shall be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the Force in charge of out- stations will forward them direct PERSONS WANTED. • AUCKLAND.— 15th ultimo, that a summons may be served on him for a breach of bis prohibition order, Charles McGeahan, age thirty- nine, height 5 ft. 6iin., seaman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, brown hair, hizel eyes, prominent lower lip ; dirty appear- ance; di solute habits. Wa* seen about the 15lh October last leaving by the Main Trunk Express, carrying a swag. QUEEN STREET WHARF ( AUCKLAND).— 23rd ultimo, on mar- rant for deserting from the s. s. " Opawa," Harry Stovin Wood and Alfred Horace White. Descriptions : Firtt, age tv » enty- six, height 5 ft. 8 in., seaman, native of England, strong build, fair complexion and moustache, full face, deep- set eyes, two dots tattooed on left arm. Second, age twenty- five, height 5 ft. 6 in., seaman, native of England, strong build, light- brown hair, clean- shaved, fair pimply complexion, blue eyes, thin face. QUEEN STREET WHARF ( AUCKLAND). — 25th ultimo, on warrant for absenting himself without leave from the s. s. " Papora," E. R. Ekwall, age thirtv- two, height 5 ft. 8 in., fireman, native of Norway, stout build, dark com- plexion and hair, heavy dark moustache; good- looking. TAIHAPE.— 27th ultimo, that he may be compelled to con tribute towards the maintenance of his two child- en, in- mates of Wellington Receiving Home, Andrew Williams, age fifty- five, height 5 ft. 7J in., French- polisher, native of England, fair complexion, dark curly hair, brown eyes, full round flushed face, brown moustache ; fond of drink ; gene- rally dressed in daik suit a" d black hard hat. He is supposed to have gone to Auckland. Inquiry is at the instance of the Education Department. STRATFORD. — 25th October last, on warrant of com- mitment to New Plymouth Prison for one m •• nth in default of paying £ 5 fine for obscene language, John Flynn, age about twenty- five, height 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in., fireman and labourer, native of England, very stout build, fair mous- tache; generally wears a white- felt hat. He is supposed to have come to Wellington, and may endeavour to obtain employment on a steamer. MASTERTON.— 29th ultimo, on warrant for failing to find surety in £ 50 that he would obey an order of tbe Court to pay 7s. 6d. a week towards the support of his illegitimate child, Alexander Elder, age about twenty- two, height about 5 ft. 4 in., bricklaver, native of Scotland, decided Scotch accent, medium build, very dark hair, fresh com- plexion, conspicu usly prominent teeth, bandy legs; dressed in dark suit. His mother and brothers reside in Masterton. BLENHEIM.— 9th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Picton Police gaol for seven da\ s in default of naying £ 1 14s. 4d. co- ts ' or drunkenness, Francis Peter Kettle ( known as Frank, the Poet), age forty- eight, heignt 5 ft. 7 in., gray ejes, labourer, native of America, medium build, fecond left finger stiff, scar over right eve, slight stoop, fair complexion, full beard and moustache ( beard clipped), brown hair; dressed in dark suit, cap with black peak; was carrying two sugar- bags containing a tent and \ other articles. 568 N E W Z E A L A N D P O L I C E G A Z E T T E. [ Nov. 29 SEDDONVILLE.— 25th ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with a maintenance order for the support of his illegr imate child, Daniel White, age twenty five, height 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in., labourer and sawmill hand, native of New Zealand, medium build, pale complexion, dark hair, clean- shived ; dressed in grey- tweed coat, blue- dungaree trousers, soft shirt, and oan. He is supposed to have gone to Sydney. Arrears to 21st ultimo, £ 12 8s. 6d. GRANITY.— 20fch ultimo, that a summons may be served on him for using obscene language, Robert Hunter ( known as Snowy Hunter), ape about t. venty- five, height 5 ft. 5 in. or 6 in., labourer and miner, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair bajr, blue eyes, reddish complexion, full face, clean- sbaved ; fond of drink ; dressed in dark suit and light cap. He is supposed to have worked on the Wellington Wharf about three years ago, and was spoken to on board the s. s. " Arahura " at Westport on 20th ultimo. GREYMOUTH.— 28th February last, that a notice of fine for assault mav be served on him, Matthew Donaldson, age about fifty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of Scotland, medium build, dark complexion, dark hair and moustache. CHRISTCHURCH.— 4th ultimo, on warrant of commit- ment to Lyttelton Prison for twenty- four hou- s in default of paying 8s. fine and costs for drunkenness, John Holt age fifty- one, height 5 ft. 7J in., cook, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair and moustache, brown eyes; usually wears a dark- coloured suit and hard hat ; may be found cooking at some of the shearing- sheds. CHRISTCHURCH.— 28th ultimo, on warrant of commit- ment to Lyttelton Prison for three months in default of paying £ 47 17s. 6d. arrears due for the maintenance of his wife, Sydney Lloyd Taylor, age twenty- six, height 5 ft. 6 in., labour, r and gardener, native of England, slim build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, clean- shaved; usually wears a navy- blue sac suit and cap. CHRISTCHURCH.— 22nd ultimo, on warrant for obtaining £ 10 from Frederick William Kite by means of a valueless cheque, Ernest John Frederick Heale, age twenty- nine, height 5 ft. 9Jin., engineer, native of New Zealand, medium build, sallow complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in grey suit and black hard hat. ( See Police Ga- zette, 1910, page 514.) He was accompanied by complainant's sister ( Miss Kite), and may be found at No. 1 Queen's Drive, Wellington, where a brother of Miss Kite resides. TIMARU.— 28th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his illrgitimate child, William Hilbury. ase about twenty- five, height 5ft. 5in. or6in., jockey and barman, native of Tasmania, slim build, dark complexion, dark curly hair, brown eyes, large nose which has been broken, large scar on sole of foot; gentlemanly appearance. He is supposed to be living with a woman in Ellerslie, Auckland. TIMARU.— 28th ultimo, on warrant for breaking and entering the dwelling of Robert Davie, farmer, Levels, and stealing therefrom the sum of 10s. in silver coin and two black- handle razors ( not recovered), total value 17s. 6d., the property of Robert Davie, Philip Kissell, age twenty- eight, height 5 ft. 9in., labourer, native of New Zealand, swarthy complexion, brown hair and eyes, large nose, round mouth, thick lips, white and vaccine marks on left forearm, white marks on both hips; dressed in darK- brown suit and cap. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 284. and Photographs of Discharged Prisoners, 1910, page 35.) He is supposed to have gone to Christchurch, en route to Wellington. Other charges pending. DUNEDIN.— 30th October last, that a summons mav be served on him for theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle, John Moran, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and fencer, fair reddish- coloured moustache, stout build ; dressed in grey- tweed suit and bluish- coloured hat. He may bo identical with Joseph Reynolds, alias Moran. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 514.) Special inquiry is re- quested for him, as the case is for bearing on the 27th Janu- ary, 1912; and also inquiries for the horse, saddle, and bridle. The horse is a brown gelding, seven years old, ahout 16 hands high, white star on forehead, two white hind feet, no brands ; value, £ 13. APPREHENSIONS, PERSONS FOUND, ETC. AUCKLAND.— Charles McKay, indecent assault and de- fault of maintenance, has been arrested at Westport by Con- stable 0. Grant, on information supplied by Detective Camp- bell. and remanded. Hammerly, Auck- land police, on inlormation supplied by Detective Mitchell, Gisborne police. ( See Police Gazette, 1909, page 385.) AUCKLAND.— C. Anderson, Fhip - desertion, has been arrested by Acting - Detective Mason, Wellington police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 419.) AUCKLAND.— Mrs. Harris, theft, has been arrested by Acting- Detective C. J. Halke and Constable H. T. Smith, Auckland and Onehunga police, and remanded. Her correct name is Millicent Stanaway. AUCKLAND.— Arthur Walter Lewis, default of main- tenance, has been arrested by Sub- Inspector Hendrey, on information supplied by Senior- Sergeant Ryan, Lyttelton police, and remanded. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 472.) DUNEDIN.— Lily Evans, alias Mary Smith, escap- ing from Salvation Army Reformatory Institution, gave herself up to the Duuedin police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 558.) SYDNEY ( NEW SOUTH WALES).— George Michael, alias Jarburji Harji, wife- desertion, has been arrested by the Sidney police. BLACKBALL.— 30th ultimo, from the Blackball Bridge, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, a grind- stone, 22 in. in diameter, with square axle rounded for bearings, square washer on each side of stone, plain key through axle to keep it firm, handle rounded off, and " N. Z. R." stamped on flat part of handle ; value, £ 2. Identifiable. CHEVIOT. — About 19th ultimo, the shop of DAVID ANDREW TAYLOR, storekeeper, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therefrom : About 101b. of Diadem tobacco, 61b. of Havelock tobacco ( 31b. recovered), 10 tins of Cap- tan tobacco, 6 tins of Juno tobacco ( 3 tins recovered), and 6 tins of herring- i in tomato sauce ; toial value, £ 7. TEMUKA. — 26th ultimo, the dwelling of ROBERT CHARLES ELLIS was broken into, and the following stolen : A silver lever Rotherham watch, " R. C. Ellis, from Father, on 21st Birthday, 1905," scratched on inside of back case, silver curb chain attached, value £ 4 15s. ; a gold brooch with three bands round it, is wider at ends than in centre, value 10s.; a long gold muff chain, fine links, gold heart locket attached, value £ 3 10s. ; a gold necklet, value £ 1 10s. ; a keeper ring, engraved, value £ 1; two scarf- pins, one set with a small diamond, the other with coral, value 10s. each ; a pair of gold oval- shaped links, value £ 1 2s. 6d. Identi- fiable. RAKAIA.— REV. ADAM BEGG'S dwelling broken into: It has been ascertained that the following additional articles have been stolen— a black brief- bag, with handle giving way ; a knife with mother- of- pearl handle ; a k. ife with wooden handle ; a pair of scissors with points broken off ; three gentlemen's' cotton shirts; two woollen undershirts; a hollow- ground razor in case ; a clear horn- handled razor: value, £ 2 6s. Brief bag only identifiable. ( See Police Ga- zette, 1911, page 547.) RAKAIA.— Between 19th and 21st ultimo, the hut of DAVID HASLETT, ploughman for L. Shirriffs, Hatfield, was broken into, and the following articles stolen therefrom : A cheque for £ 1, No. 132584, drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Rakaia, by L. Shirriffs in favour of " Cash " ( pay- ment stopped) ; a leather flap purse ; a packet of Red Jacket tobacco ; and £ 13 in cash : total value, £ 14 2s. Cheque only identifiable. DUNEDIN.— 10th or 11th Ootober last, from the bedroom of WALTER HULSTON, Gridiron Hotel, a pair of gold sleeve- link-', with a Kruger half- sovereign- pattern medallion at one end and pla'n gold at the other end with " W. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 204.) ADDINGTON.— AUGUSTUS BROWN'S bicycle has been found. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 527.) PLEASANT POINT.— GEORGE McLEERY'S watch1 has been recovered, and Albert Cullimore arrested for the offence by Constable V. Perniskie. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 425.) MISSING. TIMARU.— Since 6th ultimo, Donald Campbell, age thirty, height 5ft. 8 in. or 9in., land ageut, native of New Zealand, sallow complexion, light- brown curly hair, clean- shaved except moustache, dark grey or hazel eyes ; dressed in daik- tweed suit and greenish- felt bat, fawn- coloured waterproof overcoat; always wears tan boots; carries a small handbag, " Donald Campbell, Land Agent," thereon on a silver plate. He sold his house in Timaru for £ 600 previous to leaving apparently for the North Island, and failed to make any provision for the support of his wife. DESERTERS FROM HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE. From H.
