XXVIII., No. - 2914 All communication* for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR or THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all eases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences xeill be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of ( is. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Bvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not li ss rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force, against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons t » be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged ky counties. 0. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to th* number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result fron such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noun on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one. side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, bt Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street l'ost Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" ore only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequi nl issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZBTT* re- transmitted by Police Forces should bt prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within tht United Kingdom. He calls upon landlords of empty houses, states he is about to take a house, obtains the keys, lights the gas over the front door, then calls upon shopkeepers and asks for articles to be sent to this address. ISLE OF WIGHT. 17.— Newport ( County).— On a commitment warrant for non- payment of a fine and costs amounting to £ 5 3s. imposed for larceny - THOMAS HEALEY. Office No. S. 77,472, age 45, height 5 ft. 7i ins., complexion florid, hair brown, eye^ blue, stout build; scar front right middle finger. A travel- ling hawker and cheap jack, attends fairs, markets, and race meetings. WILLIAM RICHARD WILKINS, age 16, height 5 ft, complexion dark, hair dark brown, eves dark, scar side of one eye; dress, brown - nit, dungaree trousers, light grey cap, black wrapper, grey flannel shirt, hob- nailed boots. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. lV.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For stealing between 7th and 28tli September, a quantity of household effects ( recovered)— CHARLES UN DERWOOD, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean 6haven, pointed nose, flesh wound on one calf; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, dark striped tweed trousers, brown tie, dark cap. During the summer he was a waiter at a boarding house, left in September, and has since resided at Whitecha- pel, London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANARKSHIRE. 20.— Glasgow ( City)-— For stealing and obtaining by fraud various sums amounting to £ 785.— JAMEE AYTOUN REID, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., spare build, com- plexion fair, hair light, clean shaven, defective sight, wears gold- rimmed glasses, flat feet, right ankle somewhat twisted inwards; well dressed, usually wears a gold tie ring. He was employed as cashier to the Acme Tea Chest Company. A native of Peterhead. May endeavour to go abroad, probably to Australia. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Glasgow. Pickering, Bury. 22.— St* Helens ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 2 14s. by false pretences 1st ult.- J. MACKAY, age ab6ut 48, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion sallow, hair and moustache brown, turning grey; dress, brown suit, speckled grey overcoat, black bowler hat, yellow watch chain, carried a portmanteau. He calls upon persons who have recently opened business as tobacconists, offers them an agency for the sale of the " Sportsman Herbal Cigarettes," promises to pay them 10s. per month for publish- ing their names, then induces them to give him a substantial order for the cigarettes, which are found to be worthless. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. LEIGES TERSHIRE. 23.— Leicester ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 25 by false pretences 11th ult. — CHARLES FLETCHER, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion pale, moustache brown, rather broad shoulders ; wearing dark overcoat, very large collar, bowler hat. This man takes an office, purports to undertake the transfer, purchase, and sale business. After remaining a few weeks he advertises for a partner, demands a deposit as security then decamps. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Leicester. NOR THUMBERLA NO. 28. Morpeth ( County).— For failing to notifiy change of residence— ANDREW HEN- DERSON, alias McGHAN, Office No. 2277- 00, age 37 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 3J ins., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey; pigeon chested, scar right side of forehead, 2 abscess scars right side of neck, Wrinkles on forehead very pro- nounced, anchor tattooed left forearm ; dressed as a navvy. Sentenced Durham Quarter Sessions 4th January, 1909, to 3 years' penal servitude for possessing house breaking implements by night. LiSensed 125th April, 1911; remand expires 21st February, 1912. LINCOLNSHIRE. 21. - Spilshy ( County).— For stealing a bottle of whiskey between 14th and 16th ult.— BERN- ARD RANKIN, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaven, very small mouth, bottom lip falls in; dress, navy blue suit, green overcoat mixed with grey, hard felt hat; wears a brown guernsey under braces, light lace boots. A waiter; native of Nottingham. Has in his possession his Army Reserve papers. Left Skegness 25th ult . by 4.43 p. m. train for Not- tingham ; was employed at the pantomimes in Not- tingham last winter and may seek similar employ- ment. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. OXFORDSHIRE. 29.— Oxford ( City).— For obtaining by false pretences a brown mackintosh ; 1 black do., both have " Z " formed by perforated holes under armpits, A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., good build, complexion ruddy, clean shaven; dress pepper and salt colour mixture suit, cap. He called upon a waterproof clothing manufacturer, 10th inst., presented a note purporting to he written by a prominent surgeon in this city, as follows:— " Please fit my man with a good waterproof coat, one that is suitable for driving in during the winter months, I should like it to be a dark shade if you have them. Please send bill for same and will call' in to pay in the morning." He is also wanted for a similar offence at Bristol. Warrant issued. FREDRIC PERCIVAL FARRAR, age 40, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair very light, eyes blue, clean shaven, turns toes slightly inwards, takes long strides; when speaking has a peculiar habit of twitching his eyes; dress, light grey jacket suit, black bowler hat, usually wears button boots. Lewis, Docking. 27.— Walsingham ( County).— On commit ment warrant, having been sentenced to 3 months imprisonment for cruelty to a horse at Tatterford, 6th September last — GEORGE LEE, age 52, height 5 ft. 7i ins., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, turnine grey, eyes ( deep set), supposed grey; dress, brown jacket and cap, cord trousers, lace boots. A travelling hawker, native of Lincolnshire. Has in his possession a pedlar's certificate, issued at King's Lynn, 16th May, 1911. Accompanied by his wife, age about 50, height 5 ft. 5 ins., stout build, complexion ruddy, hair ginger; dress, black dress and hat trimmed with large feather; his son age 25, height 5 ft. 6 ins., hair and moustache ginger, a licensed hawker. Travels with a small open four- wheel van and a cart. May be found with low horse dealers. Information to Supt. Harvey. Walsingham. SUSSEX ( East.) 32.— Hastings ( Borough).— For stealing a postal letter, and order for 5/- ( recovered).— ROBERT EVENDEN/ rhas EVERSDEN, age 16, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., slight build, complexion pale, hair light brown; dress, blue serge suit, light cap, light fawn- colour mackintosh. A clerk, native of Hastings. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 33 - Hull ( City).— For stealing 8s. 2d — JOHN W. WILES, age about 28, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion pale, long face, hair and heavy moustache ( inclined to ginger) light, heavy eyebrows, eyes grey, broad forehead, prominent nose, slight impediment in speech; dress, navy blue or dark grey suit. A butcher's manager. Had with him a butcher's very light blue long coat, repaired left side with white cotton. Absconded 14th ult. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 34.— Hull ( City).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences.— GEORGE PRIEST- MAN, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion sal- low, hair brown, eyes blue, thick lips, dot web of both thumbs, ring both middle fingers, spray of flowers, " Fanny" back of right wrist, flowers, leaves butterfly in colours, right forearm, clasped hands, heart and true love left wrist, bird on branch and butterfly back of left forearm, snake around neck, A labourer; native of Beverley. Sentenced to 4 months' imprisonment 20th July last for larceny and false pretences. Photograph can be seen on application. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 35.— Hull ( City).— For stealing a gold watch, albert, and medal ( recovered)— ERNEST ALBERT GRAYSTONE, age 19, height 5 ft. 5 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, 2 dots right forearm. LINCOLNSHIRE. 10 — Sleaford { County).— For stealing £ 10 at Martin Dales, 14th inst.— CHARLES A. FRY- ER, age about 22, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., stout build, complexion fresh, low forehead, hair and eyes dark, clean shaved; dress, dark grey overcoat with greenish stripes, strap at back, dark jacket and vest, khaki colour breeches, brown leg- gings ( blacked), greenish cap, white composition collar, bow tie, lace boots, wearing steel watch chain. Stated he had served in the Navy. He belongs to Clerkenwell, London. Was employed by a person who travels the country with a van selling cheap jewellery, etc., by auction. Warrant issued.
