XXVIII., No. 2912 L A ® communication* for insertion in the POLICI GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THH EDITOH OF THI POLICB GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 4. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. • a. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8a. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusuully intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 4. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged ky counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICB GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to th* number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so QJ to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of th* paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 19. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, bi Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. AU copies of the POLICE GAZBTTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should b* prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within th* United Kingdom. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. 6— Newport Pagnell { County).— For obtaining 16s. by false pretences at Woburn Sands, 8th inst.— ALBERT FARR. age 32, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, erect bearing; dress, long dark overcoat, dark suit, hard hat, light lace boots. A stonemason ; has served in the Grenadier Guards. Usually employed as a barman. Is believed to have been convicted in Bedfordshire and London Warrant issued. 7.— Newport Pagnell { County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Milton Keynes, 10th inst.— FRED COLES ( sup- posed false), age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., stout build, hair and moustache sandy, thin face ; dress, grev jacket, cord trousers, black wrapper, light cap. Stated lie was employed by a firm at Leigliton Buzzard and was going to repair the canal bridge at Woughton. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearce, Newport Piig iell. Stated to be a pen- sioner of the Royal Field Artillery. Has served in the 2nd Royal West Kent Regiment, and the Kent Constabulary. Frequently calls at police stations. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Tunbridge Wells. 18.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For stealing between 7th and 28th September, a quantity of household effects ( recovered)— CHARLES UN- DERWOOD, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., slight build, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaven, pointed nose, flesh wound on one calf; dress, blue serge jacket and vest, dark striped tweed trousers, brown tie, dark cap. MACKAY, age about 48, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion sallow, hair and moustache brown, turning grey; dress, brown suit, speckled grey overcoat, black bowler hat, yellow watch chain, carried a portmanteau. He calls upon persons who have recently opened business as tobacconists, offers them an agency for the sale of the " Sportsman Herbal Cigarettes," promises to pay them 10s. per month for publish- ing their names, then induces them to give him a substantial order for the cigarettes, which pjre found to be worthless. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 24. — Peterborough ( City).— For leaving his wife ^ nd child chargeable to the Peterborough Union— WILLIAM WELDON, age 36, height 5 ft. loi iiis., complexion dark swarthy, hair turning grey, eyes hazel, erect bearing. A labourer. Na- tive of Fdrcet, Hunts. An ex- Army Reservist. Warrant issued. 25.— Peterborough ( City).— For leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Peterbor- ough Union 12th April last— ALBERT EDWARD RINGROSE, alias TUT, age 35, height 5 ft. 5 ins. Complexion d& rk, hair, hioilstache and eyfes dark irown, anchor right forearm, love and cross back of right hand, A. R. back left arm. A labourer. May be found at a lodging house. LEICES TERSHIRE. 22.— Leicester ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 25 by false pretences 11th inst.— CHARLES FLETCHER, ag 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion pale, moustache brown, rather broad shoulders; wearing dark overcoat, very large collar, bowler hat. This man takes an office, purports to undertake the transfer, purchase, and sale business. After remaining a few weeks he advertises for a partner, demands a deposit as security then decamps. Warrant issued. Information to the Head Constable, Leicester. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). V- Hull ( Ci'y).— For stealing 8s. 2d.— JOHN W. WILES, age about 28, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion pale, long face, hair and heavy moustache ( inclined to ginger) light, heavy eyebrows, eyes grey, broad forehead, prominent nose, slight impediment in speech ; dress, navy blue or dark grey suit. A butcher's manager. Had with him a butcher's very light blue long coat, repaired left side with white cotton. Absconded 14th inst. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 28.— Hull ( City).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretenccs - GEORGE PRIEST, MAN, age 32, height 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion sal- low, hair brown, eyes blue, thick lips, dot web of both thumbs, ring both middle fingers, spray of flowers, ' Fanny" back of right wrist, flowers, leaves butterfly in colours, right forearm, clasped hands, heart and true love left wrist, bird on branch and butterfly back of left forearm, snake around neck, A labourer; native of Beverley. Has been tramping the country, working as a boot repairer— ALICE WILLIAMS alias FOSTER ( wife of Williams), age 45, height 5 ft. complexion fresh, hair daik, eyes grey, third finger left hand crushed, cut maak left cheek, nose broken. Remanded until 28tli inst. for stealing ( bailee) a bay mare— ANDREW DUFF alias MIDDLE MAS, age 40, height 5 ft. 4 ins. stout build, complexion fresh, round face, hair dark brown ( close cropped), eyes grey, scar right cheek and inside right shin, bow legged ; dress, dark grey suit, tight trousers, very YORKSHIRE ( West Riding). animals ( in this case opium was used) and sell them for a fabulous price, and when the purchaser dis- covers tlie fraud and returns the horse, it is bought back by a third party for a very small sum, re- doctered, and sold again. In each case the prisoner gives a written guarantee to the effect that the animal is sold on a week's trial ( or more), and if it jovial. Native of Newcastle, liorse dealer. He advertises in newspapers that he lias horses, traps, harness, & c., to sell, some of the reasons being ' Dissolution of partnership,' ' Death of head of family,' ' Brother going abroad,' & c., then in co- operation with another man they obtain some decrepit horses, hire a stable, doctor and drug the | is not as represented, he will take it back and refund the money, providing the animal is the same as when delivered. Found in pockets two studded dog collars. Verdict returned at inquest " Found decapitated." Information to Supt. Allmond, Bicester. SUSSEX ( East). 62.— Brighton ( Boroiigh).— 19th inst., found dead in lavatory at the railway station.— A MAN, aged 40 to 45 years, length 5ft. 11 ins., hair and moustache brown, eyes blue, two teeth right side and one left upper jaw ( others missing); dress, blue suit with white stripes, dark overcoat with grey stripes, cotton shirt with Gloucester thereon, merino vest and pants, grey tie with black spots, black socks. Ap- pearance of a working man. Found in pocket3, a black leather wallet, two keys on ring, latch key, piece of billiard chalk, white handkerchief with green border. Photograph can be had on application. 63.— Brighton ( Borough).— 20th inst., in the sea, the body of A MAN, age 40, length 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, clean shaven, eyes blue, front upper teeth decayed prominent lower jaw, hair brown, thin and rather long; dress, black coat and trousers, brown and green knitted vest, grey overcoat black lining with white stripes, brown merino under vest, brownish flannelette shirt with blue stripe.
