All communications for insertion in the POLIOI GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TUB EDITOR os IHI POLICC GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. • 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. - 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. < 1. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted avd no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the ease may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 0. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICB GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one. side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 13. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, & » Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion, ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. AU copies of the POLICE GAZBTTB re- transmitted by Police Forces should bi prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Warrant issued. 2.— K Division.— For embezzling Bs. lOd. — HENRY STANLEY, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion, hair, and eyes dark, flat feet, walks badly; dress, fawn colour overcoat ( worn), dark jacket and vest, grey trousers, lace boots. Warrant issued. 3.— v Division.— For stealing by trick llth inst., a black mare cob, aged, 13£ hands, short mane, meclium tail, 3 large scars near front leg, a set of brass mounted harness, white metal mounts on bridle, T. B. on blinkers, a waggonette stained brown, light grey cushions, Bodmin, King- ston, on wheel caps; a dun colour mare cob, aged, 14 hands, hog mane, undocked, black points, a set of silver plated harness, leather covered hames and buckles on bridle, crest on blinkers, double stitched reins; ( round cornered governess car, painted dark blue, picked out white, blue trimmings, maker, Windsor. Long Acre.— GEORGE WILSON, age 35, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fair, hair black, eyes brown, clean shaved; dress, light grey suit, black overcoat, hard felt hat, lace boots. A MAN, age 28, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, slight moustacITe, speaks with foreign accent, wearing light tweed jacket, light overcoat, soft felt hat. Warrants issued. Reading ( Borough).- For obtaining, 7th inst., money, cigarettes, and chocolate, by false preten- ces.— A MAN, age 38, height 5 ft. 11 ins., stout build, full face, moustache brown, of good address; dress, blue serge suit, light cap. He called at several shops, purchased cigarettes and chocolates, tendered in payment a coin that he rep- resented was half a sovereigu, shortly afterwards it was discovered that the coins were gilded Jubi- lee ( 1887) sixpences, and he is believed to have several of these coins in his possession. May be accompanied by a man and woman, and believed to be following race meetings. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. CHESHIRE. 5.— Crewe ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, a silver English lever waTch, No. 57424,1 gold guard, round or open links, green seal attacBed. A man, gave name of OAKLEY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion, hair ( thin on top) and moustache dark, long nose and features; dress, dark or blue suit, fitter's blue slop, under jacket, fawn cap, blue or green tie, boots size 10, wearing silver guard, star shaped medal attached. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pearson, Crewe. 6.— Hazel Grove ( County).— For stealing at Gatley, 6th inst, a mare ( recovered)— TWO MEN, 1st age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., stout build, rather large nose, complexion, hair and moustache dark; dress, blue serge suit, cap, muffler, lace boots, 2nd age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., stout build, rather large nose, com- plexion fresh, thin features, hair light brown, mous- tache light; dress, dark suit, cap, muffler, lace boots. Supposed natives of Manchester. May have in their possession a brown horse, aged, about 15 hands, no mane or forelock, long tail, a gorse gig, body blue, picked out blue, yellow shafts, 2 old- fashioned lamps attached, a set of old black leather harness, silver plated mounts, except bridle, which is brass mounted. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 7.— Dumfries ( C'ountij). — For stealing wearing apparel and money.— GAWIN HARLE SNOWDEN, age 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair light, small features; dress, greenish colour jacket and vest with small dark stripes running through, grey trousers with dark stripe, greenish colour cap with white stripe form- ing squares, open front boots recently soled ( the stolen property). Supposed a native of Newcastle- on- Tyne. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dumfries. DURHAM. S.— Jarrow ( County).— For embezzling £ 25 between 6th and 13th ins't.— JAMES SINCLAIR 2 THE POLICE GAZETTE. FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1911. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continue!)— LEWIS, age 36, height about 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes blue, cut scar on fore- head; dress, grey ( square cut) jacket and vest, dark striped trousers, dark grey overcoat, blue tie em- broidered with Scotch heather, strong lace boots, wearing a silver lever watch and leather albert. A baton washer or barman; native of Sunderland. Was employed as a public house manager. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Yeandle, Jarrow- on- Tyne. ESSEX. 9 — Chelmsfortl ( County).— For house- breaking and stealing 6/ 6— JOHN HODSON, age 35, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fair, hair grey, almost white ; dress, green striped jacket and vest, brown cord trousers, black cap, and muffler, a groom; is addicted to drink, usually sings in pub- lic houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 10.— Epping ( County).— For obtaining a grey cart gelding at Ongar, by a worthless cheque drawn on the London & Provincial Bank, South Totten- ham Branch. TIDD, alias ARCHER, age 50 to 53, height 5 ft. 7 ins., stout build, inclined to be corpulent, complexion pale, full round face, hair turning grey, slight moustache light; dress, light suit, fawn colour overcoat, black hard hat, wearing gold watch and chain and gold ring.— BROWN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fresh, rather long face, mous- tache dark sandy, carries his head slightly forward; dress, brown suit, dark thick overcoat, bowler liat, heavy boots. Terry, Epping. 11.— Southend ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 10th inst., a silver keyless English lever watch, No. 377698, nearly new, open face, Brevington, London, on inside of inner case, and a linen bag containing 7s.— WILLIAM STAPLE- TON, age 24, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., stiff build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, Nellie tattooed back left forearm; dress, grey striped trousers, green tweed jacket and vest, grey cap, white wool- len sweater, lace boots. A builders' labourer; native of Tottenham. Is very fond of football. Absconded 11th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Harden, Southend. FIFESHIRE. 12.— Cupar ( County).— For embezzling £ 72 14s. 6d.— PERCY S. SMITH, age about 26, height 5 ft. 2 ins., slight build, complexion very sallow, hair ( curly) black, slight moustache dark; dress, fawn colour three- quarter length rainproof coat, blue jacket, grey fancy vest, grey trousers, light cap. Is fond of betting. A boot shop manager; native of Bristol. Was seen in Edinburgh 4th inst. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable of Fifeshire, Cupar. FLINTSHIRE. 13 — Mold ( County).— For stealing, 30th ult., at Queensferry, a Premier cycle, 22 or 24 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, free wheel, two inverted lever brakes upturned handlebars, celluloid mudguards lined red and green, Brampton new saddle; has recently been re- enamelled—- A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 5 ins., complexion fresh, hair and mous tache dark brown, one finger appears to have been crushed; dress, brown striped suit, slit in back of coat, dark cap, button boots, rubber heels. Be lieved identical with man, Case No. 18, 6th inst. Information to Supt. Davies, Mold. 1 u.— Fareham i County).— RALPH MASON, a lias MARTIN, Case No. 21, 24lh December, 1909. Warrant withdrawn. 16.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For failing to surrender to his bail at Quarter Sessions, 5th inst., charged with stealing £ 4.— ALFRED HEARN, age 24, height 5 ft 9i ins., complexion pale, clean shaven, very deaf; dress, dark suit, cap. Warrant issued. 17 - Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing a pair of spectacles, gold rims, and £ 3.— GEORGE WILSON, age 17, height 5 ft., complexion Tresh, full face, clean shaven, bridge of nose rather flat; dress, dark coat and vest, blue guernsey, blue dun- garee trousers, light cap, old brown shooting boots. On the 29th ult. he was given employment as a pot- boy at a public house, and absconded 9th inst. Is believed to have formerly worked in White- chapel. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. HEREFORDSHIRE. 18.— Bromyard ( County).— For failing to report change of residence— WILLIAM BOU- CHER, Office No. 2176- 10, age 49, height 5 ft. 6£ ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, several scars right side of forehead, boil marks right shoulder, woman on horse on chest, snake and dagger outside right forearm, ' Duke of York" and flowers upper right arm, basket of floweis and Scotsman inside right forearm, tombstone, ' In memory of mother,' inside left forearm, flower girl outside left forearm. A native of Birming- ham. Sentenced at Birmingham Sessions, 27th April, 1910, to 9 months' hard labour, and 2 years' police supervision for larceny. Supervision ex- pires 5th December, 1912, 7838. Groves, Bromyard. 19.— Ledbury ( County).— For failing to report change of residence.-^- JOSEPH PEACH, Office No. 1623- 09, age 29, height 5 ft. 4f ins., complexion florid, hair light, eyes blue, bird and butterfly out- side right upper arm, female, broken dagger, bust of female and " Phoebe" outside right forearm, clasped hands and heart back right hand, Queen outside left upper arm, bust of female and " J. Peach " outside left forearm, heart back left hand. A native of Walsall. Sentenced at Gloucester Quarter Sessions, 6th April, 1910, to 6 months hard labour and 2 years police supervision for larceny. Supervision expires 29th August, 1912. 1056. Information to Supt. Williams, Ledbury. 20.— Weobley ( County).— For shopbreaking and stealing £ 34, including a Jubilee £ 2 piece.— TWO MEN; 1, aged 28 to 30, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair light or sandy, scar left cheek from eye to ear; dress, dark or blue coat and trousers, grey or green cap; 1 age about 24, height about 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( supposed) dark; dress, blue serge suit and cap; one was wearing clogs, and one boots). Information to Supt. Weaver, Weobley. 21.— Hereford ( City).— For obtaining sheep by false pretences, 30tli August last.— SID- NEY COURTS, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion dark, clean shaved, a swaggering gait; dress, blue serge suit. A native of Worcester. As- sociates with bookmakers and attends race meet- ings, fairs, and markets. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Hereford. HUNTINGDONSHIRE. 22.— Huntingdon ( County).— For stealing about £ 1 10s., from his lodgings 6th inst.— — HAMPSHIRE. 14.— Bournemouth ( County).— For stealing 17th inst., from a boarding house at Westbourne a lady's old fashioned gold keyless watch, open face, chased back; maker's, Grey or Grove, Leices ter; 1 heavy gold chain, gold seal, gold pencil case and Spade Guinea attached; 1 fine long gold neck- chain; 1 heavy short do.; 1 thin gold brace- let, horseshoe, set pearls in centre; 1 silver Teddy Bear brooch; 1 gold coloured pendant, set green stones; 1 lady's thin gold ring, set in pearls, ruby in centre; 1 crocodile leather purse; 1 chamois leather purse containing £ 1— ARTHUR H. FLUX, alias ELTON, LAWTON, REDFERN, HALL, etc., Office No. 76- 11, Case 11, 11th August last ( see Illustrated Circular 63, figure 24), age 35, height 5 ft. 5| ins., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) black, eyes blue, clean shaved, flat nose; dress, green striped suit, round green felt hat, carried a small round hand bag; very plausible and stays in good- class neighbourhood. Information to Supt. Hack, Bournemouth. DOWELL or DOWER, age 40 to 50, heignt 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion, hair, moustache and close cropped pointed beard dark; dress, dark suit, fawn colour macintosh, round soft green hat, army boots. Stated he belonged to Wolverhampton, and was travelling for a cattle medicine firm Reading, and was calling upon farmers for orders. Warrant issued. KENT. 23.— Sandwich ( County).— For stealing 21 bottles of whisky, 2 tins of herrings, and 8 tins of pineapple at Westcliffe, 12th August last— HEN- RY WILLIAM PEACOCK, age 30, height 5 ft 81 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue serpent left forearm, duck left upper arm, female right upper arm He left Dover the first week in September with Bostock's Circus. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Stone, Sandwich. 24. — Jonbridge ( County).— For supplying drugs to procure abortion— ARCHIBALD WEST ROPP WEIR, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, moustache light, of smart appearance. Has been employed as an insurance agent; supposed a native of Brighton. Is an Army Reservist of the 12th Lancers. Some times poses as an officer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Neaves, Tonbridge. 25.— Canterbury ( City).— For indecently assaulting two children.— CHARLES DOWSETT, age 38, height 5 ft 4£ ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight moustache light, may now be clean shaven, eyes grey; dress, dark tweed jacket, fawn colour vest, dark striped tweed trousers, light grey cap, black wrapper, lace bocts. A groom; native of Chelmsford. May seek employment ou farms, etc. Previously convicted at Chelmsford, Hastings and Folkestone. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Canterbury. KIRKCUDBRIGHTSHIRE. 26.— Kirkcudbright [ County).- For obtaining, 9th inst., £ 25 and a bearer cheque book of the Commercial Bank of Scotland, Ltd., Kirkcudbright, No. 27529/ 27540, by presenting for payment at a bank a worthless cheque, No. 4752, drawn oil Station Road, Northwich Branch of the Union Bank of Manchester, Ltd., for £ 500, and signed Frank Hope.— FRANK HOPE, age about 60, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( thin or slightly bald at crown) and mous- tache grey, English accent; dress, brown suit, tail coat, brown cap. Stated that he had come to re- side in the locality and intended opening an ac- count with the Bank. See Cases No. 31 8th No 8, 15th, Nos. 20 & 44, 29th ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Kirkcud- bright. LANCASHIRE. 27.— Hurst [ County).— For housebreaking and stealing jewellery ( concerned with another man in custody).— A MAN, age 22, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, SD left arm, pierced heart right arm; dress, dark green or brown jacket and vest with stripes, blue serge trousers, dark knitted scarf, light lace boots. Supposed a native of Manchester. Information to Supt. Hewitt, Hurst Brook, Ash- ton under- Lyne. 28.— Ulverstone ( County).— For obtaining a cheque book, containing 12 blank cheques on the Ulverston Branch of the Bank of Liverpool, Nos. A25549 to 255GO, and a Bank Pass Book, HUGH WESTON DEVINE, Office No. 636- 11. For des- cription see Case 29 current issue and Illustrated Circular 101, figure 82. Is believed to have com- mitted manj- similar offences in surrounding districts. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Whittaker, Ulverston. 29 — Barrow- in- Furness ( Borough).- For obtaining a gold watch and chain, 4th instant, by worthless cheque, FRANK BUTLER, alias HUGH WESTERN DEVINE, Office No. 636- 11 ( in Illustrated Circular, No. 101. figure 82) age 50, height 5 ft. 9| in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, nose broken and inclined to left, stout build; dress grey tweed suit, grey cap; Butler paid a cheque for £ 300 ( which was afterwards found to be worth- less) into the Dalton Branch of the Liverpool Bank, and obtained a cheque book containing forms No. A25549 to 25560. He subsequently presented one of the cheques for £ 10 2s., and obtained the gold watch and chain from a jeweller in this Borough. Arrest also sought at Ulverston. Warrant issa& l. LINCOLNSHIRE. 30.— Scunthorpe ( County).- For embezzling £ 9 17s. 6d., 13th June last— ARTHUR RAW- LINSON, age about 38, height 5 ft. 7ins., stout build, very full red face, hair brown, moustache ( rather heavy), light; dress, brownish colour jacket and vest, usually breeches and brown leather leg- gings, black felt hat. Has been employed as a butcher's manager. Absconded 3rd inst. by train from Birmingham to Doncaster. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Holmes, Scunthorpe. MONMOUTHSHIRE. I- il.— Risca ( County).— For stealing, 9th inst,, a horse ( recovered).— WILLIAM JONES, age 38, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion fair, hair light brown, moustache drooping at ends light, lame left leg, walks on side of foot and carries his body forward when walking; dress, dark grey clothes, light cap, heavy nailed boots. A colliery haulier; native of Stone, Staffs. He was engaged to take the horse from Caerphilly to Pontypool and sold same for £ 11 and absconded. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Porter, Risca. WILTSHIRE. 82..— Swindon ( County).— For shopbreaking and stealing jewellery described in Case 74, 13th • llst.— ROBERT GRAHAM, fllms BROOKS, Office No. 3421- 02 ( see Illustrated Circular 68, figure 28), Case 44, 30th June last, age 44, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, haij> ( going )> ald on top) sandy, eyes grey, clean shaved, scars inside left hand, base of left thumb and forefinger; dress, light suit, fawn coloured coat, but sometimes wears dark grey suit and cap; had in his possession a brown flat dressing case. Warrant issued- Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Swindon. 83.— Swindon ( County).— For obtaining a pony and trap by false pretences at Highworth.— ALBERT COLLINS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., comlplexion ljuddy, hair light, clean he glit 5 ft. 9 ins., good build, completion fair, full face, hair brown, eyes blue, upright bearing shakes his head when walking; dress, grey tneod Norfolk suit, red, blue and yellow tie, brown shoes. A clerk; native of London. Is a lieaten' ant of the 3rd City of London Regiment. Warrant issued. 1 Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Ottaway, 26, Old Jewry, E. C. shaved, slightly bow legged; dress, light jacket and breeches, box cloth leggings, cap. A groom. May have a bicycle in his possession. Warrant issued.
