N OTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in which reports are required to be furnished for the com- pilation of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspected of theft, it should be stated whether the pro- perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for which owners cannot be found, shall be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the Force in charge of out- stations will forward them direct PERSONS WANTED. Ho was last heard of at Auckland. Complainant, Margaret Cosseboon, Hoanga. HOBSONVILLE.— 3Chh June last, on warrant of commit- ment to Mount Eden Prison for seven riays in default of paying £ 2 4s. fine and COBIS for theft, Richard Green, age about thirty- eight, height about 5 ft. 8 in., gum- digger, native of New Zealand, daik hair and moustache; sly and slovenly appearance : dressed in dar*- tweed suit and cap. AUCKLAND.— 21st ultimo, f n warrant for deserting his wife, Walter John Goddard age thirty- eight, height 6 ft., native of England, slignt build, dark complexion, hair, and moustache, blue eyes ( cast in eyes), erect gait. Com- plainant, Mrs. W. J. Goddard, Rescue Home, Parnell. AUCKLAND.— 26th ultimo, on warrant for theft of three bottles of whisky ( recovered), value 15s., the property of A H. Nation and Co , merchants, Custom Street, Donald McIntyre, age forty- five, height 5 ft. 9 in., wharf labourer, native of Scotland, fair hair turning grey, grey moustache only, stooping gait; dressed in dark- tweed coat, brown- tweed trousers, dark overcoat, and dark cap. AUCKLAND.— 30th ultimo, on warrant for failing to pro- vide for the adequate maintenance of his three children, Alfred James Groves, age thirty, height 5 ft., native of New Zealand, tbin build, dark complexion, pale full face, blue eyes, clean- shaved, impediment in speech, indolent dis- position. It is supposed that he will endeavour to leave the Dominion. Complainant, W. B. Mooney, 32 Ponsonby Road. AUCKLAND.— 31st ultimo, on warrant for being absent without leave from the s. s. " Beckenliam," Richard Williams, age forty - seven, height 5 ft. 6 in., teaman, native of Canada, a negro, black hair and moustache turn- ing grey, left eye bruised, old scars on shins, speaks good English, cannot read or write ; dressed in brown suit and cap. OTAHUHU.— 21st ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Prison for one week in default of paying £ 2 10s. fine and costs for assault, Thomas Henry Parker, age thirty two, height 5ft. CAMBRIDGE.— 26th ultimo, on warrant for false pre- tence-, William James Imrie, age forty- eight, height 5 ft. 7J in., engine- smith, na ive of New Zealand, daik com- plexion, dark hair turning grey, hazel eyes, right ring- finger missing, " Kate" in wreatn on left upper arm. OPOTIKI. — Man ( name unknown), wanted on warrant for a- isaulting and robbing David Creighfon Martin : The photograph of Henry Edward Dennett, alias Thomas Topping, alias Harry Davis ( see Police Gazette, 1911, page 396), has been recognized as that of offender ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 273.) TE KARAKA.— 2nd June last, that he may be served with summonses for drunk° nne- s and wilful damage in a railway- carriage, James Kelly, age twenty- six, height 5 ft. 9 in., cook and baker, nat ve of Ireland, slight build, dark complexion, dark- brown hair; delicate appearance; dressed in d- uk- tweed suit and black hard hat or cap. He was last heard of at Otoko. INGLEWOOD. — 23rd ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for thi future maintenance of his unborn illegiti- mate chili, Gustave Suhr, age twenty- three, height 5 fc. 7in., native of Germany, stout build, fair compltxion, hnir, and moustache, round features, scar over right eye. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, pages 326 and 354.) He is supposed to be employed on the wharf at Auckland. Complainant, Victoria Roguski, Ratapiko. NAPIER.— 4th May last, on warrant for failing to pro- vide for the adequate maintenance of his illegitimate child, Ralph Anderson, age twenty six or twenty- seven, height 5 ft. 8 in., ploughman, native of England, medium build, dark complexion and hair, sma'l dark moustache only. He may assume the name Robert Bell. WANGANDI.— About 6th September, 1910, on warrant for false pretences, James Hancock, age twenty- six, height 5 ft. 3| in., cab- driver ani labourer, native of New Zealand, slim build, fresh complexion; very talkative; dressed in dark suit and black hard hat. ( See Police Gazette, 1907, page 502.) Offender, by falsely representing that he was the owner of cer'ain chattels, obtained £ 120 from Mrs. Carrie Hena Bullock, Purnell Street. WELLINGTON.— 24th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the adequate maintenance of his wife and four children, George Percival Greeks, age twenty - nine, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, dark- brown hair, heavy eyebrows, large blue eyes, wrinkled forehead; generally dressed in light- blue suit and cap. His photograph is filed in the Inspector's Office, Wellington. He may be accompanied by- Nellie Hanson, age twelve, and her mother, Florence Caro- line Hanson, age thirty- orie, medium build and height, fair complexion and hair, oval- shaped face, determined appear- ance, prominent fiont teeth. Complainant, Eunice Maria May Greeks, Alicetown, Lower Hutt. WELLINGTON.— 1st May, 1899, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his two illegitimate children, Walter Duncan, age thir y- niue, height 5 ft. 6 in., jockey and groom, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair com- plexion, hair, and moustache, blue eyes ; usually wears dark clothes. In April last offender is supposed to have come to Dunedin, per s. s. " Mokoia," from Melbourne. He is well known in Otago and South'and. Complainant, Margaret Campbell. WELLINGTON. — 10th September, 1909, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his wife and child, Henry Arthur Hoult, age about thirty- four, height 5ft. 11 in., draper's assistaut, native of New Zealand, slim build, active appearance, pale face, prominent blue eyes, fair moustache only, light- brown hair ; generally wears a light- tweed sac suit and tweed cap. WELLINGTON.— 23rd ultimo, on warrant for disobeying the lawlul commands of the captain of ihe ship " Australia," George Girard, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 7 in., seaman, native of Canada, scout build, dark complexion and hair, squint- eyed ; dressed in brown- serge suit. HAVELOCK.— 26th ultimo, on warrant for failing to pro vide for tbe adequate maintenance of Ins illegitimate child, Ernest Moore, age twenty five, height 5 ft. 7 in., bush- man, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair compbxion, light- brown hair, clean- shaved. He is supposed to have gone to Horopito. Complainant, Mary Ann Selina Glad- stonbury, Canvastown. HOKITIKA.— 28th ultimo, on warrant for failing to pro- vide for the adequate maintenance of his wife and three children, Henry Broadbent, age thirty- four, height 5 ft. 7 in., miner, native of New Zealand, medium bu. ld, light- brown hair, blue eves, full face, clean- shaved, long scar on forehead ; dressed in dark suit and cap. Complainant, Ellen Broadbent. LYTTELTON.— 13th May last, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison for one month in default of paying £- 2 18s. costs for deserting the s. s. " Ruapehu," Alfred Walter Webber, age twenty, height 5 ft. 6Jin., seaman, native of England, meiiurn build, fiesh complexion, light- brown hair, blue eyes, crossed anchors on left forearm. He is supposed to have gone to Sydney. LYTTELTON.— Between 6th and 26th July last, ou warrant for false pretences, Patrick O'Kane, age fifty, height 5 ft. 4 in. or 5 in., labourer, native of Ireland, fresh com- plexion, blood- shot eyes, reddish beard and moustache; fond of drinK ; dressed in dark suit with black- velvet oollar on coat, and black hard hat. Offender, by falsely represent- ing that he was the owner of a section of land at New Brighton, obtained board and lodging to the amount of £ 3 and the sum of £ 7 5s, from Robert Henry Powell, hotel- keeper. CHRISTCHCRCH. — 30th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegiti- mate child, Joseph Patrick Dempsey, age twenty- four or twenty- five, height 5 ft. 10in., bacon- factory employee, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, light- brown hair, hazel eyes, slight fair moustache, projecting teeth, red mark on chin, consumptive appearance, bow- legged ; dressed in black suit. He is supposed to have gone to Woodville. Complainant, Amy Wise Noonan, Lincoln Road, Spreydon. CHRISTCHURCH.— 1st instant, on warrant for wife and child detertion, Herbert Quirke Kelly, age twenty six, height 5 ft. 7 in., telegraph operator, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark curly hair, deep- set blue eyes, clean- shaved ; dressed in dark- striped suit, grey overcoat, and black hard hat. On 1st instant offender is supposed to have left Wellington, per s. s. " Manuka," for Sydney. His photograph is filed in the Inspector's Office, Christcburch. J. William Moran, age twenty- five, height 5 ft. 8in. or 9 in., ex railway- porter, native of Auckland, New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, clean shaved; generally dressed in navy- blue sao suit and hard hat. He is supposed to have gone to his relatives, who reside at Chelsea, Auckland. He is well known at Te Kuiti and Waihi. Complainant. Eva Alice Rulton, 1004 Colombo Street, St. Albans. ^ CHRISTCHURCE. — About March, 1910, that she may be induced to communicate with the Education Department concerning her illegitimate child, an inmate of the Christ- church Receiving Home, Ella Jane Stretch, age about twenty, height about 5 ft. 3 in., domestic servant, supposed native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion and hair, dark- blue eyes ; good- looking. Her parents reside at Palmerston North. PORT CHALMERS.— 26th ultimo, on warrant for desert- ing ttie s. s. " Orari," Ernest Allen, age twenty- four, height 5 ft. 8 in., storekeeper, native of England, medium build, dark complexion, fair hair, dreamy eyes, clean shaved : good- looking ; dressed in dark suit. DUNEDIN. — February, 1895. on warrant ( issued 30th ultimo) for desertirg his wife, John Robert Jordan, age fifty- six, height 5 ft. 7 in., groom and cook, native of West Indies, slender build, dark complexion and hair, clean- shaved. About twelve months ago offender was travelling a siallion in South Canterbury, Complainant, Catherine Jordan, 45 Glasgow Street, South Dunedin. DUNEDIN.— 24th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £ 3 10s. fine and costs for procuring liquor for a prohibited person, John Sutton, age fifty- one, height 5 ft. 9$ in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh com- plexion, grey hair, blue eyes : fond of drink. He is supposed to have gone to Catlins. DUNEDIN.— 24th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for seven days in default of paying £ 1 10s. fine and costs for procuring liquor during the currency of her prohibition oider, Annie Sutton, age forty- five, height 5 ft. 3 in., prostitute, very stout build, dark com- plexion and hair, brown eyes; fond of drink. She is supposed to have gone to Catlins. DUNEDIN.— 2nd instant, that she may be compelled to pay arrears for the maintenance of ber illegitimate child, an inmate of the Caversbam Industrial School, Mary A Mc- Dowell, medium height, sallow complexion, darK Lair, a domestic servant. Inquiry is at the instance of the Education Department. Arrears to 9th February last, £ 2 12s. 6d. APPREHENSIONS, PERSONS FOUND, ETC. AUCKLAND.— Patrick Hayes, deserting his wife, has been arrested by Constable Condon, Whangarei police. He had assumed the name H. Johnston. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 399.) AUCKLAND.— James Pelly, obscene language, has been arrested by Constables Condon and Paine, Whangarei police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 107.) WHANGAMOMONA.— Renata, theft, has been arrested by Constable Annison, OhaKune police. The watoh and brief- bag have been recovered. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 399.) RAETIHI. — Renata, alias Wirerau, alias Kurutia, alias E. E. Prieor, false pretences, has been arrested by Constable Annison, Ohakune police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 410.) HAWERA.— Harry Wolfe, alias Henry Kammody, alias Kammerly, procuring liquor for a prohibited perton, has been served with a notice of fine and costs by Constable Berry, Thames police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 342.) HASTINGS.— John Taylor, default of maintenance, has been located by Constable Le Fevre, Spit ( Napier) police. ^ See Police Gazette, 1910, page 471.) WELLINGTON.— Frederick Parslow, default of main tenance, has been arrested by Constables Bern ano Rogers, Hamilton police. He had assumed the name Grey. ( See Police Gazette, 191t, page 78.) GREYMOUTH.— Arthur Morris, travelling in a railway- carriage without paying his fare, has been served witn a summons. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 410.) GREYMOUTH. — Harry Mumford, default of fine and costs, has been arrested by Detective Mitchell, Gisborne police. He had assumed the name Walter Fenton. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 381.) CHRISTCHURCH.— John Parker, intending to fail to provide his wife and children with adequate maintenance, has been arrested by Acting- Detective Carney, Lyttelton police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 410.) CHRISTCHURCH.— Frederick Hawke, failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child : Warrant cancelled. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 516.) CHRISTCHURCH.— Charles Matthew Smith, default of maintenance, has been airested by the Sydney police, and extradited to this Dominion. ( See Police Gazette, 1909, page 236, aud 1910, page 237.) CHRISTCHURCH.— Valentina Lottie Siddall, missing, has been found at Lyttelton. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 411.) CHRISTCHURCH.— William Boyd, wife- desertion : War- rant cancelled. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 78.) SYDNEY. — William Arthur Smith, deserter from H. M. S. " Penguin," has been arresteu and handed over to the Naval authorities. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 509.) PROPERTY STOLEN. AUCKLAND.— 23rd ultimo, from the bedroom of JAMES HORNE, 6 Scotland Street, a gentlemen's nickel open- face keyless Swiss lever watch, No. 867176, " Moeris " on dial; and a silver single- curb pattern chain, with a silver Maltese cross attached : total value, £ 5. Identifiable. HUNTLY.— About 21st ultimo, the premises of ALBERT POWELL, biliiard- room keeper, were broken into, and ttie following articles stolen therefrom : A gentlemen's silver hunting keyless Swiss wa cli; a gentlemen's gold filled hunt- ing keyless watch, with '• Lancashire Watch Co." on dial; a dozen gentlemen's metal open- face keyless watches; tix gold filled aouble Albert chains; three greenstone pendants; a gentlemen's gold- mounted black watoh- guard; five nickel- mounted cherry- wood pipes, vulcanite stems, each branded " Warianted real cherry, Vienna made " ; and a dozen briar- wood pipes, with large bowls and bent stems, one branded " Bleriot" and two " Rudolph": total value, £ 19. Identi- fiable, except metal watches and briar- wood pipes. HAMILTON.— 29th ultimo, from a passage in the Hamilton Hotel, the property of NEWTON KING, agent, New Ply- mouth, a gentlemen's very dark ( nearly black) tweed single- breasted three- quarter ^ overcoat, black- satin lining, flap pocsets, " Poole, London," on tag ; value, £ 9. Identifiable. KAWHIA.— 20th ultimo, from a paddock at Awaroa, tbe property of NOONAN BROTHERS, settlers, a light- draught chestnut gelding, aged, about 15 hands higti, while fate, grey saddle- mark on back ; and a light- draught bay gelding, four years old, about 15 bauds high, white star on furehead , both hind fetlocks white : total value, £ 30. Identifiable. MARTON.— 22nd ultimo, from outside the Salvation Army Barracks, the property of HAROLD HOLDAWAY, labourer, a gentlemen's 23- in.- frame free- wheel Lawrence bioycle, B. S. A. parts, wide upturned handles, nickel- plated rims, two- speed gear ; value, £ 10. Identifiable. PALMERSTON NORTH. — 14th ultimo, from the coat of EDWARD COOK, labourer, Burgess's Foundry, a gentle- men's 15 ct. gold claw- set tourmaline signet ring ; a gentle- men's gold band ring, with heart in centre ; a 15 ot. gold wedding- ring ; and a ladies' 18 ct. half- hoop claw- set ring, with four small diamonds and three sapphires: total value, £ 8. OAMARU.— Between 4th and 8th July last, from cabin trunks in transit between Wellington and Oamaru, the property of MRS. K. D. BABINGTON, Thames Street, Oamaru, an 18 ct. gold half- hoop claw- set ring, with five diamonds ( one loose) ; a filigree silver inset forty- diamond pendant, about the tize of a half crown ; a gold Indian brooch, square inset, with four small rubies; an 18 ct. gold two- bar- pattern brooch; a round- shaped silver ear- ring set with a single sapphire ; a gold ear- ring, set with a turquoise ; a small round- shaped silver trinket- box, with Cup d s bead on lid; a silver oval - shaped jewel- box, with blue- velvet lining ; aad a quantity of ladies' wearing apparel ( princi- pally undeiclothing): total value, £ 84. Identifiable. BALCLUTHA.— 12th ultimo, from the dressing- room at the football- grounds, Heriot, the property of THOMAS KEEN, threshing mill owner, Clinton, a silver open- face keyless Rotherham watch, No. 280747; a gold - mounted ribbon watch- guard ; and an old silver chain : total value, £ 6 10s. GLOBE MINE.— ARTHUR ELLIS'S property has been recovered, and Robert Murdoch and Alfred Flavell charged with the off. nee by Sergeant Folley and Constable McMahon, Reefton and Globe Miue police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 353, and Summary Cunvictions, this itsue.) CHRISTCHURCH.— FREDERICK M1DDLETOW HYDE'S property has been recovered : not stolen. ( See Police Ga- zette, 1911, page 4.) TIMARU. — MELVILLE GRAY'S clothing has been re- covered, and William Recular Clausen charged with the . offence by Detective Fahey, Timaru polioe. ( See Police Ga- zette, 1910, page 183.)
