AU communication* for insertion in the POLICI GAZETTE, and till communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to TH* EDITOR O » III P » LIOE GAZETTE, NBTT SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of tho POLIC* GAZETTB, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. o. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8 » . per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6a. per photogiaph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 8. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted avd no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically orranted by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZBTTB, must, on their apprehension oi recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street I'ost Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICB GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. UNDER the existing arrangements the finger impressions will be taken, and recorded at the Finger Print Department, Convict Supervision Office, New Scotland Yard, of all persons convicted as follows : — ( à) All persons coming within Sections 5, 7, or 8, of the Prevention of Crimes Act, 1871. ( á) All persons, at Assizes or Quarter Sessions, sentenced to not less than one months imprison- ment, without option of a fine, for any of the offences shown below. ( c) All persons, at Petty Sessional, Police, or Stipendiary Magistrate's Court, sentenced to more than one months imprisonment, without option of a fine, for any of the following offences : — Aliens ( Sec. 3 Aliens Act of 1905). Arson. Assaults with intent to rob. Attempted burglary. Attempted larceny. Attempts to break into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Attempts to obtain goods and money by false pretences. Bankruptcy offences. Being found on enclosed premises. Breaking into churches, houses, shops, warehouses, & c. Burglary. Cattle stealing. Coining. Conspiracies of all descriptions. Embezzlement. Possessing housebreaking tools. Procuration of women and girls. Prostitution, living on proceeds of ( Vagrancy Act 1898, Sec. 1, para. a). Receiving. Robbery. Sacrilege. Sheep stealing. Shopbreaking. Suspected person. Unlawful possession. Uttering counterfeit coin. Warehousebreaking. But all offenders of the first Division, and such of the second Division as have never been previously convicted, are exempted from this order. In order to avoid the retention of useless records in the Finger Print Department, the Registrar of Habitual Criminals would be glad if the Chief Constables of Counties, Cities, and Boroughs, will, in future, notify the death of any criminal who has been finger- printed. The notification should contain the full name and aliases, particulars of conviction, or convictions if possible, also the No. published in the List of Habitual Criminals. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT. Warrant issued. 4 .— D Division,— For stealing a silver English lever watch, " Campbell, King's Road, Chelsea," on face and inside case; white metal chain and pendant, imitation gold centre, " W. J. McNally, Team swimming, F. W. U. S. C.," en- graved thereon; a bicycle, Ariel Cycle Works, No. 145709, 24 in. frame, North Road downturned handlebars, two plated rim brakes, 28 in. by in. wheels, Liberty tyres, enamelled black, black painted lamp, Bluemel pump; and 13/— WIL- LIAM SPENCELEY, alias NORMAN WAR- HURST, Office No. 984- 11, ( see case 16, 25th ult), age 24, height 5 ft. ins., complexion sallow, hair light brown, eyes blue, scar point of chin, top ( right) forehead, back left hand and front left forearm; dress, greenish jacket suit, wide grey stripes, glass buttons, horses' heads thereon, on vest, wide brim straw hat. A native of Chapel- en- le- Frith, Derby. Has been convicted at Stock- port, Wigan, Bradford, Wakefield, Macclesfield and Burnley. 5.— D Division- — For obtaining £ 70 by false pretences— EDWARD SKILLER SADLER, age 30, height 5 ft. 10J ins., complexion fair, hair auburn, moustache ( waxed at ends) ginger, eyes blue, addicted to drink; dress, light grey jacket suit, tweed cap, lace boots. A native of Paken- ham, Bury St. Edmunds. Has served in the Metro- politan Police, also in the Grenadier Guards. He disposed of furniture which had been obtained on the hire purchase system. Warrant issued. 6.— E Division. — For absconding from bail, charged with obtaining money by false pre- tences ( bogus matrimonial agency)— JACOB KUPPERS. alias EDWARDS, WAGNER & Co., CARL DUMONT, KARL WAGNER and J R. WEISSEL, a German, age 44, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes hazel, scar back of left hand; dress, blue serge suit, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Warrant issued. 7.— X Division.— Tor obtaining £ 9 18s. by a worthless cheque— BERT PATERSON, ago 37, height 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) and small moustache dark, left leg deformed, French accent; dress, dark Cheviot lounge suit, dark tie, pink shirt, usually wears panama hat, right hoot has large high heel nd patent leather toecap. Carries an ash stick. A native of Edinburgh. He presented the cheque in payment of an account, and obtained the above amount as balance. Warrant issued. A native of Dunmow, Fs- sex. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropoli- tan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. BERKSHIRE. Maidenhead ( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— A MAN, age about 35, height about 5 ft. 9 ins., weight abo. it 12 stones, complexion inclined to dark, high cheek bones, hair and slight moustache dark, North Country accent, of good address; dress, dark tweed suit, white straw hat. Was riding a bicycle. Stated he was collecting money, to start an Institution for the Railway Porters, and that his father was sta tionmaster. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Davis, Maidenhead. CHESHIRE. 10— Dukinfield ^( County).— For obtaining money by false pretences— GEORGE RAT- CLIFFE HADFIELD, alias FRANK HULME, age 27, height 5 ft. 9£ ins., slight build, com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, heavy moustache dark, eyes grey, star, horseshoe, horses' head right forearm, star, woman's head with wings left fore- arm; dress, light tweed suit, dark felt hat, brown boots, sometimes wears a silk scarf. A stone- mason; native of Hyde. Stated he had obtained employment in Aberdeen, and required the money to pay his railway fare. Has been previously con- victed. Is known to the police at Sheffield, Not- tingham, and Yorkshire. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Croghan, Dukinfield. 11.— Oakmare ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 27th ult., at Tarporley, an Edlin- Sinclair bicycle, No. 24502, black enamelled, red and green lined, 26 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, plated rims, Droylesden tyres, free wheel, Bowden back brake, upturned handlebars, tool bag con- taining 3 small wrenches, black oil lamp; and a pair of woman's low shoes, size 3, patent leather toecaps— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 inches, complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved, of good address; dress, dark coat and vest, light grey trousers, straw hat with black band, light boots. Information to Supt. Beeley, Oakmere, near Northwich. 12.— Stockport ( Borough).— For obtaining wearing apparel by false pretences— ALICE FROST, age about 19, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., hair light; dress, blue linen dress, large straw hat trimmed black velvet and a bunch of cherries each side. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Stockport. ESSEX. 13 - Clacton - on- Sea ( County).— For ob- taining food and money by false pretences between 25th and 28th ult.— BERT BURTON ( supposed false), age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., com- plexion fair, hair and moustache light, walks erect; dress, dark tweed suit, dark green tie, black hard felt hat. He represented that he was employed at a local electrical works, and obtained money to pay for his luggage. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Mules, Clacton- on- Sea. 1 i — Southend ( County).— For embezzling 14/- 20th July— GEORGE CHARLES FREE- MAN,, age 36 to 38, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., com- plexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes believed blue; dress, dark grey tweed suit' soft green felt hat, lace boots. A harness maker native of Wolferton, Norfolk. - Absconded 19th ult. Is believed to have gone as a coal trimmer on a vessel bound for South Australia. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 15— Southend [ County). — For obtaining of England notes, value £ 25, by false pre- tences, 26th June last— KENNETH SENTON age 20, height 5 ft 8 or 9 ins., slight build, com- plexion sallow, hair ( long) and eyes dark, clean shaven; dress, dark morning coat and trousers, black bowler hat. An estate agent; late 3f Leigh- on- Sea, Absconded 21st July last. A brick sorter; native of Sittingbourne, Kent. For several years he has travelled the country selling dancing dolls made of clothes pegs. Stays at common lodging houses. Warrant issued. Marden, Soutliend- on- Sea. 17.— Colchester ( Borough).— For uttering and forging a cheque on the London and West- minster Bank, Limited, Oxford Street Branch.; for the payment of £ 5— H. E. HOYLES, alias R. WILDING, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion sallow, hair black, clean shaved; dress, light grey woollen suit, American cut. Stated his father resided at Catford, and that he was connected with the motor trade. He writes cheques on plain paper, and signs tliem ' H. R. Wilding." Warrant issued. GLAMORGANSHIRE. 18.— Pontypridd ( County).— For stealing ( bailee) £ 3 5th ult., at Ferndale— FREDERICK HENRY GIBBS, age 39, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., hair and moustache ( turning grey) dark, tat- tooed on arms, bullet wound right leg; dress, dark suit with grey stripes, muffler. A stoker or la- bourer; native of Battersea, London. Stated his intention of going to sea. Has served in the Army, and was at one time working as a stoker at a gas works in Battersea. Warrant issued. Williams, Pontypridd. 1 J— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a 9 ct. gold albert and a keeper ring— WALTER AN- SELL, age 35, height 5 ft. 4 ins., slight build, complexion dark sallow, hair dark brown, thick moustache ( curled at ends) dark, eyebrows meet, faint red birthmarks on cheeks and left side of neck; dress, brown tweed suit, with faint dark squares, green tie, black and white check cap. A gardener or dock labourer; native of Ashford, Kent. Warrant issued. 20.— Cardiff ( City).— For stealing a lady's gold watch ( recovered)— HERBERT PEARSON, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 ins., slight build, com- plexion fair, hair, moustache and eyebrows light, scar left side of chin, bullet wound front of one wrist; dress, light grey suit and cap, light lace boots with cloth uppers. A photographer's can- vasser. Warrant issued. 21 — Cardiff ( City).— For stealing ( bailee) 14th July last, a black enamelled cross frame bicycle, Kennard transfer on down tube, Eadie fittings, coaster hub, Roman rims, 28 in. wheels, 26 in. frame, upturned handlebars, Brooks' saddle, rat- trap pedals, new Clifton back tyre, Dunlop front tyre— BERT MILDON, age 35, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fresh hair dark. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 22. - Dursley ( County).— For stealing ( servant) £ 3 18s.— ALBERT PAYNE, age about 21, height about 5 ft. 7 ins, complexion sallow, broad face, eyes blue, mole both cheeks, two front teeth miss- ing, rather flat feet, Birmingham accent; dress ( supposed), green suit and cap, trousers perman- ently turned up. A native of Knowle, Warwick- shire. May endeavour to enlist. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to Supt. Perkins, Dursley. HAMPSHIRE. 23.— Aldershot ( County).— TWO MEN, Case No. 21, 25th ult., particulars cancelled. 24. Aldershot ( County) — For stealing, 27th ult., a brown striped suit, slit at back of jacket; 1 white cotton shirt with pink stripes; 1 silver curb chain; 1 do. match box, initials H. W. C. C thereon.— WILLIAM CAMPBELL WATKINsi age 20, height 6 ft., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, moustache dark; be- lieved wearing the stolen clothes. A native of Portsmouth. Is a gunner of the Royal Field Ar- tillery. Information to Supt. Davis, Aldershot. 25.— Portsmouth ( Borough.)— For inflicting grievous bodily harm 4th July last— CHARLES WEAVER, age 28, height 6 ft. hair and mous- tache dark, one right finger missing; dress, jrey plaid coat and vest, dark blue military trousers, heavy boots. Has been employed as a road sweeper. Warrant issued. 25.— Portsmouth ( Borough) — For deserting his wife and children, leaving them chargeable to the parish— ARCHIBALD ERNEST WHITE, age 31, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion fair, heavy moustache light, eyes bluish grey, spot tat- tooed right wrist, erect bearing; dress, dark mix- ture jacket and vest, grey trousers, naval jersey and flannel, greenish cap, lace boots with plain fronts. Has been employed as a brewer's cellar- man; formerly served 12 years in the Royal Navy. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Town Hall, Portsmouth. A labourer; native of Pirton, Herts. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Hitchin. 28 .— Watford ( County).—¥ or obtaining £ 2 15s. Id. and a tea service by a worthless cheque, No. L. 18436, on the National Provincial Bank of England, 291 B, Oxford Street Branch, dated 10th August, 1911, drawn by Stanley Carter, payable to W. Davidson— W. DAVIDSON, age 28 to 3C, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins.,., complexion dark, hair very dark, clean shaved, appearance of a foreigner; dress, dark grey flannel suit, white straw hat, patent leather boots. Carried a brown bag. lie ordered the tea service from a tradesman, and re- seived the above change against the cheque. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Wood, Watford. KENT. 29.— Gravesend ( Borough).— For stealing a Sterley bicycle, transfer on head " Sterley," Ding- ley Bros., Coventry, black enamelled, colour lined, 26 in. frame, slight drop, 28 x in. wheels and tyres, " Windmill," Hughes, 60, Windmill St., Gravesend, England, thereon, rat- trap pedals, 2 Phillip brakes, mudguards, Dover pump, black lamp, tool bag, in good condition— DAVID DA- VIS ( supposed false), age 23 to 25, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., hair and slight moustache light, deep dimple in chin, large scar centre of forehead, eyes pale blue; dress, brown or greenish suit and cap, black wrapper with coloured flowers, brown boots. He took lodgings, and stated he was em- ployed by the tramway company. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Gravesend. LANCASHIRE. 30.— Salford ( Borough).— For failing to notify change of address— CHARLES FARMERY, Of- fice No. 702- 03, age 30, height 5 ft. 8 ins., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar left eyebrow, female right forearm, Queen, girl's head and Pansy left forearm. A groom; native of Conway. Sentenced Liverpool City Sessions 5th July, 1910, to 6 months' hard labour, and 2 years' police supervision for housebreaking and larceny. Supervision expires 5th December, 1912. Information to Supt. Heath, Salford. SOMERSE TSHIRE. 31.— Flax Bourton ( County).— For deserting his wife and children leaving them chargeable to the Long Ashton Union.— WILLIAM JOHN TRANTER, age 46, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 inches, complexion sallow, round face, hair ( turning grey) dark, eyes brown, heavy eyebrows, high forehead, large mouth, dimple on chin, thin nose, turned up; may be wearing dark suit and grey cap. A painter, decorator and sign writer, supposed a native of Shropshire. Was last heard of at . Wind- sor in June last. Has stayed at Cardiff, Bourne- mouth, Paignton, and Barnstaple. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pitman, Flax Bourton. SURREY. 32— Chertsey ( County).— For stealing 4 pairs of boots at Weybridge— W. TAYLOR, age about 50, height about 5 ft 6 ins., complexion pale, hair turning grey, beard ( cut short) and moustache grey. He took lodgings, obtained 7 pairs of boots on approval, returned 3 pairs, and absconded; dress, grey suit, white vest with stripes, bowler hat, wearing gold watch and chain. Warrant issued. A bank clerk. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Thompson, Sheerness. NORFOLK. 37. Norwich ( City).- For embezzlement— GEORGE JOHN TAYLOR COOPER, age 31, height 5 ft. 10J ins., good build, complexion fresh, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes greyish blue, prominent cheek bones, of smart appearance; dreM, light grey check Norfolk knicker shooting suit, with shoulder pads or dark grey tweed jacket suit, may be wearing the latter jacket and vest, with knickers and grey stockings, with red fancy pat- tern tops, white felt flop hat with green band. A native of Norwich. Lately employed as a traveller and collector for a local draper and house fur- nisher. Will probably have with him a nearly new Rudge Whitworth bicycle. Has served in the Dragoon Guards and the South African Constabu- lary. May seek employment as a barman. Is fond of the company of loose women. Absconded 15th ult., and had about £ 20 in his possession. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Guildhall, Norwich. PORTRAITS OF PERSONS WANTED. SHROPSHIRE. RA ONORSHIRE. 33. Llandrindod Wells ( County).— For stealing 25th July, at Rhayader, a bicycle ( re covered)— THOMAS HORSFALL, alias FRED- head, burn scar, woman's head and Clara right forearm. A miner; native of Leeds. Previously convicted at Leeds, Barnsley, and Pontefract. 38.— Whitchurch ( County].— For leaving her two illegitimate children chargeable to the Market Drayton Union 8th May last— SARAH ANN MINSHALL, age 31, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion and hair dark. A native of Market Drayton. May have a child with her, and be found in Manchester or district. A shoemaker; native of Maybole, Ayrshire.
