All communications for insertion in the POLICB GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF IBI POLICB GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAKD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of Ss. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge wiU be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Bvery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be, inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. The, force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result fiom such publication. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be reci ir. d not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not Inter than Saturday morning. Tliey must be clearly written on one. side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street I oti Office. A labourer, native of Holyhead. Was at Bangor and Carnarvon 20th ult., and was then wearing some of the stolen property. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Prothero, Holyhead. BEDFORDSHIRE. 8.— Bedford ( Borough).— For stealing a cornet ( recovered in pledge at Wellingborough, 29tli ult.)— F. E. SMITH, age about 30, height about 6 ft., complexion sallow, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, light cheek jacket and vest, dark trousers, new grey cap, turned up at back, Stays at common lodging or low beer houses. He called at a band room, where members were at practice, states he was a musician, had served in the army, was a native of Ashby de la Zouch, and asked for assistance. BERKSHIRE. 9.— Windsor ( Borough).— For embezzlement — FREDERICK CHURCHMAN, age 2a, height about o ft. 7 in. s., stoutish build, complexion fresh, hair ( worn low on forehead) dark, of military appear- ance ; dress, dark tweed suit, dark cap, brown boots. Until 20th ult., he was employed as a brewer's vanmau. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor. CA RNA R VONSHIRE. 10.— Carnarvon ( County).— For stealing at Penygroes, 23rd or 24th ult., 2 pairs of boots ( re- covered)— A MAN, age 40 to 45, height about 5 ft. 8 ins., good build, complexion sunburnt, thin face, moustache sandy; dress, blue jersey, navy blue suit, red and green silk muffler, sailor's peak cap, shoes ( top of right one cut). Supposed a Welsh- man, but spoke good English. 11.— Carnarvon [( County).— For stealing 2 letters entrusted to him to post on 18th ult. One addressed to Kodak, Ltd., 96, Bold Street, Liverpool, and containing 2 Postal Orders value 12/- each, Nos. N/ 12 429263 and 429264 ; other addressed to Gold- Smith & Co. ( Manchester1*, Ltd., 44, Chapel Street, Salford, Manchester, and contained Postal Money Order for £ 2 16s. 0d,— JOHN ATKINSON, age 38, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, turning grey; dress, brown jacket and trousers, black satin vest. Has been seeking employment as Boots at Hotels. Booked by 7.25 train 19th ult. from Carnarvon to Manchester. A native of Liverpool. Warrant issued. 12.— Carnarvon ( County).— For stealing a bicycle ( recovered). — ROBERT OWEN JONES, age about 23, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 ins., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes blue, round face, stoops slightly, upper teeth missing; dress, blue serge suit and cap, light boots, had with him a brown suit and cap, dark coat and vest, cord trousers, and a pair of heavy nailed boots. ESSEX. 13.— Grays ( County). — For stealing about 10 cwt. of coal 31st ult.— ERNEST KENNEDY, age 25, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., rather long features, clean shaved, scar left cheek, slightly bow- legged; dress, light tweed suit, grey cap, lace boots. An able seaman, native of Belfast. Had in his pos- session a seaman's discharge book. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Laver, Grays. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 11 — Merthyr Tydfil ( Borough).— For obtaining food and logdings by false pretences, also for stealing £ 2 2s. 6d.— FREDERICK CHARLES JARVIS, age 25 or 26, height 5 ft. 7Mns., complexion fresh, long face hair light brown, eyes blue, clean shaved, stoops, takes long strides; dress, Donegal tweed coat, white vest, dark trou- sers, bright pinlr tie, white straw hat, black band. A fitter. He took lodgings 25th ult., stated he was a pay clerk at the Dowlais Works. Absconded 29th ult. Previously convicted at Gloucester, Worcester, Newport, Pontypool, and Merthyr Tydfil. Davis, Aldershot, KENT. 16.— Canterbury ( County).— For obtaining 2 sums of £ 25 by false pretences, 4th and 10th ult.— STANLEY GORDON, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion, hair ( turning grey) and moustache ( cut close) dark, long thin face, large mouth, hollow cheeks, very deep voice; dress, navy blue jacket and trousers, plaid vest, straw hat. Is fond of billiards. He hires a furnished house in a good position, advertises in a London paper for a companion secretary to travel with - J APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued).— him on the Continent, a cash security of £ 50 must be given, and on receipt of same, has agree- ment drawn up and stamped, then informs appli- cant that he is unable to travel for a few weeks. Usually cashes deposit cheque or notes with local tradesmen. Is accompanied by a woman, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion fresh, wrin- kled, hair dark brown, eyes hazel; dress, blue serge dress, coloured blouse, felt hat, wings each side, silver mizpah brooch; and a boy, age 15 or 16, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion pale; dress, navy blue suit, straw hat. Performs con- juring tricks iu market grounds and at public- houses. Information to the Chief Constable, St. Helens. MERIONETHSHIRE. 1 $.— Dolgelly ( County).— For stealing a bag containing 32 lbs. of wool ( recovered) at Llanfach- reth, 27th ult.— THOMAS JONES, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, scar under right side of chin and over left eye, tattooed all over body; dress, navy blue jacket and trousers, sailor's cap. A sailor; native of Blaenau- festiniog. Previously convicted at Blae- nau- festiniog, Penrhyn, Carnarvon, Bala, New- town, Dolgelly, and Ruthin. Also strongly sus pected of stealing property, Case No. 11, current issue. Information to the Chief Constable, Dolgelly. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE. 19 — Peterborough ( City).— SYDNEY M. MORTON, Office No. 1802- 10, Case 90, 21st. ult. Not now wanted. He having reported here. NORTHUMBERLA NO. £ 10 REWARD. 20.— Newcastle- upon- Tyne ( City).— For warehousebreaking, and attempted murder of a police constable, 29th ult.— TWO MEN, 1st age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., stout build, full face, clean shaved, prominent cheekbones, Tyneside dialect, wearing dark clothes and cap; 2nd height 5 ft. 10 or 11 ins., slight build, very heavy mous- tache dark, ( supposed false), wearing dark clothes. The above reward will be paid by the Watch Committee, Newcastle- upon- Tyne, to any person or persons who may give information that will lead to the apprehension and conviction of the offenders. OXFORDSHIRE. 21.— Banbury ( Borough).— For stealing £ 5 10B. from his lodgings, 18th ult., and obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences— FRANK ELLIOTT ( supposed false), age about 37, height about 5 ft. 6 ins., complexion fresh, hair arid mous- tache dark brown, star right forearm, wearing dark clothes, black bowler hat. Stated he was em- ployed as an engineer at a mill in course of erec- tion. Absconded 18th ult. He left ' behind a bicycle, black enamelled, lined green, 26 in. frame, 28 in. wheels, plated rims, odd tyres, " Leicester Tyre " on front one, flat handlebars, black and white grips, front rim brake, rat- trap pedals, Lam- plugh's L3 saddle, transfer, " Hearne, Birming- ham," on head ( supposed stolen). SHROPSHIRE. 22.— Wellington ( County).— For stealing £ 39, 20th ult.— SAMUEL RUSHTON, age 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., complexion pale, hair and moustache dark, turning grey, eyes dark; dress, dark suit, black hard hat. A carpenter; native of Dawley. May be found in company of quoit players. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United King- dom. Information to Supt. SUSSEX ( East). 26.— Eastbourne ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 8 16s., 18th ult., by a worthless cheque for £ 10 on Lloyd's, Barnet's and Bosanquet's Bank, Ltd., 72, Lombard Street, London, No. o/ c- 58915, drawn in favour of H. Bradford, signed Bevan Douglas.— A MAN, age about 85, height about 5 ft. 7 ins., slight build, hair light, supposed clean shaven, dress, brown lounge suit, white straw hat with black band. Represented himself as officer's valet, purchased goods, tendered the above cheque and received the balance. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Eastbourne. WORCES TERSHIRE. 27.— Evesham ( County)— For stealing at pen- shore, 19th ult., at bicycle ( recovered)— GEORGE HUGHES, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, slight moustache, eyes grey; dress, pale green jacket and trousers, fancy vest, with brown and black stripes, dark cap, brown boots, apparently blacked. YORKSHIRE ( East Riding). 28.— Hull ( City).— For fraudulent conversion of 2s. 6d.— WILLIAM DAVIES, alias WILLIAM LLEWELLYN DAVIES, ROWLANDS, BUT- LER, and DAVISON, age 32, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion pale, hair brown, moustache light, eyes grey, prominent nose, upper teeth artificial; dre6s, dark grey mixture suit, hard hat. A can- vasser or agent. A native of Wakefield. May seek employment as a tramcar conductor. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Hull. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 29.— Malton ( County).— For stealing a cow 15th ult.— — JACKSON, correct name believed HERBERT HORNE, age about 35, height 5 ft. 7 to 9 ins., slight build, complexion rather dark, thin face, high cheek bones, delicate appearance, hair dark brown, moustache dark, eyes grey, supposed ab- scess mark left side of neck, rather splay feet; dress dark suit and cap. A striker. Native of York. He sent two drovers to fetch the cow from a field. It was sold by auction for £ 10 2s. 6d., which he received and absconded. Sentenced to 9 months imprisonment at Beverley, October, 1907, for a similar offence. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Heald, Malton. A native of Denbigh.— WILLIAM ROWLANDS, age 19, height 5 ft. 8 ins., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, small anchor back right hand; dress, grey jacket suit, and cap, brown lace shoes. BEDFORDSHIRE. 33.— Luton ( Borough).— Remanded till 9th inst., charged with larceny and obtaining goods by fals « pretences — CHARLES RICHARDSON, alias ARTHUR NORMAN, age 44, height 5 ft. 8i ins., hair brown, eyes blue, scar 1st left finger;' dress, light suit, straw hat. A coachman. He took lodgings, and stated he was an advance agent for an army officer, visited harness- makers, and corn dealers, and ordered goods to be sent to an hotel for approval, and attempted to obtain possession of same. States he has resided near Uxbridge. Information to the Chief Constable, Luton. CHESHIRE. 34.— Hazel Grove ( County).— Remanded till 8th inst., charged with loitering with intent to commit a felony— ALBERT BECKER, age 23, height 5 ft. 10 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, scars over right eye, back of head, right side of throat, left shin, cut mark left little finger; dress, dark grey suit, grey striped tie, grey cap. A mechanic. States he is a native of Toronto, Canada, and that he arrived in England about 5 months ago. Information to Supt. Dutton, Hazel Grove. KENT. 35.— West Mailing ( County).— Charged with obtaining farm implements, etc., by fraud— ERNEST GEORGE, alias BARKER, BAKER, WOOD, etc., age 64, height 6 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark, clean shaved, eyes grey, several dots left wrist, lame right leg, usee a stick. A native of Edmonton, Middlesex.— CHARLES WILLIAM WILSON, alias HOD- SON, BAKER, BARKER, etc., age 51, height 5 ft. 6| ins., rather stout build, complexion dark, hair ( turning grey), and moustache ( cut close) dark, eyes brown. RAMEL and H. O. NORD- ENSKJOLD, a Swede, age 25, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat, or light grey suit, white straw hat, black band, greenish tint mackintosh. He calls upon boarding- house keepers, represents himself as a lieutenant of the Swedish Army, spend- ing a holiday in England, and wishes to take apartments for his sister and himself, states his luggage is being sent from a seaside resort, and that he has run short of money, obtains money and absconds.
