All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficii nt to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all casts where, a reward is offered, the name and address of some, person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be insert! d at a cost of 8a\ per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of Ox. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. .1 remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. C. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed, by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be insetted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of 7iot less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clcarly written oil one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street I'ost Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. DERBYSHIRE- 5.— Chesterfield { Borough). — For steal- ing, 15th inst., a pair of steel- rimmed spectacles. — MORRIS MYERSON, Office No. 654- 10, ( Illustrated Circular No. 97, figure 7), age 46, height 5 ft. If ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes brown, may be clean shaved, of Jew- ish appearance; dress, blue suit, collar, tie and cuffs, hard felt hat. He called upon an aged lady saying he had come to test her eyes, and, having done so, produced an inferior pair of spectacles, saying they would be better suited to her vision than her own; he then demanded a fee of 2s. 6d. for testing her eyes, but was given a shilling, and he then left, saying he would return in a month, taking the lady's spectacles with him. Has been convicted of similar offences at Derby, Scarborough and Salford. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. He stays at hotels, makes himself acquainted with fellow- lodgers, 06- tains money and clothing from them on the pre- tence that his luggage has been left at a. seaport town, that he owns a cattle ranch in Australia. HAR- GREAVES, and ALBERT WILKINSON, Office No. 1024- 02, age 36, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar right of forehead, back of neck, left of chin, second joint right thumb, tattooed clasped hands, " For Auld Lang Syne," thistles, heart, anchor and cross, " J. R." right forearm, " V. H. E. M." front left fore- arm. Has been convicted at Oldham, Hull, Grims- by, Lincoln, and London. He took lodgings at the house where he committed the theft, saying that he was going to work at an office in the docks. LEWIS, age 24, height 5 ft. 5 ins., good build, complexion, hair and moustache dark, heavy eyebrows, eyes brown; dress, blue serge suit, light fancy vest, fawn colour mackintosh, light tweed cap, of smart appearance. A clerk or canvasser; native of Car- diff. During the past 12 months has been a general dealer. Warrant issued, 12.— Cardiff ( City).— For obtaining money by a forged order— HARRY BRAILEY, age 33 to 36, height 5 ft. 9 ins., complexion pale, oval face, high forehead, hair and moustache ( waxed at ends) dark, thick speech, walks sharply; dress, blue serge suit, melton overcoat, black hard felt hat. A book publisher's canvasser; supposed a native of Bristol. He presented a number cf bogus orders for an Encyclopaedia, on which he re- ceived commission. Warrant issued. GLOUCES TERSHIRE. 13. - Gloucester ( County . — For stealing ( bailee) 23 sheep— JONAS HANCOCK, age 35, height about 5 ft. 2 ins., complexion fresh, hair dark, eyes blue, rather bow- legged, turns his feet outwards when walking. A farmer; native cf Devonshire. May be accompanied by his wife and 2 young children. Warrant issued. 14.-— Gloucester ( County).— For abducting a girl— REGINALD CRYER, age 33, height 5 ft. 8 ins., slight build, hair and moustache sandy, aquiline nose ( bridge has been injured), of good ad- dress; dress, light green tweed suit, tweed cap, brown boots; a clerk, supposed a native of Man- chester ; had in his possession a cheque on Lloyd's Bank, signed M. Bradish and Walter R. Hadwen. Has been to South Africa, where it is believed lie lias been convicted of fraud and has probably served in the Army. He booked to Birmingham 22nd inst., accompanied by the girl, age 17 ( looks older), height about 5 ft. 3 ins., round face, slight blotches on forehead; dress, light grey or brown costume, large sun hat, brown boots, may be wear- ing a brown mackintosh. Has been employed as a typist. Had with them a light straw dress bas- ket, lady's umbrella under straps. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. HAMPSHIRE. 15.— Aldershot ( County).— For stealing £ 20, 17th inst.— A MAN, age 18, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., slight build, complexion dark, hair brown, eyes small, scar right side of head; dress, greenish suit and cap. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 16 — Gosport ( County). — On commitment warrant for non- payment of £ 3 bastardy arrears and costs— ALFRED ERNEST KINGSHOTT, age 23, height 6 ft. ins., leans forward, com- plexion pale, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes hazel, horseshoe, crossed whips, jockey cap, good luck, scroll and knot left forearm, bracelet left wrist, pierced heart right forearm; dress greenish suit, cap, lace boots. A native of Gosport. Has served 5 years in the Royal Navy. Information to Supt. Cottle, Gosport. LANCASHIRE. 17— Old \ Trafford ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings at Stretford between 15th and 18th inst., a gold pin, diamond in centre; 1 do. ring, set stone shape of a woman's head; 1 9- ct. do. signet ring; 1 silver cigarette case, initials " G. R. R.'' on one corner; 1 pair gold cuff links, oval, engraved; 1 black leather pocket wallet— A MAN, age 30 to 34, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., com- plexion fresh, moustache light sandy; dress, dark jacket and vest, grey trousers, black hard felt hat, lace boots. Stated he was a traveller in the silk trade. Information to Supt Crossley, Old Trafford. 18 - Liverpool ( City).— For stealing £ 53, 17th inst,— FREDERICK WELLS, age 37, height 5 ft. 6 ins., good build, complexion fair, sunburnt, clean shaven, scar over right eye, upper teeth pro- trude, dagger tattooed on right leg, basket of flowers left calf, American accent; dress, new brown suit, blue bow tie, new bowler hat, tan colour shoes with heavy soles. A marine fireman; was paid off from the ss. Orissa 17th inst. His discharge book is believed to be No. 5515. 19 — Liverpool ( City).— For stealing £ 81, 22nd inst.— ROBERT REDFORD, age 46, height 5 ft. 9 ins., stout build, full red face, hair sandv, heavy moustache, eyes blue, front teeth decayed, stoops slightly, rough appearance; dress, shabby dark grey jacket and trousers, with dark stripes, dark vest, knot tie, peak cap. About 2 years ago he was employed in Kent, picking hops, peas, and strawberries. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. , 20.— St. Helens ( Boro. if/ fi).— Amended in- formation, Case 36, 19th inst.— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences, also stealing a watch and chain ( recovered), 15th inst.— HARRY SMITH, alias HARRY S. BARNETT, BIRCH, BENNETT, and CLEGG, Office No. 2772- 02, age 31, height 5 ft. 3 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes grey, mole and birthmark right side of neck, mole and two dots right forearm. A tailor, native of Windhill, Yorkshire. Convicted at Win- chester, Bradford, Dewsbury, Wakefield, Leeds, Windsor and Salford. Also wanted at Warring- ton. Warrant issued. 21.— St. Helens ( Borovc/ h).— For obtaining 4s. by fraud, 28th ult.— H. TIERNAN, age 35 to 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., stout build, coin plexion ruddy, full round face, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, walks erect; wearing dark grey tweed overcoat, black bowler hat. He calls upon Roman Catholics, represents that he has a large number of luminous crucifixes for sale, in- duces persons to pay for same, gives a reoeipt signed H Tiernan, 52a, Deansgate, Manchester, and promises to deliver the article the following day. LEICES TERSHIRE. 22.— Loughborough ( County\ — For ob- taining lis. 8d., by false pretences— STEVENSON EDDY, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., com- plexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, promi- nent chin; dress, brown suit, " Sydney, Australia'' on loop, green soft felt hat. He obtained the amount on the pretence of sending a cablegram to Australia; stated he was walking around the world, and that about 100 visitors from Australia for the Coronation were arranging a motor trip from London, and he was supplying information as to the route. Warrant issued. 23.— Loughborough ( County).— For steal- ing, 5th inst., an iron- grey nag mare, 7 years, 15 hands, head lighter colour than body, hog mane, near hind fetlock Slightly swollen NATHAN' SMITH, age 45 to 50, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 ins.; complexion fresh, hair dark, clean shaved; dress, blue suit, hard felt hat, of smart appearance, a low horsedealer. He travels the country in a very elaborate caravan, painted green, picked out gilt, carved front, lion's head each side of front near top, large brass lamps, green canvas covering around sides. MONMOUTHSHIRE. 24.— Abertillery ( County).— For stealing a lady's 9- ct. gold watch, enlamelled back, steel hands, silver dial, 1170 scratched inside of outer case; 1 9- ct gold bangle, curb pattern, padlock and chain; 1 gold diamond ring, claw setting; and one long gold guard ( recovered)— WILLIAM MUNDY, age 20, ( looks older), height about 5 ft. 9 ins., rather rounel shoulders, complexion pale, hair brown, eyes blue, cut scar on upper lip; dress, dark brown plaid suit, large pockets, peak cap. A native of Abertillery. May be found hawking fish. Warrant issued. Information to Inspector Lewis, Abertillery. NOR THA MPTONSHJRE. 25.— Peterborough ( City).— For stealing a brown leather case containing a calabash pipe, with amber stem, and 2 silver mounts; also a to- bacco'pouch ( recovered)- THOMAS MERaON alias ARTHUR THOMPSON, GEORGE BAT- TY, THOMAS EARL, and ROGERS, age dl, height 5 ft. ins., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, scar over right eye, burn scar from shoulder to hip, scar ba « k right forearm; dress, dark grey suit, dark brown cap, light tie, blue- ette jacket. He seeks employment at print- ing works, and asks for assistance. Previously convicted of larceny atOldharn, Leicester, Notting- ham, Watford, Edinburgh, and Cambridge. Warrant issued. RADNORSHIRE. 2G.— Llandrindod Wells ( County).— For stealing from hisToagings 19th inst., at Knighton, a pigskin purse, containing £ 3— A MAN, age abftut 25, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, two front upper teeth missing; dress, blue serge suit, buttons with horses' heads thereon on vest. He booked to Swansea 20th inst. Information to Supt. Jones, Llandrindod Wells. SHROPSHIRE. 27 — Wellington ( County).— For embezzle- ment— lOHN GREAVES, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 5~ or 6 Ins., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark brown, eyes hazel, cut mark over left eye and left side of mouth, lame right foot; dress, dark brown suit, dark grey overcoat and cap, light lace boots. A fitter. Was employed as manager at a branch cycle shop. Left St. George's 3rd inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Fulcher, Wellington. 5 TA FFORDSHIRE. 28.— Lichfield ( County). — For stealing jewellery 22nd inst.- T. SEMRO, age 29, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion fresh, hair light brown, eyes hazel, London accent; dress, blue serge suit, cap, Tace boots. Performs conjuring tricks, and plays tunes on glasses in public houses. Has in his possession testimonials from several mili- tary barracks. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Oakden, Lichfield. SUSSEX ( East.) 29.— Brighton ( Borough). — For stealing^ between 16th and 20th inst., a lady's f- length Canadian mink fur coat, turn- down collar, trimmed tails, lined brown brocaded silk; 1 black serge costume, embroidered; 1 black satin Princess dress, trimmed royal blue; 1 cream silk blouse, floral pattern; 1 black and white spotted silk blouse, trimmed royal blue; 1 black satin scarf, lined white satin, black silk tassels at ends; 1 grey check lounge suit, makers, " Everitt, Maddock Street," oil tab inside breast pocket, also maker's name on trousers buttons; 1 green jacket, 1 pair of brown trousers, makers, " Everitt, Maddock Street"; 1 pair of lady's patent leather lace boots, calf tops, size 5 ; 1 pair of lady's brown shoes, size 5, gilt buckles; 1 pair of lady's patent leather shoes, size 5 ; 1 pair of patent leather lace boots, size 9; 1 ivory back clothes brush; 1 large brown Gladstone bag with two straps, gilt fittings, and a set of furs ( recovered)— ADOLPH SCHMIDT, a German, age about 44, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 ins., hair and moustache light; dress, usually blue jacket, black trousers, alpine shape straw hat, and carries a mackintosh. A waiter. ' A WOMAN, age about 43, short, stoutish build, dressed usually in dark clothes. Information to the Chief Constable, Brighton. 50.— Hastings ( Borough).— For leaving his wife and family chargeable to the Hastings Union, — SIDNEY HUNT, age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 ins., complexion, hair, and eyes dark, clean shaven. An amateur boxer, native of London. May be found in boxing booths. Warrant issued Information to the Chief Constable, Hastings. YORKSHIRE ( North Riding). 31.- Guisborough ( County).— For- indecent- ly assaulting a woman near Moorsholm 15th inst. — JOHN CUTHBERT BRANNAN, age 34, height 5 ft. 7i ins., rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair brown, partly bald, slight moustache light, eyes blue, walks erect, speaks sharply; dress, dark grey jacket suit, dark cap. A shoemaker; native of Stockton. Carries a short thick stick. Occasionally tramps the country. Previously con- victed of vagrancy at Malton and Selby. LANCASHIRE. 41.— Liverpool ( City).— Charged with stealing money from an offertory box in a Roman Catholic Chapel 18th inst.— JOHN JOSEPH PHILIP CANNON, alias GEORGE SMITH, age 45, height 5 ft. 7 ins., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, left little finger contracted. A labourer; native of Glasgow. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued).— years' penal servitude for larceny, licensed 8th February last, i. 641. CARNARVONSHIRE. 42.— Conway ( County).— Remanded till 29th inst., charged with obtaining food, lodgings, and money by false pretences— FREDERICK RYAN TROUSDALE, alms SAMUEL HERBERT HEWSON, ALEXANDER GORDON, aud GEORGE GRANVILLE, age 23, height 5 ft. 6^ ins., complexion sallow, hair and eyes brown, cut scar back and left side of head, and over left eye, 3 marks on right shin, sometimes wears glasses; dress, navy blue jacket suit, greenish brown overcoat, soft felt hat. A native of Bristol. He took lodgings, stated he had just returned from California, and obtained money for the pur pose of getting his luggage from the station. Sup- posed wanted elsewhere.
