X" f OTICE.— For instructions as to the manner in which A-' reports are required to be furnished for the com- pilation of the Police Gazette see Gazette No. 1 of this year. The arrest of offenders described in the Police Gazette, or respecting whom crime reports have been forwarded for insertion in the Gazette, should be promptly notified by the member of the Force effecting the arrest. When notifying the arrest of persons charged with theft or suspected of theft, it should be stated whether the pro perty stolen, or any portion of it, has been recovered. A description of property supposed to be stolen, found in the possession of offenders, for which owners cannot be found, shall be furnished for insertion in the Gazette. All communications concerning this Gazette should be addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Wellington, and the envelope marked " For Gazette." Members of the . Force in charge of out- stations will forward them direct. PERSONS WANTED. AUCKLAND. — 24th February last, on warrant of com- mitment to Mount Eden Prison for three days in default of paying £ 1 13s. fine and costs for a breach of the City By- laws, John McKendrick, age twenty- four, height height 5 ft. 10 in., hawker, native of New Zealand, somewhat cross- eyed, walks smartly. He is now said to be in Sydney. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 119.) THAMES.— 22nd ultimo, that a summons may be served him for using threatening language, Charles Hart, age twenty- four, height 5 ft. 3 in., bone and bottle gatherer, native of New Zealand, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes, clean- shaved, medium build ; generally wears dark suit and cap. He was formerly a groom and horse- trainer, and drives round the oountry gathering bones and bottles, & c. ( See Police Gazette, 1909, pages 351 and 368.) If located, wire Inspeotor of Police, Thames. HAMILTON.— 2nd February last, on warrant of commit- ment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying 15s. fine and costs for drunkenness, James Ward, age forty- one, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of Ireland, strong build, dark- brown hair, blue eyes, " Annie," crown, and clasped hands on left forearm, girl, butterfly, crown, and other tattoo marks on right forearm. NGARUAWAHIA.— 10th instant, on warrant of commit- ment to Mount Eden Prison for seven days in default of paying £ 1 153. fine and oosts for being drunk and disorderly, Mawhi Hapeta, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 7in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, copper com- plexion, black hair, clean- shaved, brown eyes. He is well known to the Hamilton police. NGARUAWAHIA.— 2nd ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £ 2 4s. fine and costs, Joseph Denton, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and seaman, supposed native of England, medium build, fair complexion and hair, clean- shaved ; dressed in dark suit and cap ; addicted to drink. HUNTLY.— 20th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Mount Eden Prison for seven days in default of paying £ 1 5s. fine and costs for threatening behaviour, Horace Murphy, age twenty- three, height 5 ft. 5 in., miner, native of Aus- tralia, medium build, very dark complexion ( has the appear- ance of a half- caste), full face, dark- brown hair and eyes, clean- shaved ; generally wears dark suit and dark hard hat; fond of drink. MARTON.— 5th instant, on warrant for theft of a horse, saddle, and bridle ( recovered), the property of John John- ston, farmer, value £ 15, John Rippon, age about forty, height 5 ft. 3 in., labourer, native of England, dark com- plexion and hair, heavy dark moustache only, medium build, speaks with a strong Cockney accent; dressed in dark suit and cap ; fond of drink. He was employed on a threshing- mill, and obtained the use of the horse, saddle, and bridle from complainant, and sold them for £ 6. SHANNON.— 5th September last, on warrant for failing to provide his wife, Hilda Isabel Wilson, with adequate means of support, Robert Wilson, age thirty- four, height 5 ft. 7 in. or 8 in., jockey and trainer, native of Victoria, medium build, dark complexion, black hair turning grey, grey eyes, clean- shaved, bow- legged; generally wears navy- blue suit and hard black hat or cap. He is said to have been seen in Christchurch about February last. MARTINBOROUGH.— 9th ultimo, on warrant for wilfully causing injury to a bull, the property of John Martin, by firing at him with a pea- rifle, Alfred Collins, age forty, height 5 ft. 10in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown eyes, light- brown moustache, brown hair, walks lame ; dressed in dark- tweed suit and soft hat. [* APRIL- 5 WELLINGTON.— 20th instant, on warrant for deserting from the barque " Ariel," Ole Reinertsen and Oskar Huseby. First: Age twenty- four, height 5 ft. 6 in., sea- man, native of Norway, medium build, fair hair and com- plexion, weak light- blue eyes, nervous trembling manner, speaks English imperfectly. Second : Age twenty- three, height 5ft. 4in., native of Norway, stout build, swarthy complexion, good teeth, active appearance, speaks English fairly well; dressed in brown suit. WELLINGTON.— 13th July last, on warrants for breaches of the Bankruptcy Act, Edward Wilfred Jacobs, age twenty- eight, height 5 ft. 3 in. or 4 in., clerk and proprietor of bakery business, well built, fresh complexion, fair curly hair, full face, may be clean- shaved, blue eyes; good ap- pearance, dresses well; usually wears kid gloves ; smokes cigars and cigarettes. Photograph filed in the Inspector's Office, Wellington. He left for Sydney in August last, and was declared bankrupt on above date, and is now charged with contracting debts without any reasonable expectation of paying the same, and failing to keep the usual business books. Extradition expenses guaranteed. WELLINGTON.— James Boyd, wanted on warrant for deserting from the s. s. " Ruapehu " : It has been ascer- tained by Constable J. Dempsey, Wellington police, that offender signed on the s. s. " Star of Canada " for London on the 6th January last, under the name of P. Yarker. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 2.) GREYMODTH.— 23rd December, on warrant of commit- ment to Hokitika Prison for nine days in default of paying £ 2 13s. fine and costs for wilful damage and refusing to quit lioensed premises, John Millar, age thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., fireman, native of South Africa, slim build, dark hair, fresh complexion, blue eyes, dark moustache, thin features, prominent nose, stooped shoulders, woman's head, clasped hands, and horse- shoe tattooed on right fore- arm, star and " 0. K." in monogram tattooed on left fore- arm ; dressed in brown suit, tan button- up boots, and hard hat. WESTPORT.— 6th instant, for failing to comply with the terms of his release under the First Offenders' Probation Act, Sidney Parker, age twenty- five, height 5ft. 9in., miner, native of England, slim build, brown hair, blue eyes, medium build, powder- mark between the eyes; dressed in dark suit and hard hat. He was convicted of assault at Westport on the 7th December last, and sentenced to twelve months' probation. He left for Wellington in December last, and will attempt to leave the Dominion. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, page 540.) CHRISTCHORCH.— 11th instant, on warrant for intending to fail to provide his wife, Eleanor Catherine McGill Reid, with adequate means of support, John Reid, age thirty- five, height 5ft. 8Jin., barman, native of Scotland, medium build, fair complexion and hair, clean- shaved ; dressed in greenish- coloured tweed sac suit and soft- felt hat, dark tie with white spots ; wears black gold- mounted ribbon guard. He was employed at the Clarendon Hotel, and left on the above date for Wellington. He is known to his intimates as " Bland Holt." GERALDINE.— William Wilkins, alias Owen, alias Brookes, & c., wanted on warrant for theft of a bioycle, the property of Angus Jameson Bell : Offender is now said to be about thirty- six years of age, and not twenty as previ- ously reported. The stolen bicycle has been recovered. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 164.) RAKAIA.— Frank Meagher, wanted for escaping from legal custody, was seen near his mother's residence in Waimate on the 10th instant, and may be found at some of the South Canterbury country stations. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 164.) DUNEDIN. — 14th ultimo, that he may be served with a summons for using obscene language, John Patrick Woods, age twenty- nine, height 5ft. 7 in., labourer, medium build, dark complexion, has a small lump on left side of face, clean- shaved, only one tooth in upper jaw dressed in dark- blue suit and cap ; dirty appearance. DUNEDIN.— Between the 1st and 3rd instant, on warrant for breaking and entering the foundry of Walker, Marriage, and Co., and stealing therefrom about £ 2 10s., Charles Chisnal, age seventeen, height 5 ft. 6 in. or 7 in., foundry | labourer, native of New Zealand, stoutish build, fair oom- plexion, pimples on face; dressed in dark- grey suit and cap, soft shirt ; dirty appearance. He was employed in the foundry, and a pocket- knife and sock identified as belonging to him were found in the office from whence the money was stolen. DUNEDIN.— 12th instant, that he may be induced to con- tribute towards the support of his wife, Alfred George Moore, age fifty- five, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, moustache, and side- whiskers, bald on top of head ; dressed in dark- tweed suit. DUNEDIN.— 19th instant, that a summons may be served on him for committing a grossly indecent act, George Rackley, age fifty- three, height 5ft. 5^ in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, light- brown eyes, star, " G. R.," and wreath on right arm, " M. R.," anchor, cross, hearts, & c., on left arm. ( See Police Gazette, 1906, page 282.) APPREHENSIONS, PERSONS FOUND, ETC. AUCKLAND.— William Scott, default of fine, has been arrested by Constable M. Gourley, Queen Street Wharf police, and amount paid. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 77.) AUCKLAND.— William Sedgwick Kent was found at Masterton by Acting- Detective Abbott, Wellington polioe, and handed over to Mr. Earl, at Wellington. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 100.) AUCKLAND.— Harry Crook, theft, has been arrested by Sergeant Crean and Constable Beddek, Thames police, and remanded. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 163.) AUCKLAND.— William Spittlehouse, default of fine, has been arrest- d by Detective Cassells and Acting- Detective Mason, Wellington police, and amount paid. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 147.) WAIHI.— Richard Brooking, default of maintenance: Warrant cancelled. ( See Police Gazette, 1910, pages 449 and 484.) WANGANUI.— Albert Treves, or Trebes, failing to pro- vide for the maintenance of his children, has been located by Constable Maher, Taumarunui police, on information sup- plied by Constable A. ' PALMERSTON NORTH.- John Henry Heath, theft and absconding from industrial school, has been arrested by Constable Magee, Parnell police. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, pages 110, 129, and 148..) LEVIN.— David McKeown, absconding from the Train- ing- farm, Weraroa, has been arrested by Acting- Detectives Osborn and Snow on a charge of consorting with thieves and prostitutes. His return to the school is not desired. ( See Police Gazette, 1907, page 4.) EKETAHUNA.— William May has returned to his home. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 133 ) MASTERTON.— John McConvill, breach of the Licensing Act, is at present serving a sentence of one month in Lyttel- ton Prison ,' or obscene language. When arrested he was going under the name of Joseph O'Connell. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 164.) WELLINGTON.— Walter Joseph Chisnall, default of maintenance, has been arrested by Detectives Ward and Gibson, Christchurch police. ( See Police Gazette, 1909, page 146.) PAPAKURA.— 13th ultimo, from the hut of CARL MATSON an English silver lever open- faced watch, rust- mark in lower part of second- hand ; a pair of blue- tweed trousers, size 4, " C. M." in ink on inside of waistband ; two soft white shirts, one with collar and one without, " C. M." on them in ink : value, £ 5 lis. Suspicion attached to John Evans, age fifty- five, height 5 ft. 3 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, grey moustache only ; dressed in grey suit ^ and bard black hat; fond of drink, and very noisy when in liquor. FRANKTON JUNCTION.— 23rd March last, the property of WILLIAM THOMAS BARRY, a dark- brown hack mare, aged, about 15£ hands high, white mark under near eye where skin had been knocked off, near hind leg slightly lame; value, £ 10. ASHBURTON.— 17th instant, from the dwelling of JOHN TEMPLETON OLSEN, sawmill hand, two £ 1 notes, sup- posed on Bank of Australasia ( one partly worn) ; a blue sac suit with slit at back of coat, diagonal pattern with narrow green stripe every inch, made to fit man 5 ft. 9 in. high, coat had tab with " John Swanson, tailor, Ashburton," on it, value, £ 3 ; a five- pointed gold star ( Orange emblem), with monogram " J. T. O." on back, value £ 1 10j. ; also a yellow emblem, size of shilling, with words " Church of Christ, Dunedin, 1910," thereon ( both emblems attached to an almost worthless nickel watch- chain with small ordinary round links, to which was also annexed a small heart- shaped glass gold- mounted locket, and a threepenny piece) ; a double- bar gold brooch, with scroll at each end and spray in centre, " P. W.," or " P. Ware," at back, value £ 2. Identifiable. Suspicion attached to some passing Burnham boy. Yard" on inside of front case ; a ladies' hunting- watch ; a gold cable bangle, set with a paarl in each link ; a gold cross, set with pearls and turquoises ; a gold heart locket, photograph of man and child in it ; a gold muff- chain, long square links joined together with small round link ; a gold brooch, two half- moon pattern, set with pearls and sapphires; a gold brooch, consisting of two birds holding a gold chain, with heart attached ; a lad: es' gold ring, set with emeralds and diamonds; a ladies' gold ring, " Margaret '„' on it; a child's gold bangle, with small chain attached; and two small silver rope- pattern bangles, set with rubies. CLYDE QUAY ( WELLINGTON). — FREDERICK HUGH JAMIESON'S bicycle has been found abandoned at Kaitoke, and returned to the owner. ( Sea Police Gazette, 1910, page 95.) CHRISTCHURCH. - HORATIO FLETCHER'S watch- chain and pendant have been recovered. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 132.) SOUTH DUNEDIN. — ALBERT HALL'S bicycle has been found, and returned to the owner. ( See Police Gazette, 1911, page 165.) DESERTER FROM HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE. From H. M. S. " Pyramus." On 5th April, 1911. SYDNEY.— Noel Thomas Gildroy Mulholland, age twenty, height 5ft. 7in, seaman, native of Newtown, Sydney, black hair, dark- grey eyes, fresh complexion, scar on left forefinger. A reward not exceeding £ 3 will be paid for his apprehension. MISSING. THAMES.— Since 3rd instant, Wilfred George Grossie Bay ley, age sixteen, well built, farm labourer, native of New Zealand, very dark curly hair. He was working on a farm at Netherton, and left in company with a youth named Maurice Bond, age twenty two, dark hair, red faoe, ginger moustache. Inquiry by his father, that he may be induced to return home. WAIPUKURAU.— Since 27th February last, John Harris, age about thirty- five, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fair hair, fair moustache only; fond of drink. He is rather ecoentric, and fears are enter- tained for his safety. Inquiry by Donald King, farmer. WELLINGTON.— Since 10th instant, Robert War- burton, ago thirty- six, height 5 ft. 8in., labourer, native of Victoria, medium build, dark hair ( slightly bald on top), ruddy complexion, brown moustache only, very deaf; dressed in brown- tweed suit, soft- felt green hat, soft shirt, opera- tion- scars on right side and arm. He left his lodgings in Belfast Street suddenly without any reason, and feats aie entertained for his safety. [" APRIL 26 OTIRA.— Since 13th ultimo, Alexander Stewart, age thirty- four, height about 5ft. 10 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, medium build, clean- shaved except reddish moustache, fair hair, fresh complexion, very broad forehead : dressed in grey suit and cap ; very neat appearance. He had a contract to build a house, and left for Greymouth to purchase tools, and has not been heard of since. His mother resides in Clyde Street, Dunedin. ASHBURTON.— Since 22nd ultimo, Hugh McKillop, age eighty, height 5 ft. 11 in., gold- miner, fresh healthy com- plexion, " grey clipped whisker:--, slightly fctooped. EXTRACTS FROM NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE. ( From Gazette, 1911, pages 1339, 1340, and 1348.) Shooting Season for Imported Game, License Fee, ct- c., Grey District Acclimatization District. ISLINGTON, Governor. XN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson- Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby notify that the following im- ported game— viz., hares— may be killed within the Grey District Acclimatization District, comprising the County of Grey ( except in the areas mentioned in the Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, to the thirty- first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, both days inclusive. And I do further notify that licenses to kill such im- ported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each; and that the Chief Postmaster at Greymouth is hereby appointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. SCHEDULE. AREAS WHEREIN IMPORTED GAME SHALL NOT BE KILLED. ALL lands notified or set apart as sanctuaries or reserves for the preservation of imported or native game. As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this fifteenth day of April, one thousand nine hundred and eleven. D. BUDDO, Minister of Internal Affairs. IN exercise of the powers vested in me by the Animals Protection Act, 1908, I, John Poynder Dickson- Poynder, Baron Islington, the Governor of the Dominion of New Zea- land, do hereby notify that the following imported game— viz., cock pheasants and Californian quail— may be killed within the Feilding and District Acclimatization District, described in the First Schedule hereto ( except in the areas mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto), from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, to the thirty- first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, both days inclusive. And I do further notify that licenses to kill such imported game within the said district shall be issued to any person on payment of the sum of twenty shillings each. And I do further notify that the following native game- viz., grey duck, native pigeon, and pukeko— may be killed within the above- mentioned oistrict ( except in the areas mentioned in the Second Schedule hereto) from the first day of May, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, to the thirty- first day of July, one thousand nine hundred and eleven, both days inclusive; and that the Postmasters at Feilding, Kimbolton, Apiti, and Ashhurst are hereby ap- pointed to sign and issue the said licenses to kill imported game. FIRST SCHEDULE.
