All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YAKD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear m number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Pest Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepttdj will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should b* prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within th* United Kingdom. CHARLES LE BRETON, alias CHARLES E. DOWN- TON, Case No. 9, 20th inst., is identical with WILLIAM COPELAND, Office No. 3168- 97, age 70, scar right side throat, right cheek, back of head, abscess scar left and right side of neck, flat feet. Sentenced to 5 and 5 years penal servitude ( concurrent) and 5 years police supervision at Lewes Quarter Sessions, lst January, 1907, and Hastings Quarter Sessions, 22nd January, 1907; has also been convicted at Cardiff, Usk, Ayles- bury, Gloucester, Eastbourne, Hove, Salford, Plymouth, Nottingham, Liverpool, Stafford and London. BUCKINGHA MS HI RE. 11 . — High Wycombe { County). — For stealing lead ( recovered) — EUSTACE HUP- FIELD, age 31, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, busts of two women, heart and clasped hands, tiger, S. Africa and roses left forearm, lion, woman and soldier right forearm; dress, dark blue overcoat, navy blue jacket, dark mixture vest with red and white stripes, dark trousers, greenish cap, dark blue muffler with white stripes, boots with pointed toes. A labourer; native of London. Sometimes em- ployed as a groom and gardener. Has served in the Army. Convicted of sheep stealing in June, 1909, and previously bound over for stealing a bicycle. Warrant issued. 12. — High Wycombe { County). — For failing to appear to a summons for using indecent language— JOHN McEWEN, age 49, height 6 ft. 2 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair dark brown, moustache light, eyes grey; dress, light coat and vest, light cord trousers, grey cap, white muffler. A labourer. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Summers, High Wycombe. CA MB RIDGES HIRE. 11.— Cambridge { Borough).— For obtaining money by false pretences, 16th inst.— — BAKER, alias W. ANDSARLL, age about 35, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., hair, beard and moustache dark; wearing dark overcoat, bowler hat or cap, lace boots. He called upon builders, decorators, nurserymen, etc., stated he was a gardener to a gentleman who had bought or hired a large house in the town, gave orders for repairs, etc., thereby obtained money, and absconded. A clerk; native of London. May have in his possession a cheque book on the National Provincial Bank of England, Corn Street, Bristol, Branch, containing cheques, Nos i02311 to £ 02333. He obtains names and addresses and calls upon persons who have rela- tives in Canada, representing that he is well- known to them, and will be glad to take back with him to Canada whatever they may wish to send Also steals from his lodgings. HAMPSHIRE. 16.— Cosport ( County).— For obtaining 2s. 7d. by false pretences, 3rd inst.— FLORENCE PARKS, age about 40, height about 5 ft. 2 in., inclined to be stout, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) dark, eyes brown, 2 or 3 front upper teeth missing. On 3rd inst. she called upon a lady in answer to an advertisement for a cook, was engaged to come in on a later date, and ob- tained the money for the purpose of paying her return fare to Petersfield. Cottle, Gosport. 17.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For leaving his children chargeable to the Parish— WILLIAM FREDERICK DOLLERY, age 40, height 5 ft. 10 in., complexion fresh, long haggard face, hair and eyes brown, moustache dark; dressed as a labourer. Has been a seaman. He tramps the country and may be found at common lodging houses or casual wards. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. Ball, alleged to be a chief mate on s. s. Thames, in the employ of Messrs. Carron & Co., Buchanan Street, Glasgow— F. BALL, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion, hair and moustache dark; dress, dark navy blue or black suit, black tie, wearing a seaman's peaked cap. Of foreign appearance. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. LANARKSHIRE. 1Q— Glasgow ( City).— For obtaining £ 37 16s. by a worthless cheque — FREDERICK McFARLANE, alias EDWARD ST. JOHN, Office No. 1683- 05, Case No. 11, 16th December last, age 38, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion sallow, hair brown, eyes blue, prominent straight nose, clean shaved; dresses well, generally wears a heavy greenish overcoat with strap at back. LANCASHIRE. 20.— Preston ( Borough).— For stealing a cash box ( recovered), and £ 105, including a £ 5 note, at a temperance hotel, 14th inst.— A MAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion sallow, hair, moustache and eyes dark brown, of smart appearance; dress, fawn colour mackintosh, dark jacket suit, black hard felt hat. NOR THUMBERLA NO. 21.— Morpeth ( County).— For embezzling £ 5 19s. 8d., between lst November and 10th Decem- ber, 1910— ROBERT DUNN, age about 27, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown, prominent nose, thick upper lip, appears to have been cut, walks with quick long strides, and swings his arms. A spirit merchant's clerk; native of Glasgow. Absconded 31st December, 1910. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Morpeth. M— Newcastle- on- 7yne ( City).— For obtaining £ 5 by false pretences, 14t inst.— JAMES W. BENSON, age 51 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 11 in., complexion fresh, hair ( slightly bald each side of head) light, eyes ( short sighted, left may be artificial) blue, wears pince- nez or spectacles, artificial teeth with gold setting; always well dressed. He opened an office as a moneylender and advertised for employees, engaged three, from whom he obtained as securities £ 200, £ 50 and £ 20 respectively, on 14th inst., contracted debts with several tradesmen, after the banks were closed, issued worthless cheques for more than the amount, and received the balance. May be found asso- ciating with horse dealers of doubtful character. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne. SUSSEX ( East). 23.— Hastings ( Borough).— For obtaining a cheque for £ 5 by false pretences— ALFRED FULLER, age about 23, height 5 ft. 3 in., slight build, complexion and hair dark, clean shaved, several right upper teeth missing; dress, dark tweed suit, dark tie, bowler hat, lace boots. He negotiated for the purchase of a stationery busi- ness, and on the pretence that he had no change, obtained a cheque for £ 5, tendered one drawn on the London and South Western Bank, which was found to have been stolen.
