All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to tliem, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, ithe name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted ait a cost of 8s. per portrait, und eitgiuvuigs of stolen property at a cost of ( is. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is requireni to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less tank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 8 Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tue » day edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, yew Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " ure only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) wilt be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. THE EDITOR, New Scotland ^ aid. A costermonger; native of Plaistow. May seek em- ployment in hopfields in Kent. 4. — X Division. — For stealing a sewing machine ( recovered)— LILIAN BENNETT, age 23, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, deep burn scar left wrist, subject to fits; dress, light skirt, black jacket, green felt hat, trimmed coloured ribbon. Accompanied by Olive Ada Bennett, age 2. A native of Harlesden. Warrant issued. 5.— X Division.— For stealing about 16th ult., a motor car, make " Pricket and Gould ", 12- 16 h p. Blake engine, 4 cylinders, 3 speeds forward, 1 reverse, 2 seats, chain driven, accumulator ignition, colour French grey, lined blue, upholstered green leather, had identification plate H. 6611 — HENRY JOHN GLANVILLE HARPER, age 21. height 5ft. 9ins„ slight build, complexion pale, hair brown, eyes grey, stammers when excited, well dressed. BERKSHIRE. 7.— Reading ( Borough).— For obtaining £ 5, 4s. 3id. by false pretences, 2nd inst.— G. SMITH, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion* hair ( inclined to curly), and moustache dark; dress, dark blue serge suit, straw hat, spring side boots, appearance of a seaman. He called at a MVTB^ CTPTO7 7s' ' grocer's shop, also a boot shop, stated he had taken IVF T. APT PATM\ roomS) ordered goods to be sent to his lodgings, and in payment tendered a Seaman's Advance Note, CITY OF LONDON. 6.— For fraudulent conversion, AUGUSTUS WILLIAM FINCH, age 41, height 6 ft., good sloping shoulders, com- build, inclined to stout, signed by the master of the ship W aimer Castle, payable to the order of " G. Smith " for £ 6, ob- tained the above amount as balance, and absconded. The note has since been found to be a forgery. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. 8. — Windsor ( Borough). — For obtaining food and lodgings by fraud— A. BOAKES, age 60 to 70, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, com- plexion pale, rather small features, hair white, walks badly; dress, long drab colour coat, Dlack skirt and bodice, straw hat, trimmed white flowers in front. Warrant issued. 9.— Windsor ( BoroughV— For obtaining £ 5 8s. 8^ d., and goods by false pretences, 20th ult.— F. DEAN, alias JOHN GRAY and MEREDITH, Office No. 359- 03, age 41, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes dark blue, clean shaved; dress, blue serge suit, peak cap with badge in front; appear- ance of a seaman. He called at one of the Co- operative Society's shops, stated that he had taken rooms in Windsor, that he desired to purchase goods that day, and eventually become a member; he also applied for a form of membership and ordered goods to the value of lis. 3Ad. The goods were supplied and he tendered in payment thereof a seaman's advance note signed by the master of the ship Avon, owners Messrs. Barron & Co., 125, Buchanan Street, Glasgow, payable to the order of F. Dean for £ 6. The note lias since been found to be a forgery. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Windsor. He belongs to the 3rd Battalion Oxford and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry. Booked to Euston on 1st inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jones, Aberystwyth. DERBYSHIRE. 12.— Button ( County). — For obtaining by false pretences, 26th ult., a pair of riding breeches, whip cord cloth, grey and dark mixture, laced at knees; 1 dark brown and grey mixture Donegal jacket, strap across back; and a light herring. bone cap— WALTER GLADSTONE EVANS ( sup- posed ' false), age 21, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion fair, thin face, sharp features, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes dark, tobacco stains on fingers; wearing the stolen clothing, mauve tie, brown boots and stockings. Stated he belonged to a firm of builders and engineers at Leicester. Had with him a " Premier" bicycle, straight handle bars, 26 in. frame, 28 by lj in. tyres, luggage carrier at back, strap for toe clips, roller brakes, mudguards damaged, double sound- ing bell. He also obtained 2 pairs of brown boots, sizes Si- and 9. Left behind a pair of Freeman, Hardy apd Willis " Vanguard" boots, size 9, a grey coat, and cycling knickers. Warrant issued. DURHAM. 13— Stockton- on- Tees ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, 29th ult., 2 ladies' rainproof coats ( 1 fawn colour; 1 a shade darker), tab on back of each, " The Mundelberg, Shower- proof, Free Ventilation" thereon, " Regd. Trade Mark' Cravenette, Proofed by the Cravenette Coy., Ltd.," stamped inside— THOMAS COATES, age 38, height 5 ft. 11 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and moustache light brown, left little finger deformed, of smart appearance; dress, grey jacket and vest, light breeches, brown leggings and boots, soft felt hat, carried a fawn colour over- coat. A farm labourer; native of Durham. Pre- viously convicted at Dover, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Carlisle, Durham, and Greta Bridge. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hildreth, Stockton- on- Tees. HILL, age about 48, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., good build, hair, moustache an<] eyes grey; dress, light grey suit, blue collar and front with white spots, light mixture cap, lace boots, Army pattern. A tramping baker. He obtained a situation, 27th ult., received money from customers, and absconded 31st ult., taking with him the baker's delivery book. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Phelps, Chipping Sodburv. 15.- Bristol ( City).— For stealing from the Salvation Army Shelter, 30th ult., a grey shirt with blue and white stripes; 1 blue serge vest; 1 dark jacket, herring bone pattern, with thin grey stripes; 1 nearly new Chesterfield overcoat, light brown stripes, flaps to outside pockets, chain tab; 1 gold stud; 1 white pocket handkerchief; and £ 3 13s. lid.— WILLIAM WILSON, age 27, height 5 ft. 6 in., good build, complexion ruddy, hair auburn, slight moustache, eyes blue- grey, lower lip quivers when about to speak, dimple in chin, carries his head forward, tattooed both arms, addicted to drink; dress, greenish striped T H E P O L I C E GAZETTE. trousers, green cap and belt, and the stolen pro- perty. KENT. 19. — Sevenoaks ( County\ — For stealing £ 147 15s. 9| d., monies of a Co- operative Society, 1 between 20th and 27th ult.— WALTER JONES, age 35 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion pale, hair ( receding from forehead, tinged grfy above ears), and moustache dark brown, eyes brown, suffers from tender feet, walks with head back, small lump between shoulder blades, twitches fingers when speaking. Fond of racing, may be found in the company of bookmakers; dress, dark blue suit and tie, white straw hut, black band. A native of Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Taylor, Sevenoaks. 20.- Canterbury ( City).— For stealing from his lodgings, 5th inst., a lady's 3- hoop band gold ring, " S" in blue enamel thereon; 2 plaid cash- mere head shawls ( 1 red, 1 yellow pattern); 2 large plain white silk handkerchiefs; 1 light grey woollen jacket suit with dark stripes ( nearly new); and £ 3 VINCENT FIORINO, an Italian, age about 26, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion dark, 1 air and slight moustache black, eyes dark brown; FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 1( 3, 1910. dress, dark grey jacket suit ( or the stolen suit), red neckerchief, dark grey cap, brown canvas slippers. Travels the country with a fortune telling machine, viz., a round bottle containing three small images affixed to a pole. Stated his intention of proceeding to Scotland. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Canterbury. 21 — Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining 2s. by false pretences— A WOMAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, thin white face; dress, blue coat and skirt, white blouse, large black hat trimmed two black feathers, carried a small black hand bag and umbrella. She calls at small houses and represents she is agent for The Supply Stores, High Street, Mar- gate, solicits orders for goods to be supplied, and obtains a deposit. ( Is identical with Woman Case No. 12, 2nd inst.) Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. 22.— Manchester ( City).- For failing to report, and larceny ( lodgings)— Licence- holder THOMAS ATKINSON, Office No. 1585- 04, age 62, height 5 ft. 4{ in., complexion fresh, hair ( tlrin on top) and eyes grey, 3 moles right cheek, scar front left wrist. A spinner; native of Chorley. Sentenced at Liverpool Assizes, 7th May, 1908, to 3 years penal servitude for larceny. Licenced 30th July, 1910. i 257.
