T H E POLICE GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SKRIES. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communica- tions relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In. all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some perton responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of Persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted ait a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen • property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. FRIDAY, AUGUST 19, 1910. VOL. XXVII., No. 2780. 8 Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usuai form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons " are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Represented she was an In- spector of Laundries. Warrant issued. 5.— Luton { Borough).— For stealing. 9th inst., £ 17— A MAN, who gave the name Barry, age 43, looks older, height 5 ft. 9 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair ( thin) grey, moustache ginger, turning grey; dress, blue suit, greenish colour cap, lace boots,; is fond of playing the piano; stays at small public houses. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Luton. BUCKINGHAMSHIRE. G.— Chesham { County).— For stealing 3rd inst., at Chalfont St. Peter, a pair of boots, 1 pair trousers and silk handkerchief— MARY HARRIS, age 40, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., strong build, complexion fair, hair brown, eyes light blue, scar left cheek; dress, black hat, greenish colour cape, blue and red plaid blouse, blue flowered skirt, white apron. May be found col- lecting rags and bones. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Had with them a portmanteau, which they leave at public houses. Probably seeking work in the Fens. R." on both doors, " Newmarket 406 " on plate on back— JOHN CROOKS, age 30 to 33, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., slight build, splay feet; dress, light grey jacket suit, also had with him a brown overcoat with large pearl buttons, a cabdriver. A native of Cam- bridge. Was seen at Epping, 16tli ult., making towards London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cambridge. Warrant issued. 11. — Bangor { County). — For stealing, 9tli inst., at Port Dinorwic, a small silver lever watch, gold hinges, black hands and numerals, indenta- tion on case— TWO MEN, 1st age about 25. height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., slight build, complexion very sallow, high cheek bones, pimples or moles on face; dress, navy blue or black jacket, dark trousers, with large patch of striped grey material on seat, extending down left leg, cap; 2nd,. age 25 to 80, height 5ft. 9 or 10 in., dark complexion, slight dark moustache, long features, rather large nose; dress, dark cap, black jacket, black cord trousers, bell bottoms. 12.— Bangor { County).— For non- payment of £ 5 14s. maintenance arrears— DONALD ROBERT WATSON DRUMMOND, age 60, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue; a musical instrument dealer. CHESHIRE. 13. - Middlewich { County).— For stealing a pair of tailor's scissors ( recovered) at Sandbach—- JOHN CAIRNS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion pale, hair dark, parted in centre, Scotch accent, wears spectacles when working; dress, double breasted reefer jacket, dark tweed vest, brown do. trousers, dark cap. A tramping tailor. See Case No. 20, 12th inst. Warrant issued. li— Middlewich { County).— For rape at Goostrey, 7tli inst.— WILLIAM NORBURY, age 25 to 30, height about 5 ft. 5 in., complexion sallow, hair and eyes dark; dress, dark jacket, cord trousers, heavy boots. Thompson, Middlewich. 15. — Stockport { County). — For obtaining wearing apparel and money by false pretences, 30th ult,— THOMAS HENSHALL, age 45, height 5 ft. 5 in., complexion fresh, full round face, hair black ( curly), bald on top, moustache brown, waxed; dress, blue serge coat and trousers, fancy vest, brown mackintosh, black or drab hard felt hat; a bookmaker. Warrant issued. 17. — Renishaw [ County). — For indecent assault, 27th June last— LIPMAN HYMAN, a Jew, age 33, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair and moustache dark, large nose, very thick lips, pimply face; a mackintosh maker, is well known in Manchester. I'd.— Southend- on- Sea { County).— For deserting their wives and families, leaving them chargeable to the Rochford Union— ROBERT DENNISON, alias MORLEY and LOVELL, age 33, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, turning grey over temples, eyes blue, large spot tattooed front of right wrist. A painter; plays a banjo. Warrants issued. 20 — Southend- on- Sea ( County).— For stealing from her lodgings, 15th inst., a Llack leather purse, containing 10s.; 2 postal orders, issued at Plymouth ( 1 for £ 1, 1 for 14s.); 1 navy blue coat and skirt ( new); 1 do. dress, coat to match; 1 long grey dress coat; 1 blue veii; 1 pair brown kid gloves; 1 pair black leather shoes ( size 5) ; 1 small leather handbag ( greenish colour) ; 2 lady's hats ( 1 large white, roses around rim, 1 black)— EMILY ELLINGHAM, alias SMITH, age 22, looks older, height about 5 ft. 3 in., com- plexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes ( believed) blue ( large), upper and some lower front teeth miss- ing; dress, navy blue dress, large black hat, or stolen clothes. A housemaid. Absconded 15th inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. 21.— Colchester ( Borough\— For stealing £ 6 10s., 28th ult.— DAVID BANNISTER, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., good build, hair and moustache dark, of good address and smart appear- ance ; dress, blue Melton overcoat, dark blue ribbed fancy vest, dark trousers, black bowler hat. Had with him two brown leather sample bags. Is be- lieved identical with David Bannister, Case No. 23, 26th November, 1909. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable. Colchester. CLOUCES TERSHIRE. 22.— Cheltenham ( County).— For stealing from a bedroom, 11th inst., a gold keyless repeater watch, No. 21023; 1 double gold watch chain, curb pattern, silver sovereign case and latch key attached; 1 gold signet ring, with crest of Griffin's head, " Domitius Providebit" around; 1 small string bag purse, with " Jerusalem " and " Jericho" worked thereon, containing a few coppers— WILLIAM HENRY BAKEWELL, Office No. 1189- 08, age 21, height 5 ft. 4 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, bust of a woman at back each hand, snake, tree, woman in tights and head of Buffalo Bill right; sailor, " Elizabeth Bakewell," flower and bracelet left forearm. A fitter; native of Hanley. Has been convicted at Salford Hundred Sessions, Hanley, Walsall and Warwick. Is a begging letter im postor. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 23 — Staple Hill ( County). - For stealing leather boot uppers ( recovered)— GEORGE AMOS, alias PARGY, age 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion pale, freckled, hair red, eyes light; dress, green lounge suit, may be wearing a fancy vest and carrying a brown mackintosh coat, grey cap, brown boots. Frequents race meetings. A shoemaker; native of Hanhan, near Bristol. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. T H E P O L I C E GAZETTE. 24 — Bristol ( City).— For embezzling £ 8, 3rd inst.— WILLIAM JOHN ELLIS, age 24 or 25, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., complexion fair, hair and moustache light ( may be clean shaved), large scar left side of jaw and forehead, cast in left eye; dress, grey suit and cap ; a decorator, native of Bir mingham; has been employed as a porter at a restaurant. A seaman; born in India.— WILLIAM EELE, age 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., com- plexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue. An outdoor porter; native of Fulham, London. Both absentees from the 19th Hussars, wearing plain clothes. Information to Supt. Hawkins, Aldershot. 26.— Bournemouth ( County).— On Bench warrant, for failing to surrender to his bail at Quarter Sessions, charged with indecently assault- ing a girl age 10| years— JAMES VIVIAN, age 70, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair, beard and eyes ( sore) grey, scar over left eye, ring tattooed third right finger, both legs have been broken, walks with 2 crutches with iron handles; dress, dark grey suit and overcoat, black and white check scarf, grey motor cap. Represented himself as a civil engineer; also a specialist of diseases. 27.— Bournemouth ( County).— For obtain- ing £ 12 by false pretences— CHARLES GROCEY, age 38 to 40, slight build, height 5 ft. 1\ in., com- plexion fair, hair dark brown, eyes grey; dress, dark overcoat, tweed suit, bowler hat. Warrant issued. 28 — Bournemouth ( County).— For obtain- ing money by false pretences— HENRY JOHN GLANVILLE HARPER, age 21, height 5 ft, 9 or 10 in., complexion pale, hair brown, eyes ( rather large) grey, stammers when agitated. HEREFORDSHIRE. 30. — Leominster I County). — For house- breaking and stealing, 1st June last, at Risbury, a grey reefer jacket; 1 dark fustian do.; 1 pair fine cord trousers; 1 tweed vest; 1 blue neckerchief, 1 pipe; 1 tape measure, 60 ft. long, ring broken off end, brass case— JAMES ATTWOOD, alias JACK JENKINS, age 36 to 38, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion swarthy, hair and moustache dark; dress, supposed stolen clothing, dark cap, nailed boots. KENT. 31.— Cranbrook ( County)— For obtaining a banker's cheque for £ 2, by false pretences, by representing he was collecting subscriptions to open a social club— TOM WAKEHAM ( supposed false), age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., com- plexion sallow, thin face, hair dark, moustache heavy, drooping; dress, dark green striped jacket and knickers, stockings, straw hat, black striped tie. Supposed previously convicted and wanted elsewhere. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Fowle, Cranbrook. 32.— Dover ( Borough).— HARRIS, wanted for stealing bicycle, Case No. 21, 22nd ult., is identical with REGINALD EBS WORTH, Office No. S/ 113961, age 32, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar left fore- head, 2 moles on each cheek. A motor mechanic; native of Forest Gate, Essex. Has been con- victed at Hastings, Southend- on- Sea, Reigate and Stratford of similar offences. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. 33. — Ramsgate ( Borough) — For stealing, 13th inst., a silk umbrella, smoke colour horn handle, gold mounted— A WOMAN, age about 30, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., rather stout build, full face, com- plexion rosy, hair light; wearing long green frieze TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 1910. coat with waist band, large hat. She engaged a room at an hotel 12th inst., and absconded the next day. Accompanied by her husband, rather tall, thin white face, hair and moustache light. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. 34. — Skerton ( County). — For stealing at Morecambe, 10th inst., a bicycle ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 23, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., may have small light moustache; dress, dark jacket suit, soft collar and cap, gold colour watch chain, had in his possession a postcard, " M. Parker, No, 5, Lune Street," thereon. Stated he came from Scotland. Information to Supt. Barnett, Skerton. NOR THA MPTONSHIRE. So— Kettering ( County).— For stealing a pair of motor gloves; 2 pairs of goggles; 1 grey woollen scarf; 1 new Kodak ^- plate folding camera in brown canvas case, " E. O. Mizen " in- side case— WILLIAM HAMPTON, age 34, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes blue, slovenly gait; dress, black jacket and vest, dark green cord trousers, dark cap, all old and dirty. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hooper, Kettering. NOR THUMBERLA ND. 36— Newcastle - on - Tyne ( City).— For manslaughter— SYDNEY TAYLOR, age 31, height 6 ft., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes blue, sunken cheeks, an ex- soldier. Native of London. May seek employment as a window cleaner. Associates with prostitutes. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- on- Tyne. NO TTINCHA MS HIRE. 37.- Mansfield ( County).— For embezzling the funds of the Notts Miners' IJnion at Huthwaite — PETER RILEY, age 53, height 5 ft. 8 in., com- plexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) and eyes brown, abscess scar on jaw ; dress, blue serge suit. A collier. Will probably endeavour to obtain employment in colliery districts. Absconded 3rd inst. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Rodgers, Mansfield. OXFORDSHIRE. US.— Bicester ( County).— For stealing 9th inst., £ 7 17s. 6d.— MARY ANN GRIMSLEY, alias LOW and PARKER, age 70, height about 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, leans forward when walking. Has been employed as a housekeeper. Native of Bicester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Allmond, Bicester. 39. — Oxford ( City). — For larceny ( bailee)— GERALD TREGEAR^ age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., good build, complexion ruddy, thick lips, prominent cheek bones, hair ( turning grey at sides) dark brown, heavy moustache light, eyes blue, heart, arrow and anchor left forearm, birthmark left side of stomach; wears American pince- nez with gold bridge; of smart appearance; dress, dark grey suit and overcoat, black bowler hat, carried a stick and kid gloves. Usually stays at good class hotels and boarding houses. Calls upon house and estate agents and represents that he wanted to purchase an hotel in the district. Poses as a French Canadian. In this case he communicated with a lady desirous of managing an hotel, engaged her, and on the pretence of marriage, obtained possession of her jewellery and absconded. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Oxford. 40 — Banbury ( Borough,).— For stealing, 12th inst., a Singer bicycle, No. 155432, black enam- elled ( partly worn off), 26- in. frame, 28- in. wheels, silver painted rims, raised handle bars, front tyre brake, back pedalling band brake, rubber pedals, head tube dented, black celluloid pump— JOHN BIRD, age 40 to 45, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, sunburnt, moustache rather sandy; wearing dark clothes, grey cap, boots with plain fronts. Warrant issued. 41. — Banbury ( Borough). — For sending a threatening letter— HENRY SOLOMON JOSEPH COLE, age 30, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes ( crossed) hazel. METROPOLITAN POLICE DISTRICT. 43.— R Divisionm— For escaping from custody at Greenwich Police Court, lltli inst., while on remand, charged with uttering forged cheques— Expiree ALBERT DOUGALL, alias WILLIAM ALBERT MEYER, WILLIAM JOHNSON, moustache light auburn, eyes light blue, scar left temple and left wrist, very active; dress, dark grey suit with broad stripe, green tie, small gold pin, grey cap, brown boots.
