POLICE 9 GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY. NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, JUNE 17, 1910. VOL. XXVII., No. 2762. 1. All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THB EDITOB OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SOOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 8. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 8. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5 Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. . TIONS, 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form, and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Warrants issued. 3.— X Division.— For stealing, llth inst., a gold curb bracelet, padlock attached; 1 do. basket pattern ; 1 gold safety pin, 2 horseshoes thereon; 1 cheque book, London and South Western Bank, Ealing Branch— PATRICK EUGENE O'SULLIVAN, alias PERCY BROOKES, age 20, height 5 ft. 9 in., complexion fair, long features, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue; dress, light grey jacket suit, black bowler hat, kid button boots. A native of Carrick- on- Shannon, Leitrim. Stated he was a civil service clerk, transferred from G. P. O. Dublin to Savings Bank Department, Blythe Road, West Kensington. ANDERSON, age about 30, height 5 ft. 8in., broad square shoulders, complexion fair, hair brown, moustache light, waxed at ends, walks erect and quickly; dress, dark check jacket suit, black bowler hat, flat brim. A clerk, native of London. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 5.— For fraudulent conversion of trust money— FRANCIS ERNEST SWANN, age 45, height 5 ft. 10 or 11 in., complexion sallow, long narrow face, hair ( tinged with grey) and moustache light brown, talks rather quickly. BERKSHIRE. 6.— Wokingham ( County). — For stealing from Sandhurst Church, 26th ult., 5 volumes of organ music, viz., 2 bound green ; 1 bound blue cloth with gold initials " W. P. A."; 2 marked " Handel's Album" containing music by Smart, Guilmant and Widor— A MAN, age 20 to 23, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark, believed clean shaved. Was riding a bicycle. Apprehended, see Case No. 100. Warrant issued. 7.— Wokingham ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 by false pretences, at Wargrave, 13th ult.— ROBINS, age 30 to 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., com- plexion pale, hair and moustache dark; dress, dark knicker suit, stockings and cap. Was riding a bicycle. Represented he was a goods clerk, called upon gentlemen, stated that he was forming a social club for railway porters, and obtained subscriptions. Warrant issued. CA RNA R VONS HIRE. 8.— Bangor ( County).— For leaving their wives chargeable to the Bangor and Beaumaris Union— ROBERT JONES, age 46, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, full face, hair dark bFOwn, moustache light, eyes blue, scar bridge of nose, part of one finger missing. A stonemason, native of Menai Bridge. WILLIAM OWEN, ^ ge 27, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair sandy, eyes blue, sear on nose and right forearm, addicted to drink. A native of Bethesda. Warrants issued. 9 — Bangor ( County).— For non- payment of £ 1 17s. 6d. maintenance arrears— OWEN OWENS, age about 45, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh! hair dark brown, moustache light brown, eves blue,' addicted to drink. DORSETSHIRE. 10.— Dorchester ( County).— For obtaining credit while an undischarged bankrupt.— EDWIN ALBERT SOUTHCOTT, alios WILLIAM GOUGH, age 44, height 5 ft. 10J in., slightly round shoulders, complexion sallow, hair ( turning grey) and moustache brown, eyes blue, boil scar back of neck, dot back left forearm, wears glasses; dress, dark suit, black bowler hat. An antique dealer, native of Bristol. May be found at auction sales, usually stays at middle- class commercial or temperance hotels. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Dennett, Dorchester. 11. — Poole ( County). — For stealing 2 lady's silver watches ( 1 geneva, open face, plain case, 1 do. with coloured work on dial); 2 pins ( 1 gold ruby setting, 1 silver with setting of rough silver ore); 1 lady's long gold cased neck chain.— JOHN CAM- ERON, age about 25, height 6 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark; dress, dark jacket and vest, dark cord trousers, Had with him a bicycle, black enamelled, upturned handle- bars, black grips, lamp, nearly new tyres. DURHAM. 14.— South Shields ( Borough).— For carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of 16 years.— EUSTACE HENRY ROSE, age about 50, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., stout build, hair ( very bald), moustache and pointed beard grey, wears gold rimmed glasses, of smart appearance. An optician or oculist. Has in his possession cards with " Eustace Rose, Oculist Optician, 7 6, Ducie Grove, Manchester," thereon. Visits post offices for letters, calls upon officials of public offices soliciting orders for eye- glasses. Usually has with him a model boat fitted with engine which he sails on lakes and ornamental waters. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. 15.— South Shields ( Borough).— For larceny ( trick)— AUBREY HOWARD SCOTT CHARLTON, alias HOWARD, age 26, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair and eyes brown, several artificial teeth in upper jaw, anchor right forearm, dot left middle finger, 2 dots left forearm, scar centre of forehead, right of upper lip and cheek. A traveller or photo- grapher. Native of Northumberland. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, South Shields. HEREFORDSHIRE. 20.— Ledbury ( County).— For obtaining 10s. by false pretences, 3rd inst., at Colwall— RICHARD KNIGHT, age 26 to 28, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes grey, " Dick " on right forearm, crown and woman believed on left forearm ; dress, blue coat, dark cord vest and trousers, lace boots. A native of Spetchley, near Worcester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Thomas, Ledbury. KENT. 21.— Maidstone ( Borough).— For officebreak- ing and stealing £ 2 5s.— ROBERT THORLEY, age about 40, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., stout build, complexion and hair ( curly) dark, clean shaved, of smart appearance; dress, blue serge reefer suit, trousers very wide, black bow tie, blue peak cap. A motor garage engineer, native of Hull. Has worked at Peterborough and Woolwich. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Maidstone. ESSEX. 16.- - Eppinu ( County).— For stealing £ 40.— WILLIAM COOTE, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 in., slight build, complexion sallow, hair and moustache very dark, finger nails much bitten, an inveterate cigarette smoker; dress, cycling suit. A native of Wethers- field. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Terry, Epping, or to Inspector Giggins, Harlow. FLINTSHIRE. 17.-— Mold ( County).— For shopbreaking, 25th or 26th ult., at Connahs Quay, and stealing 2 gold plated alberts; 2 lady's fancy silver do. ; 1 do. silver long guard ; 1 silver albert; 1 gold plated do. ; 1 lady's do. long guard; 1 do. silver albert; 1 oxidised keyless watch, No. 33569; 6 silver wedding rings ; 7 silver buckle rings ; 6 do. bangle rings— A MAN, age 28 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion ruddy, very bad teeth; dress, black coat and vest, brown cord trousers, felt hat, heavy boots. Information to Supt. Davies, Mold. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 18.— Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 1st inst., a bicycle ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 33, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache ( cut straight across) dark brown; dress, brown mixture suit, dark cap, lace boots. He took lodgings, represented that he was an officer from a Reformatory School at Newport, Mon., produced a pair of handcuffs, stated he came to Bristol to arrest two lads, he also attempted to obtain bicycles from dealers by stating he was a detective from London. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. 22 LANCASHIRE. Liverpool ( City).— For attempted murder, 11th inst.— A MAN, age about 30, height about 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, slight moustache dark ; dress, dark suit. He visited a jeweller's shop, asked the manager to show him an article in a show case behind the door, and while the manager was opening the case he struck him a violent blow on the head with a large » hisel which was wrapped in two pieces of shirting and a L. & N. W. Railway toilet towel, marked " Wolverton No. C. 10146." Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 23 — Manchester ( City).— For failing to report— Licence- holder JOHN DOGGETT, Office No. 3163- 99, age 42, height 5 ft. in., complexion sallow, hair dark brown, eyes brown, scar 2nd right finger and back left hand. A painter, native of Kingswinford. Sentenced at Birmingham Sessions, 3rd February, 1908, to 3 years penal servitude and 2 years supervision for larceny. Licensed 12th May, 1910. i 78. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 24.— Saiford ( Borough).— For failing to report, — Licence- holder SEIGMUND KINDLER, Office No. 709- 10, a Jew, age 51, height 5 ft. \ in., com- plexion fresh, hair light brown ( turning grey), eyes brown, scar front right ear, mole over left eyebrow. An Austrian jeweller. Sentenced at Manchester Assizes, 9th July, 1906, to 5 years penal servitude for larceny. Licensed 11th April, 1910. g 334. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Saiford. A groom, native of Great Dalby.— WILLIAM CROSS- LEY SMITH, age 24, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey, flower with Lucy thereon, anchor, Arthur, Emily right forearm, bust of female, Florrie, Sam, Joe, Patty, Ena, horseshoe with head and bit left forearm. HAMPSHIRE. 19.— Portsmouth ( Borough).— For stealing ( bailee) a bicycle ( recovered)— WILLI AM ROBERTS, age 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion fair, hair light, eyes blue; dress, grey jacket and vest, brown cord trousers, white muffler, cap. Accompanied by his wife, age about 30, height 5 ft. 1 or 2 in., slight build, complexion sallow, blind one eye, advanced in pregnancy, usually wears dark clothing. Information to the Chief Constable, Portsmouth. NORFOLK. 26.— Holt ( County).— For stealing £ 3, MARY ANN BLOGG, alias MARTHA MILLAR, age 28 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion and hair dark, eyes brown ; dress, dark three- quarter length jacket, grey skirt, black sailor hat, heavy lace boots, nailed, plates on heels. Supposed a native of London. Had in her possession a marriage certificate in names of Samuel and Martha Millar. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Flint, Holt. SHROPSHIRE. 27.— Pontesbury ( County).— For stealing ( bailee), at Westbury, 18th ult.,' a " New Rapid" bicycle, 26- in. frame, roughly re- enamelled black, 28 - in. wheels, wired tyres ( front new), 3 stars on side, Dunlop back, rubber pedals, saddle with 3 coil springs, front twisted, upturned handle- bars, hole down centre, roller lever brakes— JOHN CHARLES EDWARD BINNERSLEY, age 23, height 5 ft. 3 in., complexion dark, hair dark brown, clean shaved, eyes brown, pigeon chest, scar over right eyebrow, between eyebrows, chin, right forearm, 3rd right finger, left forefinger and right side of nose ( which is thick at end and turned to right), mole back of neck; dress, grey jacket and vest, old brown cord breeches and loggings, peak cap, old light boots. A labourer or collier, native of Shrewsbury. Previously con- victed of larceny at Carmarthen, Hereford, and Don- caster. May seek employment at farms or^ collieries. Warrant issued. SOMERSETSHIRE. 28— Bath ( City).— For stealing pony, cart and harness described in Case No. 69, 20th ult.— CHARLES WALTER INGRAM, alias SMITH and CHARLES INGRAM, Office No. 1001- 05, age 27, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes hazel, scar on nose, woman's head right, flag, anchor and ship left forearm, rose, butterfly, bracelet left wrist and hand. A seaman, native of London. Has been convicted of similar offences in London and Cardiff. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Bath. STAFFORDSHIRE. 2V.— Longton ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences between 28th ult. and 1st inst., at Stoke- on- Trent— GEORGE LAWRENCE BOOTH, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 2 or 3 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and slight moustache black, eyes blue, long body, short arms and legs; dress, old black lounge suit, blue overalls, black tie, light grey cap, heavy nailed boots. A boiler maker, native of Ilkeston, Derbyshire. Warrant issued. 30.— Longton ( County).— For stealing, 5th inst., 4 razors ( 2 Sprock, 1 Yoogd, 1 Ern); 3 pairs " Brown and Sharp's " hair clippers, maker's name on all, 1 pair marked " 000," 1 pair " No. 1," 1 pair " No. 2 "; 2 pairs scissors, maker " Lowe " on one— A MAN, age about 50, height 5 ft. 6 in. slight build, thin features, hair grey, light scraggy mous- tache, rather splay feet; dress, dark brown jacket, brown vest, blue serge trousers, dark brown cap, lace boots. 31.— Longton ( County).— For stealing, 2nd inst., a blanket and wearing apparel ( recovered)— A GIRL, age 16, height 4 ft. 10 in., complexion very dark, hair black; dress, green Scotch plaid, Eton coat and skirt, white blouse, green soft cloth hat. A native of Longton. Information to Supt. Grove, Longton. 32. — Stoke- on- Trent ( Borough). — For stealing ( servant) at Hanley, 7th inst., £ 7, and a money order for the payment of £ 3 lis. 3d., No. U 686- 18/ 16, payable to Rosenthal and Silverman— LOUIS SOLOMON, age about 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., complexion fresh, hair ( rather curly) dark, Birmingham accent, walks rather clumsily; dress, dark grey jacket, sleeves slightly long, blue serge trousers and vest, black tie with white and mauve stripes, cameo pin, cap, lace boots. Supposed a native of Leeds. Is fond of boxing, and may frequent boxing shows. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief of Police, Hanley. SUFFOLK ( West). 33.— Bury St. Edmunds ( County).— For embezzlement— GEORGE KIRBY, age 24, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in., complexion fresh, hair ( inclined to curly) light brown, eyes blue; dress, black jacket and trousers, black and white fancy vest, black tie, green mixture cap, lace boots. A butcher's assistant, native of Bury St. Edmunds. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Bury St. Edmunds. SURREY. 34. — Hersham ( County)- — For obtaining 2s. 6cl. by false pretences at Walton- on- Thames, 4th inst.— CLARKE, age about 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion dark swarthy, clean shaved; dress, blue serge suit and peak cap. He called upon residents, stated he was collecting money for an injured fireman and produced a book purporting to be signed by the Captain of the Fire Brigade. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Coleman, Hersham. 35 .— Reigate ( Borough).— For embezzlement — A. W. WHITE, age about 28, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in., complexion sallow, hair and moustache dark, front teeth decayed; wearing dark clothes. An inveterate smoker. A draper's traveller. Absconded 31st ult. Is believed to have absconded 28th ult. May be found at seaside resorts, accompanied by A MAN, age 23, height 5 ft. 4 in, complexion dark, clean shaved, eyes brown ; dress, dark grey suit with blue stripes, light and dark green crochet tie, black bowler hat, brown button boots. A hair- dresser. Information to the Head Constable, Liverpool. 37.— Manchester ( City).— For embezzling £ 44— THOMAS WILLIAM WEST, age 30, height 5 ft. 10 in, slight build, complexion pale, rather high cheek bones, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes deep set, pointed nose, walks erect, rather large feet, South Navy. For several months he has exhibited in public houses models of ships which he made. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Newcastle- under- Lyme. LEICES TERSHIRE 39.— Leicester ( County).— For stealing a ring ( recovered) and a gold bar brooch, stone missing from centre.— CHAliLES H. FOLEY, age 23, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in, good build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes blue, clean shaved ; dress, green suit, light cap. A native of London, served in the Dragoon Guards.
