All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YABD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8.?. per portrait, and engravings of stolen property at a cost of 6.?. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. 6. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 7. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. • TIOHTS, 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form , and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted!) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Warrant issued. 3.— F Division.— For obtaining money by false pretences— G. R. SESHADRI, alias R. A. BANAJEA, M. A., C. MITTER, B. A., and CHANDRA VAISA, B. A., age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 ins., complexion dark, slightly pock- marked, hair black, slight moustache, eyes dark, scar bridge of nose ; wearing shabby frock coat, silk hat, or shabby lounge suit. A native of India. He calls upon Anglo Indians and represents himself as a descendant of an Indian judge, and obtains money. Warrant issued. 4.— K Division.—- For obtaining £ 6 by a seaman's bogus advance note — WILLIAM McDAVID, a man of colour, age 30, height 5 ft. 5 in., hair black; dress, dark jacket suit, brown soft felt hat. A ship's cook. May endeavour to obtain a ship at a provincial port. Warrant issued. 5 — M Division. - For stealing ( by trick), a rifle ( recovered)— HARRY WILKINS, age 33, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, eyes grey, of military appearance; dress, light plaid gamekeeper's jacket and vest, brown leather collar, brown cord breeches, wide rib, light drab gaiters, dark golf cap band around edge, lace boots. A native of Rotherhithe. Frequents places where pigeon shooting is held. Is a good shot. Warrant issued. Information to be forwarded to the Metropolitan Police Office, New Scotland Yard, S. W. A YRSHIRE. S— Stevenston ( County). — For obtaining about £ 40 by fraud between 27th May last and 27th ult.— ANDREW JAMES WALLACE, alias J. B. HOWELL, age 21, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., com- plexion sunburnt, hair light, clean shaved, slightly bow- legged, small anchor tattooed web of thumb, one hand ; dress, dark brown tweed jacket suit ( green stripe), dark cap, heliotrope tie, black lace shoes. In possession of a brown tin box 2 ft. 6 in. by 1 ft. 6 in. by 1 ft. 6 in. He left here by G. and S. W. and Midland Railway excursion train, due at London ( St. Pancras) about 6.30 p. m., 27th ult. Wallace came from Australia, having left Sydney 16th March, 1908. Accompanied by A WOMAN, age 22, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair dark brown ; dress, dark tweed costume ( black stripe), white straw hat, trimmed white silk ribbon, yellow flower in front, lace shoes. CA RDIGA NSHIRE. 7.— Llandyssul ( County).—- For housebreak- ing and stealing a pair of boots, 26th ult.— ERNEST GRAFTON, age 16, height 5 ft. 4 in., complexion dark, prominent features, hair dark brown, top of head covered with scab; dress, light dove- colour suit, jacket and vest slightly darker. An Industrial School lad. He booked from here to Swindon, and re- bookecl from there to London on above date. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Llandyssul. CA RNA R VONSHIRE. 8.— Bangor ( County).— For obtaining £ 5 by a worthless cheque 23rd ult.— RALPH KERR ( supposed false), age 24 to 28, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in., rather sturdy build, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved; dress, navy blue suit. Appearance of a clerk. Accompanied by A MAN, age about 20, height 5 ft. 6 in., hair black, clean shaved; dress, navy blue suit. Stated they were medical students at the Birmingham University. May be found at I seaside places. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Guest, Bangor. DERBYSHIRE. 9.— Chesterfield '( Borough).— For obtaining board and lodgings by false pretences between 5th and 10th April, 1909— JOSEPH CASWELL, alias SAMUEL PRITCHARD, age 44, height 6 ft. 1 in., very stout build, weight about 18 stone, complexion fresh, hair ( turning grey) brown, eyes ( right defective) light blue. A pit sinker, native of Ilkeston. Has been convicted of similar offences at Longton and ; Stockport. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Chesterfield. DURHAM. \ G- Stockton- on- Tees ( County). — For stealing, 18th ult., a gold buckle ring, embossed, buckle has been repaired, and £ 5 5s. from the s. s. Cairntorr, lying in the Tees at Port Clarence— GEORGE VAN BREEN, alias VAN BRIAN and VAN BRIEN, Office No. 2784- 01, age 34, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair light brown, eyes blue, right forefinger has been crushed ; dress, blue suit, white flannel collar. A ship's cook, native of Antwerp. A notorious ship's thief. Has been con- victed at Bristol, Cardiff, Penarth, Barry Dock, and Newport, and has been twice deported to Ostend under the Aliens Act. Information to Supt. Hildreth, Stockton- on- Tees. ESSEX. 11.— Chelmsford ( County). — For stealing between 27th and 30th ult., 2 bags of woollen rags ( recovered)— HENRY GIBSON, age 30, height 5 ft. 10J; in., complexion fresh, square face, hair brown, eyes blue; dress, dark jacket, vest, trousers ( bell bottoms) and cap. A labourer, native of Chelmsford. Accompanied by A WOMAN, age 31, height 5 ft. 2 in., complexion fresh, hair brown, eyes grey, a pedlar. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 12.— Grays ( County).— For stealing a light blue serge suit; 1 pair button boots, " Walk Over" stamped inside; and 4s., at Wennington, 24th ult.— — NELSON, age 27 to 30, height 5 ft. 3 in., com- plexion fair, thin face, left eye missing, slight moustache ; wearing the stolen suit. Jordan, Grays. 13.— Romford ( County).— For stealing, 28th July, a cap ( recovered), also for leaving his wife and children chargeable to the Romford Union,— GEORGE WILCOX, age 36, height 5 ft. 9 or 10 in., complexion fresh, hair and moustache light, eyes blue, cut scar near left eye, of smart appearance; dress, blue serge jacket and trousers, dark plaid vest, blue peak cap, brown lace boots. Jones, Romford. 14.— Colchester ( County).— Vor stealing a bicycle at Harwich 14th ult. ( recovered)— GEORGE WILLIAM FISHER, alias COOPER, Office No. 2011- 02, Case No. 10, 27th ult., age 27, height 5 ft. 5f in., complexion sallow, hair dark, eyes dark brown, scar centre forehead, dot left wrist; dress, dark diagonal blue suit, dark cap. A blacksmith, native of Suffolk. Has been convicted at Winchester. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Akers, Colchester. 15.— Colchester ( Borough).— For obtaining 3 pairs lady's lace boots by false pretences 26th ult. — A WOMAN, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft., com- plexion dark, swarthy, hair believed dark brown, peculiar mouth, bad teeth, may be wearing glasses; dress, dark dress, black bodice ( buttons down front), white or black sailor hat ( trimmed band), white collar and cuffs. She called at a shop, produced a letter purporting to be from a nurse or sister at the hospital, requesting goods be sent by bearer on approval. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Colchester. GLA MORGA NSHIRE. 16.— Bridgend ( County). — For obtaining £ 1 7s. by false pretences at Cwmavon 27th January last— J. APPREHENSIONS SOUGHT ( continued).— complexion fresh, large nose, hair light, slight mous- tache ( cut close, turning grey), speaks quickly; dress, dark suit, frock coat, silk hat. He described himself as a herbal cigarette maker, Worcester, and obtained the above amount for a quantity of herbal cigarettes, gave a receipt on a billhead " J. Butt, herbal cigarette maker, Worcester," thereon, stated that he would appoint the person defrauded sole agent for Cwmavon on 13th ult., he called on another person, obtained £ 2 5s. for cigarettes, and gave a receipt " Bull and Co, 7, Cabul Road, Battersea, London," thereon ; he was then wearing a light suit and straw hat. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Menhinick, Bridgend. n — Cardiff ( City).— For stealing watches— ARTHUR J. KNIGHT, age 32, height 5 ft. 10£ in, complexion fair, long face, hair light brown, clean shaved, eyes blue, 2 small warts left side of nose, roman nose; dress, dark brown suit, straw hat with brown band, lace boots, carried a light cane with 1 crooked handle. A painter, native of London. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Cardiff. GLOUCESTERSHIRE. 18.— Gloucester ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 and 3 gross of picture postcards by false pretences— W. LUCAS, age 34, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in, slight build, complexion fresh, thin features, hair and moustache dark, waxed at ends, prominent nose; dress, navy blue suit, black bowler hat, brown boots with brown cloth tops, may be wearing new boots. He represents himself as the nephew of the head of a London firm, obtains orders for postcards and receives payment for same, in some instances obtains post- cards from shopkeepers on the pretence of having them exchanged. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Gloucester. HAMPSHIRE. 19.— Aldershot ( County)— For obtaining, by false pretences, at Odiham, 15th July last, a colt ( recovered)— F. A. AYLING, age about 30, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in, complexion and hair dark, clean shaved; dress, dark jacket and trousers, fancy red vest, bowler or slouch hat. A horse dealer, believed a native of Grayshott, Hants. Was accompanied by his wife and child. Warrant issued. I Information to Supt. HEREFORDSHIRE. 21.—, Hereford ( City).— For stealing £ 3 10s.; a postal order for 4s. ; 1 grey lambswool undervest; 1 blue striped cotton shirt, from his lodgings, 24th ult.— ARTHUR WARNER, age 27, height about 5 ft. 6 in, complexion fresh, clean shaved ; dress, light brown suit, grey cap, brown boots. He took lodgings, stating he was a clerk on the G. W. Railway, and had. been transferred from Wrexham to Hereford. See Case No. 78, 14th May, Case No. 31, 4th June, and Case No. 40, 23rd July, 1909. HER TFORDSHIRE. 22.— Hertford ( County).— For obtaining Is. 6d. by false pretences, 28th ult.— A MAN, age 25, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in. good build, complexion fair, full face, hair and moustache light brown; dress, dark jacket suit, dark cap with bright peak. He called at houses and represented he was authorised to collect money on behalf of the widow and children of a guard who had been killed on the railway. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Foster, Hertford. 23.— Watford ( County).— For obtaining food and lodgings by false pretences at Rickmansworth— TWO MEN, 1st age about 19, very tall, complexion dark, clean shaved ; dress, blue serge suit, white fancy vest, straw hat ( pale green band), white boots ; 2nd, age 26 to 30, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in, complexion fresh, clean shaved, bad front teeth ; dress, tweed suit with green stripes, straw hat with grey band, white boots. They represented themselves as travellers for a firm of cutlers, and both gave the name of Jackson, Left behind a black bag containing empty cardboard boxes. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. KENT. 24.— Sevenoaks ( County).— For burglary at Kemsing, 27th ult, and stealing 2 silver sweet dishes; 2 do. serviette rings (" Emily" on one); 1 do. flask, bayonet joint top cap below, " J. M. T." on flask; 1 crocodile cigar case, " J. N. Tullock" printed inside, four corners sheathed in gold ; 1 gilt carriage clock, gilt face; 1 do, white face, blue numerals; 1 carriage watch, in long green case, maker Yicary; 1 gold watch, independent seconds; maker George Douglas, Dumbarton; 1 gold pencil case, slides in a sheath; 1 cut crystal smelling bottle, gold top, with a bishop's mitre as crest; 1 turquoise and pearl locket, small diamond chips therein; 1 hair comb, coral and gold top; 1 gold flat fancy neck chain, old- fashioned; 1 10- franc gold piece; 15 to 20 francs; 1 gold point Waterman's Ideal fountain pen; 1 large magnifying glass, mounted in silver, with silver handle, 4 or 5 in. diameter; 4 silver sweet dishes, perforated; 12 2£ d. postage stamps; about 10s. worth of Id. and | d. do.; about 600 cigars, mostly C. E. Becky, band with two horses with cigar between, No. 25, others 129 Castaneda Habana; 6 pairs silk and woollen pants and under- vests, nearly all new, tab sewn on same " Edward Jackson, 100, Buchanan Street, Glasgow," also " J. N. Tullock"; 18 pairs new socks, blue, blue striped, white and yellow.— TWO MEN, first, age 30 to 34, height 5 ft. 6 to 8 in, slight build, moustache brown; dress, grey suit, green cap, carried a black bag : second, age 26, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in, very slight moustache; dress, light suit, green cap, carried a brown bag. Taylor, Sevenoaks. 25 - West Mailing ( County).— For house- breaking at Ightham, between 20th and 23rd ult, and stealing a dull gold curb brooch ; 1 cameo brooch, mounted on a safety pin; 1 gold brooch " 1897 " thereon ; 1 lady's silver watch, silver chain ( 4 strands), and 1887 jubilee 3d. piece attached; 1 blue serge suit; 1 striped vest; 2 pairs pants ; i under- vest ; 3 pairs socks, hand knitted; 1 pair boots, Derby pattern, size 7; 1 old grey cap— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in, hair dark, beard about a week's growth; supposed wearing the stolen suit, light green motor cap, light wrapper. Pawn tickets relating to a gold ring pledged at Farnham in name of Fred Bradley, and a ring pledged at Guild- ford in name of George Fleming were found in pockets of old clothing left behind by him. Ford, West Mailing. 26.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For embezzling £ 6 17s. 2d. 19th July— THOMAS HENRY CROLE, age 36, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in, complexion, hair and moustache dark, thin face, springy gait; dress, 1 dark brown suit, vest double- breasted, dark tie, grey cap, lace boots. A good draught player and amateur boxer. Was employed as foreman at a mineral water factory. Warrant issued. 27.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For obtaining 7s. by false pretences, 25th ult.— CHARLES SMITH, age 35 to 40, height about 5 ft. 5 in, stout build, complexion sallow, round face, square jaws, short stubby hair, clean shaved, tattoo marks back of one hand, fingers of both hands contracted ; dress, greyish suit, long drab mackintosh coat, straw hat. He calls upon tradesmen, represents that he is a storekeeper or caterer in the Navy attached to a flotilla of submarines supposed coming to the district, orders goods, afterwards calls again and states the boats are delayed, that he is short of money, and obtains an advance from the tradesmen, also obtained food at the Sailor's Rest, and beds for the men who would be granted leave. Warrant issued. 28.— Ramsgate ( Borough).— For stealing a silver watch, open face, rather thin, and a white metal chain, 31st ult.— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height about 5 ft. 6 in, hair and moustache brown, red face; dress, long fawn- coloured overcoat, white cord trousers, black cap, white canvas shoes. A gipsy, travels the country, accompanied by his wife and one or two children, in a cart, " Henry Cannon, Plum- stead, Kent," thereon, or a van with " George Catt, Eastbourne," thereon. They sleep in a tent covered with old carpets. Information to the Chief Constable, Ramsgate. LANCASHIRE. 29.— Skerton ( County).— For stealing, at More- cambe, a horse ( recovered)— A MAN, age about 20, height 5 ft. 5 or 6 in, complexion fresh, hair brown, clean shaved, eyes blue; dress, brown coat, navy blue , vest, flaps over pockets, drab colour breeches, brown ' lace leggings, lace boots, spotted muffler, greenish cap. A native of Shipley, Yorks. Information to Supt. Barnett, Skerton, Lancaster. , 30 — Salford ( Borough).— For failing to report - Licence- holder JOHN RYAN, Office No. 1494- 09, age 38, height 5 ft. in, complexion fresh, hair brown ( bald in front), eyes grey, scar forehead, large lump right of neck, sailor and flag right, female and gate left forearm. A native of Thurles, Tipperary. Sentenced at Munster Assizes, 11th December, 1905, to 5 years penal servitude for assault and robbery Licensed 9th ult. D. 621. Information to the Chief Constable, Salford. 31— Warrington ( Borough).— For stealing ( by trick), 18th ult, a pair of patent leather boots, size 7, plain fronts, glace kid legs, " R. Roberts and Son, 19, Bridge Street," stamped inside; 21st inst. a pair of lace boots, box calf, welted, size 8, toecaps, block toes, leather lined, " Waited " inside— A MAN, age about 35, height 5 ft. 8 or 9 in, rather large eye brows, clean shaved, prominent eyes; dress, grey suit, red tie, hard felt hat, supposed the 1st described pair of boots. Appearance of a medical man. He called at a shop, selected the boots, then stated he had not sufficient money, gave an address in the neighbourhood and stated he would call shortly and pay for them. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Warrington. LINCOLNSHIRE. 32.— Lincoln ( City).— For housebreaking and stealing a gold brooch, heart shape, enamelled light green; gold diamond daisy pendant, about in. diameter, large diamond in centre, diamonds on 6 blades, remainder plain; 1 gold diamond swallow brooch, ruby eyes, in. long; 1 gold Lincoln Imp brooch; 1 pearl necklet, 6 or 7 rows, graduated, but rather small, fastened with old paste amethyst clasp, pearls not a good colour; 1 gold bracelet, broad plain gold band, sapphire and 2 diamonds set flat in front; several gold and silver brooches—- HARRIS EDWARD TOLLERTON, age 21, height 5 ft. 8 in, complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown; dress, brown suit with blue stripes, rubber collar, violet tie, gold brooch pin, dark brown cap, brown boots blacked. A groom. HENRY WINTER, age 22, height 5 ft. 5| in, complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, mole right cheek, ring and dots left forearm; dress, light brown suit with grey stripes, grey rubber collar, green tie, lace boots, wearing the stolen Imp brooch in tie, and a gold ring set diamonds. A labourer. Had in his possession a revolver and cartridges. Both booked from Bedford to St. Pancras 27th ult. Information to the Chief Constable, Lincoln. NORFOLK. 33.— Norwich ( City).— For stealing ( till) 9s. 6d, 23rd ult.— TWO MEN: 1st, age about 20, height 5 ft. 3 in, good build, full round face, clean shaved, of Jewish appearance; dress, navy blue jacket suit, straw hat. 2nd, age about 23, height 5 ft. 8 in, full face ( very red), clean shaved; dress, navy blue jacket and trousers, green tie, straw hat. The latter induced a shopkeeper to leave his shop to point out an article which was in the window or showcase outside, while the former entered the shop and abstracted the cash from the till, the first- mentioned then excused himself by stating he would call again shortly and complete the purchase. Information to the Chief Constable, Norwich. PEMBROKESHIRE. 34- Haverfordwest Castle ( County). — For stealing at Milford Haven, 4th ult, a B. S. A. bicycle, No. 35227, 25- in. frame, green enamelled, gold lines, 28- in. wheels, plated upturned handle- bars, green celluloid grips, 2 brakes, B. S. A. roller, 3- speed hub, regulator right side, metal gear case with open centre, saddle B 302, Dunlop special tyres, rubber pedals, mud- guards— PHILIP DAVIES, age about 27, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in, rather stout build, complexion fresh, hair and eyes brown, clean shaved; dress, brown jacket and trousers, white fancy vest with dark stripes, brown cap. A native of Landore or Swansea. He was employed as a cycle fitter. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Haverfordwest Castle.
