All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should he addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE NEW- SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them hi, another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases where CL reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearh/ stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences will be inserted at a cost of 8s. per portrait, and engravings of stolen properly at a cost of ( 5s. per photograph or sketch, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the charge will be higher. A remittance of 6s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. livery announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. 1. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 6, 8. A nnouncements of all persons to be apprehended, or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must,' on their apprehension or recovery,' at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be wholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form , and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion { if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE retransmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the TJnited Kingdom. SPECIAL NOTICE. PRISONERS UNDER REMAND. THE aid of the Metropolitan Police is frequently sought by other Police Forces to make inquiries re- specting the antecedents of prisoners under remand, and such inquiries often result in identifying accused persons as being old offenders. But, in many cases, the time allowed for such inquiries is so brief that effect cannot be given to the request for information or that it can be complied with only in a perfunctory manner, and at great inconvenience. The Editor would therefore suggest, in the interest of the Provincial Police Forces, that four clear days, at least, should be allowed in cases of the kind, to complete the inquiries asked for. BERKSHIRE. 8.— Maidenhead ( County).— For obtaining 48 lbs. of strawberries by false pretences, 4th inst.— Licence- holder ARTHUR BELCHER, alias ARTHUR ERNEST BECKETT and ARTHUR WHITMAN, Office No. 1002- 05, age 29, height 5 ft. 7 . in., com- plexion fresh, hair black, eyes grey, scar corner right eye, back of neck, and two back of head, has a habit of biting his finger nails ; dress, blue serge suit and cap. A native of Newbury. He hires a horse and cart, obtains a quantity of fruit by false pre- tences, which he sells cheap, and then decamps. JOYCE, aged 34, height 6 ft. \ in., slight build, hair and slight moustache dark brown, eyes grey, scar under left jaw, twitches side of mouth, of smart appearance ; dress, brown jacket suit, brownish grey or fawn- coloured overcoat, bowler hat. He took lodgings 1st inst., stating he was a relief engineer at the local G. P. O., and left 2nd inst., saying he was going to the railway station for his tools, and was seen carrying the stolen bag. He took lodgings on above date, stating that he was a clerk on the L. and N. W. Railway, and had been transferred from Rugby to Lichfield. A cashier, native of Dulwich. Other defalcations have been discovered, and a number of stolen banknotes have been changed in Bristol, Reading, and other towns by a woman, supposed in company of Smith.
