GAZETTE PUBLISHED BY AUTHORITY NEW SERIES. FRIDAY, JULY 9, 1909. VOL. XXVI., No. 2664. 2. 1. Alt communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communications relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OF THE POLICE GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken, upon them by another force. 3. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. 4. In all cases where a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. 5. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s. to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant, is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, citu, or borough, a s the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. 6. 7. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear a number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to the number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announcement will be ivholly responsible for any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only ; they must be in the usual form , and accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13. The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion { if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. A native of Newbury. He hires a horse and cart, obtains a quantity of fruit by false pre- tences, which he sells cheap, and then decamps. Will also probably dispose of the horse and cart and commence similar operations in another district. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. A painter, native of Crayford, Kent. Has served in the 7th Dragoon Guards, and was discharged from the Army Reserve on conviction of similar offences at Rye and Ilaywards Heath, Sussex. KING), age about 45, height 6 ft., hair and slight moustache dark; dress, brown jacket suit, red tie, brown bowler hat, of smart appearance. Represented that he was agent for a tea and coffee merchant, London. Obtained an order and received the above amount as deposit. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. IQ.— Cockermouth ( County).— For failing to report— Licence- holder LAVONA NERO, alias DONALD DUEVEANA, JOHN LEMIN, and WILLIAM TAYLOR, Office No. 1025- 06, age 38, height 5 ft. 2f in., complexion fresh, hair black ( thin), eyes blue, left ear deformed, bust of man right, " DYU," bird, flowers, horseshoe, dagger and dots left forearm. A pavement artist, native of Leicestershire. Sentenced at Lincoln Assizes, 22nd November, 1894, to 15 years penal servitude for rape. Liberated on 2nd licence, 30th March, 1909. U 500. ESSEX. 17.— Braintree ( County).— For stealing from his lodgings, 20th ult., a lady's silver watch, keyless, gold knob for winding, chased back, plain ring in centre, L. E. scratched in ring on back, gold hands; 1 lady's silver chain, plain long links; 1 black silk watch chain, silver snap; 1 gold brooch, shape of a butterfly; 1 gold curb bracelet, padlock attached, with chain ; and 10s. Id.— A MAN, age 24 to 26, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair inclined to auburn, believed clean shaved, wrinkles on forehead; dress, brown suit and boots, dark grey cap. Terry, Braintree. 18.— Chelmsford ( Comity).— For embezzling £ 4 17s. 7d. between 15th and 22nd ult., at Ingate- stone— WILLIAM HORSNELL, age 30, height 5 ft. 8^ in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, moustache light brown, eyes grey, flat feet, walks badly, some toes missing from one foot; dress, dark suit, long dark overcoat, black bowler hat, lace boots. Fond of company aud music, plays the violin. A journeyman butcher, native of Hatfield Feverel. Is believed to have been previously convicted at Walthamstow. Absconded 22nd ult. Warrant issued. Information to the Deputy Chief Constable, Chelmsford. 19.— Grays ( County).— For housebreaking at Stifford, 16th ult., and stealing a dark overcoat, much worn, black bone buttons, 1 jacket and vest with green stripes, about ^ in. apart, makers " C. West wood aud Sons, High Street, Grays," on tab of jacket. 2 caps( 1 green, 1 light)- ALFRED WILLIAM ELLIS, age 32, height 5 ft. in., complexion fresh, hair dark brown, eyes grey ; woman, shamrock, thistle and rose right forearm, small mole right cheek, bullet wound right buttock and back of left knee, sunflower and pot left forearm, left instep has been broken. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Jordan, Grays. 20.— Saffron Walden ( County).— For obtaining by false pretences, 29th ult., 2 boy's suits; 2 boy's green jerseys, 1 do. cap, 2 pairs do. boots, sizes 3 and 4; 2 pairs men's light lace boots, sizes 6 and 7 ; 2 pairs of children's boots, size 8( 1 pair brown, 1 black)— CLAYDEN, alias RUSE, and SALMON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 3 or 4 ins., complexion pale, hair dark brown, supposed a long red scar on neck; dress, navy blue tailor- made costume, Norfolk jacket, large round black hat, trimmed with bunches of cherries. Hailstone, Saffron Walden. 21.— Southend" on- Sea ( County). — For stealing from his lodgings, between 30th ult. and 2nd inst., a pair of braces, £ 16, and 2 Jubilee shillings— A MAN, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 1 in., slight build, complexion fresh, hair and eyes dark, broad forehead, thick lower lip, protudes, lame right leg; dress, dark reefer suit, black neckerchief with red stripes, dark cap, lace boots, carried a cherry wood stick. Stated he was a barman. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Pryke, Southend- on- Sea. GL OUCES TERSHIRE. 22.— Cheltenham ( County).— For Stealing 8th ult., a table- cloth ( recovered) — JOHN BEACCHAMP, age 30 to 35, height 5 ft. 7± iu. stout build, hair ( cut close) light, clean shaved of good address, very talkative, slightly bow- legged- dress dark grey jacket and vest, dark brown trousers' with squares, cap or bowler hat, patent leather shoes' A dock labourer, but was employed here, as canvasser for a laundry. Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Hopkins, Cheltenham. 23 .— Staple Hill ( County).— For escaping from Brentry Inebriate Reformatory, 27th ult — MICHAEL MURPHY, age 42, height 5 ft. 6 in., complexion pale, hair dark brown, eyes blue, scar left knee; dress, light coat and cap, cord trousers heavy nailed boots. A native of Coventry. Sentenced to 3 years at the Reformatory at Coventry on 24th May, 1909. ' Warrant issued. Information to Supt. Cooke, Staple Hill. 24 — Bristol ( City).— For stealing, 29th ult., a blue suit with narrow white stripes, fall front trousers lined, " Bush and Mansfield, Bath," on tab of coat • 1 large silk muffler, green ground with yellow flowers • 1 white silk handkerchief marked " R. B." in ink; and 9s. 6d. JOHNSON, age about 40, height 5 ft. 7 in., rather slight build, long face, freckled, hair and moustache grey, small hole left side of jaw, with small fleshy lump protruding, Midland accent; dress, brown coat, darns at back, dark brown cord trousers, green cap, black and white check handkerchief, brown boots, blacked. He represented that his brother was a foreman in the employ of the National Telephone Company, obtained the clothes and money on the pretence that his brother could find him employment. Warrant issued. Not to be arrested out of the United Kingdom. Information to the Chief Constable, Bristol. He took lodgings 2nd inst, stating he was a relief engineer at the local G. P.
