All communications for insertion in the POLICE GAZETTE, and all communi- cations relating to them, should be addressed to THE EDITOR OP THE POLICE ^ GAZETTE, NEW SCOTLAND YARD, LONDON, S. W. 2. 6. 7. Particulars concerning persons whose apprehension is sought will be inserted in one issue of the POLICE GAZETTE, if they are sufficient to enable action to be taken upon them by another force. Particulars as to stolen property will be likewise inserted in one issue, if sufficient to enable the article in question to be thereby identified. In all cases u- here a reward is offered, the name and address of some person responsible for the payment must be given, and the exact conditions must be clearly stated. Portraits of persons whose apprehension is sought for serious offences, and engravings of stolen property, will be inserted at a cost of 7s. per portrait, and of 5s. per photograph or sketch of a stolen article, unless the article is large or unusually intricate, when the engraver's charge will range from 5s to 10s. A remittance of 5s. should be made in the first instance for cost of engraving sketches. Every announcement, if for the apprehension of a person, must be guaranteed by the signature of an officer of not less rank than Superintendent; and if the name of such person is required to be inserted and no warrant is in force against him, the requisition must be signed by the chief officer of police, or his immediate deputy, of the county, city, or borough, as the case may be. Announcements concerning stolen property must be guaranteed by an officer of not less rank than Inspector, or analogous thereto. srs. 8. Announcements of all persons to be apprehended or of stolen property bear m number, and as far as practicable they are alphabetically arranged by counties. 9. The force which causes particulars concerning delinquents or stolen property to be inserted in the POLICE GAZETTE, must, on their apprehension or recovery, at once transmit to the Editor notice of the fact, referring to ths number of the announcement, for insertion in the next issue. 10. In all cases the officer signing the request for the insertion of any announce- ment will be wholly responsible lor any proceedings which may result from such publication. 11. Announcements for the Friday issue should be forwarded so as to be received not later than noon on Wednesday, and for the Tuesday edition not later than Saturday morning. _ They must be clearly written on one side of the paper only; they must be in the usual form, ana accompanied by a covering letter. 12. All payments must be in advance, either at the office, New Scotland Yard, by Postal Order, or by Post Office Order, payable at Parliament Street Post Office. 13 The Space being limited, announcements concerning " Missing Persons" are only accepted on payment, but insertion in the next or any subsequent issue cannot be guaranteed. The charge for such insertion ( if accepted) will be given on application. 14. All copies of the POLICE GAZETTE re- transmitted by Police Forces should be prepaid at the ordinary rate for printed matter sent by post within the United Kingdom. Clarke, Matlock Bridge. 9. — Renishaw ( County). — For stealing between 5th and 7th irust., at Greenhill, Norton, a trap rug ( one side black, other yellow and brown), about 4 ft. by 3J.; 1 new pink cotton shirt; 2 pairs grey pants; 2 wollen vests; 2 roller towels ( 1 with red stripe down each side, other plain); 1 large bath towel with 7 red stripes; 1 tea cloth with red stripes; 2 pairs black woollen socks with coloured stripes; 3 linen dust sheets, 2 yards by 3 ( 2 white; 1 blue); 1 do., yards by 2 yards, white with pink stripes— A WOMAN, age about 45, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., complexion and hair darl^, peculiar shaped nose, scars supposed on face; wear- ing grey mackintosh jacket ( supposed stolen), blue hat, trimmed red roses and poppies, old boots. DUMFRIESSHIRE. 10.— Dumfries ( County).— For obtaining £ 1 6s. by false pretences— ROBERT SMITH, alias THOMAS SMITH and JOHN McLENNAN, age 50 to 60, height 5 ft. 7 or 8 in , stout build, complexion fresh, full round face, hair and eyes grey, clean shaved, twitches his mouth when speaking; dress, dark tweed jacket suit, hard felt hat), blucher boots. He represented himself as master of the s. s. Storie, which was wrecked off the coast of Ireland, and that his means had become exhausted in sending his crew to Grimsby, and that he was a member of the Shipwrecked Mariners' Society. BERKSHIRE. 4.— Reading ( Borough).— For embezzlement — W. A. HARRIS, age about 30, height 5 ft. 6 in., rather stout build, oomplexion fresh., hair brown, Irish accent; dress, brown check jacket suit, green tie, cap, brown boots. He was employed as a fitter here in charge of a branch business for a firm of weight and scale makers, Birmingham, and was formerly employed by Pooleys, Birmingham, and managed a branch business for them in Dublin, Cardiff, and various parts of the North of England. Is a prominent football player, and played for Reading Reserves. Absconded 29th May last, and was seen in London on 1st inst. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Reading. Crowhurst, Sittingbourne. 28.— Dover ( Borough,).— For stealing 7th inst., a " Glencoe" bicycle, 26 in. frame, raised handle bars, roller brakes, Celtic tyres, lined red and green, transfer on head and mudguard;, " The Glencoe, maker, Jos. Austen, Castle Street, Dover " - JOSEPH LAMB, age 20, height 5 ft. 7 in., complexion fair, hair brown, eyes hazel, small scar left knee and right middle finger; dress, brown jacket suit with thin bluish stripes. A native of Shieldfield, Newcastle- on- Tyne. Is a deserter from the 2nd Northumberland Fusiliers. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, Dover. 29 — Ramgate ( Borough).— For obtaining a postal order for 8s. by false pretences, 10th ult.— C. ROGERS, age about 25, height 5 ft. 6 or 7 in., complexion, hair and slight moustache dark; dress, brown suit, grey cap. He answers advertisements, which appear in Cage Birds, stating he has birds for sale, receives the amount, and acknowledges receipt of same stating the birds will be forwarded, which he fails to do. Gave an address at Marshal- sea Road, London, S. E., which was found to be a newsagents, where he had letters sent. Warrant issued. LANARKSHIRE. 80.— Glasgow [ City).— For deserting his wife since 11th ult., leaving her chargeable to the Parish of Glasgow— THOMAS GIBSON, age 45, height about 6 ft., slight build,, complexion red ( tanned), thin face, slightly blotched about nose and mouth, heavy moustache auburn, eyes blue, long narrow head. Represented that he travelled for a Sheffield firm, and stated to be a native of Hull. Frequents second- rate hotels, and may be accompanied by a Man. A reward of £ 1 Is. will be paid by Mr. J. R. Motion, Inspector and Clerk to the Parish Council of Glasgow, for the arrest of Gibson. Warrant issued. Information to the Chief Constable, City Police, Glasgow. LANCASHIRE. 31.— Manchester ( City).— For unlawfully wounding a woman, 8th inst. — JOSEPH ALDRIDGE, age 48 ( looks older), height 5 ft. 7\ in., stooping shoulders, complexion fair, square features, sullen expression,, hair ( bald on top), slight moustache ( turning grey), and thick eye- brows sandy; dress, black cord suit, cap, blucher boots. All clothing stamped " Manchester Union." A horse keeper or labourer; native of Manchester. Information to the Chief Constable, Manchester. 32,— Southport ( Borough).— For stealing £ 4, 10th April last— JOSEPH RATCLIFFE, alias KAY, age 35 to 40, height 5 ft. 4 or 5 in., com- plexion fresh, hair and moustache brown, usually wears glasses; dress, grey jacket suit and cap. A native of Manchester,, where he was for some years employed by an antique dealer. May be accom- panied by his Wife, age about 26, complexion and hair dark; a Child, age about 5 months; and his Son, age 14, tall, complexion fair, liair light. 3 '- South/ sort ( Borough).— For obtaining goods by false pretences, 10th ult.— •— GARD- NER, age 35 to 40, medium height, slight build, complexion pale, hair and eyes brown, of good address and smart appearance; dressi, brown costume and hat. Appearance of horse dealers. The first man, who gave the name of Hibbert, offered to sell a horse to a person,, stating he had just refused an offer of £ 25, as the intended pur- chaser would only pay by cheque, the second- des- cribed man then appeared and asked the person to purchase the animal for him as Hibbert refused to accept the cheque, and he would pay him £ 2 for his trouble, he paid £ 5 on account, the second man agreed to call at his house with the amount the following day. The horse was booked to Bir- mingham same day in name of Croker, and on the previous day from Slough Oxford in name of White, accompanied by a Man, age 25 to 30, height 5 ft. 8 in., complexion fair, slight moustache dark; wearing light brown overcoat, soft felt hat.
